Rented twice during our stay in the area - first a SeaDoo for a couple of hours then a pontoon boat for half day. Overall the experience(s) were positive - the lake is great (although it gets choppy in the afternoon) and the staff were all young and exuberant, a high energy fun vibe from all of them. The SeaDoo was in great shape and was just right for us as prior experiences (years ago) had us worried it would be unstable and hard for our kids to deal with. The pontoon boat was fine but had a few quirks (one Captain's armrest was loose and the 140hp motor felt perhaps a bit weak for good tubing (renting pontoon boats at lakes is an annual tradition for us so we've experienced a variety of power levels) but it was adequate for some fun. The refueling will add to your rental - be prepared for that, but the nightmare stories from prior customers do not match our experience. The staff was friendly and chill and we had no drama with returning both rentals. Thanks for two good days on the water! read more

Beautiful log cabin grounds with green grass gardens. Apple trees, ping-pong, pool and restrooms at base. The marina is small but has what you need. Boat drop off is steep, as well as the exit road. Gotta have a good big truck. The boat rental company there friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the 20 ft pontoon. I've been coming to Lake Almanor every summer for the past 46 years. Many times we camped (West Shore), or rented houses on the West Shore. Back in 2016 we started renting over at The Peninsula. We had issues with property management in 2017 and 2018 (we were at the house at 412). I was a little leary to come back, but in August 2020 I spent 3 days at the log cabins with my daughter and her best friend. Mary and Amanda changed EVERYTHING. Talk about customer service!!! They were always so pleasant and helpful during the entire stay. They really made everyone a priority. They both take extreme pride in running the property smoothly and they make it their mission to delight and take care of every need for the renters. I just made my reservation for this summer. We're locals. For a very special occasion, we paid $750 for a four-hour boat rental starting at 1pm. Showed up early to check in and complete the paperwork, but the boat wasn't ready until 1:30pm. Although the business gave us the half hour on the back end, it resulted in us having to wait around an extra 30 minutes for no reason. We rented a worn and sun-bleached tube ($45 for the four hours), and a wakeboard came included with the boat. After tubing for a couple hours, we tried the wakeboard but discovered part of the hardware that attaches the right foot binding to the board was missing, so no matter how hard we tried to tighten the nut the binding wouldn't stay in place. It rotated 30 degrees both directions. So, a bit disappointing that the board--part of the price of the boat ($750 for four hours)--was defective. Later, when a daughter (age 8) and a friend were back tubing, the tow rope suddenly snapped. We were going only about 15 mph, so it appeared the rope was simply old and worn. The sudden loss of tension caused the tube to flip, pitching them both in the water; which scared my daughter's friend. Fortunately the end near the boat didn't snap in anyone's faces. Upon returning we brought these minor matters to the attention of the marina, and I asked if they might consider comping, say, the cost of the tube rental ($45) because of the defective board and defective rope (since we were otherwise doing $750 of business with them, along with buying a few hundred dollars worth of fuel). The dock staff seemed sympathetic to the concept, but the owner--a Mr. Womack?--refused to consider any compensation. He also, oddly, seemed afraid (?) of meeting with me when I asked to speak with him about his defective equipment. (The staff told me he'd meet me during the boat inspection; but he wouldn't get out of the truck and communicated with his poor staff via walkie-talkie, making them the unfortunate middlemen.) The staff explained that since we didn't call to report the defective wakeboard, as required by the contract, (when we were 30 minutes away from the Marina), and didn't come back for a replacement (which would've taken an hour of our four-hour rental), "then it was like eating a steak and then complaining it wasn't cooked right." I tried to explain the flaw in this analogy; there was nothing wrong with the boat, for God's sake, just the wakeboard, so it was more like having an entire meal and a couple side dishes were bad. A good business move, I suggested, would be comp us for the broken stuff. But no, it was evidently entirely our problem that their equipment was broken, and we had to pay full price, per the contract. Fine, your contract sucks, and the best I can do is let other people know what kind of stingy business you run. So, based on our experience, be forewarned: although the dock staff was friendly, the equipment (wakeboard, tube, tow rope) was old and defective, and don't expect to be reimbursed anything if it breaks or doesn't work, per the contract. Might want to consider another business for your Lake Almanor recreation. read more

