Not a pleasant experience at all. Went to order a cake for a 60th bday. Was told they don't have cake toppers & suggested I go to a party store, buy one & bring it back. Went back with my cake topper & was told by another employee it was too big for that size cake & why did I buy such a big one when they sold a smaller version! Then there was so much commotion about writing on the cake because of my large topper that would hang over the sides. She wasn't clear that they had to place the topper in the middle of the cake because of its size. I thought they could place it at the top of the cake & then write underneath. The owner had to come out & explain. I agreed to place the topper in the middle with writing along the bottom of the board. I wanted the cake to look pretty as it was for a 60th birthday. I rec'd no direction from the staff other than a blank stare & a suggestion of a border along the top & bottom of the cake. I wanted some color, but was told nothing would match the gold topper. This is what I got along with a HUGE GASH in the frosting! And as you can see, there was room for writing on the cake & the topper DOESN'T hang over. I thought they were known for their cakes! Normandie Bakery made the wedding cake for our reception at Buona Sera. My husband and I met with Ralph a week beforehand. He was helpful and very personable. We hashed out a cake plan, picked fillings, ate samples, and we showed some photos of what we liked from Pinterest. Boom. I just finished eating more cake left overs about 15 minutes before writing this review. The cake was and is FABULOUS. We were told by basically every guest on our wedding night things like, "this wedding cake is actually good" and "this is the best wedding cake I have ever had". It also helps that we chose heavenly fillings like raspberry jam, chocolate mousse, and whipped cream. Inside and out, the cake was perfect. The cake itself was soft, and not overly sweet. Flavor balance was spot on. The butter cream exterior looked beautiful, and tasted lovely. I now have a go to bakery for deserts! Thank you Ralph, and thank you so much to your team! I'm not sure what happened with the review below, but they have always been SUPER nice to me here, and usually throw in some extra cookies/biscotti after they are weighed. Everything here is delicious...from the sfogliatelle to the eclairs, cannoli to the napoleons...it's all so fresh and comforting. I get our holiday assortments from here and I even used to bring back their biscotti to school when I was in college. The cherry biscotti is absolutely DELICIOUS. The sfogliatelle rival my favorite North Jersey bakery as well. No Italian christmas is complete without a spread of sfogliatelle, lobster tails, cannolis, eclairs, cassatede, cassatini, Genovese, etc. And of course, my favorite, STRUFFOLI. All are stocked at Normandie and usually available (save for the Struffoli, which is a Christmastime treat). They're open really early (like 6-7am) and always have tons of pastries and cookies to choose from. Be sure to check out the really funny wedding cake topper in the window too! When My fiancee and I were looking for a place to get a wedding cake we found Normandie Bakery in a local search. Calling for an appointment one year before our wedding (which we were aware was early to be cake shopping), we spoke to the assumed owner. He said, "Oh. Go away." He also strongly urged us to look elsewhere, without ever inquiring with us what we were looking for. My ma went to this bakery to get me a birthday cake and she got the best cake I've ever eaten in my entire life. It's an Oreo cake and it was so moist the flavors were so on point and worked well together. Everything in that cake was amazing. The reason I gave this a four was because she also got elephant ears pastry and they weren't very good to be honest I've had better ones. Ralph did our wedding cake for us as they were the "preferred" vendor for our wedding caterer. Well we couldn't have been more happy with everything. He was extremely helpful with the tasting session and the cake tasted better than any cake we have ever tried. Sounds like an exaggeration but it's not. We went with two different filling layers - raspberry and cannoli. The bread was white on top and bottom and chocolate center. The icing was "whipped cream" because we didn't want butter cream, which we think is generally too sweet. The cake was literal perfection. Highly recommend this bakery for wedding cakes. read more

Just called to order a birthday cake for Thanksgiving. I spoke to a very rude young lady who informed me, "it is first come first serve!" I explained a wanted to order a birthday cake and again she was very rude and said we have pre made birthday cakes. I didn't want a pre made birthday cake. Great place to get cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. They have great sweets and are very nice people in the bakery. Some of their prices are a little pricey and I once had to pay 14 dollars for a cake! I ordered my birthday cake from this place. I only ordered from here because my regular bakery couldn't do my cake on such short notice. Well, they screwed my whole order up!! I orderd a simple three layered 16 inch round cake with vanilla filling. Instead of two layers of yellow cake and one layer of chocolate, they gave me 2 chocolate layers and one layer of yellow. I asked for butter cream frosting, and they gave me whip cream frosting instead. I HATE WHIP CREAM FROSTING! The vanilla filling was bland and had no sugar in it, well it tasted like it had no sugar in it. The cake it self was a little over cooked and not very tastey at all. I recently spoke to the owner/baker about a birthday cake for my boyfriend's surprise birthday party. When I described what I wanted (a 3-D fish) he explained it would cost about $500. Since I was only having about 20 - 30 people, that wasn't going to work. He spent time with me asking what else we could do. He came up with a nice beachy/fishing theme. I knew I wanted a rum cake and, again, he asked about the "old" style rum cake vs. the "new" style. I opted for the "old" - using vanilla and chocolate pudding. He was clear about what type of icing I wanted, colors, etc. The cost was very reasonable. $40+. I was extremely happy with the way the cake came out and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!! I'm not a big "cake fan" but it was great. We gave a piece to our waitress at the party and she came over a while later and whispered to me that it was the "most delicious cake she had EVER had". I would have to agree. No complaints from me and I'd go back in a heartbeat. In fact, I will because all their breads, cookies, etc., looked wonderful. read more

The only reason we didn't get our wedding cake from Normandie was because our venue included one in the price of our reception. Their cakes are just delicious. She called me 45 minutes before my shoot to tell me that her baker that she uses forgot all about it. When I called Normandie the owner told me no problem, come in 20 minutes. My go-to bakery. For the holidays and bdays or just about any get together, I always get a bunch of their mini pastries: cannoli, sfogliatelle, eclairs, lobster tails, napoleons, etc. They also have this amazing Kringle that is great with coffee. Not a big cake person; prefer pastries for just about every occasion. However, I have a certain place I go to for cakes if need be. So, I haven't tried their cakes, but one reviewer said something about them putting whipped cream on the cake instead of butter cream, and evidently this person "hates" whipped cream. Ok, I get the gripe about them getting the order wrong. You want what you want. But honestly, a good cake *should* have whipped cream on it. At some crappier bakeries, you can't even get whipped cream---it's just that butter cream "icing" crap. Gross. So now I'm actually considering trying one of their cakes since it seems they probably use quality ingredients and make cakes they way any good bakery would. read more

*Ralph, the OWNER, put me down in various ways 2 days before my Oct. wedding *We had a miscommunication about having cupcakes as favors for my wedding *The miscommunication was his fault: we told him we wanted these favors, and he never wrote the order down, however he said it would be fine and he never said to call to confirm anything - we left thinking everything was all set, especially b/c he was also doing our wedding cake *I called 2 days before the wedding and he YELLED, CURSED AND HUNG UP ON ME b/c he said we never discussed anything (which when I told him specifics of what HE SAID about the favors, he was dumbfounded) *Don't forget - I was a bride (and customer) getting married in 2 days... *He told me I wouldn't find anyone else to do this, and I did. After he hung up on me, I called another bakery, and in about 30 secs, they said they'd be happy to do this for me. *We had a different bakery complete everything for us because of him, ultimately. *The stress and unprofessionalism of this man (infant) is unbelievable and disguisting. *I strongly advise you to not go here. read more
