I am assuming they only put 2 coats of finish on and didn't prep correctly since all of the finish has already released after only 4 short months. When his team was "complete" I could tell they did not do the job I expected. I asked them to come back out and place one more coat on....which they did but didn't make much difference. I have since refinished myself after spending over $2k for their crappy work. It looks great now.....after a real complete strip and 4 coats of the finish I originally asked for. My advice is do it yourself or go elsewhere.

This time, we decided to move forward with a project Luis recommended: refinishing one of the wood laminate kitchen countertops in our rental unit. Initially, I expected the result to look like a simple repaint, especially considering how worn and faded the laminate surface had become. However, once I saw the finished work, I could hardly believe my eyes. It genuinely looked as though we had replaced the countertop with granite. The finish appeared solid, durable, and waterproof. Luis and his team did an outstanding job. I was truly blown away by both the quality of the workmanship and the final result. I only wish I had taken before-and-after photos, but judging by the many client photos already available, you can clearly see the level of quality they consistently deliver. We spent about 30K on the flooring after they up-charged us on concrete to level the floors because if we didn't then the warranty would not be in place. Within a year the flooring by my pantry started to come apart. We ignored it but after a while we found more flooring has come apart going into the living room and hallway. I finally called My Flooring Guy for help. They told me the warranty on their work only lasted a year. The 30 year warranty was by the manufacturer. However they would have someone call me to see if it was covered. No one called. I called again. This time they gave me an email address to send pictures of the problem. I did so but again no answer. These floors were supposed to last but apparently they don't and this company doesn't stand by their work. Do not go with this company or you will regret it. I will be having someone come out to try to fix my floors and will look into legal action if possible. So much money wasted. Thanks for nothing My Flooring Guy.

We wanted to obtain 3 estimates to restore our travertine floor to its original beauty. One man came & provided a reasonable estimate (within 5 minutes of walking in our door), but he never measured the floor or took the time to really look at the holes & imperfections in our floor. The second man was a complete flake. He scheduled, then re-scheduled, but never showed up. Thankfully, Specialized Surfaces sent Vincent to our home. He was detail-oriented, honest and very pleasant. He measured our floors, looked very carefully to be able to give an accurate price quote to repair the floor based on the holes, cracks, and wear & tear. Gilbert was awesome. It took only 10 minutes after Gilbert left our home for me to call to schedule the work. On the day the work was to be performed, we were incredibly impressed with the men. Luis explained every step of the restoration process. They worked very hard and did an outstanding job. When the job was complete, they cleaned up so beautifully, I didn't need to do a thing.....except drool over my gorgeous floor. It looks so good that I was asked if we got a new floor. Needless to say, it looks nearly new, and I am thrilled that we chose Specialized Surfaces to do the job. Tom was prompt to come out and give us an estimate to install tile flooring throughout our home. Throughout the project, Tom was always courteous, making himself available to answer any questions or concerns that I had, which helped me to feel more at ease. Thank you to Julio and his crew for their hard work and the amazing job they did installing our porcelain tile planks. I wanted the planks placed close together, 1/16", to give it a real wood look, and Julio assured me they would do their best to carry out my wishes. On 6/24/11 I had Specialized Surfaces out to clean and reseal my slate floor. I had a few tiles that had been replaced in the center of the floor and they used the wrong grout color during the installation. To say the least, the tiles looked in stark contrast to one another. I wasn't expecting to much, but was curious when they said they could match and stain the grout color to make a uniform appearance. You know how sales guys are promising the world, but he said he had a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Also that if I wanted, the owner would be happy to walk the job with me before I paid. The technicians that came out were Miguel and Jaime and were awesome. They arrived on time, well mannered, and knowledgeable about the products. The hardwood floors of our 55 year old house were severely damaged by some renters who kept 5 dogs in the house for 6 months. Carpet covering the floors was drenched with urine and feces from wall-to-wall. When we pulled the carpet up, the floors were stained and even warped in some places. We didn't think it was salvageable. The odor was so bad it was difficult to stay in the house for extended lengths of time. We interviewed three floor companies and chose Specialized Surfaces due to their reasonable estimation, their honesty, and professionalism. They replaced a few slabs, made some repairs, sanded the rest of the floor and stained it a dark brown to cover a few stubborn stains. When they were finished, the floor was absolutely beautiful. The odor is completely gone and the floors that had once looked and smelled unsalvageable now look like new. They completed the job in a very timely fashion, and we are ecstatic. read more

Great Service! Our hardwood floors had several areas of water damage that had to be cut out, replaced, and then have the entire floor sanded. The representative Tom arrived on time (as compared to the other two contractors, one of whom no-showed and the other rescheduled to another day). Specialized Services was licensed and insured (as opposed to one of the other contractors who was nether licensed nor insured). Specialized services was able to start the repair the next business day (as opposed to one of the other contractors who could not start for three weeks). The repair was perfect and the areas of damage was unnoticeable. The floors were like new and we are completely satisfied. Wise homeowners should get multiple bids, asking about licensing and insurance. I suggest that you should definitely include Specialized Services among the bidders for a hardwood floor installation, repair, and resurfacing jobs. read more

