Fire rings at the site are good size.... 10 ft picnic table at each site.... The only challenge was the bugs.... Mosquitos were not a problem... AWFUL! All spots are TINY, you can maybe fit 1 tent and a grill but that's it. People are packed in like sardines, definitely not safe with covid and definitely not 6 feet between spots. That's not even the worst part, the staff is so RUDE and PATRONIZING. Specifically a young girl with red hair answered every question with yup, nope, worse than Walmart. There was no way our camping equipment would fit so we stayed 10 minutes and left for Almanor Campground. We immediately returned the key, never asked for any reimbursement but any kind of acknowledgment would had been nice. But nothing, they must get this a lot. It might be by the water but you better be sure the lakes full because north shore is the swamplands the lake that looks more like a pond. read more

Scenery is nice, but that's about it. Hot and very windy with little shade at sites. Constant storms of dust clouds and weird cotton-like debris all over (not sure what it was, honestly) - looked kind of like tampons? Campsites way too close together - no privacy. Dead animals and animal excrement left all around the site. TONS of bugs. Lots of noise and light pollution from the roads both in and outside the campground. FILTHY and overflowing port-o-potties that were never emptied or cleaned during our stay - they stunk to high heaven in the heat of the day. Also, very overpriced for what you get. read more

This place is a GEM!!! The staff was all so friendly and helpful and the grounds were well cared. We couldn't have had a better site #52! Lakeside with a beautiful view. They have a library and little kid game shack that is adorable, along with a nice small playground. Very disappointed that we had to cancel due to severe illness. Called and cancelled 10 days ahead of time and talked to the manager to see if we could get any of our deposit back. She said "no" under "any" circumstances they do not refund a deposit. I understand policies but how about a little compassion. We are a retired couple and are out over $100. So beware, no room for compassion from these folks. Not even "I'm sorry" and may some incentive to come when my health has improved. Was excited to check out this lake but will not be booking there again. Ugh!! We called the campground a day later to see if our friend could use our reservation with the deposit. They sad "no". Charles and Teresa (owner operators) are fantastic hosts. They keep a very clean camp, the are extremely customer service oriented. They always go above and beyond. Charles is always willing to help, he always busy fixin' something, but always has time to stop and chat or say hello. The two of them are a class act. Kari is the #1 staff person. But more importantly, she has become our friend. She too bends over backward to see that our trip is always enjoyable. She too puts the "CS" in customer service. Northshore is perfect for kids, playground, the lake, kayak rentals, you name it! Fishing is always good! You can't find a better campground. We've been coming here annually for ten years and have no plans on stopping. read more

Loud, rude long-term campers that party till early morning. And this wasn't even a weekend. Tiny sites with no room for chairs or tents. Overpriced. One bathroom that serves the whole campground with over 100 sites. Pay showers were okay, but the token machine ran out while we were there and no token, no shower! The kids had fun swimming and paddle boarding in the lake. That's the best I can say. We really wanted to get away and camp but this place was so bad I should have stayed home. We made reservations here for my birthday week this September for 5 days and I had to cancel 6 days before our trip being that my husband had a bad fall off a roof. I told them that i could send them documentation of this injury from the hospital, they declined. BEWARE, THEY CHARGE YOU 50% OF YOUR RESERVATION FEE!!! Our stay was $295.00 so they charged us $160.00! RUDE ABOUT IT TOO! I have camped for years and have never seen a cancellation fee like this, EVER! We had such a good experience camping there! The staff at the store was so friendly too. I had my hands full with my toddler and couldn't take our wagon inside because of the stairs. So they helped carry bags of ice, firewood or whatever else I bought and put it in the wagon outside for me. I didn't even ask for help, they offered! Made my day more than they know. read more

My husband made reservations on line for 2 nights. It was supposed to be 3 nights so when I checked on line that the next night was still available I was happy to make the reservation. Due to unexpected wildfires, we had to cancel but the management is rigid and rude. Even though the 3 nights were one stay, they said that because it was made separately that they would charge me a $33 cancellation fee for each. So it was $66 to cancel my 3 night stay more than 2 weeks in advance. No exception even though it is quite obviously one stay and could have easily been taken care of in no time. With happy repeat customers! But In less than a 5 minute phone call, I spoke to both managers and was told "that is our policy" and hung up on. There are too many other wonderful places to waste a moment on this place. I have never spent my time to write a bad review but people should know. read more