Rented a pontoon for a day of fishing out on Almanor, the boat was in excellent condition, the staff was exceptionally friendly and helped my friends and I plan a route to find the best fishing spots. Prices were very fair for what we got and when we forgot to take one of our jackets off the boat after we left the staff offered to ship the jacket back home for us. 10/10 experience, highly recommend. read more

They got one star because that is the lowest option available. We found out the hard way that jet skis can sink if a plug vibrates out. Luckily, some friendly people pulled us to their doc and called them to pick us up. As would be expected, we were late returning because they had to pick us up from the location where their jet ski failed. In spite of this fact, they commented on the late return of the second jet ski that was waiting for our party to be rescued. Based on the small boat they send their staff to tow broken down items and overall actions taken by the owner, Brett, it is evident that he has no regard for the safety or wellbeing of anyone. At no point did they check to see if anyone was okay, including my son who was on the sinking jet ski. He refused to acknowledge or speak to anyone regarding the issue, opting to call the sheriffs instead of asking anyone what happened. Everyone was okay because of some kind humans who gave us a place to sit until they came to get us. I would never recommend this business to anyone, ever. If they don't learn how to treat customers, their equipment probably won't be the only thing going under. read more

I rented a house on the peninsula last July for our family vacation, and rented a pontoon boat fir 5 days through Knotty Pines Boat Rentals. Although there was a small fire near by we had no idea that in a couple days it would be a raging forest fire. We arrived at the house on saturday night & the rest of the family arrived on sunday. The boat was rented Tuesday thru saturday. Voluntary evacuation orders started monday night & my daughter & her family left. We left on tuesday with less than 10' visibility due to the heavy ash falling. On Monday we went into the boat rental office & asked to speak to the owner as we needed to cancel our reservation. We were told he was on the phone but we could wait. After 20 minutes we were informed that he left. They said the only thing they could do is extend my reservation throw the end of the season. I disputed my Visa charge. The Dixie fire lasted almost 4 months. I was then sued for the entire amount & although i called a week before court, i would have settled & paid him a fair amount considering we didn't step on the boat. He didn't want to settle & was adamant that i signed a contract. Which i would have paid if we weren't evacuated. We went to court & the Judge was very clear about the obligation of signing a contract; however public safety us always more important & he was thankful that we didn't wait to evacuate & be safe. There is a store also that has quite a variety of things for purchase. We rented a boat and it was a blast. A pontoon boat actually! No fires are allowed at this spot as the fire sept made them Take the fire ring away. These cabins are stocked well with everything you need! The only thing you need is your food and clothes! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! These guys do not deserve your hard earned dollars. For some background: a few months ago we were getting ready for a weekend of boating with some friends on Lake Almanor. We had contacted the people at Knotty Pines about boat rentals and after a few calls we managed to secure a nice ski boat. We were excited! we've never been to Lake Almanor and we heard good things. Unfortunately the Dixie Fire rolled in. Fires and intense smoke covered up all the roads to the south of the lake. This made it very dangerous to travel to Lake Almanor and the air quality was not worth it. A few days later the state issued an evacuation order and we had to heed it. We contacted the marina with enough advance warning to cancel the boat reservation, but they refused to return any deposit and the cancellation fee, even though we were within our time limit to cancel. Brett, the owner, is un-responsive and never returned our calls. I understand mistakes can be made, but there is no excuse for not doing right by their customers, especially when there is a mitigating situation like a raging forest fire and mandated evacuation. These people are so dishonest that you should AVOID doing business with them. So let me be extra clear: DO NOT RENT A BOAT HERE. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

