My friend and I tried the evening moose tour in which you are driven to a beautiful 'pond' as they call it and get into 3 person canoes (two paddling, one in the middle) hoping to see moose. Their venue is closer to Bangor than some of the other outfitters that do this, however, the ride to get to the pond is at least an hour. You ride in a van and some of the roads are bumpy. The guide narrates a little, but I feel he could have done more. The home base is nice and they sell souvenirs, coffee, and snacks. They have a bathroom building with changing areas. There was lots of water on the ground there, so I wonder why it wasn't moped. Once you get into the van, there is no bathroom area (unless there is a porta potty that I missed. The scenery by the water was very beautiful and peaceful and even though no moose were spotted, it was still a very nice experience. The price was fair and there was always someone that answered the phone when we called to ask questions. Overall a great experience. read more

The van was full and the people in the last two rows were bounced around uncomfortably and were unable to see anything for four hours. The two exceptions were when the van stopped and we all got out. The only good seat was in the front passenger spot. At one point two Jeeps were behind our tour van for a long time, the guide made a comment about how they were being impatient, needed to respect the tour bus, and didn't let them pass us by pulling over. She kept them behind us for quite about 1/2 hour. When we finally spotted a moose 2.5 hours in and she pulled over, the two vehicles revved their engines and sped past, scaring the one moose we saw the entire time back into the woods. So we saw a moose running into the woods. The people at the back of the van saw it's butt... As we headed back to the tour lodge, another moose crossed the road in front of us, it took about 4 strides across the street... so, did we see moose? Technically, yes... was it what we signed up for and paid $74, and a four hour ride for? No! So their 89% moose spotting rate includes this... if you're thinking you want to see moose in water, munching away and you have an almost 90% chance that's not really an accurate take on this. Also, our tour guide Natalie was very nice, however she did not know much more than the average Joe- me... she wasn't particularly engaging and didn't have information that didn't pop up on any Google search, as a matter of fact, she didn't necessarily know info that did pop up on a google search... she did give us tasty brownies and water. Went out with a group of 8 people total, our family of 4 in addition to 4 others. We were driven about an hour in a van to arrive at the moose spot. Our guide Zack did a great job of chatting and sharing nature facts while we rode. Worth noting is that the second half hour of the ride is pretty bumpy on a dirt road. Also, if you go during black fly season you might want to consider a face net. They weren't too bad on the pond, but they tend to fly directly towards your eyes and nose, and the net keeps them off. Once we got to the water we suited up with life jackets and Zack helped us into the canoes. We paddled for around an hour and ended up seeing 3 different moose on the water plus another 2 on the ride home! We were able to float for around 30 minutes in the canoe, just observing the moose eating. It was a bit of a trek to get here from Bar Harbor but totally worth it! read more

Months ago, my husband and I booked a canoe moose tour with Northeast Whitewater departing at 6am. At 5:40pm the evening before, we got a call: the outfitter said that not enough people had signed up for the tour, and gave us the option to a) pay an additional $130 to "get to the four-person minimum" and keep our 6am canoe tour; b) join a 5pm van tour instead of our 6am canoe tour; or c) get a refund. I was frustrated that this was communicated to us so last-minute for a tour we scheduled months in advance. I think the company should have honored its commitment to offer us the 6am canoe tour without trying to extract more money from us. Or if they had given us more than 12 hours notice, we might have been able to make alternate arrangements with a different moose tour company. read more

