Budget friendly and local option. There is a pool, splash pad area, and two giant water chutes for an afternoon of fun. It does get crowded by mid-afternoon so I suggest waiting 15 minutes before it opens. The water chutes feel like a mini water coaster. My toddler enjoyed himself and begged to go on the water chutes, but he'll have to be a little taller before he can go. Lifeguards and recreational staff are friendly and attentive. Horrible. Pool was not big so I had to wait in line for my kids for 30 minutes. When I got to the front, I told a 4 eyed guy bowl cut that my kids are coming from the restroom and he gives me attitude saying " they gotta be here man they gotta be here" I told him okay, all he has to do is count 2 more kids on his thing but I guess his glasses absorbs all of his brain cells. He hates his job and shouldn't work here especially if there's a lot of kids. No need for the attitude when I told him nicely that my kids are coming from the restroom. This is a great place to take 5 and up kids. The pool is available to 70 ppl groups in 30 minute sessions. While you do have to wait in line for your turn, the kids can splash around in the splash-pad while the parents watch them in line as it's conveniently located next to the pool. They also have two fun waterslides which my 5 Year old loved. It would be a solid 4 stars for us but unfortunately, the last time we went the slides were under maintenance so I have to knock 1/2 a star because I called again yesterday and they are still non operational. So all in all a solid 3.5 if the slides start working again I'll bump it back to a 4. Another big plus is the price, you really can't beat $1 for kids and $2 for adults (cash only). On another note, it does get full/crowded so get there early or it may sell out. Also, while street parking is available, it's a bit of a hassle to acquire a spot (but what popular place in LA isn't?) Amazing time!!! Worth the wait. The kiddos will love it. Staff is attentive and the restrooms were clean.

$2 adult $1 child. There are 3 main areas: pool, sprinkler water playground, and water slides. All bags must be checked into the bag room (for free) but you can still bring your shoes and any handheld items around with you, though some people just ignore the staff and kept their bags with them. There are shaded areas to sit at and a small area with tables next to the slides. When the pool is at max capacity (varies according to # lifeguards), they will rotate groups of people every 30 min to ensure everyone gets a chance to get in the pool. Operating hours are 12-3pm on Saturday - unsure if they are open other days but this is the day I went. Clean and orderly for a public pool with a reasonable price. read more

Bottom line, the rules seem to be enforced rather gently/flexibly. If you read multiple reviews here, it seems that your mileage may vary. Biggest complaint from our visit is that we went there on a Saturday and the pool was unexpectedly closed, leaving only the splash pad and water slides. Not so much as a sign at the door to notify the guests. Some poor people with older kids waited in line only to get to the front and receive the news that there was no pool; they left disappointed. They also basically just rubbed in it our face because the pool was uncovered and staff were occasionally fishing around in it with nets or whatever maintenance you typically see done in pools. But if you so much as walked near the pool a lifeguard blew a whistle at you. Our kids are preschool age so even without the pool, this place was just fine for them for 2 hours. There were signs and frequent communication, however, regarding bags. When waiting in line, we were told by staff that bags are not allowed and to return them to our cars. But not a single person holding a bag in the line budged and the staff did not press the issue further. People had backpacks, diaper bags, and regular shopping bags to hold their stuff. Signs mentioned a bag room to check bags, but it was not open. So even people who wanted to comply in some form with this supposed no bag policy were unable to do so. The fenced off Splash Zone area has a lot of lunch tables and benches for people to set up their stuff. It seemed that most people were respectful of sharing the seating area and not taking up more space than they needed. In terms of wardrobe/footwear, there were people in water shoes, Crocs, flip flops, and barefoot. Most people were in swimwear, some in athletic wear, and some just in straight up regular clothes. The rules in this regard, which other reviewers have mentioned, were not an issue either way for us. The restrooms were, in short, public park restrooms. Lots of cement, one ply toilet paper, mediocre water pressure, etc. Some reviewers have taken issue with that, but at the end of the day the facility is a public park and I personally found the restroom to be about as good as you can expect in terms of cleanliness. On that note, be aware that the Splash Zone is in a public park, in a see-through fenced off area. At one point, I saw a person outside the fence reach his phone through the fence and take a picture of someone/something (?) inside the Splash Zone area. I can only hope and pray they knew someone inside. But bottom line, there is literally zero staff presence monitoring the perimeter for any sort of security-type issues. Lastly, sorry to those who are locals to this place, but it is a pretty good value in that it is the same price whether you live in the city or not. 4/5 because all of the ridiculous rules! Why do I have to check in my handbag?? No food, no bags of any sort, no towels, no photos. Water+sun= hungry kids. You also can't leave for more than 5 minutes or you're not allowed back in. Anyway, we went on a Wednesday and it wasn't too bad. You can't beat $2 for adults and $1 for kids for some summertime fun. We walked right in and found a seat in the shade. The grounds are well kept and the staff is helpful. It seems very organized and I'm sure part of this is due to all of the rules. Absolutely horrible! I called multiple times asking if we are allowed to bring food in. I was told I could. I got there today for a birthday party and I had my food confiscated!!!!! We had a great time! Came on a Saturday around 3 pm. No line to go in and the front desk girl was nice. No bags allowed in but was able to bring in a towel and sandals. There are two water slides, I went on the slower one that had the top open, I'm claustrophobic. We waited 15 minutes for our turn to get in the pool and got lucky because there wasn't a group waiting after us so we didn't have to rotate out. However, you have to book way ahead of time in the summer. The place was really big and there were other parties happening at the same time. Kids are expensive. Taking them to amusement parks are hella expensive too (Disneyland just increased their ticket prices by 30%). If you have kids, live in the area, and you want to take them somewhere fun for low costs during the summer, then Splash Zone at Garvey Park is the answer. I teach at an after-school tutoring center and during the summertime, we have a summer program. Since we're on the same block, we take the kids in our school here every other week on field trip days during the summer. It is admission based, but it's only $1/child, which is super cheap. There's a water playground, pool, and two giant water slides. It's not huge, nor would I call it an "amusement park", but I would recommend taking kids from toddlers to age 10. It's a nice place to visit if you want to do something out of the ordinary, don't have a pool, or give your kids a treat and you're on a budget. I highly recommend it! read more