Due to the Dixie Fire and poor air quality, our VRBO host acted selflessly and advised we cancel our home booking (she was subsequently evacuated). I was shocked when the Knotty Pine manager explained they would be keeping $600 of our money given the issue is outside of our control. Given my dissatisfaction, I requested to speak with the owner- he did not display any compassion and was pretty cold about the situation. As a business owner, I do have compassion for their lost opportunities this year. That said, I always want to make sure we are "doing right" by our customers. We rented a boat over the weekend this was our first time renting from this company. We got a premium ski boat for the day. The staff was very nice, friendly and attentive. We have rented many boats from various locations over the years, this was by far the best service and the boat was taken care of and well maintained. The seats and interior of the boat clean and cared for we could tell these boats had been serviced and maintained regularly. The staff know how to operate boats and have great customer service. Employees were unprofessional even before we had a problem with our rental. They claimed we caused a 3 inch scratch on our ski doo. Never toke it to shore and docked it on the other side when we were done. Said we should have taken pics before we went out. To the contrary they didn't have pics or a previous damage log to prove it wasn't there before we left. When we asked to measure the scratch ourselves as they charge by the inch they rolled their eyes and starting searching for a tape measurer. Turns out they never actually measured it. They didn't have a single measuring device they could find while we were there. When I asked the guy how he measured it earlier he said he just eyeballed it and thought he was being very generous with only calling it 3 inches. We went back to the truck and got a Leatherman with a measuring tool. The scratch was only 2 inches. His generous estimate would have cost us $100 more. don't bother trying to complain to the owner. Beware if you rent equipment. Take pictures or a video before you rent of the entire watercraft and read the contract carefully. They charged us $200 for a ding we were not responsible for on a Seadoo. Very unprofessional staff. After reading through all the negative reviews on Yelp over the years I realized I was not the only person they scammed. I am male 70 years old I rented the 6 person runabout. The young men running the Marina were very nice and friendly. The 1st thing we did was inspect the boat and the prop to show me there was no damage to the prop and I would be held accountable if I damaged the prop. The 1st thing he did was push the up down button on the throttle and the engine prop went down into the water and started the motor. I drove the boat down to Rocky Point Campground campsite 107 within less than a mile of the Canyon Dam to pick up my friends. I did not beach the boat or hit anything and they climbed in,I drove 400' to deeper water and I noticed a vibration,which I knew was seaweed on the prop. After cleaning off the seaweed,the engine prop would not go down! I called Knotty Pine at least 10 times or more only going to Voice mail! I also called the Sheriff's department multiple times, this was a day from hell !!!!!!!! I finally got towed back by the Sheriff's department after waiting almost 5 hours! When I got back I had to refill the gas tank cost me $ 6.10 as you can see I didn't go anywhere. Brett and Tish offered no refund!! basically they said F you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found out when the Sheriff towed me back this boat has had issues 5 or 6 times of what I had happen!! The owners of this place have a F you attitude about customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHATEVER YOU DO - do NOT rent from this resort. In the owners own words "I'm one of the few people who doesn't believe the customer is always right." I would rather give this place NEGATIVE five stars. If you don't want to read this whole review the short of it is that Brett the owner is incompetent and runs the place like a deranged dictator whose employees are terrified of him. We have rented a ski boat from this company for the last 20 years in a row. The old owner was a lovely man and we had nothing but great things to say. Unfortunately he got sick and sold the business to perhaps the worst businessman ever. Enter BRETT. This is by far one of the worst customer service experiences, if not THE worst. We picked up the ski boat on Sunday. It was completely filthy with dirt all over all of the seats. The skis looked very small and we asked if they were adult-sized. They insisted they were the right size. Within 15 minutes of having the boat out on the water, it was making a shrill beeping noise. We called to make sure it was still safe to operate and they told us yes. The next day we took it out and the incessant beeping was pretty unbearable, so we called again. They said they didn't have any boats to replace it with but that we should bring it in because they knew how annoying the sound was. They told us the boat would be ready the next day at 8 a.m. When we went to pick it up around 9 a.m. it still wasn't ready so we had to come back in the afternoon (now the 3rd unplanned trip back to the Marina and time out of our vacation). Now that the boat was "fixed," we took it out to ski and lo and behold, the child-sized skis were in fact child-sized. Better yet, the binding was ripped and they weren't adjustable because the plastic was damaged. Trip #4 back to the Marina to trade out the skis. On our last day we wanted to go out to ski, but the engine died and we had to maneuver the boat back out to the buoy and wait to be towed back in for our 5th and final trip in 5 days to the Marina. Despite the fact that Brett's employee told him it wasn't working when they came to tow us, he insisted there was nothing wrong with the boat. Moreover he accused us of trying to "jack" him - suggesting we were lying about the boat having any problems (even the initial problem that they allegedly replaced the fuel pump for) just so we could get our money back. Come to think of it, yes, 5 trips to the Marina in 5 days does sound way better than a vacation and waterskiing. When I also mentioned the ski issue, Brett said it was my job to inspect the equipment. When I explained we had asked if they were child-sized skis and his employee said they weren't, he said if I had been coming here for 20 years I should have gone over to the supply closet and picked out a different pair of skis. The worst customer service I have ever received! Upon asking for a manager I spoke with Diane. My family and I have been coming to this resort and renting a pontoon boat once a year every year for three years and this would've been our fourth... we will never be returning to rent boats here ever again. I'll be honest I did ask if there was an exception that could be made based off of the fires and my parents being in their 70s and unable to withstand the boat for eight hours in the smoke. Diane told me that no exceptions will be made and that she has 500 other people asking for exceptions and cancellations. I understood that and respected it from a business standpoint. Then when I tried to cancel she had told me that the fee was going to be 25% based off of the timeliness of the cancellation. However when I look back at my contract it stated 20%! .....within the same 30 minute conversation she offered me for the cancellation at 15%. I confronted her about the arbitrary cancellation percentages and why there are three different percentages I'm being told within the same conversation. Diane then retracted and said regardless it's going to be 25% even though I have a picture of my contract in front of me stating 20% on the day that it was paid. I literally had to send a picture to Diane via email while on the phone with her to prove that she did not understand her own cancellation policies and that in fact it was 20% at the date of the purchase of the boat. Had I not had the documents in front of me when we purchased then Diane and this business would've gotten an extra 5% off of me because of negligence and simply making up arbitrary numbers. There was absolutely no customer service. She treated me like I had never been to this resort before in my life and when stated that I plan to come here for years to come with my family and continue to be a customer, she said "well we get new customers every year and we will be just fine." if she would just be reasonable with in the cancellation policy and at least give me what she told me at the 15% she could have at least salvaged something, but she didn't. She told me that she was not going to give me the 15% and once proven with the picture then she finally agreed to give me the 20% and act as if she was doing me a favor. The entire time she had zero ability to defuse the situation, she had zero care for retaining a loyal customer, she refused to see the macro of the situation versus losing out on $120 in the moment off of one transaction. In all the years that we've been going here, the customer service from the front desk and from scheduling has been amazing, but due to this Situation and Diane displaying terrible customer service my family and I will not return to knotty Pines in the future. I warn all future customers to double check the cancellation policy in the future and make sure that if any extenuating circumstances like a fire occur then they need to be aware of what the cancellation policy was when they purchased their rental, not what it was on the date that they're calling in. read more

