We love this place...our saying that applies for us here is "The Lake is my Happy Place ". We have a seasonal site and the management-staff treat us wonderfully! We have wonderful neighbors and everyone around us are terrific...like a family our close neighbors. It's not a place to come if you're into loud or late night parties. However we always have a fun and relaxing time at our place on Lake Almanor. It's great for boating, kayaking, hiking, fishing, off road trails where you can truly get away....if you like these types of activities. Absolute worst campground I have ever stayed at. The customer service at this place is absurd! Went here with family and friends who traveled more than 10 hours to celebrate a 30th birthday, all I can say is I would NEVER recommend anyone to stay here! The second we got there we were treated disrespectfully, and that continues throughout the trip. Sites are crap, a patch of dirt which is over priced! Water and power were out our entire trip and they locked the bathrooms and said it was "not their problem" and if we wanted to leave they would charge us the entire amount plus a cancelation fee. Not to mention, this side of the lake is dirty, muddy, trash everywhere! 0/10 stars! Avoid at all costs if possible! It would be more convenient to sleep on the side of the road than this place! read more

Most important to note... there are new owners this year...the camp Nazi's of the last few years are gone! Yippeee! No rule suffocation now, so if you were discouraged by the experience the last 3 or 4 years...please come back and give it another try. You are going to love Charles, Teresa and the rest of the camp staff. Northshore Campground is the best place ever!!! We have been going for the past 17 years. Yes, sounds like a rut but it is that good. For those that say yuck to camping you, don't know what you are missing......yes there is dirt....but the facilities and the new owners make it wonderful. We spend 2 weeks tent camping, but if tents aren't for you bring a trailer or motorhome. They have the best bathrooms....CLEANED DAILY WITHOUT FAIL! I have done the coin operated showers...freezing cold water....or cement type....never going back. Do you ever run out of hot water... well I can say in 17 years only once...so not too bad. I avoid the busiest times....but that is a small sacrifice. There is a wonderfully stocked camp store, kayak rentals, lovely surroundings, great facilities...and did I mention the new owners? They are family-friendly and looking for ways to improve your camping experience. Access to Lake Almanor- swimming, boating, or beach sitting within minutes. Pets welcome at no extra charge! Can't wait to see what they add for next year's camping pleasure. read more

This was our first time at North Shore Campground! We've stayed at various campgrounds for years and this was a great experience. The staff was very helpful, professional and friendly. If I could give North Shore a negative it would be in the millions. We booked 2 camp sites and cancel them about 10 days later to book a nicer one so we thought, at North Shore. We called several times and emailed to get verification of our cancellation. We only received a machine that said they would return the our call. We never received a call back, a refund or an email from them. We called the day before our trip and spoke with Martha only to be told we would not get a refund. No apologies, no help what so ever. We drove to North Shore the next day ready to camp hoping we could get some where with this mixup in person. The management was soooo rude didn't want to hear what we had to say then asked to leave the property. On leaving , no refund was given or even suggested. I told the gal, being rude is going to get you bad reviews, she said "that's ok, we get lots of those". Then her coworker owner... or other... said "you better keeping moving or I'll drop the gate on you trailer". So professionalism diffidently isn't there strong suite. I felt I was back in Junior High with bullies who thought the world revolves around them. Never the less, I wouldn't go to North Shore , there not worth your time effort or funds.... Or anything else for that matter. Soooo , Sad such a beautiful place has such ugly people. read more

This has been our Memorial Weekend trip for the last 4 years. We have brought multiple families with us along the way. Due to covid, and my occupation, I am not able to leave NV this year. I cancelled 18 days in advance, but was told I would still be subject to cancellation fees. When I plead my case, I was hung up on. When I called back, I was hung up on again. These folks are raking it in on cancellation fees. I believe this company is under new management, and I won't return until it is under newer management. The sites are good, pump service is proprietary, front desk service is subpar. PS you guys just lost 4 first responder patrons due to your poor customer service. read more

