An unforgettable dining experience in the heart of North Beach! After years of searching for restaurants that truly understand food allergies, we finally found one that exceeded every expectation. Our server, Nino, was outstanding. He was warm, professional, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure our family had a wonderful evening. As soon as we explained our many food allergies and my husband's celiac disease, he immediately put us at ease. He told us they have a new chef from Milan who is very knowledgeable about gluten-free cooking and food allergies. Hearing those words was music to our ears! The food was absolutely delicious. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly and incredibly flavorful. My mocktail, The Impostore, was refreshing and one of the best alcohol-free drinks I've had. To top off the evening, the poached pear dessert was simply amazing...the perfect ending to a memorable meal. The atmosphere was just as wonderful as the food. Being in the heart of North Beach during the 250th Anniversary of the United States over Fourth of July weekend created such an exciting, festive energy. We were seated right away even with a festival going on and us being an hour early to our reservation. If you're debating between the ragu and bolognese - go with the ragu! Came here on Saturday for a friend's birthday and wanted to give a special shoutout to Nino for his impeccable service! He was friendly, patient, attentive, and an absolute delight to be around. He made sure to check in on us throughout the evening and ensured we had everything we needed. The food was delicious. We ordered the Tortellini, Tagliatelle Bolognese, and Fritto Misto as an appetizer, and everything was fantastic. Nino also recommended some great drinks, including the Sangue e Sabbia, which we really enjoyed. For dessert, the tiramisu was one of the best we've ever had, and the limoncello was amazing, great flavor and definitely a generous pour! You could feel the burn, but in the best way possible. We finally made it here for dinner after years of passing by, putting it on our list, then forgetting! We went for an early weekday dinner and it was at first fairly empty but filled quickly. We were greeted warmly, and then strangely led to a table, began to sit, and then were ushered to another table under the guise of the initial table being meant for a larger party. Shortly after, a party of the same size were seated there. ?? We ordered a variety of dishes and everything (pasta, meat dishes, etc) was fine except for the dry fish dishes which completely lacked salt and flavor. Very odd - the fish lacked flavor and meager vegetables and sauces also were very bland. Recommend this being checked by chefs. Service was very attentive at first, then as it got busier, it was hard to find him. Ambiance was very nice as they had live music and a singer, which made it lively without being overly loud. Firstly, A big shout out to the General Manager: Michele Di Ruoccio - we were treated like Royalty! He sat us at a corner private booth table where we watched the live activity of the evening. My favorite place I dined at while visiting San Francisco. The service and food were top notch. They start off with complimentary bread and butter. The antipasti's were delicious. The oysters had a very fresh taste to them and the prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupes had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. But my personal favorite was the carpaccio, it was seasoned very well and was complemented perfectly with the nicely toasted and not too crunchy slices of bread. For the main course I ordered the gnocchi pesto. I would definitely recommend this as the pesto was very nice and you could tell it wasn't a canned pesto. I liked how all of their pastas are handmade in house and their distinctive gnocchi shape gave it a very nice texture to it. For dessert we got red wine poached pears, which were one of the best I've ever had. The red wine taste was not too overpowering and the same could be said about the cinnamon, they had the perfect balance with the pear and ice cream to create a delicious dessert to end your meal. Service was also phenomenal, despite them having a very large party downstairs alongside filled out tables, our server was constantly checking in and even having chats with us! At the end one of the servers even offered to take a nice picture of us. Overall, I would absolutely recommend north beach restaurant to anyone looking for a nice Italian dinner or a perfect date night spot. Last night, I brought my coworkers to North Beach Restaurant for our team holiday dinner, and we had such a wonderful experience. The host, hostess, and our server, Aldo, were exceptional. The entire staff was incredibly accommodating and attentive throughout the evening. The restaurant has a charming blend of traditional and modern--bright, cozy, and intimate all at once. The appetizers and salads were absolutely delicious; the meatballs and arancini were my personal favorites! I had the tagliatelle bolognese, which was rich and flavorful without being too heavy. One of the first things I appreciated was their valet parking--an absolute lifesaver in an area where finding a spot can feel impossible. We started with the burrata, which was fresh and paired perfectly with juicy cherry tomatoes. My father-in-law really enjoyed the Prosciutto e Melone, though I skipped that one since I'm not a fan. I did love both the Pera & Gorgonzola salad and the Watermelon Salad, which were refreshing and balanced. The star of the night, though, was the Manzo al Chianti. The braised beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and full of rich flavor, complemented beautifully by the creamy polenta. Honestly, it was one of the best dishes I've had in a long time and an absolute must-try! I also sampled the Tagliatelle Bolognese, which was tasty but a little too heavy for me (and my mother-in-law felt the same). Came here for a small party of 8 people in their downstairs private room. Service was very attentive and wonderful. The upstairs main eating area and bar area was very bustling (probably because a big 49ers game was happening.) They accommodated us well and gave us a tv so we could watch the game. For appetizers, we shared a variety of salads including the Caesar and the pear and cheese one, fritto misto, burrata, oysters, crab cakes, and I'm sure I'm blanking on more. The