My wife called to reserve a 20' pontoon boat for the AFTERNOON of June 20. We arrived half an hour early to check in and complete rental agreement. As I'm filling out paperwork I hear the man beside me, also filling out his rental paperwork, say the boat they had reserved apparently had some engine trouble so he was upgraded to a 25' pontoon boat. I didn't think anything of it until I came back from the restroom and my wife was in tears. We had brought our 3 and 5 year old kids and some friends, plus an ice chest and things to enjoy an afternoon on the water. When I returned we were informed that the boat we had reserved had some major engine issues the day before and they didn't have a boat to give us. Coincidence? Or did they double book our boat and the other guy happened to be a bigger tipper? (Turns out he was a very generous tipper) This is all AFTER paperwork had been done! Paperwork that clearly says which boat we are renting! Mind you it's 1 pm now and we're ready to enjoy an afternoon on the water and the boat we were supposed to be on has been broken for almost 24 hours! Just got back from a trip to Lake Almanor and we rented a pontoon boat one day and a Sea Doo the other. These guys are fantastic! The people working at the marina desk are friendly, they hustle, they explain to you what you need to know, and they get you out of there. Both the pontoon boat and Sea Doo were in great condition and we had no trouble at all. Both days were a total blast and my family had a great time. We just rented wave runners at this marina. I have to say I was pretty apprehensive after reading many horrible reviews. We were cautious... checked out the wave runner for any issues before taking it out and asked if the propeller was intact since you can't see it while under water. We were assured all was good so I told the guy I'll take his word and did mention all the horrible reviews which he wasn't aware of. We are a family of 4- 2 adults and 2 kids so we are definitely cautious and careful to be safe. We had no issues when we returned the wave runner. From the beginning to end, the staff were polite, honest and helpful. I wish I got there names but if you read this we were there on 6/25 at noon. Thankyou very much! I made a reservation for a pontoon boat with Knotty Pine Resort for my daughter's birthday. We ended up deciding to cancel this boat and go with Lime Saddle Marina. Knotty Pine refused to give us all of our money back even though it had not even been 24 hours. It is standard practice to provide a full refund within 24 hours of booking. They told me that the clerk had read the policy to me over the phone, they had not. Then they told me to take it to small claim's court. On the other hand, Lime Saddle Marina has a 72 hour cancellation policy. They provided us with a much better boat and the service was exceptional. I was told over the phone that we needed to have the boat back by 5:00 instead we needed to bring it back by 4:30 so they could clean it up for the following day prior to closing. No big deal, but they gave us a 20% discount for the confusion without me even asking. Now that is customer service. I will continue to do my boating rentals through Lime Saddle Marina. read more

