No! No! No! These people lied to me twice and damaged the lamp I left. Backstory: I "inherited" a lamp that needed refinishing. I liked it but didn't know if it was worth the cost and effort. I took it into the shop to see what "the experts" recommended. I was told it was a Stiffel and that it was worth refinishing. Cost $250. I said ok and left the lamp. I went home and then researched vintage lamps. (Ok, I know, I shoulda done that first...my bad). Found out it was actually a Frederick Cooper French Pillar Calendar Table Lamp. A similar lamp was selling on the internet for $150. Again ... my bad. But I figured I would be able to enjoy it anyway after it was refinished. Wrong! I picked it up yesterday and there is now a dent in the base that was not there before (although the owner said it was, I know better as I tried to polish that same base myself so was intimate with it). Also the faceplate had been removed and was replaced so that the holes in the plate no longer line up with the holes in the wooden pillar before...which makes the calendar useless. And when the faceplate was replaced they scratched the pillar and one of the four nails is missing. And least of all the felt bottom was not glued on. So...use these folks at your own peril. read more

Absolutely terrible service. My plumber brought two small shower faucet handles to be plated. He was told it would be done in 2 weeks; it is now almost 9 weeks with no communication. Calls, emails, and texts are ignored. The only way to get any communication is when my plumber goes to the shop personally. He is given lame excuses (the tank went down, I have 2 guys out sick, blah blah blah) or unfulfilled promises (we will be done today or tomorrow, Monday for sure...). I have given up and gone in a different direction. If these guys ever do call back, which I doubt, I plan on telling them I will be there in 2 weeks... If I could give negative stars I would. read more

Scott needs to learn how to talk to customers because I will not be coming back simply because of him. When I first dropped off my piece, he was friendly and promised me two weeks. This piece was important and I relied on his two week lead time. When I came back at the two week mark, he wasn't so friendly. His eye was bloody looking, probably because someone punched him in it for being such an a**. He yelled at me, yelled. He told me that he would call me when it was done and that he didn't know when this would be, but probably by the end of the week. A couple days later I stopped back in to see if it had come. He screamed at me in front of other customers and told me that he didn't know why I came back in. He said he didn't know when the piece would be back and that it could be up to six weeks and that he never promised me two weeks from the beginning. He also told me that he isn't going to drop all of his other jobs in order to take care of mine, as if I was behaving in an entitled way and trying to demand more from him than what was promised. He told me two weeks from the start. So I needed this piece back and was frustrated because by not having it, I wouldn't be able to have my project completed that was costing a whole lot more than a refinished metal part. I asked him if I could just take it back, even if it wasn't done and he said NO! So then I asked if it wasn't there, could I go pick it up? And he said NO! He said he would call me and that it will be back sometime, but he didn't know when. Ultimately, I didn't get a call. I got a text saying this was done a few days later. I explained to Scott that I wouldn't have left it when I did if it was going to be longer than the promised wait time, but that didn't matter to him. He denied ever saying two weeks. Due to this delay and the project that I had going on, by not having this part, I had an entire bathroom rebuilt and the part does not fit properly so I will be without my shower for probably two more months if I'm lucky. I regret going to Normandy and I also regret not giving Scott another bloody eye on the other side. read more

I read the reviews on this site and took a small silver chandelier in to have one of the broken lights repaired to Normandy. I was told the cost would be $50. I just now returned home from picking up my chandelier and I am still literally shaking. I was verbally assaulted in the store by a very large man who appears to be the owner. Here is what took place. I came into the store and nobody was at the counter. I rang the indicated bell and still no one came to help me. I walked over to where the workshop appeared to be and stood outside the gate marked no entry. I could see my chandelier on the floor. When this man finally came out I politely told him that was my chandelier. When he picked it up, it was in the file box with lid I brought it in. He went to pick up the chandelier but left the lid on the floor. It looked very wet. I asked for the lid. He told me it was too wet. I asked to see the box and felt the bottom. The bottom of the box was all wet. I politely asked for another box. The man did not appear pleased and begrudgingly went to look for another box. He put my chandelier on top of a stool. As I stood waiting outside the workshop area, I watched as my chandelier crashed to the floor. I involuntarily let out a scream. It was so upsetting to see my family heirloom falling and glass breaking. The man came back and there was no remorse or apology. What I believe happened is the box was so wet it was unable to hold the weight of the chandelier. Without a word he took it to the far back and would not show me the condition it was in. I wanted to go back to see it and innocently thought I was in an appropriate area. It's a confusing maze of areas and it was my first time in that part of the store. All of a sudden this same big man comes out and begins yelling at me and ordering me to get out and saying I was not supposed to be in that area. I apologized and said I honestly didn't know. He continued and went postal on me. I told him he had no right talking to me in this way. We wouldn't drop it and kept insisting I violated the store rules. I was shaking and walked out of the store sobbing after he disappeared. He then came out to the front counter and pushed the chandelier in front of me. He told me to just take it and it was fine. He went after me again after I told him that I can't believe he talks to customers this way. He accused me of moving forward into the forbidden area when I didn't. He told me to just take the chandelier and but normally it would be $75. I reminded him that my quote was for $50. He said yes but it required a lot more work. I asked how I knew it was even working. He became enraged and said he would show me. At this point I had had enough. I took my chandelier and walked out completely shaken. I am a petite woman and this man was very angry, confrontational and intimidating. This was a horrible experience and not deserving of a single star. I don't care how excellent the work may be. A man who treats women with such disrespect and yes I would use the word abuse, ought not to be in business. I am a nice, polite person, having a wonderful day until this happened. I used to own my own business and I can't fathom treating any customer in this manner. I can't get over it. I don't even know if my chandelier is working or is damaged. So sad. What he did to my psyche today is the worst of it. read more

