I have been a customer of Norris for more than 20 years until today. It all started about a year or so ago when they changed their sales policies and started actively pushing up-sales through a practice they refer to as a courtesy check. When my wife or I would bring our cars in for routine maintenance we would get a call saying that they found other problems that should be addressed and since they had the car apart it would be less expensive if they were addressed now. The suggested repairs they estimated were three times the cost the car was originally brought in for. I would ask if they thought it was critical and they would say it should be repaired like I didn't have a choice. The first time this happened I thought well I have been coming here for 20 years they must be right so I went along to the tune of $2500+. A year after this I brought the same car back in for the rear brakes, and I again get a call that says they found more repairs that should be done about $1700.. This time I was really perplexed as the car was just repaired a little over a year ago why all of a sudden is it needing so many repairs and why didn't they find these new repairs a year ago? So I asked the service advisor and the answer I got is this is part of their Courtesy Check practice which according to the shop manager was started 4 years ago. I asked them to please stop the practice as I was not interested in their constant barrage of suggested up-sales. I also said if they didn't stop I would not return. The service advisor replied that it was store policy and he could not do that. The shop manager also said the same. So I told them that I would not be coming back. read more

They replaced a flat on our car last week, professional and courteous front desk experience. I would say 5 stars but the only tire they had in for us was $220. Ouch! Very open airy waiting area, and they do have a shuttle if you need to drop off. We'll be back, but hopefully not for awhile. read more

I went to Norris to winterize my fun car, a 2012 Madza Mita 5. They completed an inspection and found a few things wrong that were logical and timely in regard to mileage. I gave them the ok to do the repairs and it was all done by the end of the day. I knew that the business has changed hands and was worried that 20+ years ofgood courteous service might not continue. Thank you so much. It is my first visit to your shop. I was in town for a wedding and a reunion w/family & dear friends. I used to live here & raised my children here for almost 20 years. I now live in North Carolina. When my engine light starting blinking, I had just arrived in Champaign on a Thursday afternoon, and as I pulled into my "bestie" Juanita Song's driveway. I immediately showed her the blinking light. She got her purse, got in my car and off we drove straight to your shop! The rest is a BLESSING! I was told you were booked solid the remainder of the day, also on Friday, and on Saturday, too. I said, "That's ok, I'll drive on to where I'm staying in town & come back Monday early. Then the kind lady waiting on me said, "Oh, I'm sorry, but you can't drive your car anywhere, at all. You must leave it here now." To make a song story short, Juanita & I got a ride back to our respective "homes" w/ Will, my oldest son (in town from CA). No problem: I had my son and my other "bestie" friend (Joan) w/whom I was staying nearby who could be my chauffeurs. So on Monday, I received a kind message that my car was being checked that morning. Then soon a phone call around noon with good news that my car needed new spark plugs. Hallelujah!!!! Relief that the trouble was "not real bad" ~ another PRAISE ! Anyway Joan brought me back when I got a phone call that my Honda was ready!! (It was around 2pm. Another Hallelujah When I picked up my car, the nice lady showed me a spark plug with its very top (about 1/2 inch long) was totally black. After she explained, I knew that my car and I had been saved (blessed ) . I could have been driving in the middle of the West. Virginia mountainous countryside on the freeway far away from HELP if the light had started blinking about 4 hours earlier. I am so grateful to Norris Tire & Auto Center for: their expertise in analyzing the situation, totally repairing the problem efficiently, their thorough & kind explanation re why I couldn't drive the car after I first pulled into Norris Tire 3 days earlier, Amen. I took a garden tracter front tire in today. The tire was still on the rim, no screws or nails were in it. Just needed a swipe of sealant and air. That's it. 5 minute max. Charged me $29.50. Sorry that's absurd. read more

Norris told me that I had oil leaks. They kept me van for a week and they tell me the leaks are fixed.

I took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. I had no mechanical issues before visiting. They forgot to rotate my tires and damaged my oil pans seal. I lost 3/4 a quart of oil in 15 miles. Now they're saying the damage they did to my car is 2k+ . They somehow didn't see any oil leak before when I brought it in but 1 week and 15 miles later there's a massive leak that mysteriously happen but not their fault. They were very dismissive about the serious nature of this. I can't use my vehicle now and I don't have the money to get it fixed. I can't give a zero star rating or I would. read more