My husband and I were visiting Lake Almanor for our honeymoon this weekend and were so happy we used Knotty Pine Resort for our pontoon rental. We were able to get a 20ft pontoon which was well maintained and easy to use. The two guys who helped us were very friendly, and Brain (sorry not sure if that's the right name) I believe helped us by going over the instructions, answering our questions, and even was so kind to offer their cooler to borrow for the day. The friendly service really made it for us, as well as the ease of finding the location, reasonable prices and well maintained boats. Everything seemed organized and super easy! Fantastic weekend getaway!!! The rooms at 412 were simple, but rustic. The downstairs units have a bigger living room but get the noise from upstairs people who walk heavy. The upstairs units appear smaller thru the window, we were happy downstairs. About 25 steps from the dock, which was great for tying up the boat & avoiding the in & out of the water every day. Be prepared for the side of the mountain boat trailer parking across the street- interesting. The cabin was clean & comfortable, picnic table & BBQ out front for each unit, car parking in front & they accept pets but need to be kept on leashes at all times, lots of dogs next door in the RV park. Cons: No AC or fans, beware on warm evenings. WIFI was not reliable - don't even think you can make it work. We had a cabin for 4 people, but only 3 forks. No cutting board or oven sheet to cook on. No dishwasher, so your "vacation" is spent doing dishes. Pack your paper plates & plastic silverware. There is a washer & dryer next door but bring your quarters to pay. All in all, great family time, thanks Knotty Pines. read more

I rented a Seadoo from Knotty Pine and it was one of my best experiences on this lake. I've been coming to this lake for 15 years and I usually just go out on my uncle's boat but I decided to switch things up this time, and it was totally worth it. Not only was the Seadoo great, I also grabbed some of the cheapest beer on tap that you'll find and spent the rest of the night on top of the marina. Rented a pontoon boat for 4 hours on one day; rented jet skis on another day for an hour. Before renting, we stopped by to check out the boats. The staff was friendly and helpful. My husband called 2 days before the day we wanted to rent the pontoon boat. He said the young lady who helped him was really nice. On the day we arrived for our pontoon boat, we were greeted by the friendliest staff made up of high school and college students. They were all nice and helpful. The pontoon boat was perfect in every way...well maintained, beautiful with a nice stereo system. When we arrived 2 days later to rent jet skis, we received the same friendly, knowledgeable service. Our family has stayed at the cabins several times over the last few years and we absolutely love staying here. The staff at the marina is very helpful with the rental process. We have rented several different boats over the years and have always had a good experience. Yes the fuel is a little expensive but there aren't a lot of options. The cabins have always been very clean. I like how quiet it is at night. The pool is a nice touch when relaxing at the end of the day or playing ping pong on the lawn. read more