Very rude in office. Had to cancel a friend at last minute. Still paid the fee for a week and then the campground rented it out. Would not give me any credit for the days they rented. Make sure you are quiet at 10:01 or the very rude hostess (security) thinks it is you. Were blamed for loud nights when we were not even there. They are not willing to even listen. I was having mixed feelings about this place because how can camping on lake's edge be bad? It was great being close to the water, but ultimately there was a bad experience and coupled with the high nightly rate for what you get, I had to go to two stars. Without the bad experience given by staff (see below) would have still done three stars. For 60 bucks a night, we're used to full hookups and manicured sites. When we pay 30-40, we're used to the dirt sites and inconvenient hookups offered here. First, the majority of good spots are season long rentals that are not available to you unless you want to stay for months. There are some exceptions, but the bulk of the remaining lake sites are crowded tent sites on top of each other. The majority of the remaining spots for rvs are sandwiched together with communal dining. Second, there is loose, fine dirt everywhere. What a mess. The season long sites are nicely manicured though, so take that. But based on how much you pay a night, 50-60, I think the place could spring for gravel to keep the dust down. Third, the portion of the lake you get to swim in is brown and filled with bugs. Fourth, there is only one bathroom near the rv sites, but it's a hike for the tenters who need it more than the rv'ers. Finally, the thing that sent me over the edge. The staff. They are super nice. Just really kind and giving people, even letting us borrow water toys...until they are "off duty," and want to have fun. I had the site next to the staff's party site. When they started setting up at 915 pm for a night of drinking, flood lights, bean bag toss, and country music so people across the lake could tap along, I got worried. I mean, I have no problem with them having a get together, but they set a 10:00 quiet time. So party before ten and be a good example, right? No. It was clear they were gearing up for an extended get together. Sensing my worry, the staffers made a point to let me know that ALL I had to do was let them know when I was going to bed and they'd wrap it up. HA! This comment was made BEFORE they got drunk. One staff guy, again sensing that we might be unhappy with their volume, walked right over to us uninvited to see why we're not enjoying their festivities. My friend said, isn't quiet time 10? To which the staff guy responded yeah, but if he's in charge of enforcing it and he'd rather drink, then who's going to make him stop? Special! When I told them I was going to bed, I was ignored. By 1130 pm I called the after hours noise number and of course it goes to the manager who is contributing to the noise with the party. I asked is there a cut off time for loud guests? She said ten and to let her know if she can make someone be quiet. YOU! They turned the music down to less than deafening but still loud with the bean bag marathon. The irony. They're in charge of enforcement but won't quiet themselves. By midnight, I'd had enough as they were only getting drunker and louder and laughing while they peed in bushes. I opened my trailer door and one of the party people's first reaction was to clasp her hands together and beg me for my time to enjoy their party. I want a refund for last night. read more

DO NOT RENT PADDLE BOARD FROM THIS GUY ! He charged me $ 100 extra, because of 2 scratches at the bottom of the board. I was not in charge of the board all of the time, and I'm 100 % positive that I'm not responsible for these scratches. By the way, the rental price is also expensive : $ 25 for one hour. Hard place for me to review. Went here with hubs and our favorite couple friends. We stayed in the quail cabin Friday thru Sunday for a quick weekend away. For the four of us this cabin was perfect. Two bedrooms, good size bathroom and plenty of living space. The lake was no where near the campsite, because of the drought of course. Understandable and nothing the campground could do about it, but it would have been nice for them to mention that on the website. Doesn't quite sound like a two star review right? Wellll. When we checked in we were told that the power might be off anytime between 6 and 6 the following day (Saturday-our only full day at the lake) 6 am, power went off. Water also doesn't work (well water I assume). Friends and I sucked it up, used the port-a-potty and went to Lassen for the day. Got back around 5, assumed power and water, and shower, and flushing toilet, and lights, and all the other things we spent our money to enjoy over the weekend on would be restored. Nope. We didn't have power or water until 730pm. No apology, no refund or possible free night for a future stay. We were extremely disappointed. I understand necessary repairs, but I'm quite sure that the managers knew about the situation before our arrival, and a little notice would have been very appreciated. We paid for a cabin and we got a full day of tent camping experience... Wish things would have been amended during our stay-definitely would have considered staying there agin. read more

I've stayed here three times in the last 2 years and always had a great experience. The staff is friendly and helpful. The campground is well-maintained. The facilities are clean and have always worked well. And the view is beautiful. Great for RV'ers or tent campers. A little pricey for a campground, but you sure get what you pay for =) read more

New ownership this year and the campground is a much happier place now. We have stayed at North Shore in the past with the old regime and the mood has changed for the better. We use to stay at Lassen View when it was still in business. This is the best all around campground at Lake Almanor. Well laid out campround that even the bigger RV's can get into easy at most sites. tent camping also available. Lots of pine trees and views of the lake, without being too overgrown like some camprounds in the area. No extra fees at this time for pets and visitors are welcome unlike in the past with the old owners. The new owners Theresea, Charles and the employees, ( Kerry) in particular are wonderful friendly camp hosts. Campground store is remodeled and the dreaded plastic security chain at the main entrance is no longer in use. Bathrooms are clean and the crowd tends to be families and older couples enjoying the area and the lake. Cabins ,boats, canoes and kayaks are available for rental. Will be back again next year and highly recommend this family and pet friendly campground at Lake Almanor. read more