So, I brought my new truck in for a standard alignment and tire rotation. It turned out that because my truck has an after market kit on it, there were custom changes made to the tie rods and other components. So, the technicians at Norris Tire & Auto basically did research and found out how to redo that part of my truck in the correct manner. We were experiencing slow leak in a tire on our Mazda. Thus my search for a reputable tire shop was quickly underway. I found Norris. Hubs took our Mazda to Norris at about Noon on a Thursday afternoon and he was in and out in under 30 minutes. I was convinced I had run over a nail in one of the many constructions areas on campus. I was right. The tech at Norris pulled about a 1" nail from the tire and then plugged it. Yay! The best part is that Hubs left Norris spending less than $20. Total scammers. Needed new front brakes. They quoted me between $550-$650 which seemed in line with what I spent last time I replaced them. Parts on line are $240 max. So I get a call saying calipers also need replacement and it will be $1030 now. As I'm driving to pick up the vehicle from Michigan I call to pay over the phone in case I don't make it by closing time. They now tell me it's over $1400. I replied no, that's not what I was told on the phone. 20 minutes later they called me back saying ok it's $1,100. No explanation whatsoever! The bill shows over $800 for parts and only 200 in labor. I looked up the brand they said they used and the max I could find is $240 in parts. I feel this place took complete advantage of me knowing I was from out of town. read more

the work we've had done here has always been satisfactory but the front counter professionalism is lacking. I arrived 5 minutes til my scheduled time to DROP OFF keys for a brake job. Was told to wait and they'd get with me. no big deal, after 15 minutes of becoming background noise to the front desk while multiple other phone calls were made, and no attempt to let me know I hadn't been forgotten about was made, I left. I'll probably give them another shot because as I said the work has always been good, and is probably why they are so busy. But the front counter service needs an upgrade and they'd probably be even busier. Fingers crossed for next time. read more

I had high hopes for Norris Tire & Auto Center when my tire developed a slow leak. Called the day before to double-check that they could work on my electric vehicle, mentioning the make and model three separate times during the phone call. Was assured by the person on the phone that they could work on my vehicle and I could just bring it in without an appointment, as long as I got there before 4pm. Took time off from work to bring the car in the next day, and was promptly (and somewhat rudely) informed that they wouldn't be able to look at my car because their "tire guy" wasn't at work that day. Then the guy said that they might be able to look at it before closing, but couldn't guarantee it. He went to look at my car and then, realizing the make and model, said that he couldn't work on it, because he was afraid of the liability if he damaged it. He then claimed that I hadn't told the person on the phone the make and model, that if I had, they never would have told me to bring it in. Ended up taking it to a competitor, who was more than happy to perform the tire repair. Very disappointed, first in the inconsistency between what I was told over the phone and then in person, but more by the rudeness of the person at the store. Never once did he apologize for the inconvenience and for the miscommunication. Poor customer service. I try to be understanding of when businesses are short-staffed, which is very often these days. But this experience makes it so that I cannot recommend Norris Tire & Auto Center, based purely on their conduct. read more

The man who answered the phone was very rude to me so I took my vehicle somewhere else. The competitor was friendly, more than happy to help me and answer all my questions. I had two new front tires put on my Dodge caravan. $140 each. Took them 4 days to put them on and they claimed they couldn't get four lug nuts off so they had to drill them off. Yet they charge me for all new wheel studs and lug nuts! So after being quoted $280 before taxes I picked my van up at just under $540 for two front tires and they are the bottom of the barrel cheap tires!! Won't be back!! I dropped my car off after lunch and they had it ready at 4:30 when I got off work. I worked with Tyler T. and he was excellent. I recently had the awful experience of having two tires slashed. I looked up tire companies and teetered between going to Walmart, which I figured would be least expensive, and Norris, a local and family-owned company. The insistent advocate for small business in me won (despite how poor I am these days), and I called up Norris. I am SO glad I did. I called at 9:00am and talked to Scott. I told him my story and asked if I could bring my car in this week or next. He said to bring it on in today, and then asked if a tow truck already had my car. No, I hadn't called up a tow company yet, and he said not to worry, that he would take care of it. He took down the description of my car and its location and said he would send someone to pick it up. Less than an hour later, Scott calls me to say that my car would be ready in HALF AN HOUR. In just 1.5 hours, they had arranged for my car to be picked up, had gotten it to the shop, and had the new wheels on my car. The price ended up being very fair, and especially considering the short time it took and the outstanding customer service. On my way out the door, Scott told me they rotated the new tires to the front (it had been my rear tires that were slashed) -- something I hadn't even asked of them. What professionals! I went from being quite moody about the car vandalism to being completely happy and positive. While it sucks that people out there slash tires for no good reason, people like Scott & the other staff at Norris restore your faith in humanity. read more