What a terrible experience! We have been coming to this resort (and at this point... I use the term very loosely) for over 10 years. We dealt with Rob, a great guy. But this time, Sooooooooo far from it! For the very first time, we experienced horrible (the very worst) customer service. It starts at the top. Rob is gone. The owner of this establish, Brett, was incredibly RUDE. The "Owners House" (top and small apartment below) that rents for over $3000+/week, was not ready for us when we got there. But worse, for the first time in the 10 years we've been going here, he rented out a small RV spot that blo offered NOT one compensation for not being able to get in the house on time. I feel it's just good business practice to take exception care of your client or customer. He obviously does NOT get that piece of being a business man. read more

I took the COVID situation into account before writing this review. I must say that I was appalled when I went to Knotty Pine today to rent a boat. Not one of their staff wore masks, nor were they social distanced. There were 4 staff packed behind the counter ( no social distancing - they were on top of each other). In addition, no one (customers) in the store wore masks beside my husband & I. I just grabbed my guy and said let's go. I am not willing to expose my personal and family safety because Knotty Pine can't follow basic public health rules and guidelines. read more

We LOVE Lake Almanor! And one of the main reasons is because of the boats we rent at Knotty Pine. Every time we come to Almanor, we rent a boat so we can really enjoy the lake. Whether we are just cruising or going fast, we always have a blast! And the boats from Knotty Pine are always in good condition, staff is super chill and the marina house is stocked with snacks and drinks for a day on the lake. read more

The Dixie fire has caused the Lake Almanor area to either completely evacuate or be in "ready to go" mode. My family and I had reservations at a local Airbnb and they agreed to cancel our vacation rental with no fees due to the emergency situation. The local authorities are advising people not to come to the area due to the fire as they don't want more people needing to be evacuated if it were to become necessary. I had a boat and jet ski reserved. I called the marina hoping to either have my reservation canceled or possibly save it for the following year considering the emergency situation in the area. The manager was not understanding at all. And said I would have to use the boats within the following month. I asked why it this particular case (federal emergency declared) would they not work with us. They said if they let everyone cancel they would not make money and be able to maintain their boats. Which is understandable in a typical situation ... however I feel like due to road closures, evacuations, and most importantly safety this should have been a situation where a full refund would be allowable. They did give a partial refund which I appreciate. However I will not rent from them when we go back. read more

Worked here for the past three years. People I worked with down at the dock were genuine and hard working. The workers were really what make this place great. However the owner was a different story. He was very rude to workers and customers on a consistent basis. One day this summer a customer was sent out on a faulty boat and the owner said it was there fault for not inspecting the boat thoroughly enough before they left. These customers rented from him for 20 years, but he doesn't care. Another day he screamed at a worker for not cleaning correctly, firing her on the spot infront of other workers and customer nearly making her cry. Probably the worst thing that happend all summer was an employee pumped 16 gallons of gas into the rod holder on a boat. Filling the bottom of the boat with gas. Owner blamed the customer for his worker filling the bottom of the boat with gas. He wasn't willing to refund the $90 spent on gas to the person. When we were exposed to COVID-19 the owner was hesitant to give us days off to get tested. Thought it was a joke when were told to wear masks. Owners think they are rulers of the lake and can do what ever they want since they own so much property. This place could have such a better atmosphere if the ownership changed. I get making money and that it is a business, but the owner is willing to take things to far. Families come here to make memories and spend quality time with each-other. Do us all a favor and sell the Marina! read more