First, I would like to talk about our guide Elise. She was wonderful, full of knowledge and easy to share any information about moose, and other animals in the area along with the history of the area we were traveling in. She was really grateful for the opportunity to show us around and take us to incredibly beautiful places to both see moose and some beautiful parts of Maine. Chastity, whom I assume was the manager of the place and who booked our private tour was pleasant and open to all questions we had before we left in the van. However, the actual trip, to put it mildly, was a complete letdown. We spent most of the four hours in a van traveling around, only stopping two or three times for a short period of time to take in the sights and look for moose. On this private tour, we only saw one female moose, and this was in about the third hour of this trip and one eagle flying above. I saw one other bird and no other animals for the entire trip. The moose was close enough to us that our guide wisely told us to stay in the van for our safety to view the moose. The moose stayed near us for a while. However, the vans' windows only opened up in the front of the van, so we had to maneuver into the front seat, taking turns to take photos of this one moose. I am a photographer, so not only was this uncomfortable, but it made it difficult to get many shots of this magnificent creature. We were staying in Portland, so it took us two and a half hours each way to get to and from this place. I could only imagine the additional incredible disappointment we would have felt if we flew in from any other area, acquired the suggested insurance, and booked a hotel just to get a photo of one female moose and one eagle! The cost alone for the private tour for up to two people was $389.00. Needless to say, this was not worth the price. Yes, these are wild animals we are looking for, so spotting them is unpredictable, but the company should make it clear that you might not see any or very few animal sightings. The advertising for this trip made it seem to me that we would get much more for almost $400 cost. Perhaps their white-water rafting is their main business. This "moose" sighting was a total rip-off. I do want to reemphasize that the guide and the people I spoke to were wonderful, but as a moose sighting trip - no way. It was a complete waste of time at an expensive rate. read more

Trip was fun. Guides were great. They should tell you that you are going have to drag your raft down multiple flights of stairs to get to the water. Would be especially good information for us older folks. Also they don't tell you upfront that it is a 45 minute ride to the put in and another back to your vehicle. read more

We didn't see any moose, tho I certainly can't blame Nate for that. The conversation was fun and educational, and the scenery was gorgeous. I am wondering how many moose are really out there. Are their numbers dwindling? Maybe. My only complaint was that it was very difficult (esp for an older person, and I'm sure there's people lots older than me) to negotiate the large rocks when embarking and disembarking the canoe. It's a real hazard. I'd recommend building a staircase or a ramp down to the water. I don't think it would be difficult to remedy the situation. read more

We stayed in a yurt and did the early morning moose canoe safari. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the yurt was comfortable even with all the rain. The moose safari, though, was disappointing. I wish I'd read reviews here first. It is sold as a 4 hour event, but three of those hours are in a van. We only spent 45 min or so on the water, and the guide didn't seem to try very hard to find any moose. We did a small loop on the pond, less than a mile of canoeing, and just kinda peering around. He was otherwise knowledgeable and friendly. We made the best of it, but the safari was not worth the price. read more

My friends and I very much wanted to see a moose so we booked the 4 hour tour by van. The good part was the guide was very knowledgeable. He tried really hard, but they just seemed to be hiding extra well during the time of our trip. The downside was that it was definitely more of a 3 1/4- 3 1/2 tour than 4 hours that we paid for. And apparently, when you grow up in Maine, you assume people like hunting. However, when more than half of your customers on the van are 50yrs+ women, maybe assume that your customers are more inclined to want to pet animals than kill them. He felt the need to tell us about trapping, killing and skinning beavers for pelts, all which I and my friends found extremely distressing. Maybe asking if your guide is able to read a room before you hand over your money, especially if there are animal lovers or children going on the tour, is probably a good thing to keep in mind. read more

First let me say our guide, David , was knowledgeable and great to spend time with. This rating is not a reflection on him. The equipment was fine and the scenery fantastic, so why the 2 star rating? Scarce time on the water. For $319 plus a tip we got exactly 70 minutes on the water and 160 minutes in a van. We certainly expected some travel time but not 2 1/2 times more van time than canoe time. read more