burrata and oysters were standouts for me, as were the crab cakes. I thought the Caesar had too much cheese but of course, that made it very good haha. For dinner, I had the pappardelle. There was too much meat on it but portion was large and flavorful. Wine flowed and I had a NA spritzer. It was refreshing. For dessert, we shared tiramisu and creme brûlée. Public television can be a great reminder. In the Bay Area, especially when it comes to food. A popular public television program, celebrating its 20th anniversary and featuring this restaurant on its opening episode, brought me here. A familiar local celebrity chose this as his pick of the many SF restaurants as his spot. Coming on a early afternoon in November after completing some errands, I waited at the host stand when a young lady offered me a choice of tables in the main dining room. I picked one in the middle area aside from the walkway to another dining room and was quickly given a menu. A short time later, my waiter came and took my drink order while I asked about some of the menu items. I enjoyed this (you always have me when mushroom is an ingredient) as the rigatoni was al dente while the white wine sauce was lightly creamy and didn't overwhelm the other ingredients. The salad was very filling and I held back a little by only having one slice of bread. I brought more than half of the pasta and the remaining bread home for a future dinner. The dining room only had one other table of customers (2) when I arrived as a few more parties came in as I was finishing my meal. Big thanks to John W. who waited on me and packed my unfinished food. I look forward to returning and trying other menu items, perhaps the lasagna or the Bolognese next time. I have lived in North Beach for 4 years and tragically hadn't been to this restaurant until I went last week. Everything about this place was amazing! The ambiance is very old school Italian - elegant & classy with white table cloths and live music. While we were there, there was a man singing Frank Sinatra, and it really elevated the experience - we loved it! I came with a large group so we tried a lot of the menu - the standouts were the Osso Buco and wine selection. There is a lot of good Italian food in North Beach, but this place really has an authentic old school feel that is hard to find. We loved! read more

The rigatoni was cooked just right and filled really well, the gnocchi was super tasty, and the beef shank was so tender it just melted in your mouth. For dessert, I got the tiramisu. We stumbled upon this place by chance and were extremely happy with the experience. We ordered the Caesar salad, which was fresh crisp and delicious. One of us had the homemade pasta with vodka sauce and another person enjoyed the salmon both were cooked perfectly and super delicious. Definitely didn't leave room for dessert, but their martinis are delightful, ice cold and a perfect pairing. The service and staff were great and super friendly. I have been going to NBR since the 70's. It has closed a few times and reopened under new management/ownership Since Lorenzo and Bruno were the Orginal operators. I had dinner last night with a friend there and it was possibly the worst Italian food in North Beach. I had the tortellini with cream an old standard I used to order here. It was really bland, No prosciutto or peas has it used to have just plain cream and really bland. My buddy had the bolognese and he stopped after a few bites he thought it was disgusting. I will say the glass of wine selection was very good. We had a glass of the borolo and one barberesco both excellent. After a few bites we stopped paid our bill of $150 for two pastas and two glasses of wine and went down the street to our favorite Italian resturant. The service was ok, bit of an attitude. On top of that, they removed the tables and installed very uncomfortable seating where you end up sitting sideways relative to the other person at the table. The noise level from people talking made it impossible to communicate, and the wall decor is different. Everything has changed--even the taste of the "Pasta de la Casa"! We've been customers for over 40 years--first at Pasta Pasta, and when that place closed, we came to NBR because they served the same "Pasta de la Casa" dish (currently priced at $29). It's not bad but it's also not so good that I want to go back like we used to feel. However, the service is phenomenal and I have so much respect for them. They're always friendly, quick to serve, and if the kitchen is backed up they're transparent and let us know that the food might be coming out a bit late. We got lucky enough to be there on one of those nights and hear some beautiful music. It was Frank Sinatra night. I love when a restaurants has live singers, it totally elevates the experience. Two in our party were especially picky eaters but were both very happy with their meals. I had the lasagna- it was so good that days later I am thinking of it. We ended with dessert and were very glad we did. Dinner and dessert portions are very generous. I understand that this is Fleet Week and therefore hotels are jacking up prices for 3 Star and below for $1500 a night!!! Really?? So after making a reservation over a month ago specifically for North Beach Restaurant to see the Italian Heritage parade and have lunch for 4, I called to confirm this morning and they confirmed reservation BUT no outdoor seating and very busy so pre-fixed menu take it or leave it. WHAT??! So I suppose I will call and reserve a year ahead?? They said their "regular" customers booked months ago. Appetizers were hit-or-miss: the prosciutto with melon was delicious, but the beef carpaccio had zero flavor, no seasoning, no balsamic, nothing. When I asked if the frutti di mare could be made with a white wine sauce or even have the red sauce on the side, she gave me attitude and a rude comment instead of just asking the chef. It was so off-putting my fiancé skipped ordering the dish altogether For mains, I had the pasta Della casa (cooked al dente with a decent sauce, but the "veal" tasted more like ground beef), while my fiancé had the branzino. My grandmother's osso buco was the highlight of the meal, truly excellent. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the busboys and food runners were fantastic. But our server's behavior overshadowed everything. As someone with 13+ years in food service, I've never encountered such dismissive, abrasive service.