I am trying to write a good review for this place and it keeps posting the wrong review. This was a wonderful place to stay with a very accommodating, friendly, and polite staff. It was beautiful, clean, quiet, and was extremely relaxing, even with a 5 month old baby. We will definitely be returning next year, and probably in the summertime so we can swim. The spaces to back into are very roomy, even in the dark, and the view of the lake was just gorgeous to wake up to in the morning. There is a nice little store where they have several items you may need, and they are not overpriced at all. Love this place! read more

We stayed in Quail cabin for three nights. I wanted to like the place, but it became apparent that the place was infested with mice. We were woken several times overnight with the scattering of little feet, and saw them in the living room while we were sitting. I understand that it's in the mountains, but at $150 a night management should be accountable for keeping the place rodent free. Also there was no notification that they had a mice problem! Managements response was that there wasn't much they could do. They claim they are going to work on the problem, but that doesn't help me or the money I have already spent. I was not camping because I didn't want to have to deal with things like critters - but apparently I was out of luck. read more

A great location on Lake Almanor, many sites have a great view of the Lake with many sites at lakefront. We've been going here with family for 20+ years. Unfortunately Rates have recently been raised and free showers are now pay showers. With higher rates and having to pay for a shower I would expect some positive changes. However we saw very few noticeable improvements or upgrades, and it doesn't seem as clean and well maintained as it used to be. I hope things improve soon and are back to the place we've enjoyed for so many years! read more

Beautiful campground! The staff was amazing and the kids had a great time riding their bikes through the sites. We recently stayed here over a weekend, it was a great getaway during all this covid business... We only live 1.5 hours from Almanor but it's always nice to get up in the cooler temp/high mountain area. The staff was kind and helpful. It's a very kid/pet/family friendly campground. If you're looking for a quiet place with no kids, this probably isn't the spot for you. This was our first time RV-ing here so before we went, I did my research and knew all sites were close. I would say about half the sites are a bit tight to back into, but it really isn't that bad if you know what you're doing. The sites are not level, so you'll definitely want to bring extra pieces of wood or whatever you use for your tires/jacks. They have 30 amp service and water hookups, but no sewer at each spot and as this point in time no wifi but good Verizon service. However, they do have a dump station for when you depart which works good if needed. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the only thing that was a little annoying was there was a lot of dust, no gravel throughout the sites but it's camping... If we wanted a perfectly clean area we would have done something else. It's right on the lake which is great in the evening, you have the cooler air blowing in which feels amazing! The staff is fantastic. Everyone was super nice and helpful. The whole campground is kept clean of garbage. A nice thing they have is pump out service that comes by every few days if you want for an extra $10 to pump the gray and black water out. What we didn't care for is that the campsites are so tight. After we set up our travel trailer there was just hardly and room around the unit. We had space 101 which was kind of on top overlooking all the other spaces. Although it provided a lake view it also provided a view of the top of the roof of the travel trailer below us. It was like we were stacked up on each other like condos. Too tight too close with no space to spread your wings. Now, I know this is camping but this is some dirt camping. Be prepared to be in this dirt that sticks to you and everything. Bring lots of washcloths to scrub it all off because it's sticky. Now this part is not the campgrounds fault, but they do say there is "Fishing" on this lake in the title for the campground. Yeah...if you like to fish, and like to have that be part of camping experience...Lake Almanor is not it. There is no fishing from the campground itself. Towards the shore you might find some bait fish, and they are so small you can't catch that. Out on the lake itself the fish have parasites. They are not edible. Well, I guess you could eat it and run the risk of worms in your intestines. I believe the lake is just too warm and has caused the fish to have problems. Although a very picturesque lake, lovely area, and the people are so nice...we will not be back. Off the bucket list. Done. read more

The campground is nice and we have had in the past years a great time here. However, due to the current lassen fire, we as a group (3 campers) were forced to cancel our reservation due to evacuation in place. 2 of us were given the choice of a "fire voucher" or "refund" minus a $8 charge that we didn't mind. 1 of us was told "No fire voucher available" and "No Refund" due to the fact she's out of the cancel range. Now mind you we all cancelled on the same day the city evacuation occurred AND the 1 who was advised of NO refund actually cancelled first out of the 3 of us. Josie was the person who dealt with ALL 3 of us. Im not sure why she feels it's ok to treat 1 of us differently and this is due to a fire that is out of our control. Plus the fact that the air quality is in the "Dangerous" levels even if the campground was going to be miraculously open in a week for our stay. It's such a shame as a large group of us like to go to this area every year. Looks like we will be looking at other campgrounds for next year read more