We did the overnight trip in Canada Falls and everything was organized to the last detail. Our guides went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having a good time. Our guide Bryce made the rafting experience seem so easy with his superior navigation skills. So Dissatisfied. Imagine driving 3 hours and anticipating a great experience and then it doesn't happen. To start with I booked the Moose Canoe 3 weeks prior and requested a specific guide. Turns out that guide does not work on the day of the week that I requested, but that was NOT mentioned when I made the booking. That was the first disappointment. Then we we piled into a van, that was so uncomfortable and smelled and the windows were dirty. We were in that van for AN HOUR AND A HALF, each way. It rained on the way out and a beautiful spectacular rainbow appeared. The guide did not ask if anyone wanted to talk pictures or even make an effort to find a place too pull over. We I asked if she could stop so pictures could be taken she pulled over but we could not open the doors (because we were locked in) and as I mentioned the windows were filthy. After the hour & a half drive we arrived at the canoe launch. We were asked to climb over slippery rocks carrying the canoes. It was dangerous. BTW, I was told I could not use my own PFD for liability reasons, that's bs. I was wondering to myself...this launch is a liability! We were told we would be on the pond for an hour & 15 min. The guide took us back after only 40 minutes. Back in the van for the hour and a half drive. Beautiful sunset but again the guide made no attempt to pull over (there were several places that would have been safe) so we missed that photo op as well. No moose were seen but we were offered brownies as a compensation, really!!?? No Moose. Although the trip was relaxing, we came to Maine to see Moose. We booked a canoe tour and a land tour two days apart. We went at the time of the year they recommended (early July). No moose. I know there were no guarantees, but I almost feel scammed as the timing of the trips was not during dawn or dusk. The guides got excited to see birds and white-tailed deer. I see those in my yard EVERY single day. I also get black bears and raccoons and red foxes here at home. Our entire trip to Maine was to see a moose. Is this a scam? read more

For those who don't know... I like moose. And the state of Maine. A lot. So much that I have a ridiculous amount of clothing items with moose on them. And although I'm writing this review in Maine as we speak, I'm already planning my return for (hopefully) next year! So you can only imagine my Kristen-Bell-and-sloths-like reaction when I was searching the interwebs one day and discovered the existence of moose safaris/tours. Given my love of moose, I knew it was something that I had to try, and since I convinced my parents to road trip to Maine for my US 2014 trip, I figured this was my chance to fulfill my dream! We did an early morning moose safari with 6 other people and Chris, our guide. We met at Northeast Guide's HQ, where we were able to buy a few things like waterproof shoes and ponchos before heading out into the remote Maine wilderness. At 6 AM sharp, we headed into the van and drove about an hour to the middle of nowhere. Along the way, Chris gave a lot of information about the Maine moose population. Our first stop was this pond that is a quite popular hangout for the elusive moose. We hopped into canoes and paddled around; however, after about 1.5 hours, we returned to the shore, with no moose sight. :( Afterwards, we drove around more of the remote back woods, trying our luck that way. We saw moose tracks, ducks, and bear droppings, but no moose in the flesh. Their website claims having a 96% success rate, so you can imagine the slight disappointment I felt with the tour being in the 4%. It also doesn't help that moose apparently outnumber people 3-to-1 in the Moosehead Lake area. Some say it was the rain/drizzle that made them hide, or that it was too early in the season. The company was wise to put a disclaimer that we aren't guaranteed any moose sightings! My only feedback is that I wish Chris could raise his voice a bit more so that everyone in the van can hear him. To his credit, he did say that if we wanted to hear him, we should sit closer up front, but it just seems a bit silly fighting over the first and second row of seats with strangers just so we could hear him. Regardless of why we didn't see moose this time around, I still appreciated canoeing in the peaceful pond, the silence of the remote Maine woods, Chris's moose stories (well, whatever I could hear of them from the back of the van) and the exciting possibility of seeing a moose in its natural habitat. We did the van moose tour and I regret every long 4 hour minute of it. First off - no moose which I get they can't control. But the bigger issues are in the whole process - you get jammed into a van (there were 11 of us in one van plus a guide) and the driver flies down dirt roads barely stopping. We wondered after - how did he even expect to find a moose at the speed he was going? And the van is so loud that we could barely hear anything he was saying to even learn a thing or two about Maine. We took a Moose Safari with Northeast Guide Service. The tour was great. Our guide was actually an experienced whitewater guide, so he had interesting stories related to rafting. The tour takes you down a dirt road built by the logging company to a pond in the middle of nowhere, where Northeast Guide Service and other Moose Safari companies have stashed canoes in the trees. Apparently Moose just love this secluded pond, and the Greenville Moose Safari companies were lucky enough to find it. On our tour there were three moose at the pond, including a large bull who was in the middle of the pond eating submerged plants from the bottom. It was really cool paddling to within 40 to 50 yards of him and sitting on the pond for about an hour taking in the wildlife. We also saw loons, deer, a mother duck and her ducklings, and a huge beaver dam. Northeast Guide Service definitely had the nicest canoe stashed in the forest, and based on a price comparison they were a bit cheaper than the other companies in town who will just take you to the exact same pond. I'd definitely recommend taking a Northeast Guide Service Moose Safari. read more