The owners of this park need to re-evaluate their Husband/wife management team. The wife should NOT be dealing with the public. Her attitude seems to be how she can take advantage of the visitors, where as it should be " how can I make you happy". When we were checking in, another visitor was checking out and wanted a price adjustment because he was without power for 3 days. Her reply was NO, stating they have no responsibility when there is a power failure. The gentleman who started off polite, stated that when the power came back on he still had no power and asked several times for help. He repeatedly was told no and was very upset. This woman is not a nice person. She literally told me, my wife was a lire. A security deposit should be refunded at time of check out, however this B*&$h refused to refund me and refused to inspect the cabin to insure me I would receive a full refund. If you have any kind of problem make sure you deal with her husband he is very nice and helpful. read more

I'm re-rating this place after I got home and saw what each star means. I also wanted to note that after looking at a campground map other than the one they gave me at check in (they wrote on that map so I couldn't see that bathroom was a port-o-potty) I could see that they DO have it marked that the bathrooms at each end of the campground are port-o-potty bathrooms. Had the map that they gave me at check in or the campground website (not map) said that there is only one central "real" bathroom then I would have planned to stay near that instead of a port-o-potty. Unlucky for me I didn't notice that. The staff is nice and friendly and the lake is pretty. Look at my prior review for more information. read more

My immediate and extended family have been coming here for MANY years, but this year was the best! New ownership has changed this nice campground into an awesome campground experience. Improvements all around, and I can't say enough about how much nicer the new owners are as well as their staff. Just take a look at their website to see how beautiful the setting is...as always, but the amenities are #1 for family camping. I know a lot of people have returned through the years and wrestled with the decline of staff attitude, but don't hesitate to return now because it's the most welcoming and kind staff EVER! read more

I absolutely love this campground. To start off the staff is extremely pleasant & helpful. They were happy to answer my questions honestly and did not rush me. We originally had a reservation for next month but lucked out and got a spot from a cancelled reservation this past weekend and was great. For those of you who might arrive late like we did, approx 9:30 right before the gates lock at 10pm. The gates are always closed but since the office was also we had to wait to get buzzed in. Wasn't that bad just confusing since was our first time there. The next day Shelley one of the hosts even came to check on us at our campground worried we had not arrived and explained everything while bringing us a map & key card. She is super sweet and great at email correspondences also! We are already working on more reservations to return with her! They have a little store with more than plenty of items to grab if needed. Their bathrooms are very well maintained and clean! The beaches are nice & open, there is a little playground for the kids also. The sites all well taken care of & cleaned after. Even has shower & laundry on site. There is cell service and wifi there, I did not expect that. All in all wonderful spot! Looking forward to continuing to go back. read more

Just spent 4 days at this campsite and had a great time! The campground was kept nice and clean the entire time. The staff were all really helpful and really friendly. Particularly a woman named sarah who works there really helped us one day we were short a cooler and wanted to go on a boat ride, sarah was kind enough to let us borrow her personal cooler for the day! She also helped us the following day with our fishing licenses. One guy also came by and delivered wood right to our campsite! I also appreciated that they enforced the quiet time at night so I didnt have to worry about people being to loud to wake up my kids. The showers were AWESOME, especially with children. The playground was also a nice touch. Excellent time, outstanding staff. I cant wait to come back! The only complaint would be the lake was muddy and the sites are pretty close to each other. read more

We called to reserve pop up tent and lady who took reservation was pleasent. When we got there to check in there was confusion going on with 2 guests about their reservations. The ladies in the office looked lost and didnt know what was going on. Our tent was clean but this was our first time with a pop up trailer. When we asked how to make the double bed from the table they basicly said to "figure it out". They need to learn better customer service. The pop up was close to the bathrooms but a little too close, as we could hear everyone coming and going all day and all night long. read more

