We have a 20 year old entry way to kitchen Brazilian Cherrywood floor that was looking awful. We thought we needed to replace but I found Specialized Surfaces and contacted them for an appt and Tom the owner was amazing and the crew he sent was incredible. I knew when I saw 3 men hand sanding our floor it would look great in the end which is what happened. Tom suggested to put a satin sheen on the floor instead of the original gloss coat. I didn't know how it would look but it turned out amazing and as Tom said, it will be so much easier to take care of and hides everything. I would run from this company! This was a terrible experience - that's still going on. Tom misrepresented his services and clearly does not have the experience necessary to work with Saltillo tiles. From the other reviews, it seems he is capable of cleaning basic flooring, but do not expect any real expertise from this company. Tom used a machine on the delicate tiles and left them in terrible shape. Chips, grooves and even a chunk of grout was the result. Even assuming that he did not know how to work with these tiles, the cleaning and glazing was horrible. Giant swirls of color, drips and clusters of glaze and many spots just ignored. In addition, they did significant damage to my baseboards! When I pointed out the shoddy work to Tom, I expected he would take responsibility and agree his team did a horrible job. Instead, he became belligerent and threatening - I was grateful my adult son was in the home. needless-to-say, it was a terrible experience. I had to hire another company to clean the mess they left and seal properly. PM me for the contractor who did the work correctly. I'm sure Tom will respond with the fact he's taking me to court - not a problem, I'm also counter-suing for the cost to replace the damaged tiles and base boards. What he won't tell you is that the State Licensing Board is has also opened an investigation based on my complaint. These are just a few of the pictures I took, along with great after photos. I've included just one with the blue circle to show you the great job the second contractor did on my floors. Whenever we have work done I always expect something to go wrong but in this case everything was done with care and experience. From Tom's visit to estimate to a job well done. We had grout in our kitchen freshen up. They sanded the old grout by hand and did an excellent job of replacing it. It's like having a brand new kitchen. The other job involved removing gran ite tiles from our fireplace in order in large the granite tiles around the fireplace. We did this in order to accommodate the larger television. We had our bathroom re-sealed, the hardwood floor of one room refinished, and some areas of discoloration on the hardwood floor of another room touched up. Before hiring Specialized Surfaces, we had contacted two other companies. The first was very inflexible with poor customer service. The second had a high minimum cost and said they couldn't patch up the discoloration. To make things worse, they never got back to us with a quote. Since moving into our new home, we've unfortunately encountered our fair share of flaky people for home projects. Luckily Specialized Surfaces was different. Tom was very much on top of things, which was refreshing! He came out to our home (masked due to the pandemic), provided us with an estimate very swiftly, and had two individuals out at our home to complete the bathroom and hardwood floor-related jobs. They were friendly and reliable and seemed honest, and we're happy with the results. The grout in our bathroom is clean and white again, and the slate in our shower isn't flaking off; the damaged floor in my office is no longer chipping off and becoming bare; and you can't tell the discolored areas in my husband's office were ever even patched up.
