We stayed at this campground in 2022 and appreciated its convenient location. Unfortunately, our customer service experiences were disappointing. In 2022, my husband made our reservation, but due to work, I had to arrive before him. Because the reservation was under his name, I was not permitted to access our campsite when I arrived, despite sharing the same last name and being part of the reservation. I waited approximately six hours, until around 7 p.m., before the reservation could be accessed, which meant setting up our tent in the dark. We attempted to find an alternative solution, including canceling and rebooking the reservation under my name, but we were told that doing so would result in being charged twice. We attempted to book again in 2026 but ultimately had to cancel approximately two weeks in advance due to unforeseen circumstances. Under the campground's cancellation policy, we were charged an $81 cancellation fee, in addition to a previously charged $13 transaction fee. We found the policy and the lack of flexibility very disappointing. Based on our experiences, I would recommend looking into Rocky Point or PG&E-owned campgrounds in the Lake Almanor area. We have found those options to be more accommodating, well maintained, and reasonably priced. read more

Warning: MAGA country. I had to overlook the trump and thin blue line flag for the weekend but upon exiting and seeing the "Put Your Bidens Here" sign at the dump station I was angry and disgusted. Also, the camp grounds are on top of each other and they don't enforce the leash rule for dogs in camp. I had aggressive neighbor dogs invade our camp and they continued to leave them unleashed. Didn't have a bad experience with the management as I didn't have a reason to talk to them. Overall, I have a negative opinion of this camp and won't be back. read more

The campground all around was pretty clean and maintained. A small beach area is next to the check-in, and a dock area is on the opposite end. The rocks are along the water in a good portion of the spots around the lake. We camped over the 4th of July holiday and found there to be only a few issues that didn't make the stay a complete hit. The spiders in the area were so bad. Harmless, but man, everything seemed to get spiders on it, and we brought some home. The power was out one night until midnight and then the campground cut power around 3:00 until 7:00ish a few of the days. We took the full hookups seriously and didn't bring a backup generator. We highly suggest brining one or solar panels to get you by during the extra hot portions of the day. Also, an additional note. They offer tent spots and cabins at North Shore Campground. We had access to one of the cabins during our stay, which were very nice. read more

Filthy, Dusty, Rude, One and Done Booked this campground for 3 nights, in large part for the hot showers. The showers and bathroom facilities are frankly disgusting and not something we would us, nor would our friends who were there with us. The staff was rude and provided the typical "we don't provide refunds" when we told them respectfully we we're leaving after the first night. The campground was a wierd mix of what looked liked full-time campers but mostly no one was occupying the sites that there campers and belongings were left at. Post apocalyptic vibe, can you say ghost town. North Shore Campground is a dusty one and done for us. Caveat emptor. read more

If you want to sit/walk on jagged rocks at the "beach", while also being able to stand in up in the middle of the "lake" without getting your shorts wet while with neighbors sitting 2 feet from you, pay the 100 bucks . MAGA CENTRAL Trump flags flying at the registration are super offensive unless you're a supporter of the orange dictator. The staff were equally rude. They came out and yelled at me because I was going 7 mph (instead of 5 mph limit). Crappy campsites all packed in on top of each other. Twice the price of the nearby PG&E campgrounds . Save your money and go to Rocky Point on the other side of the lake. Fewer Nazis there. (I gave it 2 stars because the view was beautiful otherwise it would have been a 1) read more

The Trump/Vance flag along with the desecrated US flag flying from the front office and the large state of Jefferson banner on the library definitely sends a message. The sign on the dump station is deplorable. It's a shame that guests have to be hit in the face with ignorant political views in what should be a place for quiet, peaceful relaxation. Campground is very dusty with haphazardly, laid out sites. The sites are uneven, especially the ones that face the lake. The water and electricity hookups are also weirdly located on the sites. The roads are very narrow with no discernible directions. The bathroom/shower house is filthy and there are many porta potties around the campground. read more

Another nice stay at our favorite place in Almanor. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They assisted us with parking our RV and watched them assist an elderly customer park his trailer. Please keep the rates affordable so we can continue to enjoy. read more

