My family has had a house at the north end of Carova beach for almost thirty-five years. In that time, I've never, ever needed a tow-truck. I've never been stuck and not been able to finagle my way out of it. It was a radiator hose that finally got me. I got two miles down on the beach before steam came gushing out from underneath the hood and I was dead in the water, no pun intended. The tide was coming in so I wanted to get out of there as quick as I could. So I put in the call. The guys were out there in about 45 minutes, had my car tied up and towed me off the beach to their place just north of what I will always call Winks. Chase and Jeff don't have a shop, but he looked under my hood and told me they could temporarily fix it by by-passing the heater core. I never asked about money. I knew how infamous the prices were for towing on the beach, but I didn't have any other option. The next day Jeff was out beside his refurbished ambulance cum garage, working on the car. He was going to McGyver the heck out of it- metal pipes in hand, trying to figure out how to get these different sized hoses connected. He told a joke a la Jeff Foxworthy and had a Budweiser can that was actually a promotional bit: the word WATER was emblazoned in blue upon the side. Over thirty years of fixing people as a paramedic and cars as a mechanic. I asked which one was harder and he said, "I treat them both the same: I try to do no harm." I went to our beach house for a couple of days with my family, (my brother in law has much better luck with radiator hoses) and was able to pick the car up on a rainy Sunday from his house on the beach. I gave him call, hopped in the car, drove back to beach house and sat down as I called him up to settle the bill. I'm glad I sat down because the whole fiasco cost me close to a thousand dollars, but there's no other choice really. And considering how stressful something like this can be- breaking down on the beach with the tide coming in and no shop for twenty five miles is nuts- Chase and Jeff made it feel as if it was just another day. We needed a quart of oil on Carova and Chase helped us out! He was super responsive and prompt and got us just what we needed. We mentioned in passing we had been walking looking for horses (from a safe distance) and he even gave us a quick call after the oil pick-up to let us know where he saw a few just after we headed out, which was so thoughtful and shows his care for his community and home. After making a bad decision of driving my standard car onto the beach (pics provided) I needed assistance getting my car unstuck. A security officer recommended that I try to lower the pressure on my tire and try and see if that work as a tow truck would likely do that too. I didn't want to damage my car trying so she went ahead and called North Beach Recovery. Chase-the operator was extremely helpful. Took about 10 minutes to get to me. Once he did, he quoted me $375 plus a $20 credit card processing fee. He lowered my tire pressure, winched me back about two feet, and I was then able to reverse and drive back onto concrete. While he was quick and efficient--I winced at the price given. I was curious what the website said and it states //////We're unable to provide a price list, as each job is unique. Some customers are close to our headquarters, while others are much further afield. The time of day, equipment used, amount of vehicles needed and the number of staff required for each rescue operation are all variables which affect the final bill./// (https://corollatowing.com/faq/) I had to move some money around to pay and he was good about saying to let him know when my debit card was good to be charged. Service-Excellent Communication-Fantastic. Chase did his job excellent with a smile on his face. Price--felt like I got the dumb tourist rate....so that's my only headache. I almost wished I tried lowering my tires first to see if I could've gotten myself out or I was hoping a Good Samaritan had the ability to assist as several cars/trucks/jeeps drove by. I'm rating 4/5 stars as I can't help but to wonder what a local would've been charged as well as wondering why a business charges a $20 for a credit card processing fee. read more

$695 for 5 minutes worth of work is called "price gouging." Price gouging is considered a violation of unfair or deceptive trade practice laws in some places. I was quoted $475 which was bad enough only to find out later that I had been up-charged due to inclement weather. Call anyone but this company. read more

Good luck if you have "CHASE" as their technician. A towing Company that's scam people who need assistance for breakdown vehicles. They use pressure tactics, scares individual to agree to their terms and even work with law enforcement to make sure you fall into their scams. Our vehicle was stuck in sand. Chase conveniently came to our rescue in 15 mins without me asking for him. I was speak with my insurance agency. Chase was polite and courteous in the beginning. When I told him my insurance agency is sending the in-network towing company in 30 to 45 minutes. Chase showed his true colors. He forcefully started connecting his cables to the car and demanded that I pay him $325 cash and work with my insurance to reimburse me. He also threatened me to take the vehicle to his impound site and pay heavier fines and deal with lost time and deal with paperwork. The law enforcement person sided with the towing company that my car was in way and I can not wait for 30 mins to get my insurance in-network towing company. Chase eventually moved my car out of ditch and insisted I sign his paperwork. My insurance company in the mean time agreed to work with his company but Chase kept forcing me to sign his paperwork. He tried blocking my car to leave the driveway even when his boss told him they managed to squeeze my insurance out to get scammed business. Chase finally threw the owner copy at me and drove away. This was a horrible experience one could only dream of. Never ever call this agency for towing service. You are not required to sign any documents. The towing company cannot forcefully take the vehicle and law enforcement should give reasonable amount of time before impounded the vehicle. Do not under any circumstances give your keys to this towing company. I have a keyless car and allowed him to start. This caused Chase more furious since he had nothing to hold on to. This was a pure case of scammers, taking advantage of the situation and even high Jacking the vehicle. Think again if you want to use these criminal. They make $325 for about 15 mins work. Felt sorry for my family who had to go through the stressful moments. read more