What a wonderful experience! We stayed 4 nights. The new owners and staff are so very friendly and helpful. We reserved a pull-through site online. The site was quite uneven and our blocks were cracking under the tongue of the trailer. When the trailer inched forward a bit, we hooked back up faster than we ever have before! The front office was so helpful. They were happy to offer us a better site, giving us a choice of all that was available. Tip....call to reserve. The online booking site will just plop you in a spot. They try not to fill spot #64 because it is so unlevel. The sites are wonderful. You can see the lake from each site, which is so beautiful! There was plenty of shade, didn't really need the air conditioner in the trailer. The water was warm and good for swimming, other than the many tiny little dead fish floating in the water. (The shallow water warmed up so quickly that these little guys didn't have a chance). The bathrooms were very clean. I loved the individual showers, with doors instead of curtains. They were always stocked with paper towels and soap. Each site has it's own fire ring, which is fun. We bought firewood at the store and the staff insisted on driving it to our site, rather than us trying to carry the firewood on our bikes. Much of the area is paved, which was perfect for bike riding. We rented a canoe, which was fun and and inexpensive way to tour the lake. The staff recommended a canoe for 2 adults and 1 child, rather than kayaks, as we are all beginners. They were right and we had a fabulous time! The only draw back is that the sites are water and electric only. They do have a mobile dump truck that will come to your site to dump the tanks for a fee, if needed. We just conserved water and dumped at the dump station on the way out. Overall, we loved it! It is my new favorite campground! We made sure to reserve for the next trip, so we will definitely be back soon! read more

We stayed at this facility for 5 days and loved it. This facility is very well maintained. The location is beautiful, and the lake is perfect for kayaking. It is about 25 minutes from Lassen National Park and 5 minutes from Chester. There is shade everywhere. There is a coin laundry and a small store that is well stocked. The younger staff members and the maintenance crew are extremely courteous and helpful. Be prepared to pay for showers. The only restroom facility is in the center of the RV sites. If you're staying on a tent site you will likely have to walk a few minutes to get to the bathroom. Our only issue happened on our first day there. After being there for several hours, two employees came over and said we weren't allowed to have a tent on an RV site. When we made our reservation, we told them we'd be pitching a tent next to our teardrop trailer, and no one informed us of the policy change. Also, there were 3 other sites in the vicinity that had large tents and trailers on their RV sites. The staff claimed Cal Fire regulations about too many people on a site. We had four people on our site and the campground regulations specify a maximum of 5 people on an RV site. They wanted me to rent a tent only site that would have put me in a different section from my family, and they made us feel very unwelcome. After talking with the owner, he explained that the "no tents policy" was new this season and agreed to let my tent stay on the site with my family as long as I paid a separate fee. I wanted to leave, but stayed because we'd been driving for 12 hours and were very tired. read more

Stayed there for 3 nights recently. Nice enough campground right on the lake. But it's the warm weedy side of the lake. Lots of shade from the trees so you didn't overheat. Lots of RV's but no noisy generators. Pretty clean facilities. If your sensitive to noise be careful picking your site some areea close to the roadway occasional traffic at night might keep you up. They have a weird rule only 2 adults maximum per a campsite. For our party of six adults and three kids we had to get three campsites. The third went unused.. If we were a family on a budget we could've squeezed into one, two was plenty of room, three was just ridiculous. That policy alone is almost enough to earn them two stars. Oh and no soap in the bathrooms. Kinda creeped me out seeing everyone coming out the stalls with no soap to wash their hands. Maybe that qualifies me as a germaphobe but... read more

I'm sure this is a nice campground, but there cancelation policy is abysmal. They less than 100 mi from one of the largest forest fires in CA history and refuse to give any of the deposit back even though I gave them almost 1 week notice. I understand the 14 day notice, but I have family members that are very sensitive to the smoke and while you claim the air is ok now, any shift in the wind and will be back to unhealthy. They wouldn't not even negotiate 1 night payment and they wanted to keep 2 days +$25 cancelation fee. They are doing their best to leave a very bad experience so that I would not ever want to return with my family. read more

