Brewery # 265 We came in here right when they opened at 11am on a Sunday for lunch and a few beers before our kayaking trip. I was surprised to see they had a brunch menu instead. I immediately ordered the corn beef hash that came with 2 sunny side up eggs and sourdough toast. It was all delicious. I also ordered a flight of beers that were all solid. While they didn't have a hazy IPA (my favorite style) they did have a good selection. The Nightfall Imperial Stout was my favorite followed by the Manistee IPA (American IPA). The Hefeweizen and Lumber Baron Wheat beer were both solid. The place itself is very nice and the bartender was really friendly. The place wasn't very busy with only 2-3 other tables full when we left. They also make their own spirits for purchase. read more

We weren't expecting a brunch at a little after noon on a Sunday. We had looked at the apps on the menu prior to arriving so we were a bit disappointed. We inquired if brunch was the only menu and she said yes. Just ordered cokes and our meals. And waited ... and waited ... and waited. Kitchen was so SO slow. Our server came to refill our beverages once while waiting. It was not busy by any stretch of the imagination. The food was very good. I had the grilled cheese and was pleased with the level of spice and the fact it was shredded chicken and not a breast. The soup was as expected. My hubby found the beer cheese soup flour-y but my daughter and I thought it was good. Reuben was excellent according to my daughter. The temperature in the dining room was rather chilly for a day that was only in the high sixties outside. I would go back to try the apps and hope the service is better. read more

Super disappointed, busy fall color Saturday (and Tigers were playing) but we stopped to try this new place. Looks amazing on the outside & inside but we stood there for more than 10 Min with 6 other pp (4 groups) without even being acknowledged. Bartender said we could sit till we were seated and they were soft staffed. I come from the hospitality industry - at least greet the people at the door & tell them it's going to be awhile and get them seated. Bad choices ... not sure if we'll be back. read more

I'm in Michigan and stopping in for brewery visit #262. I've never been to Manistee before and enjoyed the little downtown area. North Channel Brewing is a very well-appointed spot. Nice decor, lots of tables and plenty of bar space. I bypassed the "Please wait to be seated" sign and grabbed a bar seat. For a flight of four I chose the Mexican lager, Oktoberfest, the Sawmill stout, and the farmhouse cider. I don't usually go with a cider but I saw some really good comments about it on Yelp so I decided to step outside my comfort zone a little. The Mexican lager was good with a hint of a corn flavor to it. The Oktoberfest was a good example of a festbier. SWPFTD would enjoy this one for sure. The Sawmill stout was quite good. Not overpowering but very flavorful with toasty chocolate flavors throughout. Last up was the farmhouse cider. Yeah, I didn't really enjoy the cider. Don't let that deter you as I'm really not a cider fan but ordered it just after seeing some rave reviews. I've only had one cider I REALLY loved, which was a huckleberry cider at Edge Brewing in Boise. This one was certainly not bad just not quite my cup of...cider. Since I hadn't eaten all day except a snack on the plane, I ordered up some blackened walleye tacos. Let me tell you, those puppies were really good! NCB was a good stop. Food options and the quality has improved greatly over the past few years. They brew a wide selection of beers with numerous styles, ABV and IBU. Service during winter of 2022 has been stellar- they actually do better with fewer staff than when they had lots of younger less capable waitstaff. Full liquor license so you have wine / cocktail choices if you're not a beer-drinker. They sell quite a bit of merchandise as well as their own brews for takeout. Large city parking lot across the street with (slow) EV chargers so there's never a problem with that. Too bad there's little else on Washington Street north of River Street to explore but hopefully that changes over time. This is now quite a viable option for a good time, good food, and drinks near downtown Manistee. Trivia night on Monday night is new and hopefully becomes a local tradition. read more

This place should be so cool, but after going here about a dozen times (hoping, each time, that it's better than the last), I think we've finally given up. The atmosphere is great. The rooms are cool looking, with great decoration, and an old industrial style interior. The live music in the summer is an awesome addition. Parking is easy with the lot across the street. Everything about the building and location is perfect. But you go to a restaurant / brewery for the food and drinks. Both fall short...by alot! Super generic tasting food (I've ordered a wide variety from the menu over the years) which ranges from 'just ok' to downright bad. In addition, as much as I hate to say it, their beer is just not good by any definition (we've tried lots of them!) There's a number of places in town that serve better food and the one other brewery in town has significantly better beer. So, we've given up on this place even though it's literally a 5 minute walk from our front door. read more

