Castle like structures, obstacle course, swings and slides. Their names are on 50 buildings in the area including this park. Countess De Hoernle passed away at the age of 103 in 2016. This 80 acre park was created in 2012 on land that used to belong to the IBM Corporation. The Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District used 13.9 million dollars of tax money to build the park. This park also known as the Spanish River Athletic Facility has a lot of amenities. It is ADA accessible. It has many sports fields including 4 baseball / softball field, football field, and 4 soccer fields. There is restrooms, concession stands, a playground, picnic areas with tables, and exercise paths. Lacrosse and rugby are other sports played in the park. My favorite part of the park is the exercise path that runs around the 20 acre lake. I loved watching ospreys diving into the lake and coming up with fish. This lake attracts a wildlife including birds and even a snake that crossed my path. There is a fitness zone with outdoor exercise path along this path but it is currently closed because of Covid. This path connects under the bridge to the path that runs through Pondhawk Natural Area across the road. That path also leads to the Spanish River Library. You can really get a great running/ walking workout here. There are even more exercise paths that run behind the athletic fields in the back of the park. Another great thing about this park is that there is a lot of security which puts your mind at ease that your car is less likely to get broken into compared to other parks. I saw security driving around on the golf cart several times during my visit. This park is open every day from 8 to 11 except for Sunday when they close at 6. I love working out at this lovely park.

This is part of the Spanish River Athletic Park. The trail is paved and can be shared by cyclists…read moreand pedestrians. You can go around the lakes and stop by the Pondhawk Natural Area if you so desire. The trail links up with the El Rio Trail. As you exit the park, you can cycle west toward Military Trail and still be on the sidewalk. As you exit the park, you can ,also, head east and get on another part of the El Rio Trail ,or you can ride a bike over the bridge that goes over the expressway to add onto your ride. The big downside is that some people don't stay to the right while walking, so you end up with them blocking the path. There are signs at one part of the lake that say Dog are prohibited, but people seem to ignore that. To sum it up, it's a nice place to ride or walk except for inconsiderate people.

There's a paved walking path (so it is accessible) that's a little under a half mile in length. Flat and thus easily paced. There are sports activities -- a basketball court, tennis courts, and a volleyball court. A corner bocce ball area looks a bit overgrown. There's a workout area with various bars. And there are sedentary options too with benches, pavilions, covered shade and a picnic area, and sunny areas, grass and greenery for a quiet relaxation, too. The kids would enjoy the climbing structure, the slide, the swings, and the see saws. There are facilities (bathrooms) in a separate building also. Overall a pretty good park for the neighbors and visitors.

I took my children here recently to try out some new playgrounds while in the area. Two playgrounds…read moresit next to and behind this community's rec center and pool area. Parking is ample, free and shaded. The first playground is designed for smaller children and is designed as a sailboat. A small rock wall, pretend boat helm and two-tiered design appealed to both of my kids (1 and 3). A tiny 'hill' beyond this is the playground for older kids. There were a couple of cool features on the lower levels. Both playgrounds are connected by a sidewalk that continues on in a few different directions - around a lake and through tennis courts. Across from the sidewalks are large fields that I assume are used for soccer, due to the goals. My kids ran around in the mid-length grass/weeds trying to catch dragonflies. The field is very far from the road so it was nice for them to run around without needing to worry. We spotted different kinds of birds and a family of ducks far away. We did walk through the courts (2 tennis and 1 basketball, at least) to another part of a water body (Lake Charleston? No clue!). I was pretty nervous about alligators being that close to the water. We came to a tiny dock that was so covered in bird poop that it was uninhabitable. I didn't see any signs about alligators, but I don't think I'd walk my kids around that part again without a stroller. I'm not sure if it was just a windy day, but these are kind of 'waterfront' playgrounds and definitely received nice breezes. They were also shady with benches and altogether pleasant. Although not fenced, the far proximity from roads is nice and feels protected. The bathrooms are located outside but on the other side of the rec center (not near the playgrounds). They were remarkably nice and clean. We only encountered one other young child here briefly. Otherwise, when I arrived, the smaller playground was being used by a fitness class (for adults), and the larger one was being used by 3 teenagers.

There is a Fitness trail for the adults as well as a Children's exploration playground. The children's playground has slides, swinging, climbing equipment and adjacent to Restroom facilities. We saw some families enjoying the shaded areas as their children romped. If you haven't visited this park in a while, you should revisit to see the great additions and changes that have been made.

I felt this was a great active park for the western county community. There's more than ample parking in whatever section you choose to visit. This newly completed park is huge -- over 50 acres in size. They've added (new) four lit baseball/softball fields and two sand volleyball courts along with the soccer fields. There are plenty of benches and pavilions throughout. A paved walkway/exercise path has length/mile markers and parcour exercise stops. The most actively used place when we visited was the playground. It even has an area for kids with special needs. The state of the art playground structures offer ample exploring, climbing, sliding, etc for kids 5-12 especially. Right next to the playground are bathroom facilities. I liked that they had men's and women's separate bathrooms on either side of one building and right opposite the area -- in the middle wall -- was a generic bathroom for families and for any and every one. I'm glad we came by to check out this park. I know the grandkids would really enjoying playing here.
