Inside of bunkhouse - no bathrooms in this one

Run to North Country Rivers and do EVERYTHING!!! We stayed in the cabins here (bunkhouse and middle sized), took and rafting trip, and moose safari. While we missed out on moose due a rainstorm that rolled in, the scenery was still worth the price of the tour. Our tour Declan was funny and personable, as well as able to answer our questions. The raft was EPIC! Steve, our guide was skilled and charismatic. He was even able to haul my butt into the raft after the opportunity to swim in the pristine waters of the Kennebec. My 11 year old daughter and 70 year old aunt were equally happy with our excursion. We were able to see multiple bird species along the river banks. Food at the lodge was surprisingly delicious - as was the bar. The waitstaff and owner were kind and hospitable on all counts. This is a business that clearly cares about staff and guests alike. We can't wait to come back soon!

We did the ultimate package--heavy water release (8,000 cfs) and 2 passes of the greatest rapid before floating the rest of the course to pull out. The weather was perfect at 70F. The water at 60F. Sunny skies made the emerging Fall color incandescent. Our guide Chris, aka Wavetrain, was hilarious. The photos they take of your trip are pricey, but amazing work. Do consider supporting the photographers by buying a photo or more. Lovely steak lunch at the end of the trip. Plenty of beers on tap from the bar to help you settle into the evening.

raft - notice footholds, one for each of 2 front riders and the rope across the center

Wow, what a trip! This was our 3rd white water rafting trip in 3 months. The 1st trip was amazing with a guide in the raft that knew how to maximize every rapid I-III for maximum splash. 2nd trip the guides were in kayaks so we were just paddling to save our lives - my arms were so sore the next day! And this 3rd time was the perfect culmination! We had a guide in the raft and rafted down the rapid I-IV which was even more exhilarating. We paid a little extra to have the raft to ourselves because sharing a raft with strangers can go either way especially when you have kids. We arrived at 8:30am to very overcast, slightly chilled weather which was contrary to the weather forecast for partial cloudy weather. The staff gave us the instructions, geared us up and put us on the bus. It was a long 45 minute drive but the staff would yell out some fun facts about what we were passing on the road. We got to the launch point at the Forks and were assigned our rafting guides Note you do have to carry the very heavy raft down on a rail with steps to the river with the help of your guide(s - some places have you carry the raft, some don't depending on the launch point. At first, our guide Dana seemed quiet, but then he warmed right up, chatting away and having a ton of fun! He was a very experienced, safe and knowledgeable rafting guide. Additionally, he'd tell us the name of every rapids as we went into them and during slower points, would point out things like ripples in the water and indicate that the technical rafting term like eddy line. It was both memorable and educational. And most importantly, Dana was super kid friendly! He had the kids and us laughing the whole way down. In terms of the Kennebec River, it started out in a canyon and the first of the rapids came on quickly. I really appreciated that these rafts had a special foot hold for each person in the front of the raft and a rope on each of the center bars of the raft (neither of our 2 previous rafting trips had these); this was especially reassuring when we hit those class III and class IV rapids! Another fun and unique feature of this trip is at a few very specific points the guides ask if you want to float down in the (mild) rapids - my kids looked like little otters floating on their backs with their feet popping out of the water! After the rafting, we were taken back for a tasty (late) lunch: your choice of steak, chicken or fish - we ordered one of each and the fish was the best! When returning the gear, it was a little odd that they had us dunk our life vests and wet suit rentals in a barrel of soapy water then rinse in water - most places have separate staff that does this but it wasn't a big deal and took a minute to do. The rafting photos taken by a 3rd party photographer were some of the best adventure photos because they were taken at 3 different points in the trip - we bought them all (14) but may have been the only ones to do so because it was just our family in the raft and the photo package of all photos was a bit costly to buy (NOTE: the full package would probably sell better if you lowered the price by 25%-50%). We plan to return on our next trip to Maine and we will be asking for Dana again!

What an absolute RUSH!! We brought our crew of daycare teachers for a staff retreat. Only one of us had been rafting before. We all had a blast!! It's the ultimate adrenaline rush and the perfect teambuilding experience for professionals. Our trip was on a turbine test day, with a flow rate of 8600 cubic feet per second!! Our guide, Jim Murton was awesome, experienced, professional and knowledgeable. When the river was calm, we were getting a full blown historical and ecological tour, and when the rapids heated up, Jim commanded the raft through it with 40 years of experience behind him. I can see this being an annual trip for us, for sure. Thanks Jim and North Country Rivers!!

A great day on the river with customers. A rafting trip is a great way to bond with others in your group.

I have been rafting with North Country for almost 20 years with my family, church groups and every year I go with customers once or twice. My experience is always the exact same: every guide is professional, safety conscious and very entertaining as the rafting trip progresses. You'll particularly enjoy Jim's guides all work in Patrick's Pub and provide so much insight into your rafting trip as they serve the meals and drinks at Patrick's. The food is great pub food and we've never had a bad meal there. The campground has open spaces for groups, or a little more quiet hidden spots for camping and the cabins are always clean. The atmosphere is wonderful as guests are treated so well. I highly recommend staying at the site

So we are just stopping in at the pub. This place is cool. It is a whitewater rafting camp with a bar. There are great cabins and a store in the pub. The food all looked good but we were onion ringing it with an adult beverage soooo that's all I can review. Service was great.drinks were good.

My son and I had an amazing time camping and rafting here. The campground was clean. Rafting was amazing. Our guide was great, I never felt unsafe on the river. They are very organized all the employees were friendly. The food at the restaurant was delicious. I can't wait until next years trip. This will definitely be a mother son trip every year.

