I would definitely recommend this place for your pool services. I've had a pool for over 30yrs and we had used the same pool company for just as long. But last year we had an issue with are pool for the first time and this company tried many different times to resolve and even when they said they tried everything it still didn't work right. So we closed the pool for the summer without ever using it for the first time since we've had it. This year we called a new company to open our pool and gave them the history of last year. They started up our pool but it still was not working right. Called this company back for service and they couldn't come for almost 2 weeks. Ended up calling North Shore and they said they could come the next day. Once again I explained the issue and they believed it was "this". They even suggested I could clean or check this first so not to waste my money for them to come if it was that. But I felt ill equipped and not as knowledgeable so preferred their expertise to confirm. So they came and took a look. After tinkering around etc it seemed they figured it out. They said if we have replacement parts in stock we'll replace. They called back later that day, said they did and would be back tomorrow. Pool has been working great ever since. And their prices were completely reasonable compared to the other 2 companies we used which were a bit outrageous, well at least the 1st company mentioned was. We already hired North Shore to close are pool and plan to hire them to open are pool as well next year. read more

Went in June to have water tested. Kid says you need 50 pounds of alkaline - since then the PH will not come down after daily testing and more chemicals. Never had a problem with the pool prior to having them mess it up. Every pool company has told us that this place is known for selling wrong products to drive up the cost of additional products to fix the mistakes they made. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE - THEY ARE A SCAM. read more

I have leaks in my in-ground pool, probably in the return lines from the filter. In the fall I called to to set up a repair, they said they could come in April. After my calling again in April, when they said they had no record of my previous request,CJ did come. He said a valve on my filter was leaking and needed to be replaced, about a week to order it. Also because we suspected line leaks to be in the lines, we removed the plugs to see if the water level dropped with the system not operating when he returned with the part. Three weeks passed, no part. I called and they said they didn't have my credit card number on file, which was wrong because they had used it to charge me for the service call. They ordered the part and came to install it when I wasn't home. They didn't open the cover to see if the water level had dropped (it HAD). So after 2 visits and hundreds of dollars, my problem isn't solved. read more

I've had a great experience with Chris and team. We bought a spa last summer (delayed until December due to COVID, which Chris was up front about). During the sale Chris answered every question I had and ran me through step by step the maintenance requirements (I've never owned a spa before). He didn't push for extra purchases either When they came to deliver it the guys were very personable and answered MORE of my questions and even moved the spa again when I decided it wasn't close enough to the house. I've had to call a couple times since then with questions and always get someone nice on the phone who takes the time to help me without sounding hassled. I don't like them and I'm still using them! They are the only place that have somehow reasonable price to blow the line only when winterizing. Many places want to do the all things only with big money. However, last time they came, they added service I didn't ask, they cleaned the filter, and they overcharge, added $139 from previous year. When you reserve winterizing they don't send you an email with the job description, and when your credit card is charged you don't have any email/invoice of which products they used, service applied, just the total cost showing up on credit card. When they call couple of days before to confirm they don't mention the job they will do. They also use badly a hammer on a screw driver the previous year to remove some plastic fixture, and yes, permanent and replaceable parts were broken or damaged and still no note/txt or call from them about it. read more

This place is a total ripoff. Constantly overcharging and pushing chemicals you don't need. Switched to a new service this year and our pool had been sparkling clean all summer and saved hundreds! Only wish I had figured it out sooner. read more

We called asking for our pool to be partial opened and specifically asked to let us know when they arrived so that we can see what happens during the equipment inspection as we just bought the house and would like to learn the system. I called at the end of day assuming nobody came, and I noticed I was charged. Was told they knocked on the side door around noon , I have guests in the room and very clearly that did not happen. I also have a phone and working doorbells, which clearly wasnt attempted either, I definitely would have heard the front door knocked as well. Not happy that they didnt notify me or give me any sort of report following the visit, nor installed all pool equipment. I have no idea what was actually done during the visit besides turning the pump on. People I called in the office clearly did not care, was told some information gathered onsite but it's apparent they werent onsite for more than 5minutes as our guests came a few minutes after their arrival time. Witnessed him talking down to other people, and what a coincidence that 3 other people were in for the same problem as me with something bought from here. Horrible customer service. I normally go here to get my pool water tested but wont be going back anytime soon after a recent experience at the store. One of the employees, might have been the owner, wouldnt give me my test results unless i spent money at the store. I told that I will buy some stuff but that for larger things I am going to ocean state job lot because it cost less. He then yelled at me and told me that they dont test peoples pool water for them to go buy products at other stores and that it cost's them money to test my water (even though this service is FREE) I was a little bit shocked that I was being forced into buying their products when I could be saving money and buying it for much less somewhere else. I will never go back to this store ever again and advise others to do so as well. NO ONE should ever be forced to buy things in a store they cant afford because they had their water tested for FREE!! read more