Had Chase and son come out on a Saturday night as I had locked myself out of my condo while repairing (yes repairing) a lock. He not only was able to get the door open he also installed my new electronic keypad lock. Very professional. Made sure he got it right. Made sure I was pleased with his work. Family stated that I would never get anyone out on a Saturday, but Chase proved them wrong. I called him at 7:00 and he was in Duck from Corolla in 30 minutes. During my families stay my dad ended up getting stuck on the beach. This guy pulls up saying he will tow us for $375. Our house was a 2 minute walk away. We decided to dig the underneath of the car out and the man who owns this business just sat there watching and making comments the entire time, treating us like idiots for digging the car out. We eventually got the car out and we're very glad we did not give this man business. Later on in our stay we noticed he sits close to where the sand is the worst. We rented a Jeep to drive on the beach. We were going good until we got slightly stuck in the deep sand. Luckily for us North Beach Recovery stopped with his beautiful dog, Zeus in the back. He helped us get the Jeep in 4 wheel low and we were off. He was very kind to stop and help, a true southern gentleman. It was rewarding to see that kindness still exists!!! read more

I got stuck on wild horse beach and thought this guy was being nice by offering assistance only to find out he was about to charge me $325 to pull me out of the sand. A 15 minute job at best. Nope. I got several volunteers to help dig out my jeep and off I went with my hard earned money in my pocket. I was staying at a rental one row off that beach and watched this joker prey upon families. He was there everyday at high tide and didn't leave until well after dark. I don't begrudge anybody trying to earn a living but it pisses me off when posers like this guy rape people when they're in a vulnerable position. Total scum in my book. My advice, stay off that beach during high tide if your vehicle doesn't have a lot of clearance. Or pay someone a Benjamin to help dig you out. read more

I can not tell you what a vulture this guy is. He charged me $795 to move my truck off of a post . It took him 10 minutes to lift the truck and move it less than 1 foot. No towing, no mileage. 1 foot!! I had to talk him out of the $100 after hours charge since it was at 5:45pm and it took him 5 minutes to get there. I'm sure he was waiting around the corner to prey on some tourist that got stuck on the beach. Other stories talk of him charging $325 to pull people free. It's definitely not fun to get your car stuck in the sand, lost in the dark AND at high tide AND have a thunderstorm roll in. We called North Beach Recovery and they found us and got us out of there really quickly. Very good service, and they also led us off the beach and directly to the door of our rental house. A bit surprised at the cost, especially since he said he was giving us a break on the charge. Total was $545 without tip. Thunderstorm surcharge, perhaps? Not mad -- it's dangerous to be on the beach during a thunderstorm! And, I guess you get what you get when you do something stupid like try to find your way in an unfamiliar place on a dark beach at high tide (without letting the air out of your tires). I flew into Norfolk at 12am on a Sunday, drove straight to the Outer Banks, I deflated my tires to 20lbs psi and hit the sand doing about 20mph when I realized my SUV wasn't anything close to what it would take to get 10 miles down 4x4 beach to my vacation rental. So what did I do? Like any Mexican I pushed the pedal to the metal, pointed toward the ocean in hopes of the tide being low enough to ride the hard pack all the way to my door step. The theory worked for 9.5 miles until I turned up the beach and got stuck in the soft sand at 4am with a pregnant wife and a 20 month old. Admittedly, I was worried because I had no idea where I was or what I was doing. #dumbtourist Luckily I could make phone calls and got ahold of my friends who were only a 1/2 mile away who picked us up in their 4x4 that they had properly rented for this excursion. The next morning I called Chase who sent his son out to grab my keys from the Vacation Rental, got my car out of the sand, towed it back 9.5 miles to the main road, parked it safely and then came back to drop of my keys. What excellent service! A few days later when I got to my car, after a great get away vacation, it was parked where they said it would be and Chase's son even refilled my tires with air! I was so impressed with Chase's son's professionalism and politeness that I called Chase and had to tell him what a great job he did raising his boy. This is a family business run with professionalism and integrity. Chase, thanks to you and your son, my idiocy was corrected and I was able to do what I set out to do, chill on the beach with my family, worry free. Thank you so much. read more