Reviews of BOTH whitewater rafting and moose tour: Right from the start (walking across the road from the Indian Hill Motel), the staff were friendly and helpful, and kitting up was very easy. The ride in Gary's bus seemed surprisingly short, considering it's an hour to the river. There isn't much waiting around, as the NGS team give comprehensive safety briefings, so you know exactly what to expect when you jump in the rafts. We rafted on the Kennebec river, which, although it doesn't have the biggest rapids that NGS offer, was exhilarating nonetheless. Most of the big rapids were dealt with before lunch, and afterwards we were able to swim alongside the raft, and generally enjoy the incredible scenery. Lunch was surprisingly good, consisting of chicken, steaks, pasta and rice, finished off with a plate of delectable brownies. All in all, this is an incredible experience, which I think everyone should try at least once. Northeast Whitewater is a perfect place to do that! *** After a five thirty wake up, we spent forty minutes in a van on bumpy, unpaved roads through Maine's endless forests. However, the next four hours were a welcome respite from the rush of an American road trip. Chris was an expert guide, quickly unchaining the canoes, and taking us out quietly onto the lake. Almost immediately, we saw a moose feeding in the shallows, and we were able to get to within ten metres, with the moose barely glancing up. From there, we saw another three moose, and various other examples of local wildlife. The mountains were beautifully lit up by the early morning sun, and the temperature was perfect. If you want to really relax, I haven't experienced many better ways than this moose tour. I would highly recommend it, but notice that you must be quiet: conversation should be kept to a minimum to see as much as possible. read more

I would like to first off, give five stars to the bus drivers for being able to navigate those logging roads. They must be more careful than I am, because Golden State Road took out one of my tires on my way to Baxter State Park! So thanks to them for making sure we got to and from both rivers safely! Continuing on, I stayed at the campground for three pleasant nights in a tent. The site was not difficult to walk to from my vehicle, and I definitely could tell it was new. I was surprised to hear that each campsite has a trashcan at it during check-in. While I was there however, I did not see any wildlife in the campground except for some birds. The bathrooms were clean for me, so I also had no issue there. The sink for washing dishes outside was fine as well. What definitely will make me come back is the wonderful service that I received from everyone there. Everyone was knowledgeable of the Greenville area, which was quite helpful. They definitely made sure that I had fun on both the Kennebec with Harrison as my guide and the Penobscot River with Jack as my guide. Everything was as advertised, and reasonably priced. While we did have fun, they did make sure to properly go over safety protocols on our way to the rivers in a clear and concise way, which is always reassuring to me. The river barbecue was delicious and filling. Five stars for the brownies as well. The photographs taken of me as well were great, I had plenty from throughout both days that were wonderful action shots. Check-ins each day were painless to do as well. Bottom line, if you want to raft the Kennebec or the Penobscot, this definitely is the place to book! read more

The guides were really friendly and definitely made the trip. The bus ride to and from the river kinda stunk but the guides made it as pleasant as possible. The rafting was fun, but the way the Kennebec river is set up leaves a little to be desired in the afternoon. It's no fault of Northeast Guide Service - they can't change Mother Nature. The first half of the river is very fun and Brian set us up perfectly for getting the most out of the white water. After lunch it's a scenic float down the rest of the river with vistas that look nearly fake. It's a great way to see Maine. read more

