For our home improvement projects, we normally get at least 3 bids. Our 72 years old original hardwood floors were in dire need of refinishing. We knew that we needed an expert to complete the job without the risk of damaging them. We had a difficult decision to make and for this project, we obtained 7 quotes. After looking into each of the companies through the CSLB website, we found out that only four of them had a valid contractors license. We felt very comfortable with George, the owner of Jace. He has vast knowledge of hardwood floors with years of experience, has a friendly demeanor, and is a fellow dog rescuer. One of the other reviews mentions a customer's satisfaction with Jace's refinishing of their 100 years old floors. Though his quote was not the lowest, we chose quality over price. And we are so happy we did. Carlos, the lead tech on our project is also very knowledgeable and approachable. He answered all of our questions, and explained everything they were doing throughout the various stages of the process. Carlos's assistant, Jair is friendly and a hard worker. After the work was completed, Mike came to inspect the work, and grout the transition from our Dining Room to our kitchen. I didn't even have to ask them to do this. George suggested it to replace the ugly molding that was previously there, and on which we would frequently stub our toes. Mike returned a second time to drop off a complementary Bona cleaning kit. From the initial Yelp request to the finish of our project, George and his team were stellar, exceeding our expectations. Our floors look amazing, as if they were newly installed! This was a referral from a neighbor who had the hardwood floors repaired before they could move into their home in 2020. The finish was fading in high traffic areas and we had a recent event where some card tables and chairs that were lent to us unfortunately scratched and left sizable gouges in our floors. George was very responsive via text and came out to survey within the same week. The plan was to wash with Bona, buff, dye and stain the affected Area through the rest of the directional line. Then apply a semi-gloss top coating to restore it to its original glory. Good news is that the scratches and gouges disappeared! Bad news is that it is very fumey (headache inducing)and you can't walk in the entire area for 2 consecutive days except for a couple hours in between day 1 and day 2 work to grab what items in kitchen you may have forgotten! Choosing Jace to install our flooring was the single most important decision we could have made during our renovation, and we couldn't be more grateful to George and his team. I first reached out to George via yelp around Christmastime after we had just installed flooring through another vendor. The other contractor tried to convince us that the cracks and pops we were hearing would settle in time and that the bowing and unevenness was not correctable and done to industry standard. I had spent several nights lying awake worried about the state of our home. Within half an hour of reaching out to George at 5am he said not to worry and that he could see us within hours. It truly seemed like divine intervention as I don't believe anyone else would have been more qualified to diagnose and correct our issues. We were amazed to learn that not only was he an installer, he was also a flooring inspector. As we suspected, floor leveling had not been done properly. This was a crucial step that many contractors omit. Because we were on a raised foundation in an older home, George decided to use another layer of plywood along with leveling concrete. He quickly helped us find new sturdier flooring by Monarch Plank that matched the look of the flooring we needed to remove, and gave us a great deal on it. We had spent months in flooring shops trying to find what we were looking for prior. The installation process went smoothly and he had a team of wonderful skilled workers who documented all the areas of warping and created a level base for the new flooring to sit on. Very happy with my experience with George and his crew at JACE Hardwood Flooring. Our wood floors were 9.5yrs old and the finish was just not holding up. After doing some Instagram research, I set up an appointment for JACE to come out and take a look. Come to find out our floors were oil finished not urethane and should've been cleaned and re-oiled yearly, wish I had known that when I purchased them. George Gabe me some options and ultimately we went with refinishing for the longevity it would provide and lower maintenance than the yearly oiling. We unfortunately had some water damage to the flooring in those 9 years but staining them a slightly darker color provided camouflaging and George was up front that refinishing would not remove water damage. Refinishing was definitely cheaper than replacing and I am the only one who knows where the damaged spots are. I love my floors more than I did originally I think and look forward to many more years of them. The process took a couple days but was much less messy than I expected. The crew moved out furniture before they started and brought it back in when it was completed, even taking the beds apart and reassembling. I hired JACE to revive and restore (vs a complete reconditioning) my 40 year old parquet hardwood floors. While other contractors told me they couldn't do it, George at JACE said they could do it, and not only that, he was willing to work around some large furniture pieces, so that we didn't have to remove them from the rooms. We are happy to recommend JACE for new hardwood floors. I think the quality of their flooring work was good. I can't speak to the value as we got only 2 quotes, but it seemed fair to us. What I like best about George is that he took the time to educate us on the materials and process, and made sure we got beautiful wood flooring that we would love. George was professional and easy to work with. I would hire this company again, however I do have some caveats. First, I wouldn't hire them for baseboards. (We had an issue with that, but in the end George made up for it). Second, I would caution people that someone (or some people) on George's crew were really terrible about leaving a huge mess. They dug through our garage to find our broom and dustpan, used those to sweep up a ton of sawdust, then dumped the sawdust in our backyard where they also left the broom (on the patio) and the dustpan, stain container and stir stick, extra flooring materials, and cigarette butts in our bushes. Wow! That level of contempt for our property was shocking. Like I said, I would recommend JACE, but I would monitor things in person- be there the whole time. I had some good quality wood floors in my home. We changed color schemes from oak to a very dark mahogany finish. George refinished our floors to a impeccable level and we were extreme happy. Extremely satisfied with the outcome of our floors from Jace! Our original hardwood floor was installed years ago and we recently noticed that the floor was becoming soft due to water from under the foundation. We attempted to cover them with rugs (out of sight, out of mind) until we knew we had to replace them. JACE Hardwood Flooring was recommended as the ideal company to turn to after I saw my original contractor used less than half the recommended amount of finish for my floors' first finish coat. When George reviewed my floors, he also found cupping throughout my new solid white oak boards upstairs. And he found new engineered boards downstairs already delaminating, plus the misuse of red oak wood filler on new white oak stairs. He let me know that I could have had the solid oak flooring I wanted in my new kitchen -- instead of the engineered oak my contractor said was the only choice, given the concrete subfloor. George kindly shared his knowledge, explained pros and cons of various finish sheens, and agreed to take on my job -- if he could do it in a way that met his standards at every stage, so he could guarantee a lasting result. That meant going back to raw wood upstairs. In just 4 days, at a good price, his team had the cupped upstairs oak boards resanded and rebuffed and given a sealer coat plus 2 full finish coats, which were also applied downstairs. In that time, they also finished the stairs and stained and finished a set of risers my original contractor barely worked on. My floors are now beautiful, strongly finished and "baby butt" smooth -- what George says is the goal of any quality floor finish.
