The gentleman that helped us went above and beyond in explaining where to go given the current conditions and even recommending going to a different section at high tide later in the day to see even more fish. We could not have had a better experience. I tried to go back later to thank him for taking such wonderful care of us but alas he was no longer there. They will tell you to the best set up for sharks cove and the nearby tide pools. We were more prepared than most of the other groups snorkeling because of it and ended up helping others out. I expected it to just be a rental place, but their shop made Sharks Cove feel like a destination. Liam was also kind enough to recommend us great sightseeing spots and food spots to check out that worked with our schedule. We had such a wonderful experience at North Shore Surf Shop, and it was all thanks to Christian. From the moment we walked in, he greeted us right away with a huge smile and so much enthusiasm. It was our first time visiting the island, and he immediately made us feel welcome. When we mentioned we were new to the area, he walked us over to the map and took the time to explain the different spots around the North Shore and where we should go. Christian was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many helpful tips and pointers. You could tell he truly knew what he was talking about, and he explained everything in a way that made us feel confident and excited to explore. He really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience and left the shop feeling prepared. The most impressive part is that we later found out he had just started working there and is only 17 years old. The level of professionalism, knowledge, and genuine kindness he showed at such a young age is remarkable. The owners of North Shore Surf Shop are very lucky to have him on their team, and we wanted to make sure his effort didn't go unnoticed. The shop itself has everything you need for a fun day exploring the island. We rented snorkel gear for $20 each for the day, which was such a great deal. We also added life vests for $10 each, which gave us extra peace of mind while we were out in the water. They also have lockers available for $10, which was super convenient for storing our belongings while we were out snorkeling. The entire rental and return process was very smooth and seamless. My bestie and I were in town for a destination wedding. Why not get some good fun in the sun in North Shore while we're at it? I searched for a Groupon, but wasn't sure if I should buy North Shore Surf Shop lessons since I wasn't sure what their availability was. I called up the shop and was told to call boss, Liam. Liam was awesome! He got back to me right away and spoke of the many options bestie and I can do. He gave us an option to come out early to snorkel with our own gear, then have a private 2:1 surf lesson with a stand up paddle boat tour. The private surf lesson included all we needed (rash guard, soft top board & private instructor). The SUP tour included the board and tour guide. We were delighted to know he had an instructor for us even at such last minute. North Shore Surf Shop is super easy to find. Pass Pupukea Road (stop light) and slow down as you pass Foodland. The parking lot is the next paved driveway to the right situated across from Sharks Cove. We checked in and signed the disclosure forms with Grayson and rented a $10 locker since there are a lot of thefts there. We had THE BEST time with our North Shore Surf Shop instructor, Slade! Ask to surf with Slade and you're in for a treat. You will be learning with one of the most kindest, classiest passionate world class surfer on earth. He was always so encouraging and patiently waited for the best wave to conclude our lesson. We had a lunch break where my friend and I went to get some local grinds and meet Slade for our sunset Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) lesson. Once again, his instructions were great and he allowed us to remain on our knees until we were comfortable to stand. I've never seen so many sea turtles in my life.