We met Jess the owner back in February at the Camping Show in Springfield, MA. She is great at explaining what they offer and helping you plan a trip. Communication leading up to the trip was fantastic. We booked a two day stay in the yurts June 26-28. The yurts are a super cool experience. Highly recommend trying one. They are very clean. Our only complaint was the bed killed both of our backs by Sunday we were both hurting. On Saturday Morning we did the early morning Moose Safari with Kate. Kate truly loves her job and was so excited to tell us about everything. She was very helpful with other things to do in town after the tour. We were very lucky to arrive to the pond to see 1 moose swimming. We hurried to get the canoes out and were able to paddle to watch him come to shore. While that was the only moose we saw, we really enjoyed going around the pond enjoying nature and seeing the wildlife. Be prepared for a 1 hour ride up and back from the pond. There is no bathroom break on the tour. On Sunday we did the Kennebec River Whitewater Rafting with Derek. Derek is so patient, a great communicator and made everyone feel comfortable with what we were doing. We enjoyed the bbq lunch the 3 guides prepared for us. I got out during the swimmers rapids and had a little panic when the water kept rushing over my head...Derek was great seeing that I was struggling and then helped me back to safety. Be prepared for a 45-60 minute ride to the rafting and back. There are port o potties before the ride and then after the ride. We had a wonderful 2 day weekend with Northeast Whitewater. Roberto already wants to come back again this season....so we might be seeing you again soon. Thank you for the great trip. read more

We just ranted with white water rafting. We have rafters with this company before and have been pleased both times. Julia our guide was great -quite a bad ass and we loved that about her. It was a bit cold that day and she kept us entertained with her riddles. The negative. We had to haul the rafts into the water a fair distance and then we had to haul them out. It looked as if the other rafting companies had a better system but something to check out The bathroom facilities were port potties only-even at base where they had plenty of room for a gift shop. Lunch had no bathroom facilities at all. They are working on this but not there yet. I would book with them again. Just a few things to work on. read more

My family has just returned home from another long weekend stay and adventure with Northeast Whitewater. We stayed three nights in one of their Yurts. Their yurts are very spacious and comfortable. It was clean and outfitted with bedding, fan, heater and lights. We participated in Whitewater Rafting on both the Kennebec river with our favorite guide Jessie and the Penobscot river with our second favorite guide Bryce. Jessie took the time to teach our daughter some basics of being a guide and lets her guide the raft at the end while giving great guidance and instructions to continue to ensure a safe trip. Bryce was very informative thru the trip, showing us things to look for to safely navigate the river, he was unnecessarily a little hard on himself when something wasn't perfect, but our trip with him was great. The staff here at Northeast is outstanding! Derek of course really adds the extra touch of fun to our adventures, his personality just makes you feel like your out with friends. Charlotte in the office is such a kind and patient person, she is very knowledgeable and upbeat. Barry is a great bus driver with lots of personality (and the best hat ever) he has his ways of making the long ride to and from the river as enjoyable as possible (can't give anything away, you'll just have to ride with him). Everyone here always makes us feel like our trip is as important to them as it is to us and they take the extra step to make our experience great. This trip we were celebrating our son's 21st birthday, the staff was willing to transport our cake out to the lunch site so we could surprise him with it. Not only did they do this for us, but they can definitely cook some good food, especially after spending the day on the river getting beat with you. Make sure you take your brownie too... they are so good! The little things this company does means so much to us. Everyone on their staff is extremely friendly, even Mack, who I think believed I was unfriendly, was very pleasant and friendly. I give her great appreciation and admiration for how well she still was with us. Northeast is is definitely a much smaller outfit compared to the other options. For us, this really makes them stand out more. From the first email till we are fully booked, they work hard to help us plan our "perfect" trip. Then from the moment we check in until we check out, they made us feel welcome and at home. Very few trips we take make us feel like family while we are with them, Northeast definitely does this. I think that honesty the only complaints we have for this trip are that we miss the lunches on the river, they had a special and unique feeling to them as opposed to eating afterwards and that when you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night or in a rush, its a long way from the yurt to the bathroom. Would love to see an outhouse or something closer to the camp sites. Definitely not a deal breaker with all the amazing things Northeast has, but would be nice for the kids for sure! This was not our first vacation with them and definitely not our last. Northeast has become part of our annual vacations. Thank you for making another trip great. read more

