Norris hot springs is only 40min from Bozeman and it's wonderful. I came here by myself this weekend and although it's definitely more of a social vibe, I still had fun. It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon- I came before the live music so unfortunately I didn't get to see that but I think it would be really fun. The really special part about this hot spring is that you can order food made from their farm grown vegetables and they'll bring it to you right in the pool. I only ended up with a kombucha but I think this would be a really fun activity for a date or if you have visitors and want to show them someplace special. The water felt incredible and not smelly from sulfur. The price is right too! Only $12 to soak. read more

Came across the Norris Hot Springs as the Bozeman hot springs were closed due to maintenance. It was a bit out of the way but we were pretty happy asI feel like it added to the secluded feel. It's not so much of a hot spring than more of a giant hot tub/pool but it was incredibly relaxing nonetheless. It doesn't have the absurd sulfur smell you get either which was nice. When you enter there are changing rooms immediately to your left with provided baskets and curtained areas for you to undress/change as needed. We left our bigger bags in there with clothes but brought our purses and what not to the pool area. We came on a Thursday in the early afternoon and it wasn't too crowded so finding a table with a few seats was fairly simple. Although it was a cooler day, the water was plenty warm!! We mostly sat on the side with the cold water spray because it offered a really great balance. We were also lucky that the sun was out and we got some great vitamin D. It was pretty cheap to get in and the food available is reasonably priced. My sister in law ordered the giant nachos that honestly was enough to keep our crew of 6 fairly satisfied. They do have a water fountain available, you can bring your own bottle or ask for a cup at the concession window. Stay hydrated and be sure to drink some water while you're there!! read more

OK I am going to be a buzz kill now.this used to be a hidden treasure of 105 degree water.it has become a wet bar now with tepid water and 10 dollar beer to wash down your 20 dollar nachos. If you are rolling in a kitted out sprinter and want an i.p.a. and meet some schmuck from jersey..then have at it.it has become a gentrified hipster habitat. I mourn the loss of the previous run down but hot and quiet soaks.this is a public pool now.and the rules ..oh no zine or vape or snuff or no more than 3 beers.and there's more and more .they sure like that alcohol money though.well thanks to internet another secret spot is blown up.might as well put a Panerai and a Starbucks up as well. Thumbs down Mainly because I have a frame of reference as to its unfortunate change.i wish someone would have bought it and kept it simple and maintained the integrity of a peaceful spot to have a quiet soak in the mountains. Everyone here was so kind. It was a very cute and quiet campground. We spent 3 nights here and went in the hot springs 2 times which were amazing !!!! The cafe inside was perfect and their gym was wonderful. Clean and lots of equipment . The campground had a cute game room for the kids and they rented little pedal go carts. $5 for 30 minutes and they loved it . Close location to gas stations, coffee and lots of other stuff. About 1.5 hour drive to west Yellowstone entrance. We mentioned to staff about a wasp nest in the tree and they came right over to our site to check it out. Highly recommend. read more

The place was amazing. The water felt really good. I like the vibe of where it was. It was very private. I enjoyed it. The only thing that I would have to point out is that the changing rooms were a little iffy there were no bathrooms in the changing room you had to go to a porta potty there were also Montana mad Popsicles. We've been stopping by here at least once a year. I usually come a group of friends but this time I had the pleasure to bring my daughters. If you enjoy outdoors and hot springs this is a great place to stop by. There is food, alcoholic drinks, refreshments and merchandise available for purchase. There are tables where you can enjoy relaxing, eating or just visiting others. There is also some shaded areas. There's a camping area as well. There's a ladies room with lockers and baskets available if you need to change into or out of your swim wear. It is an open room so theres no doors or curtains dividing sections for you to change in. There's a different room for the gents. There are no indoor bathrooms but honey buckets, which were nicely kept. Not trashed nor stinky. We ordered a pizza, it was crunchy just as I love it and cheesy. It was delicious. The water temperature was great, just what we needed to relax our bodies. They do have live music at times, you'll have to check out their calendar of events for that information. You can take your drinks into the hot spring except those served in glass. Everyone I've usually encountered are always friendly and respectful. It's such a neat place. Do bring a lock with you to use a locker or do as we did. Take your items out with you, find a place where you can keep an eye on them and where they won't get wet. read more