Strictly based this experience on the heinous customer service. Perhaps they prefer to keep business at a minimum, and honestly I wouldn't blame most California businesses these days. We never made it there- we did have reservations (not easy to accomplish because they do not answer their phone) but then we needed to cancel two months prior to our trip due to a schedule conflict. We were fine with just putting our deposit down on another date but the gal who runs the desk clearly was not ok with us moving our reservation date or following their refund policy. Hostile and sarcastic would be a nice way to describe her. We wound up cancelling all together as a result of her inflexibility to work with us, but they wound up charging us not only our deposit but also the three nights we had booked- despite us calling and cancelling months in advance- per their policy we should have gotten our money back. Luckily our bank recognizes crappy and sleazy businesses like theirs and we got our money back since we had all the correct documentation to show we were courteous, well within their cancellation policy and made attempts to simply move our reservation. Maybe it's a lovely resort but only if you don't care to be greeted by a friendly person and don't care about integrity. read more

We had a really nice stay here. The sites aren't huge, but we had enough room that we didn't feel cramped. They have more space in the table/fire pit area than where you actually park the trailer. If you don't like dirt, this is not your place haha. Our toddler was a MESS within an hour of being there and playing outside. Being able to see the lake from our trailer and walk along the shore was so nice! The weather is also great and there was enough shade that we could get out of the sun when we wanted to. The rules in this campground are VERY strict. We arrived before the person who booked our sites and were turned away and not allowed to check in until our party arrived. They were about 2 hours out so we had to just leave and kill time which was not great. I wish that was clearly stated on the website or expressed when reservations are made over the phone. They have a nice office with snacks and ice cream and a cute little library that was fun to visit. The swing set came in handy with our son, and it was nice to have the "beach" to walk to, although it is very windy and choppy from about noon on most days. Overall, we had a great stay! read more

We had three spots and most were fairly flat. We booked together but unfortunately weren't placed together. Make sure you ask for shade because they either turn off or reduce the power in the heat of the day. It wasn't a huge big deal but definitely something to be aware of going in. The bathrooms and showers were always clean. You have to pay to shower but it's reasonable. You also get one free pump out if you stay 7 days. The camp is clean and well ran. Campground is really good BUT the reservation system is horrible. No options but to keep trying to get a site. For two years in a row the system was not working when it reached the published date/time. By the time it was working it took only five minutes for pretty much every site to be booked for Labor Day Weekend. This will be the first time in over 10 years we will not be therek for our traditional family trip. I was up from midnight to 1:15 trying to reserve sites. Even email the info to them, but I guess no one was monitoring the email either. Campground is great but administration is awful and they need fix this system, change it, or have someone monitoring it when it is supposed to be available. read more

I received a call from a female staff member regarding the placement of our travel trailer. It was brought to my attention that our trailer, which was parked at site 109, needed to be moved to site 108. I explained to the staff member that my bf, who was responsible for the trailer, was working 45 minutes away and would be unable to move it until later that evening after work. Despite my explanation, the staff member was rude and unaccommodating, insisting that the trailer be moved immediately or face being towed. I proposed the option of allowing the new guests to take our site since it was adjacent to theirs, and my bf would relocate the trailer upon his return later that day. However, my suggestion was met with further hostility with the staff member yelling at me that our trailer will be towed if we did not relocate immediately! I inquired as to why there was no communication regarding the placement of the trailer during the check-in process when he initially parked the trailer, nor on Thursday evening, or on Friday evening thereafter while he was present. Nor did any staff call me to alert us of the misplacement on previous days. This lack of prior notification meant that the issue could have been addressed at a more convenient time, avoiding any disruption to our business operations. However, the response I received was the staff member screaming threats to immediately tow the trailer. Ultimately, due to the unreasonable demands and disrespectful behavior exhibited by the staff, my bf was forced to interrupt his workday, costing our small company $875 in earnings. When my bf arrived to move the trailer, the new guests apologized to him saying they never asked for it to be done right away and they were sorry he left work. Why was the staff so utterly disgusting to us?! They refused to provide a refund for the nights we did not stay. The staff do not manage loud guests at night. The phones are not covered by staff most hours of the day or night. We called 3 times looking for help to reschedule our reservations before we got a return call. We called 6 times trying to get check in details before our arrival, with no answer ever and no return calls. There is no way to check in if you happen to arrive later than the staff decide to stay and gates are all locked. The website, reservation agreement, and voicemail do not have what hours the staff are present. There is no description of gates closing at a certain time either. read more

If your camp closes at 10pm, wouldn't you tell that to your customers booking online? It should be posted as instructions on the Confirmation that you won't be allowed to camp if you are later than 10pm. Instead, they bury this info in the tiny bottom of a webpage that isn't involved in the online reservation. We were late and not allowed in, and refused refund. I wonder how many customers get this treatment. No one even seemed to be there camping and yet reservation showed 4 spaces left. We didn't see anyone there!!! read more