I love moose and wild animals and drove up from Boston to see moose here. I read a few reviews saying that even if no moose were seen, it's still a beautiful tour. I booked online and expected a canoe tour but apparently we were going on just a van tour - which was a bummer, we were looking forward to the canoe part. The website was a little confusing with regard to that, and at that point it would be pointless to try and change because we had driven so far and that van tour was the only tour for the night. I can't vouch for the canoe tour, it sounds much more pleasant than what I had. The van tour was pretty fruitless and uncomfortable. There were a few spots with pretty scenery but mostly just woods and gravel road. The van was so squeaky on the gravel and it was so loud - I would imagine that it would scare moose off, but who knows. Our guide was pretty quiet the whole time, just talked to the person in the front seat, we didn't learn anything about moose. My boyfriend and I spent $50 each to drive around and we were kind of itching to leave because of how noisy it was and there wasn't even any talking. We ended up seeing two moose from pretty far away and then they ran off. It felt like a huge waste of $100, I would not recommend the van-only tour. read more

Great family white water rafting trip... this was our first experience and we are hooked. Looking forward to booking again for next year. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable regarding the river and cool things to point out... but safety always came first. Lunch was a nicely cooked BBQ with consideration of allergies/intolerances. Due to COVID 19 they aren't giving tours, so they have cancelled our trip and refused to provide a refund (contradicting their own policy). Taking money for a service they can't provide is not the sign of a reputable business. Trying to resolve the issue via phone revealed poor customer service as well. When we schedule our trip for next year we'll certainly be looking for an organization with more honest business practices. read more

We enjoyed a trip down the Kennebec River today for the first time with Northeast Whitewater Rafting! It was amazing, we had 12 in our party aging from 9 to 53... The kids and adults had a fantastic time. Full steak/chicken lunch was provided mid trip and was delicious! Our guide Julia (whom we loved) was full of positive energy, fun facts and skilled on the river! She also recommended a few local restaurants.. Just had the WORST customer service experience ever at Northeast Whitewater! If i could give zero stars i would. My bf bought us a weekend at this campground in a yurt, awesome! We were sent paperwork for rules, directions, so on and we were ready to go. Drove an hour+ to this place and brought Cash, our dog with us, because the paperwork said he couldnt be in the yurt, which was fine had a long leash to tie him up and his kennel for night time like he does at home. So bf checks us in and they tell him dogs are not allowed on the property..bf shows the owners what we were sent and it simply says dogs arent allowed in the yurts, the owner then yells at george saying he wrote the rules and he knows what they say. So they of course expect us to drive Cash home and then come back, over a 2 hour trip home and back. So of course im annoyed so i tell my bf to take me back to the main building and ask again and explain that the paperwork we received didnt say anything about pets not being on the property. The guy yells at me and tells me he wrote the rules. I then asked for wifi so i could show him the paperwork we were sent and he shows me the paper he just gave us. Then a lady, presumably his wife, came out with the laptop opened to the site and just set it down, but never actually pointed to an area on the site that states no pets on the property. He then proceeded to ask if i bring the dog to the supermarket, i obviously replied no, but its camping and that its very common to bring pets camping as long as they are restrained. I asked about a refund, he said no and then proceeded to tell us we were lucky that he even let us stay there cuz we didnt read the website and we were supposed to book an activity to stay there. He stated that obviously we didnt read the whole site and the rules are listed. I swear up and down i looked specifically for rules about pets because i would not have brought Cash if he couldnt be there. I asked how much George paid, $237 and then was told again i was lucky to be able to stay without booking an activity. I told them to keep it and left. And let me point out it also says NOTHING about needing to book an activity to stay there and in one of the paragraphs it says you can just camp and relax in a yurt, not to mention im pregnant and obviously am not planning to white water raft. They should have never taken our reservation in the first place if that was their policy, which again was not listed on their site. This is my second trip with Northeast Whitewater and I will never go back after my experience. During their pre-trip safety briefing to all booked groups (40 people), an employee who I assume was a manager stopped the briefing and publicly singled me out. She accused me of being a thief and stealing a pair of the shops sunglasses. Confused, I told her the sunglasses in my pants pocket were mine. She proceeded to insinuate that I was a liar, and in front of the group. Embarrassed and upset I was brought to the front desk, where employees stood around me. I was told two employees witnessed me take the glasses. I presented the sunglasses for the manager's inspection. I didn't take long before she identified that they were dissimilar from any in the shop and in fact mine. Discontented and unconvinced, all employees continued to stare at me until I proceeded to empty out my pockets on the table, even turning them inside out. I stood there waiting, and not one member of the staff issued me an apology. Frustrated I walked out, collected my gear, and went rafting. However, the entire day was ruined after publicly being called a thief and a liar in front of an audience. Later that week a member of our group wrote them an email to recap our experience, and went on to let them know it was my recommendation that brought our group there. The responder stated that someone tried to find me in the parking lot after but was unable to, and they emailed me a voucher for a free future rafting trip. I don't know what makes them think I would return to their outfit, raft by myself, or bring back another large group after my experience. read more