The two mile tow was needed l'll admit but I think he didn't give me the $450 price tag until we were off the beach because he knew I'd seek other options. A helpful passerby with a tow rope could have taken care of me. I'll be more diligent next time and work out the cost ahead of time. Hopefully there won't be a next time. read more

Well, we learned the hard way not to use Ocean Pearl Rd. After a thunderstorm came through, we tried to get out via that road and ended up getting stuck in one of the puddles. On a Sunday, these guys picked up and came right out. They were extremely friendly and professional, not at all judgmental about an already embarrassing situation. Didn't take any effort at all to pull me out, but it did require Chase to drive through a couple of the puddles himself to get to me, and it raised the price of the recovery. But I sure appreciated him being there. I'll be honest, I truly hope not to need these guys again, but I'll be keeping their business card in my glove compartment to call if I do need recovery. Absolutely awful, $225 to unlock a car. Chase said it would take him 3 hours to get to and from Corolla beach. The entire phone call he was snappy and unprofessional. If you get locked out, best bet is to break your own window and get it replaced, you'll still come out cheaper than $225. read more

I got stuck in the sand a couple hundred yards down the beach and the response was very quick but he told me it would be "three seventy five" to get me out. Didn't specify whether it would be three dollars and seventy five cents or three hundred and thirty five dollars, cause surely it wouldn't cost $375 to deflate the tires a little bit and winch me back no more than 5 feet? Not to mention the gloss over the $20 fee to use your card just in case you forgot to bring $375 cash to go off-roading; $395 total. He said insurance would pay for it all if I told them I just got stuck in a soft shoulder on highway 12 NC instead of off-roading, but I'm not going say something that isn't true-leaving me out $400. read more

These guys, Chase especially, and his son as well are great! Our suburban's 4 wheel drive quit and we ended up stuck in the sand. He lowered our tires quite a bit to give us traction, towed our car, and followed us out to ensure we were good to go. He even fixed my bumper and rode with us to determine if it was the 4 wheel drive that was giving us problems. He felt it was an actuator problem and there were other issues after my 17 year old rode our car through some puddles like it was an army vehicle. Chase recommended Kitty Hawk Automotive and Truck Repair to fix the damages before we left to go back to our home in PA. We took the suburban there, rented a Jeep for the night and they repaired it so we could drive back to Pittsburgh. Chase really took the extra time. So did the Automotive people. Before the repair both Chase and his son rescued us a second time without a charge. His son was super nice and helpful as well. We highly recommend Chase and his son! They are great people with great business ethics! read more

My boyfriend and made a mistake and rented a dune buggy from Buggin Out OBX. It stalled on the beach and Ronda was wonderful after a very frustrating few hours for us. Was charged $245 for less than 10 minutes of work. I am disappointed because Chase did not give us the price until after the easy pull. I should have asked but it was so easy and quick it was my mistake. I figured maybe $50-75 for the less than 10 min of help. Felt like he took advantage of us being new to the beach. I would have gotten help from Twiddy who would have towed for free if I called but since he was right there, I said sure. Not a great way to start vacation feeling that we were taken. It is sad when a company watches for people to leave there car to issue a $165 parking ticket. Chase the owner of North Beach recovery was 20 ft from us and could've had the decency to say if you step out of the front of the parking lot he would put a boot on your tire. Instead of saying anything he watched us leave. When we came back 20 minutes later he had a boot on out tire. Got stuck in the sand at the north beaches in OBX with my rental SUV, Ronda was great and helped us get out of the sand and told us all the stuff we needed to do to get the car out of sand. Thankfully with her advice and help of some guys who were driving by we were able to get the car out without any problems. She didn't charge us anything as she said that since she did not have to use her tow truck she would not charge anything. She was absolutely amazing. I had a flat tire on my way down to the Outer Banks for our annual family vacation. Not a great way to start! Once we got to Corolla, I promised myself I would call around to get the flat replaced before we headed back....of course Monday rolled around and I was enjoying the beach too much, and promised to make a few phone calls. North Beach was right up the road from us, and Chase answered the call. What a professional! He found an exact match to my tire, ordered it, drove to my rental property, picked up the flat, and mounted the new tire in time for us to head home. He even dropped off the new tire so I didn't need to pick it up. Super convenient, and made a bad part of our vacation a simple task. This guy is the only one you should call. Good sense of humor, helped me out big time. I didn't feel pressured or inconvenienced in any way. I would give him 5 more stars if I could.