The employees who run this campground are terrible. Don't ever stay here, just left after the worst experience ever. They are rude, not helpful, and made a huge mistake on my bill and are now refusing to fix it. They lie and their campground is filthy. The entire place including all cabins stink like raw sewage. Toilets constantly overflowing with dirty sewage everywhere. All they care about is getting your money. Unfortunate because Lake Almanor is a beautiful lake I have been visiting for 20 plus years. This campground has everything a family needs. It's kept clean and the staff is super helpful and friendly. We tent camped for four nights. We used the store to buy ice and campfire wood. We also bought the kids ice cream treats. We enjoyed the beautiful views from the campground. We also used the clean showers and laundry facilities. The kids enjoyed swimming and exploring the campgrounds. They fished from the boat docks . Dogs are welcome too. Kayaking is ideal. Or paddle boarding. We had to escape Reno. I love Reno, my new home, but the smoke from all the fires was truly oppressive. Actually, my very smart husband decided we ought to go camping again before the summer started and booked a spot just before the fires swept in, but I had to be dramatic. I am upgrading to 5-stars because I cannot find a single thing I'd change about this lovely campground the amazing hosts that make it an incredible experience for us. They remembered my husband, and why wouldn't you? Something in the neighborhood of 7 trips to their general store last time to buy things we forget, that, and his witty reparte make him stand out. They are truly wonderful people, and the scenery is amazing. We got another waterfront camp spot, near the bathhouse, which is really very clean and well maintained. We rented a canoe, and only used it 2 hours, because, as is normal for us, we get out on the water and throw a line in, and the weather turns ugly. Just wind this time, but we paddled back to shore quickly. They gave us credit for the unused hours, which they totally did not have to do. We picked up some more beer, talked with them a bit, and returned back to our lovely site. They also have cabins, which we will check out this fall/winter. read more

We were turned away from a different campground because we have a "Pitbull" in our family and we needed a place last minute. Fortunately we found North Shore and we are beyond happy we did. We ended up with a spot right next to the lake. The park itself was great. The best part was the staff. Every single person was GREAT!!!! We ran out of milk and went to their little store. They didn't have any to sell at the time but they went and picked up some just so we were taken care of. You just can't beat service like that. We will definitely go again and I will always recommend people to stay there. read more

We stayed at this campground for the first time. We had a trailer site with a tent site the was next to each other which was great. We need those 2 sites together. The campsite was very clean. The women's shower are was very clean which u was very thankful for. You do have to use tokens to use the ahowers. You get two tokens for a dollar and it's 2 minutes m for 1 token. We made RV reservations 6 weeks in advance. When we got there we were shocked how close each spot was. There was no table at our spot so I complained to the worker picking up garbage. What a pain to get a table. I don't think we would've gotten one if the guy next to us wasn't leaving and offered us his. All the other spots had tables. The RV space we were in was so unlevel I had to jack up the door side about 10". The triple step on our trailer was so far off the ground we had to use two extra step stools to get into the trailer. The spot was so tight our awning was 2 feet away from our neighbors awning. Everybody around us was upset about the narrow spots. We left two days early. No gravel or asphalt anywhere but the roads. The dust was unbearable. I used to camp there years ago and I had a pretty good spot cause I was there all summer. This place is a terrible choice for short term campers. The seasonal people get all the good spots. We won't be going back. They don't even empty the dog waste receptacles. Disgusting! read more

Camped here for a week for my husband's birthday. We were welcomed immediately, the ladies at the store were very nice! We were given all the information we needed to know and to get into the restrooms. The campground is very quiet. Many of the residents park their trailers and fifth-wheels here for the summer and come during the weekends. So it's not as full as it appears to be when you first arrive. Definitely not a place for party go-ers. All of the amenities were very clean and appreciated during a long stay. Only recommendation is to camp near the front of the campground. The further back you get the closer you are to the dam which is surprisingly busy and loud in the middle of the night. read more

This was a good campground at a bad time of the year. When we stayed here, the lake was more of a receded swamp, not very scenic. Since it was fire season, camping in the wilderness means that camp fires are illegal. However, being a large developed campground, fires are allowed at North Shore Campground. This comes at the price of being a little too close to your neighbors. We rode our dual sport motorcycles into Lassen National Forrest from the campground, and only had to spend about a mile on pavement. There are endless riding opportunities, and some pretty neat scenic views if you climb to the top of the peaks on the forest roads. We only had one full day of riding, but you could easily spend several. We saw other dual sport folks at the campground also. read more