Beautiful location. Small camp sites. Rude staff. We were right on top of people. Crying babies and snoring campers was an annoyance at night. The staff could have also shut down parties that went until 1 am. The bathrooms are all "porta-potties" other than one central bathroom. The central bathroom was nice. The showers work and the toilets were maintained to a decent standard. On the second day of our stay the "porta-potties" we're almost overflowing and the smell was awful. My biggest complaint about this campground was actually the staff. On arrival there was a group of teenage girls working the front counter who were a little rude, but not a big deal. The worst one was an older blonde woman. As soon as we arrived we were driving through with our windows down. She yelled at a customer and proceeded to drop an F bomb within earshot of myself and children. Just trashy and unprofessional. The location really is well maintained and beautiful. It's close to town and has everything you need. Had a nice time, and would consider returning. read more

This review is for the behind-the-scenes management only. I didn't get a chance to stay. My biggest frustration with this campground was about canceling my reservation in summer of 2020. At that time I was told on the phone that my deposit would be absorbed, in which I completely understood, well sort of. I NEVER actually received an email confirmation when I booked over the phone, back in April. It wasn't until I called in August to, first confirm my reservation since I was already charged the deposit that day I booked, but without an email confirmation (I searched all folders, so it was never sent) I wasn't positive I was officially on their books. They confirmed my reservation and then I asked to cancel. I received an email confirmation for my canceled reservation and was told I would not be charged beyond the deposit. I thought that was the end of that business transaction. Well, that date came and passed and there was an additional charge on my credit card for those days I did NOT stay. They would not reverse the changes when I called them back to inquire saying that I never actually canceled when I had a canceled confirmation in my email. Wow, just wow. Integrity is everything. Hold up to your word and written policies if you want to be known as a trustworthy business. read more

I wanted to share some information on the North Shore Campground, Lake Almanor, in Chester, California. We booked 4 spots the beginning of the summer for this upcoming weekend arriving on Thursday. California has been hit hard with massive wildfires recently. We have been in contact with them in regards to the situation and they even stated on Friday we can cancel for a $25.00 fee per site or reschedule. We have requested to move all four spots to next year due to the current conditions and they absolutely will not accommodate. As a business owner and I understand the need to have policies and procedures but when it comes to situations such as this, compassion goes a long way. Good business practice would be to have some leniency given the current situation. They have now lost at least 4 families of returning customers. And we have lost $430.00. I do not like to share negative reviews but in this situation, along with how the manager responded it's disheartening. Our family loves visiting Lake Almanor but unfortunately, North Shore has lost any future visits from this group. We are super disappointed and hope that this doesn't happen to others. read more

Thanks to Kitchen Mike who is a long term resident at the camp ground and Mitch an employee we were able to get our slide back in and on the road! Don't take space#93! This camp ground should be ashamed of themselves for calling it a camp spot. No shade and no room to put up our tent, pop up and keep our 1 vehicle there. We left and went to a county camp site. Came back the next day to check out, and return key card. I told the lady that we were checking out early because the spot had no shade. She looked at me, rolled her eyes, and said, "Well, okay". No validation that we had a bad experience at their establishment. No, I'm sorry, no, can you tell me more? I just paused and walked out feeling really frustrated. I was not even asking for a refund, although we paid for 2 nights and did not stay more than 20 minutes. Good business practices would have been to use that moment as an opportunity to get the customer to come back. I will not be going back here. You have warned! read more

The perfect spot to beat the valley's summer heat. North Shore Campground on Lake Almanor is a great destination for camping, boating, fishing, or just relaxing. We stayed at an RV site with power and water. There are no sewer hookups but they have a dump station and honey wagon service is available. We had originally reserved a very nice water front site however, we had to change our reservation dates and were moved to another water front site. Upon arrival we found our site was a bit too close to the highway for our liking. No worries, the staff let us try another site. Well, being new to RVing we didn't realize how tight a fit it was for our 33 ft travel trailer, and we didn't have enough leveling blocks to set the site level. Staff came to our rescue again and offered wood to get us level. Ultimately we were able to move to a 3rd site that fit us quite well and we stayed for 4 days. We had an excellent time and the kids didn't want to leave. The facilities are well taken care of, and though they aren't fancy, everything is clean and works as it should. We will be back next year I'm sure. read more