I made reservation to stay for little league all-stars. I was informed that I would lose my deposite if cancelled. Chester then changed the dates of the all-star games to a week sooner. When I called and tried to change my reservation they said no and I lost my entire deposite of $140.00! I have traveled all over the US visiting RV spots and have never heard of a 30 day cancellation policy. A bit extreme to me. When I spoke with the lady she was actually rude! I alsi lost the money to pay for my animals to stay there. I can uinderstand losing a deposite but eh entire amount and what I would pay for my animals to stay there! I DO NOT recommend this place! read more

We were here for 5 days in June. Great campground with great views of the lake. Was kept very clean and had very friendly staff. They were very helpful in getting its a last minute spot for family meeting us there. The store, playground, boat ramp were all great amenities to have. We will definitely be going back. read more

We just went to Northshore Campground for the first time. The campground was clean, the owners/staff were super friendly and over the top accommodating. The campground AND cabins are pet friendly, which was a major factor for us. The views are fantastic, and we had a great time watching the wildlife, including the blad eagles flying around! We stayed in the Manzanita cabin, which is the largest they have. It was wonderful! The kitchen had just about every dish, pot, pan, bowl, etc. that we could possibly need to do our cooking, and was really large. The house was clean, beds comfortable, and everything was very spacious. The is a nice covered deck out back with a BBQ. But the best part was the huge lawn area with a fire pit, and incredible views of the lake! It was right across from the playground too, which was great for our kids. This cabin is great for a large family and lengthy stays! Our friends stayed in the Chipmunk Cabin. For 2 adults and a teenager they felt it was a little small, and it's very close to the front gate, but the cabin was clean and well stocked. We did not have anyone camping in the sites, but we strolled around the campground. They had a number of RV sites, and the campsites looked nice. I'd agree with another reviewer that suggested more trash cans around the place would be convenient. And I would suggest making sure you don't get the sites next to the trash trailers, as the smell was horrible when we walked by! But otherwise, it's a great place and we intend on going back! read more

Booked 4 nights at North Shore Campground for RV camping partial hookups. No electricity which wasn't a big deal but the water also got shut off once because there wasn't power to pump the water out to the sites. Really we could've just paid for dry camping and not wasted money on paying for partial hook ups. Our biggest complaint was that it wasn't disclosed ahead of time that there's PARASITES in the shallow waters of the lake. The host told us this nonchalant on our second day there after we asked why not many people were down at the "beach" - after our kids and dogs had already been down there because we didn't know. Playground is blocked off for covid (understandable) and the store is almost always closed due to no power so you can rarely find anyone that works at the campground. A lot of the sites are on a narrow cliff so it's difficult to back in and also no where to tie dogs up at besides next to the fire pit at the rear of your trailer. Campsites aren't well kept or cleaned up after each guest (fire pit was full of old torched wood). We could've looked past a lot of things here, but finding out about parasites in the shallow waters of the beach after already paying and setting up camp was the hard stop for us. We left after only 1 night (no refunds for leaving early - many people did) and are definitely never going back here. Disappointed to say the least. read more

We stayed a month this year after a week's stay last year just wasn't enough. What a great time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We loved the views and the easy bike ride/walk or drive to Chester. The lake is, well, amazing. When we get tired of fishing, water skiing and swimming, there is always our nightly campfire to relax around before getting a good night's sleep. The campground has a well defined and well enforced set of rules that ensure a safe, quiet and orderly vacation. I will gladly trade the slight inconvenience caused by enforced "quiet times" after 10 PM and restrictive rules on dogs and visitors for some of NF campgrounds and PG&E camps around the area. Lake Almanor has been a family tradition for us for over 50 years. It is a well kept secret in northern California. If you have discovered this place, welcome- but do us a favor and don't spread the word -too far! read more

Such a mixed bag. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. First, the good: nice location and right on the water. The staff is very good: very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were nice: clean and nice showers. Second, the bad: very small, tight campsites. We had an rv site with hookups and we had our pop up trailer, a 4-man tent and managed to park a full sized van and pickup but we were really cramped and our neighbors on 3 sides were right there!! No privacy. Third, the Ugly: they provide tank pump out service at your site for those who dont want to tow their unit the very short distance to their dump station and OMG! The truck itself is noisy but that isnt the worst part: just as I was about to fix us a leisurely breakfast (approx. 10 am), the honey truck pulled up to our nextdoor neighbor and started to pump! We began gagging, grabbed our keys and fled to town for awhile! It was horrible! Absolutely disgusting! No warning either. Also, they dont enforce their rule about no dogs off leash. We experienced people a few sites over leaving their 3 large dogs in their trailer all day while they go off to do whatever. They come back and let the dogs loose to come run into our site to relieve themself. This happened twice. First time my husband asked the owner if he would bring his shovel and pick it up and the guy says, "how do you know it was my dog, did you see him do it?"!! Really? My hubby said yes. Guy picked it up. Second time, I had to alert the owner, who I know saw it but was trying to pretend she didnt and then she got offended that I summoned her over to take care of her pet. Called me a rude "bitch!" Beware, is all I can say. There were many dogs there and most were not a problem, but as usual, a few bad apples. read more