Bill (our incredibly skilled and confidence building river guide) and Clayton (our cook/meteorologist/sherpa/personal 'MacGyver') took our family of self proclaimed 'condo campers' out of our comfort zone and we had a blast! Although we know they do this river stuff every week, it felt like we were their only ones in such a genuine way. It was awesome. They were so easy and friendly and knowledgeable and skilled and calm even in the most serious times. Normally I am nervous with 'dangerous' stuff (I struggle with the kiddie coaster at the amusement park...I'm pitiful) but had every confidence in Bill on the big water day...especially after our family spent the whole day before with him. In addition, EVERY single person we encountered with Three Rivers was patient, friendly, cool (like gnarly cool), and joyful in every accommodation they made for us. Patty greeted and helped us out when we checked in on day one. When we saw her two days later and got to spend part of the day with her on the river it was like meeting up with an old friend she's so cheerful! Our only regret for the whole trip was I sadly did not think to get a real picture of our family together with Bill and Clayton at dinner (an awesome steak dinner with a pineapple upside down cake cooked over a campfire!)...we loved these guys. With a genuine heart, thanks so much to Bill, Clayton and everyone at Three Rivers for allowing our family this extraordinary experience! We can't wait to get back to Maine and the big water.

We spend 2 nights in a cabin on the Moxie camp site - it had 4 full size beds (we only needed one) but it would be great for a larger group of people. It had a night sitting area with a kitchen table if you wanted to cook over the camp fire (because we were on vacation....I did not want to cook!!) So we bought the meal plan. It seems that most people buy the breakfast, lunch is on the river during the rafting trips and dinner seems to be skipped by most - but it is pretty solid and worth it!! The lunch was steak or chicken, pasta salad and the best baked beans ever!!! if you are looking for a veggie option - they make their own veggie burgers (they looked great and people loved them). The only thing I could ask for would have been dessert (but i have a sweet tooth!! - taller half could have cared less) The staff was outstanding - felt like family. Phil checked us in -(he is the do it all man...from driving the moose tour, the buses and fixing anything you need man) he was very friendly and helpful. We bought firewood (5 dollars for a good size bundle) from him - he set up our fire pit so all we had to do was light it! The camp has 4 bathrooms and 2 showers - they were clean and lots of light (there are no bathrooms in the cabins) no fear walking to them after the sunset. The first day we did a half of day white water rafting with Angela (she was wonderful!!) and Funyaked the 2nd half of the river. The second day we rafted the entire river with Randy (he was wonderful!!!) We were able to swim in the river, paddle our hearts out on class 4 rapids and enjoy a few lazy miles at the end of the river. We even saw a bald eagle along the river!!! The guides know what they are doing and really do their best to make sure you and the boat have the best time ever. We look forward to going back to Moxie in the future! The staff was kind and patient even though I'm sure it was annoying to have us show up in the midst of the safety lecture! Having never been rafting before I was quite nervous, but after just a few minutes getting with Eric, and observing him in the boat, I knew I was in the best hands possible. What I feel is important to know is that, the people you choose to spend the day rafting with-in your boat-should be people you feel comfortable with. There was a single man that joined our group, and because of his very potent body odor, inability to allow the guide to speak at times, and his obtrusive wooden oar, my experience felt slighted at times. This man meant no harm and is just going about his life, I just wish I could have slapped some deodorant on him Anywho-Eric did a fantastic job doing what he does so well...GUIDING...he read his group, got to know our strengths, and then allowed us to have a very memorable and cherished experience!! Our paintball guide was Alex and he was perfect for my group of competitive one-uppers. He was patient, kind, and had a funny, commanding personality. There were two locations to play on and they also had cold water for us and some bug spray to top off with. We enjoyed the ride out there with Chuck, the patriarch/owner. Restaurant food was great! No complaints from the kids-- burgers, pizza, nuggets, salad and specials. Next day was rafting. the head guide exuded confidence and therefore calmed us all. He had about 30 years experience. We had a party of 12 staying at the Airbnb lodging from Friday to Sunday and participated in the rafting on Saturday. Weather is hard to plan for but in August, it felt like the chances of warm/hot weather would be decent. Unlucky for us, it was quite cloudy and chilly-hovering 60's. Rafting Experience 5/5 - Everybody had a great time!! Strapped on helmet and lifejackets to start the day and then took a bus up the river. Each boat had a 'guide' and our guide (Bryan/"Viking") was awesome. He told us great stories and facts throughout the ride and helped carefully steer us through some intense rapids. The last.. maybe half hour.. of the rafting was fairly quiet and not intense at all. This would've been fine if it was hot and sunny but the weather was super cloudy, chilly, and windy. Not ideal when you're drenched. Airbnb Lodging 3/5 - Plenty of clean beds that could fit a large party. They also had a large dining room table and an open kitchen. We were not able to get Wi-Fi unfortunately and the tv didn't connect to anything. Not a fan of the carpet flooring in one of the two bathrooms. Food 5/5 - They served lunch right after the rafting experience and the food was great!! We had the option of beef, chicken, and vegetarian. Came with rice pilaf, coleslaw, bread roll, and a slice of cake. Everything was yummy, some folks were able to get seconds as any leftovers were going to be tossed. Service 5/5 - Staff were all super friendly and happy to help. Knowing we're not from the area, they tried to offer us solutions to any problems we ran into. Great group of folks to work with. Location.. 1/5 - We had a huge group (3 cars) going up from Boston after work on a Friday (about 4.5-5hr drive) so we all got to the area very late at night. The drive wasn't that bad but finding the Airbnb Lodging was very difficult. Since it was after work hours, late at night, nobody picked up when we tried calling for assistance. There are just not enough guidance around the area to show customers where to park or how to find their lodging. We had to circle the site a few times before we realized where the building was. On our second night, we encountered a couple that were lost and had trouble looking for their lodging area.