What an absolutely horrible business. We showed up before the other people in our group & were not allowed in because they were the ones who booked the site. The red head assistant manager was immediately unfriendly & unhelpful. The person in our group who made the reservation called them directly to vouch for us. We had to ask to speak to the manager, Peg, who was also immediately unfriendly. They still wouldn't let us in. They said it is their policy to not let anyone in until the person who booked the site is physically on the premises. Absolutely nowhere on their website or in their posted policy does it state such an absurd rule. They wouldn't even let them add our names to the list as guests & tried to compare it to a hotel! This is a campground- not a hotel... & yes, you can check in as a guest at hotels without the person who booked it if they put your name on the reservation. read more

I spent my childhood at this campground, as my grandparents came here for over 30 years. When we came the staff were friendly, the property was clean, it was all around a great time. This is my first time back in about 10 years and I have to say, the front staff (the red head in particular) is absolutely rude and unpleasant. The bathrooms have been out of soap for three days, are filthy, unkempt, etc. unfortunately don't think we will be back anytime soon. read more

We loved our time here! The location right on the lake is a perfect getaway. Coming from Reno it's only a few hours drive. The campground has a small camp store, small playground, dock, plenty of small beach areas. The campground has full amenities including showers and toilets if you are tent camping and electric hookups and water for your RV. There is a dump station on site. The water temp is cool but not freezing and Easy to get in on hot days. Camp sites don't seem too crowded and have fire pits and picnic tables. We just loved the views of the lake from our camp site! We will be back for sure! read more

I will start out with the pros: Gorgeous view of Lake Almanor. Cons: Majority of sites are extremely unlevel. You're booked into a site with very little consideration of the size of your RV.We have a 35ft. 5th wheel, and were given site 11. Do NOT book that site. There's many trees with low lying or dead branches which made it awful trying to get out as well. Our site was on a steep hill and would not have been able to get out without 4 wheel drive. Very powdery dirt. Too many steep hills for safe bike riding for kids. We left a day early just so we could maneuver getting out of our site(using the empty site across from us). There is a guy who will come and dump your tanks at your site. He was real nice. The gal in the office was like dealing with a robot. read more

Very frustrating. Tried to find out what sites were available to a 40' motor home this summer (we were very flexible) and the staff refused to tell us. They insisted that we had to do it all online. We kept having to put in different dates to try to find an opening but had no luck. Would not recommend this campground to anyone! read more

I made a reservation at this campground for one night as I was fishing with a guide the following day. When I arrived I let the couple running the office that I would be leaving at 4:00 am and wanted to know if I could leave my trainer there until 2:00 when I returned from fishing. I let them know I'd leave as soon as I returned to camp. They agreed to let me and said they would put a not on my reservation so others would know. They were very helpful and polite When I returned after fishing the following day, another female employee immediately came to my trailer and demanded I leave right away. I explained why I was still there and that I had approval from the office. She refused to hear what I had to say, continued to shake her head and kept rudely repeating over and over I was to leave immediately. I finally realized she was a raging bitch, told her to go away so I could finish packing, and left. I was so upset I just left without dumping my waste tanks which was a real bummer. It would have been nice if the couple in the office had left a note so this could have been avoided. Plus, that woman needs to be calibrated about customer service, and because of her I will never stay at that place again, nor will anyone I know. They are completly mistreating their guests! Family has been coming here for decades. This place means a lot to us and we spend thousands of dollars each season for the family to enjoy. Now our family members aren't allowed to go, we are harassed by the workers, Managers are telling us conflicting info, check in workers have discriminated against some of us & they're refusing us access to our seasonal spot despite being family members on our list of approved guests. We have always enjoyed North Shore Campground in years past, but this year is turning out to be much different. We have reservations for a cabin at the end of August 2024. I called today, August 4, 2024 to cancel our reservations because of the uncertainty of the Park Fire, the direction of the fire and potential poor air quality at Lake Almanor three weeks from now. I was told that since the air quality is good today I would lose the full cost of my reservation if I cancel my reservations today. If the air quality were poor today I could cancel it and get the full cost refunded minus a $30 reservation fee. Hmmm... I am doing my best to understand the logic, but I don't see it. So, the best I can do is be held hostage until a poor air quality day when I can hopefully cancel the reservation. In the meantime, my vacation plans are on hold. I cannot make reservations at a place like Tahoe until this is resolved hoping places will be open to rent at Tahoe after I cancel this reservation...so be careful when you make reservations not asking the obvious question these days, what happens in case of a wildfire? If the outcome of this situation changes, I will be happy to update my review. read more