While I'm thrilled that Annie L (review from 5/20/2018) had a great experience, it has been the opposite for my husband and me. I am DEFINITELY not a competitor, & having read some of the other reviews, I'm not alone in feeling this way. I believe this is my 1st Yelp review, and it's a novel. If you don't have time to read it all, let me save you the trouble. FIND SOMEONE ELSE. I agree with the four negative reviews below- rude customer service, push products that you don't need, and overpriced. Not worth it- find ANYONE else. We have been using this company since we bought our house in 2013, because they serviced the pool for the previous home owners. I'm ashamed to admit that we have wanted to use a different business since 2014 but didn't out of sheer convenience. The 2nd season with them we started to have problems. There were a series of little but annoying things that happened. For example, when they opened the pool, they accidentally broke our automatic vacuum cleaner and never told us. Additionally, they serviced a piece of equipment, charged us, and never told us what they did. I had to call to ask, and Chris Callanan (the owner) made it seem like an inconvenience. I guess just randomly charging triple digits to a customer's credit card on file is normal for them- so BEWARE. Also, when they sent the receipt, the charges were for both time and equipment, and I don't believe they were truthful about the time- they didn't know I was in the house (night shift worker). Also, when they closed the pool, one of the cement steps broke off. Not their fault at all, it was bound to happen, but again- they didn't tell us. AND that particular closing, they didn't turn the power to the pump off, so it started running when the pool was closed- which probably caused damage (we have since replaced the pump). Another time I called to ask a question, and because the shop was closing, Chris cut me off- he literally did not help me because it was 6pm (for the record, that was annoying of me but I didn't do it on purpose, and I had never done it before and would NEVER do it on purpose). Additionally, we buy all of our chemicals through them and have never once questioned them on it (combo of trust & convenience). 2 seasons later Chris tells us we are supposed to add chemicals to the pool in the off-season, and when I innocently say we didn't know that, he insisted that he told us (he didn't), and then was annoyed when I asked for instructions on how to pull the pool cover back to do so. 4 seasons later Chris tells us we should be using a chemical I've never heard of before and doubles-down on the ridiculous notion that he told me this before. Um. Hello- we buy the chemicals you tell us to, I have never once purported to know anything about this pool, WTF would I NOT get something that I should? But he insisted he told me- which was infuriating. Which brings me to my final point. For the last 3 years every time he speaks to me, Chris Callanan- the OWNER- talks down to me. Another review actually says he did the same thing- so I guess it's not just me. I'm not sure why- while I clearly don't know anything about pools, I don't believe I generally ask the same questions. I NEVER am anything but respectful. I started communicating by email as much as possible to alleviate the stress (I repeat, I should have just switched companies so much of this rage is regret and anger at myself). The straw that finally broke the camel's back was just this season. My husband & I were curious about replacing the dying heater in 2017. From the 2017 original email on heaters: "They vent differently and would not use the chimney through the roof but would instead vent out through the side of the shed. We would also need to use an adapter to allow it to be vented from indoors and this would add about $200." Due to the cost, we decided to postpone. This February 2018, I sent an email to Chris to purchase a replacement pool heater that we had first discussed (by email!) the year before. In the 2018 email he says "Labor to install and the adapter kit would be added later when the work was done." When they came and "installed" the heater, and my husband was physically present. They never gave any indication it wasn't ready, & as you can read above, there was no indication from my emails that there would be issues with installation. The day before my son's 1st bday pool party in which we had 20 people travel from NJ to use what would normally be a frigid pool- we realize it's not fully installed. And when my husband called, Chris said, "We told your wife. It just must not have sunk in." And in the end, it cost $2500 more than we originally allotted to have a plumber and electrician install it. If you don't have time to read this all, let me save you the trouble. FIND SOMEONE ELSE. Purchased a spa and winter pool cover from them last year and have them open/close pool. Also just started having them as test water and purchasing chemicals as their testing and readouts are fantastic and easy to follow. From my experience with several stores in the area, these guys are the best in terms of giving sound and rational advice and standing behind their products. They don't try and sell you something you don't need and their prices are in line with other physical store fronts in the area. Additionally, we had some minor issues with our spa cover and Chris followed through with making sure everything was as it should be. My measure of a great company is how they perform when something goes wrong....these guys promptly address the issue, take care of it, and see it to completion. For that, I will be a customer as long as they are there. It is great to be able to purchase locally instead of on-line or elsewhere for the value they are providing. read more

On Memorial Day weekend, we brought a filter hose to be fixed to the store. We told by the owner, Chris Callanan that they "only service their customers." He then went on to say he looked us up in the computer and we had "spent $12 on chemicals in the past 5 years" that he could not help us. Not the best way to encourage *new* customers to come to the store. read more

I have been a service customer of North Shore Pools for over 4 years, having them close my pool at a cost including chemicals of over $400. This year, as in all previous years, I made an appointment a month in advance and requested the first closing so that I could be there to observe what was done. They asked for and received a confirmation a week in advance. They failed to show up and I called asking for an approximate time for their arrival. Rather than be helpful and understanding that I had been waiting for over two hours from when they start, I was given a difficult time by their service department. I asked to speak to their owner Chris who called and told me that since I was not happy with how they were now treating me and I did not buy chemicals from them, I should never call them again. Can you believe that? It seems that you are a lot less of a customer and do not deserve courteous treatment if you do not give them all of your business? read more
