If your loved one isn't able to advocate for themselves, be advised, THEY WILL BE NEGLECTED. My…read moremother was admitted to the third floor of Mount Alverna Village for physical rehab, which we were told was "the best option in the area." If this is the best, I can't imagine what the other facilities are like. From the moment she arrived, the problems began. She was placed in a room with a non working TV and received no orientation whatsoever -- no information about meals, therapy schedules, daily routines, etc. When I arrived shortly after, I asked if there was an admission overview for families. I was told there wasn't. How do you admit a patient without giving them or their families any guidance? It was lunchtime when she arrived, and she hadn't eaten all day. The meal served was fish, which she doesn't eat, so they told her they'd bring her a sandwich. It took two and a half hours -- and only after I asked three different staff members -- for her to receive it. Her TV still wasn't fixed despite multiple requests. The overall attitude felt indifferent at best. I asked to speak with the manager, Rajwant Kaur LPN, because the lack of attention was already alarming. The explanation I received was that staff had been busy with a resident party. Yet after the party ended, my mother was LEFT IN A WET DIAPER FOR MORE THAN 14 HOURS!!! The neglect didn't stop there. My mom began documenting how long it took for someone to respond when she pressed the call button: 20 minutes, 30 minutes, sometimes longer. Occasionally someone would pop in only to say they'd return, and then she'd wait another 20 minutes or more. The breaking point came when a night aide was rude to her after she had an accident. She became so anxious about having another accident that she started getting up to use the bathroom on her own because she couldn't wait 40 minutes for help. This is dangerous for anyone, let alone someone with a fractured hip. She also repeatedly asked for her ice pack, only to be told it was "misplaced." Interestingly, it reappeared the moment I arrived to take her home -- after just four days. And Rajwant Kaur continued to make excuses. The only positive experience was with the chaplain, who was genuinely kind and comforting.

He was diagnosed with vascular dimentia which caused him to be bedridden. I visited 8 assisted living/Nursing Homes before I decided on Mount Alverna. I picked Mount Alverna because it was close to my home, it was non-profit and it was Catholic. I want to thank everyone at Mount Alverna for the care and kindness he received. The journey my brother and I traveled during this time was very difficult but made easier by the patience and understanding that the staff showed my brother. I couldn't have made a better choice selecting Mount Alverna. I am grateful that my brother was treated with respect and dignity during his final day. Thank you.

However, each time I visit, they are compassionate and helpful. And have soooo much patience! On the other hand....in the last year and a half that my mom has been there, I've had to spend thousands of dollars replacing her clothes and shoes as she is always out of clothes. I've given up asking for the clothes, coats, and shoes as they are long gone. One of the caregivers mentioned that it is the agency people that come in and steal from the residents. It is out of hand. All of my mom's Christmas presents are gone, anything of monetary value is gone and again, her clothes have been replaced many times over. Also, my mom is visibly dirty almost every time I arrive. I clean her up in the sink the best I can, but she really needs to be bathed more often. I've taken her to my house to bathe her when it is too bad. I've walked in and seen my mom with the dirtiest diaper and cleaned her myself. I clean up her bed and room when I can. I have to cut her fingernails and toenails myself as they get so long and ragged. My mom is allergic to chocolate and has been given chocolate many times while I am there. I've told them every time she cannot have it. It is not the fault of the nursing staff and caregiving staff as they have their hands full. I blame administration for this. If I could afford to move my mom out of there, I would.

Among other things, they neglected to take proper care of his catheter, which was confirmed by an ER nurse. He got a severe infection and became septic. The night he went to the ER, they actually called me to ask if I thought he should go. I asked about his stats, and although I'm not a doctor, it was pretty clear to me he needed immediate care. I said to send him. I was shocked that since they are supposed medical professionals, they didn't make this conclusion on their own. Unfortunately, he never recovered. During his short time at the hospital, it was discovered that he had severe bed sores. This was never communicated to us by O'Neill, and as far as I know, they did not try to treat them, just let them get worse. Before this most recent emergency, he made several other trips to the ER due to their negligence, including being infected by covid. To be somewhat fair, I've seen several nursing homes this year, and they are all bad. But, that is no excuse. I would never, ever recommend sending a loved one here. On top of all this, communication was terrible, and had I not gone there frequently to ask about his condition, no one would've reached out. Billing people were rude and even the social worker was of zero help. I would rather take my own life than be sent here for "care". Horrible and disgraceful.