I took a 20 year old, pitted Baldwin Entry passage set into Normandy to have refinished to Matte Black. IT TURNED OUT AWESOME! They had a problem removing all of the chrome but they stuck with it and finally got it to where they were content to refinish it. It shows that they have a lot of pride in what they do when you see the finished product. The price is fantastic and the turn around time is amazing! I will be a customer for life! read more

I give them 5 stars for their work, and 2 for the rudeness of the owners(?). Don't come expecting sunny dispositions. But I'm really happy with what they did for me - something I had trouble finding someone who was willing to work on. So I'll give them a 4 because I'm nicer than they are. Oh, and their parking "lot" is terrible. One person parks wrong and you're trapped in there until they leave. Park in the back and you have a better chance of leaving when you want to. They give a discount for paying with cash or check so that's one nice bit of customer service. read more

I second the last review overwhelmingly - with an exception... they DO have competition, people just don't realize that there are many other places around that do metal refinishing. This vendor is disorganized, arrogant, poor customer service, and they treat you like they are too busy to be bothered by your business! They recently made a mistake on my order because they were simply too pre-occupied when I placed it to listen and write down the finish I wanted. I even called them back to reiterate the finish and still it was wrong! No apology for my inconvenience or even an offer to correct it quickly, it was just "Take a number and go to the back of the line again" type of response. When I finally called two weeks later because no one ever called me like they said they would I was met with a defensive angry response and rushed off the phone. read more

Excellent workmanship. The owner has an artistic eye, converting a dingy oxidized (corroded?) metal floor lamp into a thing of beauty. He also refurbished two additional brass lamps for me and those too are beautiful and restored to their original appearance. But that complete transformation of the dingy lamp really demonstrates his skill and craftmanship. The owner is a skilled professional, and definitely has an eye for beauty. Had a very bad experience with Normandy. Replating job took 4 times longer than it was supposed to (with repeated promises that it would be ready in 2 weeks) and the plating began pitting within 9 months. Oh, and Normandy damaged and lost parts which had to be replaced by the installer. Zero customer service and shoddy work. I would NEVER use this company again. read more

I just moved and used 7 contractors including this one. They have a monopoly in what they do but I would never ever use them again. When I went to pick up my refinished parts, I realized that they had lost many of my parts which they take no responsibility for. I was told that it was my problem. I also noticed that a couple of parts weren't mine which they didn't care about either. I also got my parts 3 weeks later than was promised. The guy who runs the place is an arrogant f--- because he knows that he has no competition. In the future, I would either purchase all new parts rather than use them or travel anywhere else for my refinishing needs read more

This place was recommended by our house painter. Our Baldwin lock is over 20 years old and was badly weathered. Normandy brought our lock back to brand new condition. We appreciated the discount they offer for paying cash. They were able to finish our job in one day, too. This place is the real deal. read more

I had my faucet refinished and it was a nightmare! The 2 weeks turned in to 2 months. They lost parts of the faucet and one of the parts they replaced has completely discolored. Also, within a few months of re-installation, the chrome finish is corroding - not discoloring but actually turning brown and rough and looks like it is going to peel in 12 spots on the neck of the faucet. It will not only cost me to replace the faucet, but will also be the cost of the installation which is difficult because it is a pedestal sink. They blamed it on harsh chemicals used to clean the faucet. If that were the case my other chrome faucet in my master bath would have the same problem. Awful service and even worse work. read more