Definitely would not have found this place if we hadn't been with some Montana natives - it's such a local gem! It's a little out of the way, but completely worth the trek. While visiting Montana, my friends added hot springs to our things-to-do list. They really didn't say much about it, just that it was a little spring in the middle of nowhere, and I honestly was expecting a simple pool and that was it. Turns out that was NOT it. This place is like a little oasis. Enchanting, in a way. First of all, it's nice, well-maintained, and clean. Secondly, the pool set-up is great. It's spacious and has benches and sprinklers that emit cold water in case you get too hot, and they drain it and refill regularly. Thirdly, they have a plethora of food (like actually good, fresh food) and drink options. Even if I had seen a suggestion box, I wouldn't be able to come up with any suggestions. They are doing everything right. If I lived nearby, I would be such a regular. Couldn't recommend more! read more

My husband, son and I went there the other day and really enjoyed ourselves. First of all, the drive from Bozeman is gorgeous. Hills, fields and views of the Madison river make this journey a treat. The place itself is simple and pretty. The staff is super-friendly and helpful. The soaking pool was clean and deliciously warm. Wasn't too crowded when we got there. Expect lots of people and drinking going on. Not crazy though on a Saturday afternoon of the holiday weekend. The changing rooms were clean too. The food is delicious! We enjoyed the chicken quesadilla very much! All in all, this is a great stop, especially after doing lots of hiking in the gorgeous nature of the area. Highly recommend. read more

Overall the place is a good time and the water temperature is perfect for relaxing for hours without having to exit to cool off. The door price is cheap and they play live music a few nights every week. Food selection is nice and what I had was pretty tasty. Downsides, there is only one hot spring to use so if you like multiple pools with different temperatures you won't find that here. Drinks are $5 for a 12oz beer and they cut you off after 3 drinks. However, seems like a lot of people bring booze in a bottle and just drink more anyway. They serve your food while you're in the hot spring, not a big deal until you have someone's pizza crust float by you... In a nutshell, it can be a cheap way to spend your night if you come on a full stomach with a couple shooters in your pocket. Don't expect anything fancy, but expect a fun, relaxing time with good live music. read more

This is a basic hot spring location. It is entirely outdoors. There are changing rooms, but no shower facilities. The only toilets are port-a-potties. There is food and beverages (including alcohol) available at the site. The admission cost for adults is $8. We had a nice afternoon, but I have been to other hot springs in the area that offer a few more amenities, so it really depends on what overall experience you're looking to have. read more

This used to be a quite, relaxing place, a bit of a hidden jem for MT locals. But yesterday's trip out which has been more than 8 years since I've visited was beyond the busiest I have ever seen it. Which I know is good for business. However I called in the morning to confirm hours and when we arrived out there we saw people standing in the parking lot and it wasn't until someone asked us if we were on the wait list-- something you should mention when someone calls. We ended up having to wait over an hour in the parking lot. We nearly left and then they decided to allow half of our party in. They were reducing capacity but don't know what they were basing numbers off because there was easily over 30 people in the pool, of which there is only 1 pool. They did ask guests to wear masks when out of the pool, yet several people didn't. It was rather disturbing that they allowed guests to eat pool side, and drink in the pool, might explain the extra slime on the pool bottom. Let alone we didn't see any circulation of water to indicate it being filtered, and the top water layer was oily. Don't know that we will be back. The perk of the day was the amazing weather outside!!! read more

Being a Gallatin Valley kid, I spent a lot of time at Norris Hot Springs. It's great. Family friendly AND they serve beer. Why four stars? Well ... on my last visit there, staff congregated in the warmest part of the pool and just got comfy. I'm kinda thinking ... you can soak anytime you want, losers, so move on outta the way. It was just lame. Staffers were nice, without question, and we enjoyed our time there - perfect complement to a long, long, long day hike - but it seemed a bit rude to be taking up that much space in the pool. That's not a commentary on the size of the pool, either. There was plenty of room ... so again, staffers, share your love of the warmest corners and move on out next time you see paying customers milling around. read more

We camped here for 4 days and had a blast! We hot springed morning noon and night. There's a warmer (hot!) side to the pool and a cooler side, depending where you hang out. The manager made some amazing food while we're there...we had pizzas, asparagus, the best potato salad! The homemade slaw and burger was fabulous too! The live music on Friday night was a great! Great guy! Nice bathroom to shower in for the campground! No complaints! Staff was helpful and friendly! We will be returning for sure!! read more