I had two small areas to be worked on - taking out some scratches in my wood floor and fixing a crack in a travertine tile. I didn't think I would be able to find someone to do the work, since the job was a small one. Tom Salazar came out to give me an estimate, and he didn't try to put me off because the job was small. He emailed the estimate and set a date for the work within a reasonable timeframe. The person who came to do the work was great! He took his time and did a wonderful job. The scratches in the wood floor didn't come out completely, but the workman told me that upfront. The floor looks much better than it did before. The fixing of the travertine was miraculous. I hired Specialized surfaces to refinish and repair the old white oak floors in my house which was built in the 50's. Mr. Tom Salazar came to evaluate the floors and explained what could be done and gave a time and monetary estimate. I also needed someone to move the furniture and this service was provided at an additional expense which was discounted. The two gentlemen that came were Mr Wilmer Lopez and John. They were both professional and efficient. They protected areas that needed to be covered and cleaned up at the end of each day. They explained my options as far as staining and finishes and provided me with sufficient information to guarantee my satisfaction. Specialized Surfaces was awesome! We had areas of water damage in our kitchen and bathroom and a recent leak from our dishwasher forced us to pull up the water damaged area. All our efforts to repair the 25 year old floors had me in tears! The original contractor suggested doing to do a patch job with wood flooring that did not even match and I knew there had to be a better solution. Thank God for Specialized Solutions! Tom found us the correct wood and his technician did a wonderful job installing, sanding and staining it to match the original floor! After meeting with them and 2 other paving and flooring companies in Orange County, we decided to go with Tom and his team. They were professional and knowledgeable and friendly. We found their pricing to be just right (fair) and when it came to bringing in their tools and picking out the paver material and type of marble for both these projects... it was good to have their advice in terms of what we were looking for. Tom initially came out and provided a quote to resurface our wood flooring (about 500 sq ft). We agreed on a price and date of service. David arrived on time and did a great job refinishing our floor. He worked very hard to tape up barriers in our house to minimize dust. He is very experienced and professional. These guys are terrible. The owner, Tom Salazar, is rude, dismissive and non-responsive, even when presented with multiple calls and emails. It was readily apparent that he didn't care about the job his company was going to do, probably because he's too busy attempting to line up other jobs so he can take more people's money without doing adequate work or even responding to basic questions or informational requests. I wouldn't even have given this company one star, but for the fact that this minimal rating is required to be able to post a review. My best advice to all reading this is to avoid Tom Salazar and his operation like the plague. You'll thank yourself for it later. read more

Tub/Shower alcove in glass subway tile. Responded quickly to our request for a quote and did so with a very fair price. Worked with us on a start date (we had a two week vacation scheduled). Worked with us on a day before install change, we couldn't find a prefab niche that we liked so we had them build one. It cost more than the original estimate of course but was within the terms of the agreement and again, at a fair price. Job site was cleaned up at the end of each day and after it was complete. I want to take the time to share with everyone what an AWESOME job "Specialized Surfaces" did in refinishing our wood floor's. We have a blond maple hard wood that we wanted refinished to a dark maple. This was a very difficult job as maple is a tuff wood to work with. Just had 1100 sq ft of laminate flooring installed by Specialized Surfaces. They put in a half day to check floor level, finish demo work performed by a different contractor, and mix/poor self leveling concrete where required. The next day they brought 3 installers and did the entire 1110 sq ft installation including grinding the floor where required and installing laminate. We knew that we needed an expert to complete the job without the risk of damaging them. We had a difficult decision to make and for this project, we obtained 7 quotes. After looking into each of the companies through the CSLB website, we found out that only four of them had a valid contractors license. We felt very comfortable with George, the owner of Jace. He has vast knowledge of hardwood floors with years of experience, has a friendly demeanor, and is a fellow dog rescuer. One of the other reviews mentions a customer's satisfaction with Jace's refinishing of their 100 years old floors. Though his quote was not the lowest, we chose quality over price. And we are so happy we did. Carlos, the lead tech on our project is also very knowledgeable and approachable. He answered all of our questions, and explained everything they were doing throughout the various stages of the process. Carlos's assistant, Jair is friendly and a hard worker. After the work was completed, Mike came to inspect the work, and grout the transition from our Dining Room to our kitchen. I didn't even have to ask them to do this. George suggested it to replace the ugly molding that was previously there, and on which we would frequently stub our toes. Mike returned a second time to drop off a complementary Bona cleaning kit. From the initial Yelp request to the finish of our project, George and his team were stellar, exceeding our expectations. Our floors look amazing, as if they were newly installed! Brian and I had an ongoing text conversation for days as to how to resolve the problem. He was patient and answered all of my questions without delay or hesitation.
