A friend of mine was showing her art here and I came for the reception. It is back in the original location from the last time I was here. It's a cute little spot. They have a lot of different art in various mediums. There were several pieces I was drawn to and most are for sale. I wish I had more wall space. They had a table with small bites and red or white wine. They announced the winners and handed out prizes. It was a nice event. Congratulations to the winners. read more

Today was my first visit to the North Coastal Art Gallery and I was very impressed. Not only is it a free gallery, many of the pieces are for sale and fairly priced -- especially for their level of skill. When I walked into the space, the man working greeted me quickly and said I could fill out a small paper choosing my favorite piece, and they do a 'best in show' every month, based on the votes. That painting will be featured and the artist gets a ribbon too. It made the experience interactive, which I really enjoyed. Can't wait to see who wins! read more

Accessibility: getting into the store is all flat ground. The door to enter is a single pull door but it was propped open. Inside, it is very spacious with plenty of room to make turns. No restrooms inside that I saw...the only restrooms I know of here are the ones upstairs on the second level (there is an elevator access across the hall from this storefront) but a number code is needed to access the restrooms. Experience: as soon as you come inside there is a woman (maybe other times it might be someone else) sitting inside who welcomed my partner and I. The woman was super nice, answered all our questions and spoke with us for a bit about art. The art was absolutely beautiful and reasonably priced for a gallery! I have been inside many galleries and seriously this art is more affordable but still high quality. There were different mediums of art here such as acrylic paints, oil paint, woodwork, metal work, mixed media, photography and more. There were large pieces of art, medium sizes, and extremely small! Small gallery with a number of local artists. Their hours were unusual so check their schedule before you go. They had some building issues that had just occurred and they had one of their walls covered with plastic. They have monthly shows using various themes. They had a mix of water-media, oil, acrylic and photography. They are staffed by volunteers. It is worth the time if you are looking for some less expensive artwork. I would definitely take time to visit if in the area. read more

This league is over 50 years old and is just a wonderful asset to the community. Any league that supports art is up my alley. The league began to promote art education and cultural appreciation of fine art in the communities of Carlsbad and neighboring Oceanside. It features monthly shows of their members work. Membership is a small fee and the artist must work 1/2 day a month in the gallery. They also sponser the wonderful Art on the Ocean event where the artisits display their works on the lawns of nearby Carlsbad Inn so that visitors can view and purchase the works. This place is a real let down. The people that work there are very rude. Try to buy some art there to support local but after dealing with the sales person I will not be doing that ever. I also feel art was way overpriced for what they're trying to sell. It had a weird vibe in there as well. There's better places for art. read more

I purchased several pieces of art that were really well done. I have one in my bedroom one of my office and one in my living room and they're all fantastic. The pieces light up the room and I get compliments on them every time anybody shows up in visits. I would recommend stopping in and taking a look see making sure that they have the right art for you. I love this gallery. Every piece of art is done by area artists, and since this is artist supported, the prices are terrific. The gallery is run by artists, and it is fun to talk to the person at the front, and ask them which piece is theirs. Fun time. Every month has new work. You love Art! Visit Carlsbad Oceanside Art League (COAL)! It's a great way to begin original art collection. Representing member artists, some members are famous and some not so famous artists. The art displayed are not just pleasing to the senses, but that tend to be investment worthy as well. COAL established in 1951 and located in the beautiful Carlsbad at the heart of the village, by the beach. Monthly fine art show features huge varieties of local artists works. Oil, watercolor, acrylic, photography and sculpture. The gallery also sells Art Cards. There is something for everyone. Hosts are member artists who are engaging, dedicated and friendly. Every Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting) their member artists display artwork for sale at Art on the Green, on the lawn in front of the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort. She explained that this is a non-profit gallery that doesn't charge gallery fees, but requires the artists to sit in the gallery selling items. I have bought several pieces here over the last several months. New shows appear very month or so with different themes. The prices are reasonable with no sales tax! I collect landscapes and I usually see something I want at this gallery. Support your local artists and patronize this great community treasure. The volunteer staff are always helpful and informative. They give out blue ribbon awards for the artists, go in early when the show is first put up and buy an award winning art piece!
