I have to preface this review by saying that I'm literally the dumbest person on earth when it comes to fixing things in the house. I couldn't be any worse at it. I am Homer Simpson building a spice rack- only worse. Our garbage disposal crapped out this week. I texted Steve, who was already near my house. He said he'd swing by and take a look right then and there. He came over and found the reset button. The disposal now works again. He didn't even charge me for the 3 minutes of service required to prove that I'm a total dunce. Terrible experience, if you're someone who wants professional work done in a timely fashion, then stay away. The guy came to my house in September to do an estimate for basement restoration work. A month plus later, I still haven't gotten any kind of estimate or scope of work. I've communicated with him several times and have been given the run around about how he's busy and hasn't had time to complete my estimate. During each communication, he's promised to send over the estimate in a "few days" however he never followed through. If he couldn't complete the work or didn't have time, he could have simply said that. Very unprofessional and frankly a waste of time. read more

Steve Leviton and his staff did a great job for us. After years of suffering with a leaking shower, we decided to update our master bathroom. The job was tricky, because we needed a complete re-installation of our walk-in shower, but we wished to coordinate its design to complement existing tile and trim throughout the rest of the bathroom. That also required several "minor" cosmetic changes in the master bath to make the room both beautiful and functional. Steve gave us a very competitive bid (beating out two others and including much more work) and also helped us make decisions about materials and design throughout the project. Here's what they did: complete tear-out of existing walk-in shower, re-built brand new walk-in shower (installation of concrete floor base and mosaic tile floor, 12 x 12 tile walls and ceiling), custom built-in wall "shelf", built corner shower seat, new plumbing for centered drain, installed rain shower, detachable hand shower on sliding bar, solid surface shower threshold, shelf base, and seat top, created access panel for existing spa tub, new plumbing and trim for spa tub and double vanity sinks, removal of old vanity lighting and installation of new vanity lighting, removal of old ventilation fan and installation of new ventilation fan, painted bathroom walls, trim, and ceiling. Steve also recommended Glenbrook Glass to build and install new custom glass walls and shower door - they also did a great job. Steve was readily available at all stages of the project, guiding my selection and purchase of fixtures, lighting, fan, etc. that were appropriate for the size of the room and my needs. On two separate occasions, he ran out to pick up samples of materials and went back to my home to put them in the room and sent me photos, so I could pick colors and materials while I was at work or out of town. (Those were items I was supposed to choose and purchase, but he did the running around for me to accommodate my work/travel schedule.) Above and beyond! Because of the larger job, Steve also gave me a great bid for a small side-job: removal of an old decrepit vanity in my guest bathroom and installation of a new one, and a repair of the guest bath toilet. Wait, there's more! Before starting the bathroom project, Steve began the job of replacing some broken rotted wood beams on our large outdoor deck. We soon discovered that there was much more rot than we could see from above on our 20 year old deck. With my approval, Steve and his carpenter took the deck down right to its original frame, replacing and/or building everything, including built-in seating. A few of the fence beams had to be replaced too, but he saved the pickets. Then cleaning and sealing. Our "old" deck is now essentially brand new and should last us another 20 years. Absolutely beautiful carpentry work! Bottom line: Steve does excellent work and his staff is versatile. Plumbing, construction, carpentry, painting. We've lived in Deerfield for almost 29 years but only were introduced to Steve and NSHI a few months ago, as we were prepping our house for sale. We had a series of small repairs and tasks, some that came up in the middle of showing the house and so were urgent. Steve was extremely responsive, sometimes taking care of the issues on the same day. Even more important, the quality of the work was consistently excellent, whether carpentry, screen repair, plumbing or electrical.