We stayed here for a weekend in mid Sept. We were really impressed. The staff was super helpful and very friendly. I really liked that the there was a security gate at the entrance, you were given a key card to use. Also the bathrooms had pin pad for security, which I also liked. We used a the propane fill up service and that was very easy to do. We also rented 2 Stand-Up paddle boards/kayaks and then 1 single kayak. They had 2 options 1 hour or $25 or all day for $80. We opted for all day, because 1 hour really wasn't enough. We were in site 39, the sites are a little close together. We got lucky because we had good neighbors all around us. Bathrooms were very clean, the showers were good pressure and temperature. They are pay showers, so you get 2 mins for $0.50. The water was low on the lake - probably for about 200 yards it was less than 4ft, so you can walk very far out there. The fire pits were large. Over all we had a very good weekend. read more

Such a lovely camp site on the lake. We took great walks and enjoyed the wildlife. Showers r paid with tokens which work great for my hubby but I just used our RV one. Bathrooms and showers clean. I love this place. 70 here so the great outdoors is so great!!!!!! Loved it so much we stayed 2 more nights. Took an easy drive to Lassen. Our last night and only the power at our site went out ,so my hubby moved us to another space. Next AM I want to the office and let them know what happened. I asked if we stayed one more night if she would give us a discount and she did. Lilly was so kind and professional to me yes we really love this RV camp ground on beautiful Lake Almanor. In general, I really liked North Shore Campground. The bathrooms were clean and modern (showers are included in the price!), the campsites were spacious and well-maintained, and it is in a great location on the lake. I called ahead of time to warn them that we would be arriving fairly late at night (around 9:30) due to our work schedules. They said that it was not an issue at all; they would leave an envelope with my name on it taped to the office door containing all necessary documents. When we arrived, it wasn't there. Not really a big deal, since someone probably just swiped it. I figured I would take care of it in the morning. The next morning, I went into the office/store to pay the rest of my fees and get a shower code. The middle-aged woman with highlights in her hair was pretty rude to us when I asked her for our shower code. How was I supposed to know that I could have just taken another brochure by the office? I asked a simple question and she gave me a snarky answer. Another girl who was younger was working in the store was much nicer and finished helping us, instead. The same thing happened when we were leaving. I went in to make sure there wasn't anything else we needed to do before we left and to return a book I had been reading the night before to the lending library (it was locked and past the time it was supposed to have been opened, so we couldn't do it ourselves), and she acted like I was seriously inconveniencing her because SHE forgot to unlock the lending library. She gave us a pretty condescending answer to my question about check-out, as well. I work at a different lake and I actually have the same job as she. I would NEVER speak to customers the way she spoke to my boyfriend and me. The campground was good, it just doesn't get five stars because of the incredibly grumpy and rude woman in the store. UPDATE: The same woman was much kinder this time, two years later. Perhaps she was having a bad day before. It was a bummer that we had to start paying for showers, but understandable. Something happened with the gate when we arrived and it locked earlier than it was supposed to, but one of the staff members was really helpful in letting us in! There were SWARMS of these weird green bugs everywhere when we arrived that night, especially around the lights, and she ran through a literal fog of these things to get us all of our information. I don't remember her name, but I am very appreciative of this woman's helpfulness! read more

Overall great campground. Our site was right on the water. The staff was friendly and it was nice to have the general store. There was one morning where every stall in the women's bathroom was out of toilet paper. For a family with small children I was frustrated that they don't enforce the quiet time of 10:00. A trailer next to us, which looked like it belonged to staff or someone staying for the summer, were up until 1:00 being loud and inappropriate language. It would have been nice if another staff could have handled the situation. Regardless the campsite was clean and nice. read more

Very nice campground! This campground is very well maintained and boasts the cleanest bathrooms in Lake Almanor. Also, it is a quick 35 minute drive into Lassen Volcanic National Park. Only gave 4 stars due to the fact we didn't have a nice beach there. This is not their fault as the lake is down quite a bit due to the drought.Would definitely return! read more