We stayed at the Osprey cabin recently, I'd like to share our feedback. First, the good. The Osprey cabin is located on the north end of the campground, a bit tricky to find and you drive past the RV dump station and what I'd call their "Corp yard" where the maintenance equipment and vehicles/boats/etc. are stored. We were pleasantly surprised to finally find the cabin, we loved the deck area facing the lake. A very relaxing view. We had camp trailers on both sides but the residents were friendly, considerate and quiet. There was a short path leading down to the lake's edge and we used it often. There is abundant bird life...pelicans, Canadian geese, Osprey, Bald Eagles and many more. The geese honking in the morning brought back many pleasant memories. The cabin was shared with our immediate family (4 adults, 1 child) including a 15 month old granddaughter. We set the new parents up in the master, as it has an adjoining bathroom and more space. My wife and I stayed in the 2nd bedroom, plenty of space for us and out belongings. The common area includes a well appointed kitchen and an eating area (with windows looking out at the lake) and an open family room with a large tv with satellite service. We never had any issues with the tv. There was a nice 8x8 "mud room" off the kitchen for storage of ice chests and fishing and baby gear (stroller, etc.) with a side door leading out to a small covered porch (we stashed our bikes outside there, no problems). The cabin was very quiet, no squeaking floors to wake sleeping babies or tired parents, the bathrooms were well appointed and everything worked well, no noisy toilets, good water flow, no shortage of hot water. The kitchen was well stocked with hardware, plates, glasses and mugs...no need to bring anything along other than consumables like paper towels and food. There are places to shop in nearby Chester, so you can always find things you may have forgotten there. Check in was quick and the attendant was helpful and not overbearing or intrusive. Check in and check out was easy and smooth. The deck had 4 comfortable chairs, a large round table and a picnic table. There was an excellent Weber gas BBQ grill as well. Some negatives, please take with a grain of salt as they may seem nit-picky...there is one gated entrance so people checking in tend to park at the gate, blocking the entrance. It would help if there was a signed parking area where check ins could park and not block the gate. We did figure out that, using our pass key, we could drive up to the exit gate and bypass vehicles blocking the entrance gate. Also, we had two vehicles but were only allowed one vehicle pass and one cabin key. It would be convenient if we had keys for both vehicles. We ended up stashing the cabin key hidden outside and that worked well. The vehicle pass key was more problematic. We'd have to pass the key back as the gate only allows one vehicle at a time. There is, at present, no wifi...not a huge deal but in this day and age, it is really nice to have. Cell service is spotty, people with iPhones seemed to have issues getting service vs our android phones. We were on vacation, so not a huge deal but it would be nice if these services were improved. I read that some people had rodent problems, we didn't. I did notice what looked like mice droppings outside and on the walls and windows...after some sweeping and window cleaning, we realized that the local bat population was the culprit, not mice or rats. It didn't bother us, more bats mean less bugs and my morning routine included a quick sweep of the deck and a quick window cleaning...no big deal. Then, as we checked out, the attendant let us know that none of the cabins would be available next summer as they were all rented by single parties for the entire season. Good for the campground owners since there is no turnover but bad if you want to return. I guess some people figure it's cheaper to rent a place for the entire summer season than own a place there...but left a bit of a sour taste for us that spend time at Almanor every year. Sigh... All in all, a very comfortable and relaxing stay, we would stay again if we could book a cabin. Guess we'll have to find another place that will be available next year. Bummer. read more

We came here because we could get lake side RV spots. Luckily we got 2 sites across from each other. This campground was awesome. Staff so friendly & helpful. Showers were clean, kept up and very accessible to our site if we needed them. Loved that we could use coins right inside our own shower stall. 4 coins is sufficient for shampoo & wash. We toured the lake and other campsites we noticed they had RV's packed in one after another. Most of these tent sites very close together. Not here-plenty of room. Library is old jail house in 1800's!!! Playground right on lake & has a large campsite right next to it. Trees galore so there was plenty of shade everywhere. We hope to rent some of the 5-6 cabins available next year for more family to come. We will definitely be back again!!!!! read more

If you cancel within 14 days they will take your whole deposit. Long time Yelp user, yet I failed to look up the reviews on this place before booking.. which have posted similar experiences. I booked a campsite here two weeks ago as we had decided to join some friends that had already made reservations for this upcoming weekend. I made the reservation and read the cancellation policy at the time when I booked it. It said that I may be subject to a minimum $25 fee and if cancelled within 14 days 100% of the reservation fee (which I took as the $8.00 reservation fee, like most campgrounds). I was under the assumption that I might lose $33. With the fires surrounding the area, unhealthy air quality, and all of the forest service closures extended through the weekend, this to include Lassen National Forest and Plumas we decided to postpone our trip and cancel this weekend. I called them this morning to cancel and was told that they would not refund my money. They said the "deposit" is not refundable and there are no exceptions to their policy. I also emailed them and the Manager, Peggy said they stand by their policy. I have not seen a cancellation policy like this at any other campground. They have time to re-book this site and will now receive double the amount. I will not support their business in the future. read more