A friend I was with dubbed this "the original dive bar" near Bozeman, MT. Definitely relaxing- cool music (with performers kept warm in a geodesic dome with colored lighting) - in the middle of what, at least in the dark to get there on a cold (for Californians!) Saturday night, looked to be an oasis in the middle of nowhere. The large pool is wonderful and warm, lots of people there but everyone is Midwestern-courteous friendly, and it was sooooooo relaxing! Definitely not a resort type spot- down to earth local flavor- but (although we didn't eat or get drinks) the wine list looked good (great selection including local organic wines and a Malbec on the list - in my adopted Californian mindset I didn't expect to find that on the list and I will admit I was impressed) and they had several interesting appetizer, food options (pizzas smelled really really yum!) Prices were definitely not Bay Area- major plus! $7 entry (it's $5 earlier in the day) and drink options averaged between $5 and $7 - $1 sodas. Food prices were really reasonable too- I would love to go back on a return visit to Bozeman! Still toasty after the drive back! read more

Norris Hot Springs is great! Being from the Bay Area and in awe of the nature that Montana offers it was so nice to take about a 40 minute drive West and enjoy a picturesque view of the river and hills and animals to then arrive to the "Water of the Gods". This place is not fancy by all means, it's simple but pleasant. It's basically a wooden hot tub with water temperature reaching around 100. I came mid-week, right after 4 pm (when they open) and there were about a handful of other people. Since it wasn't the weekend, there was no live music, but the folk music they played (playlist included Bon Iver) was perfect. We had a few drinks. Beer was very reasonable and came in a large cup. The wine was pretty reasonable and came in a pretty small glass. We each tried a burrito which satisfied as a decent snack, but not quite a typical tasting or sized "SF" burrito. It wasn't bad though just different. We also had their salad special which had spinach, bleu cheese, sunflower seeds and apples - yumm!! very fresh too! The reason I would completely recommend this place is because it is peaceful and relaxing. To sit in a large natural hot spring, have a drink in hand, and be surrounded by wonderful nature - i think that's great. I can imagine with more people it may be different, but to have a great view and to be surrounded by other people intending to relax, I thought it perfect. Also, there is cool water being sprinkled from above which helps as you get hotter and hotter and can retreat under the misty spray to cool down. Extra info: there are no permanent established bathrooms, just porta-potties discreetly tucked away and kept clean. There is a small changing room as well, separated also by sex. There is nice tables and chairs to the side of the tub in case you need a break from the water, and also another area on some grass a bit further away, but keep in mind you can also drink/eat in the tub too! I didn't get to hear live music which is supposedly on the weekends, nor was I here during the winter which I think could make a trip here even better! Definitely I will come back next time I'm in town. read more

I've been going to Norris Hot Springs for many years now, and it has always been talked up by my coworkers and Bozeman locals as a great place to enjoy some music, soak, and relax. But as of this year, I think Norris Hot Springs has priced its way out of my budget. I'll happily pay for a quality experience, but $5 for a small microwaved plate of tortilla chips sprinkled with cheese is a bit much. The salads are good since the ingredients are grown in the on-site garden, but the other items are gas station quality at main street prices. The soak fee has also recently gone up. Maybe there is so much demand for the place that they have to up the prices to keep it less crowded? I used to not mind the 70 mile round-trip drive from Bozeman, but lately I've been thinking twice before I go. read more