The nursing staff was responsive to his every need and checked on him frequently. The pastoral care he received was equally wonderful. Sister Margaret Mary, in particular, was so warm and loving toward him, and I was touched by her kindness. I'm sure she brought him much comfort! In addition, I was pleasantly surprised by how the staff took such good care of my family and I while we kept vigil in my dad's room. Between my brother, my mom and myself, we never left his side on the weekend he passed. The staff saw to it that I had a pillow and blanket to keep me comfortable while I slept there overnight, and they also brought me a phone charger when I needed it. One day, a staff member cooked my mom a grilled cheese sandwich just for her, because she knew she needed to eat. They promised us they would do anything they could for us, and they certainly did! When my dad passed away, we were all given a hug by our wonderful nurse, and given reassurance that he was no longer in pain. I could tell that one of the other nurses present was fighting back tears, which touched me, as well, knowing that I was not alone in my grief. I really just can't say enough good things about the wonderful people working there who make it their mission to provide comfort and care to their patients and their families. And the facility, itself, is beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. Nobody wants to have to bring their loved one to a hospice, but if you should find yourself looking for a facility to provide palliative care for your family member, you really couldn't ask for a place better than Holy Family.

In April 2014, my brother was a resident at the Pearlview Skilled Nursing facility. He had a horrible experience, which I would like to relate here on Yelp. My brother suffers from an extreme brain injury, and cannot eat, swallow, talk, or communicate in any way. He has become hyperactive, due to this extensive brain damage, and cannot stay still, making him a challenging patient. He is also on tube feedings, which make him susceptible to aspiration pneumonia. At the end of April, my brother contracted pneumonia, while he was a resident at Pearlview. This is a risk that people that are on tube feedings face, so I do not blame Pearlview for this. However, what transpired next is truly INHUMANE and ILLEGAL. When my brother contracted pneumonia, Pearlview sent him to Medina General Hospital. Once admitted, Pealview then informed the hospital that they would NOT take my brother back when he recovered. In other words, they evicted him from the nursing facility, leaving him homeless, WITHOUT NOTICE. According to Pearlview, this was because of his hyperactivity, and they did not feel that they could offer him appropriate care. The staff at Medina General Hospital was then forced into overdrive, trying desperately to find my brother a a skilled care facility that he could go to once he would be discharged. This took over a week, and even though my brother was ready to be discharged, there was nowhere for him to go. (Finally, the hospital social workers found a wonderful nursing home in Hudson, called Hudson Elms, that was happy to take him. Fortunately, my brother has received great care there, from a truly phenomenal staff.) Pearlview Skilled Nursing Facility acted in an inhumane and illegal manner by evicting my brother, refusing to take him back, once discharged from the hospital. While I understand, and agree, that Pearlview could not provide acceptable care for him, it is ILLEGAL to evict a patient from a nursing home without giving 30 day notice. Pearlview did not give notice, shirking their responsibility, and abandoned my brother, a severely brain injured patient without the means to communicate, to Medina General Hospital. This is illegal, immoral, and unethical. As if eviction without notice isn't bad enough, my brother suffered terrible lacerations during his time at Pearlview. The hospital staff was horrified by the state of his wounds when he was admitted from Pearlview and had difficulty believing that any nursing facility would have allowed these wounds to progress to the point where they were upon admission. (I have photos of these wounds, and would be happy to provide them to anyone who is interested.) Once I saw these wounds, I would not have sent my brother back to Pearlview, regardless if they would have taken him or not. However, this does not in any way excuse Pearlview's illegal actions. I have contacted the Ohio Ombudsman program to lodge a complaint against Pearlview. However, I feel compelled to also Yelp about this experience, in hopes that it will save another patient from a horrible experience such as the one suffered by my brother.

I actually was a good worker and doing right by the residents and I knew I needed more work I'm going to take my test soon so I went in and worked the Stna side for 3 days and was left alone .. on the Stna side it was so busy so hectic and just a horrible experience for me being this being the first job since my schooling it was my first time being in that field and they made it seem like they would help and they didn't . They kind of like just horrible and the following morning of me getting off super late I did 11pm7am I had to finish charting which I still haven't been fully taught the way to do it just copy what everyone else do and if there isn't anything then just mark something cause they don't want the nurses giving them poop medicine and stuff like that anywho I had a full hall alone and I managed to get every room but 3 and I let the worker know who came in after me cause she started working on the floor while I was still on the floor at 7:30 I was doing my trash and linen and I let her know about the 3 rooms I didn't get soon as I got home mind you I stay 5 minutes from here Kim called me and asked why'd I leave the rooms the way I did and they still have missing documents from me I answered honestly like how I was told by all the other workers if it's past your shift the other person comes in you let them know everything that you didn't get to touch and you go and I basically told which I have every conversation on record . I literally told her like it was past my shift I tried to hurry and finish chatting I only had 3 rooms left I let her know and she literally said yea where not gonna need you for this position anymore and I said that's fine contacted my lawyer immediately for being wrongfully terminated. Still in the process but whether it can get pushed forward or not I WOULDNT RECOMMEND! To live or to work because truthfully they just need someone who gonna do there job for them they had a whole Stna on the assisted living side while I was working on the stna side because she needed a break knowing I wasn't even fully certified or even hired in as a stna I was hired as assisted living for 11pm-7am and within 2 weeks they fired me and blamed it on lack of work when any job I've ever worked at can tell you I have the energy of a lightning bolt and i am great worker! I'm not at a knew job assisted living and they are great they actually train you ! And don't tell you your doing a good job just to call the next day and fire you !