Great place to host a birthday party - attended a birthday party as a guest here on a hot weekend afternoon. While there was a long line to get in and a sign that said that the Splash Zone was full, we were able to check in at the desk since our name was on the party RSVP list. Even though the sign said it was full, it didn't feel crowded and the kids had fun going on the 2 slides (there is a height minimum). There's also a fun splash pad and pool, the latter of which is why it was a 4 and not 5-star experience. For the pool, there's a limit of 30 minutes and if you want to be in the next group to get in you have to stand in line, which is bit of a pain. They also require parents of kids 7 year old or younger to be physically in the pool with them at all times. The best part about the party (in addition to the price) is that you get the large shaded picnic tables on the side next to the slides, can bring your own food, and is far away enough so that it feels more intimate, really like that the entire area is fenced and that there are plenty of life guards/staff. It's NOT an all day thing, It's a $1 entrance for 3 hrs of fun so if you want to pack a big ol' picnic go ahead and set up outside water area there's plenty of shade and tables. No food/drinks inside.(water is ok) Many mom's try to bring their whole cocina into water park which makes it hard for staff to control when you have a group of 10 sneaking in what staff is politely asking not too. It's understandable.. The place is too small! Consider getting here early to get in line after a certain amount they stop letting people in. Crowd but not overly crowded. I got here 30 minutes before opening and we were 3rd family in line! They have a pool rotation every 20-30 minute. It's fair so everyone can get a turn. Slides seem to be running smoothly. This water park is very clean and big. Lots of changing rooms, 2 big water slides, and very spacious bathrooms. One downside is that their hours are very short...... they close early on 3 pm, and 4 pm Thursday's. Also, dress code is strict. Only bathing suit and waterproof clothing allowed...... except at the water play equipment area. At least they have locker room to secure your iPhone and other belongings. read more

This is a really cool spot to cool off in the summer. They have a really big pool that ids great for kids. At its deepest point it's 4'6". They have a nice little splash zone playground area. They also have two really fun water slides and picnic areas if you are wanting to host birthday parties. They have a lot of staff here that are most likely high schoolers that may be volunteering. They have lockers in the shower but offer bag checking which may be safer. My only gripe is they have a lot of rules. You can not take pictures whatsoever in the park. I can maybe understand the reasoning behind that too prevent creeps from taking pics of kids at a waterpark but it sucks if you want to take pics of you having fun with your family. Another rule I didn't really think was necessary is you can't have your kids hold onto your back when your in the pool. That I don't understand. Im swimming and my kids aren't good swimmers so I asked her to hold onto me, but nope, cant have them on your back. Another rule that you have to play attention to is you must be in a swimsuit and swim trunks or you wont be able to swim and play. No basketball shorts or shirts replacing a swimsuit. Im okay with that rule but some of the other ones are lame. Overall it's a good park, entrance is 2 bucks.