Wasn't quite sure what to expect by going to a hot springs on a late October night, but WOW!!! What a great experience!!! We went with the private party option. While it was high 30's outside, the water was 102*. Doris, our host, was FANTASTIC!! She made sure to make us feel at home. Don't expect too much from the food menu, but it had everything you need when you're hanging in a hot tub. They serve beer and wine, and Doris made sure we were taken care of. Thought it was alright. The staff was chill and helpful. The lack of different pools with different temperatures, and a lack of intimacy, were a drawback. It's just one big pool, nothing spectacular. Symes is better in that dept, I don't know why the other places haven't copied their simple idea of making individual stalls (sort of like big, handicapped accessible toilet stalls) with a 6' clawfoot tub, and individual hot and cold taps, so people can have it the way they want it. This is our favorite destination when we travel across the US. We always make sure to plan a few days just to soak in the pool here! It has everything!!! It is out in the middle of nowhere! Beautiful views (wildlife such as deer and sand hill cranes on the mtn side) Small campground (9 sites) never crowded An amazing organic menu for when you get hungry Cold beer on tap and wine A working garden on sight and the best part is the pool. They empty it each evening and then fill it during the night so it has fresh warm spring water each day. The cooling system is a sprinkler that rains down on you so you can cool off when you get too hot. Great people, very laid back and friendly. The grill is open from 5:30-9:00 but you can still order delicious non-grill items all day. And the food is exceptional. Fresh, organic, local, and delicious..For instance, yesterday I had a lovely organic salad with veggies from the garden and a grass fed hamburger with blue cheese and caramelized onions. WOW! We stay in the campground which is $33 for RV's and $22 for tenters, very few people so we literally have the area to ourselves, so quiet and peaceful. You will pinch yourself wondering how this little gem can be out in the middle of nowhere and be sooo wonderful. I kid you not - it is truly an exceptional experience. This is a nice place to spend a chilly afternoon soaking in the hot pool. The pool is a decent size and a perfect temperature to relax in. You can order beer and wine to enjoy at the pool. They also have a pretty decent menu that includes local fare. The pizza smelled great although we didn't order any. The bathrooms are portapotty style that were not very clean. Also, my down jacket was stolen from the women's changing room within five minutes of being there. If you do decide to stop at Norris hot springs I'd suggest bringing all your stuff out to the pool with you so no one takes it. Or bring a lock and use a locker. I expect more from Montanans because we're generally an honest and honorable bunch. But obviously that wasn't the case at the hot springs this weekend. read more

I was visiting my sister in Bozeman and had looked into the Bozeman Hot Springs but was told Norris was much better. Not only was their spring outside, versus inside, but they serve booze. Norris is a bit of a drive from Bozeman but it was pretty and scenic. We went a week ago so it was about zero degrees outside and colder with the wind. When we arrived, I didn't think I would even be able to strip down to my swim suit and looked at everyone already in the pool like they were crazy. However, I forced myself and it was worth it. We arrived around 5:30pm on a Friday and it was not too crowded. They serve beer and wine and maybe some liquor. They also have food which looked good but I couldn't fathom eating while soaking wet. It was WAAAAY too cold to get out after being in to break and eat. However, we did split a pizza inside their tiny cafe before heading back to Bozeman and it was pretty good, standard but def tasty. We did have to get out of the water for drinks. They make everyone get out of the pool to retrieve your own beverage, even if someone paid for you. As annoying as this was in the bitter cold, I totally understand why they do it so I would not mark them down for it. Live music started around 6pm, which was awesome. The crowd started to really pick up around 7. It is just one pool and not a huge one at that. There were kids there, which would be my biggest grievance. They were swimming with noodles and toys while their parents sat on the side drinking. I was a lifeguard for eight years so the kids made me super nervous in the dark. I highly recommend Norris but come early to beat the crowd. I have two suggestions for winter visitors... order your first round of drinks before getting into the pool. Also, bring flip flops that can get wet to leave by the pool side for when you exit. They heavily salt the area around the pool (to avoid ice, understandle!) but the salt was SO painful to walk on. This place was so nice! We were looking for a place that wasn't like most of the other that looked like normal swimming pools. This place is in a natural calm setting with grassy fields and flowers. The Hot Springs also has a garden onsite that most of their produce comes out of for their amazing garden salads. The floor, walls and benches inside to pool are wood, very smooth - no worries of splinters... We enjoy ourselves and the company of other friendly folks maxing and relaxing in these refreshing hot springs. Lucky are those who can come here often and be refreshed, but it's back to Seattle for us - WE'LL BE BACK! read more

This place is a regular stop on our travels in SW MT. If you are put off by small changing rooms, portable toilets and being out in a natural setting you might just as well keep driving. We enjoy the opportunity to soak, while listening to some local music, drinking some local beers and sampling what the most recent creation out of the garden is. Sure, it is probably a bit overpriced. It has its own atmosphere, and one I actually like better than Chico in many ways. The staff is always friendly, and might feel a little too hippie to some, but watching the wildlife on the hillside, while soaking, with beer in hand, under the MT skies is pretty special. read more