Not very busy, Monday dinner. I'm not a beer drinker, and they only have a handful of mixed drinks on their menu. No mango for mango margarita, so I asked what was in the Channel 47, server didn't know and kinda huffed when I asked her to find out. My drink arrived, my husband's beer did not. Onion ring tower was good but to have them swimming in honey wasn't needed. Took forever for our food order to be taken and a while to arrive. One of the kids knocked my drink over and the floor was soaked. Several servers walked right by it, we finally told the bartender, who cleaned it up. Had to request napkins several times. Fish and chips were good, no complaints about that. But the service was dismal and disappointing. We will check out another place next time. read more

They close sort of early so we hit them up first on our night out from the kids. Tried samples of the gose (we called it goose, one oh!) it was great, very sour The hard cider came with flavor additives and I went went the passion fruit/orange/guava (I'm gluten free so It's really all I could drink) but WOW! DELICIOUS! Best seltzer I've had HANDS DOWN!! Mexican lager was recommended by the server - my best friend isn't a huge beer drinker and she liked it a lot. Nailed the Mexican beer flavor, very compatible to a corona but with MORE flavor. Orange creamsicle was good. Worth more than trying. Highly recommend the server Ty. My friends and I stopped in to North Channel Brewing after checking out the farmer's market across the street while camping nearby last fall. We were looking for some snacks and drinks and thought this place looked cool. We were seated right away and our server was great. We ordered the nachos and fried pickles after we found out that they were out of the pretzel we had wanted. The nachos were just ok - they had lots of toppings, including a blanket of nacho cheese sauce, but they were lacking flavor. The fried pickles were a little soggy but a huge portion. I'm not a huge beer drinker, but those in our group who ordered beer liked what they had - the Mexican lager was a hit. I ordered a cider that was tasty - they offer a bunch of different flavorings that you can get added to your cider, which was kind of weird to me but I enjoyed it. You can also get them added to a hard seltzer which I would try next time. Overall, North Channel Brewing was a fun place to hang out for a few drinks. North Channel Brewing Company in Manistee, Michigan was a lunch stop for us down the Michigan coast. Service was a little slow but friendly. Food was delicious. Hubby had the Santa Fe Wrap and I had the Great Lake Walleye Tacos. The Walleye is normally blackened, but since I am not a blackened fish lover, the chef prepared them with a light batter instead. Beer is on tap, and craft beers from the area. Downside for the visit was the parking and road situation. Parking is across the street. The Route 31 bridge over the Manistee River was closed for repairs, so the very busy traffic was rerouted in front of the restaurant, making it very difficult to cross. read more

Have been 5 times in the last few months. Food has improved this year over the past couple years and a good drink selection so everyone can find something. Good atmosphere and live music on Thursday evenings and specials on the slow days. They have struggled with labor shortages so there have been some delays during the day but they seem to have better coverage in the evening. Food comes out quick once they take your order and they have been pleasant so hoping they can get their staffing issues resolved. read more

The building is quite large and i enjoyed walking around looking at all of the pictures. I just love when a place has a history. It makes it so much more interesting. On my way out of town, I decided to try this brewery. It was a little before noon and super slow. I bellied up at the bar to enjoy one of their beers and some lunch. I tried the Manistee IPA, which was a little hoppier than I would like, so I didn't finish it completely. I ordered the half Rueben that came with fries for $7-what a deal! The Sammy was delish as were the fries-crispy and fresh. For being at the bar and slow, I was surprised that I wasn't greeted right away even though there were several servers/bar tenders around the bar area. We stopped here for dinner the night before hitting the river to give the salmon some fishing tackle and spawn. We've been here before, and liked it last time. I got a burger and some soup as the side. The burger was huge, and so totally tasty. The soup was also really good and an excellent choice. The space is really cool, with some arcade machines and pinball in the back. Service was really good, even considering she was dealing with a few big parties and only two other servers we saw. I've also had the BBQ here, and it's very tasty. Prices are also really reasonable - there are certainly more expensive places in town. Since some of our other usual Manistee places are gone, this will now be in our regular rotation. read more

Terrific beer. Tried the Irish red and was blown away by how smooth it tasted. Just the right amount of flavorful bitterness. My wife loved the gin. She got it straight and said it was amongst the best she's ever had. This would be 5-stars but for the food. The food was perfectly fine. We are all about the dog friendly places- this is a dog friendly place BUT your dog must stay on the busy road side of the fence while you are inside the fence. If a person with a dog starts a fight with your dog or in our case 2 puppies - you have to run around a wrought iron fence. I stayed outside the fence the whole time standing while I had my beer. Probably not ok with the brewery but neither is risking my puppies lives. There was 1 beer I liked and 1 that I kinda liked. Mostly IPAs. read more