Took a white water rafting trip with these on the Kennebec river. Included transportation in a school bus from Greenville out along a dirt road to the river start, which meant my car didn't have to endure the 45minute trip, and I could sleep on the ride back. Also, was a lunch along the way with steak and chicken, very tasty. Everything was professional, and the guides seemed to be enthusiasts. There were kids less than 10, and people in their 60s enjoying the river. One of the biggest advantages I saw from this company is there relatively small size compared to other rafting companies located near the boat launch. We passed three different rafting companies boats while they were doing head-counts and waiting for slower boats in their respective parties. More time moving was less time getting cold. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Trust me I'm a whitewater enthusiast. I've taken rafting trips all over the country including several in Maine and northeast whitewater is by far the worst outfit I've been with. I recommend using ANY OTHER COMPANY if you are planning a whitewater adventure on the Kennebec or the Penobscot rivers. Most of their guides are new to the job and inexperienced. Our guide was a college kid who had only been guiding for a few weeks! We got stuck in the middle of a class 5 rapid and we're lucky no one got badly hurt. Not only that but the bus drive to the river was over an hour long on bumpy dirt roads. One of the tires on the bus actually popped on our ride and we had to sit around while they fixed it. Sitting that long on a bus really sucks especially in wet clothes after a long day of rafting. The store sucks, and the staff all seemed really stressed and unprofessional. I recommend using Three Rivers, Crab Apple, NEOC, or any other rafting company if you're rafting in Maine. Good luck and be safe! I hope this review helps you make a good choice! read more

My boyfriend and I did a whitewater rafting trip on the Kennebec. It was a great day, lots of fun. The staff at NE Whitewater are friendly and helpful. It was a long, tiring day but very satisfying. Lunch was good too. A word to the wise: they don't have bathrooms at this facility, it's a porta-potty. Kind of ridiculous for the price, and not easy to change in one after a long day on the river. This trip wildly exceeded all our expectations. We booked a private guided moose tour for our family, including two young children. Ashley was our guide and she was so awesome and informative that the trip would have been great without seeing moose. We did find a few moose, including a mama and her baby which we were able to watch from our canoe. I'm attributing our moose sightings to Ashley's immense skill as a moose finder and a little luck considering they are wild animals. Above all, Ashley's passion and respect for these beautiful animals was what made this trip extra special. read more

What a joke of a company... The owner has no clue.. they are so busy with a run down motel across the street that I felt like I was bothering them.. He was smooth talking - will sell you the golden gate bridge.. and his wife would wrap it for you.. Stay far away from this company they have no morals.. I was 5 minutes late for my trip and they left without me and wouldn't give me money back.. none of their employees seemed happy. and the homemade muffins were definitely frozen batter .. the only good thing was the view from their parking lot of the lake.. read more

Good time, great work by guides, well organized for white water rafting. Did not need lunch. Would have preferred a somewhat shorter trip than 9:15 to 4 pm and no lunch, perhaps just snacks. Beautiful Kennebec river. read more
