I went on a 1/2 day charter with Captain Scott McDowell and had an absolute blast!! Scott is…read moreextremely knowledgeable about the ocean and has been fishing in Menemsha for years. His boat fits up to six people, offering half day tours at a price that is well worth the money. After a day on the water Scott happily cut up our catch, making them easy to take back to the house and cook up. Scott does bring out a first mate with him to help with fishing. This mate makes his money from tips alone, so please take that into consideration at the end of your trip!

Went on a 1/2 day charter for approx $700. The weather was a little rough and we were debating…read moregoing out at all but Capt McDowell convinced us to go saying emphatically that "you will catch fish!" Well I guess he was technically correct because between four of us we caught a little sea bass and a small schoolie but that was it. As soon as the time was up he couldn't get back the the docks fast enough. He never said anything about his promise to catch fish and didn't offer any kind of a discount to come back and try again some time in the future. Another thing to consider is that uses wire lines which may be the preferred method for commercial Striper fisherman but not necessarily the best option if you are fishing for sport. On the plus side, he can take the boat out on a moments notice because he doesn't have a 1st mate and he seemingly doesn't need to do any kind of preparation other than gassing up the boat. One person in our group had also reached out to Tomahawk charters. Capt Vanderhoop's first mate called us back that morning to find out if we were still considering going out because they would need to gets baits together which tells me they prepare for the charters they take out. (Also, I don't believe Tomahawk uses wire lines) Unfortunately we had already committed to Capt. McDowell and felt obligated to go with him. McDowell's equipment looked kind of old and poorly maintained (all the rods had the same silver spoons on them with rusty hooks). In my opinion this guy lost interest a long time ago and is just mailing it in. Sorry, but if you are going to spend this kind of money I would consider looking elsewhere...

It all started when I was searching for a center console and Skip, the owner, was brokering a boat for a client of his. He was up front and honest with me about the pros and cons of the boat, and made sure that I realized it was a true fishing boat. Skip and his team went out of their way to make my buying experience easy. From the survey and sea trial to the delivery he worked with me and my wife to ensure we were informed and answered any and all questions that you would expect from first time boat owners like us. The delivery was a chance for me to help pilot the boat from its home port to my mooring. Skip had his son go along with me to coach and guide me on the voyage. It was a great trip and I really appreciated the help. We will definitely look to Skip and his team to help us once we graduate from our current boat to a bigger one.

He replied, "OHH WOWWWW you can afford more than that you are driving a Maserati"!!!! I was like WTF! This was totally unprofessional and rude. He acted like a total jerk and kept bring up my car! Anyway, we left that place and headed for a bite in Newport. We asked a few people in the restaurant about Skip from Brewer Street. They all said RUNNNNNNNNNNNN he is not friendly and truly a condescending man! I will never go back to that place again! Just ask the locals about SKIP!

I will give him credit too, because we encountered a lot of bad drivers and he kept his composure, when I probably wouldn't have. The tour is nice, but not something I can give 5 stars to. Nothing was necessarily wrong or bad about it, it just didn't quite pop with me. A lot of what is presented his classroom type stuff. Mileage may vary, but for me this was more a 'B' tour if we were using school grades.

They also tried to say I wasn't on their tour, so I am posting proof here that it was their tour I was on for sure, (assuming I can post a photo of their email when I get done with this part.) Here is the review: "Tour was just okay. We didn't stop at things people clearly wanted to stop at and there was a lot that no one cared about. The driver (my wife said his name was Richard) was anxious to get through the tour because there was so much to see in 3 hours... I'm like, okay then let's stop at the stuff people want to take pics of and blow off the rest of this crap. He also zoomed by and barely slowed down long enough to take a photo of something other than the back of the hand of the person sitting in front of you... the hand that was still there because they didn't have time to take a pic either. The driver also talked about Obama and Clinton the ENTIRE tour. I lost count at 8 stories. (This is not an exaggeration.) (Owner denied this could be true... ask anyone else who was on this tour... and I'm sure he uses these stories consistently.) I'm not a staunch anti-dem, but this was simply ridiculous. If Obama ever comes to a sudden stop this guy's head will end up mid-colon or so. Surgery might be necessary. Anyway, I would try a different one if I were you. Tries to pack in too much." (Owner also said they never wanted me to book with them again... lol, pretty sure I wasn't going to?)