LOVE this campsite. I am conflicted, because if I give it all the rave reviews they deserve, it may get harder to get a site!!! Staff was amazing and friendly, plenty of grounds crew to fill propane, answer questions, pick up trash, etc. Propane can be filled there and nicely done! The store has most of what you could need while camping (extension chord and s'mores forks, thank you) and ice!!! Can't wait to come back!!! The front counter staff was amazing!!! Make sure you do your research on when hunting season is for the area. It's earlier than the rest of California. The Fish & Wildlife site is not helpful with its vague map. The staff either doesn't know or downplays the impact of opening season. This campground is nice and right on the lake, but so are the waterfowl hunters. Also, your receipt will say: "If a reservation is cancelled more than 2 weeks prior to the arrival date we issue a full refund, minus the non-refundable $27 transaction fee; or Camp Credit in the full amount can be elected." But in reality YOU DO NOT GET FULL CREDIT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The owners need to show more transparency so campers know what they are getting themselves into. I was so disappointed in their lack of transparency and unwillingness to give us full credit for different days (before duck season starts) that I moved my group event-- of 8 RV sites (with more planning to sign up!!) elsewhere. read more

We have been coming to almanor for the past 11 years for the Fourth of July and I have never been treated so badly in my life by the management and staff. We first got there and one of us with the reservation in her name walked up to the office and asked to check in. A lady named Peggy told her no she needs everyone on the reservation to be here before we let anyone else in. I asked if she could maybe accommodate and we can maybe come in and wait while I breastfeed my baby becuse we have Been traveling all day to be there while we wait for the rest of the party, that is only about 5 mins away. She told me, "no you can do it outside on the lawn but you are not coming in".I told her nicely and respectfully okay that's fine, I walked out of the office. She came out of the building in front of everyone and yelled at me in front of my child and my friend, saying "your a bitch, and you are never aloud to be on the campsite ever again. She falsely accused me of slamming her door". She walked away and I was very confused because I never slammed her door nor did I raise my voice ever to her. Our whole party got there and I went back inside and asked if we can all come back into the campsite or can we get a refund and she said no refunds at all, even before we checked in. she was very rude to everyone of our friends and family, finally after discussing why she treated me terribly , she let us all come in. We paid for a 5 day trip and stayed only a day and 1/2 becusee of how we were treated. I have never been so upset with how rude and inconsiderate this woman and her staff has treated people around her. It was absolutely disgusting behavior and not a right job for her to be in a management position. She is an older woman blonde and her name is Peggy, if you choose to come to this campground please be aware of her and the staff, I recommend going elsewhere. This place would be absolutely extraordinary and a great place to stay if they got new staff. read more

This is our second year staying here. New ownership this year. Nice location, clean, well kept main bathroom, nice beaches for swimming, decent prices. My peeves are: 1) online map shows 3 bathrooms, central one with showers, and 2 others at the east and west ends. I chose a site close to the west "bathroom" since we have 4 kids. When we got here it turned out this "bathroom" is really just a porta-potty, which the girls refuse to use. So we have to trudge 5 min across camp to use toilets at main site. It would not be such a big deal if the map had not been misleading. Worse yet, the port-a-potty wasn't emptied all week, and got progressively more disgusting. 2) No enforced quiet hours at night. I had to ask rowdy neighbors partying after 10 at night to keep it quiet. People came in at 11pm and started to set up camp noisily. People were gunning their boat engines at 6am. If we cannot have common courtesy for stuff like that, the camp hosts should enforce it, but there was no sign of that all week. 3) Sites along the west end of the campsite (we were in 102) are close to the marina, which means listening to boat engines being gunned early in the morning as people go fishing, sometimes as early as 6am. Some of those boats are really loud when opened full-throttle, and clearly some people did not have the courtesy to idle out far from shore before gunning the engines early in the morning. Nice spot.... Lots of trees... Bathrooms easily accessible... Staff in office and throughout campground are very helpful and friendly.... Fire rings at the site are good size.... 10 ft picnic table at each site.... The only challenge was the bugs.... Mosquitos were not a problem... These weird glass wing bugs that were drawn to light and then die... They get on everything... So lock it up.... Other than that... Awesome!!!!! read more

AWFUL! All spots are TINY, you can maybe fit 1 tent and a grill but that's it. People are packed in like sardines, definitely not safe with covid and definitely not 6 feet between spots. That's not even the worst part, the staff is so RUDE and PATRONIZING. Specifically a young girl with red hair answered every question with yup, nope, worse than Walmart. There was no way our camping equipment would fit so we stayed 10 minutes and left for Almanor Campground. We immediately returned the key, never asked for any reimbursement but any kind of acknowledgment would had been nice. But nothing, they must get this a lot. It might be by the water but you better be sure the lakes full because north shore is the swamplands the lake that looks more like a pond. read more
