Visited this darling boutique while up at the North Shore. The other reviewers write about all things snorkling and surf, but the shop we were in, which I believe is next door, had a great variety of women's clothing (dresses, bathing suits, cover-ups, t-shirts) candles, jewelry, local art, beach towels, and men's clothing. The sign outside and on my receipt said, North Shore Surf Shop Boutique but on Yelp, only the North Shore Surf Shop comes up; hence the reason I am adding my review here. The young lady working that day, Porsche, said the shop just reopened having moved from a few doors down. Porsche was super friendly and helpful. She caught on that I am a jewelry person and brought out many pairs of earrings from local artists that were part of the inventory and not on display. I loved them all! Ended up buying a pair of gold hoops with a shell dangling in the center and gold chains hanging from the bottom. So unique and beautiful. Great reminder of our North Shore excursion. We had lots to do that day so I didn't have the time to check out the clothing or beach stuff, so will be back for sure! Make sure to stop in when you are in the area. They had a sale going on so all of their custom. North Shore items were buy three and get five dollars off each item- which I thought was a really great deal especially since the the price all over the island for anything that said Hawaii was in that same price point. They had a variety of designs for young kids up to adults. I did notice they copied the rainbow stripe at the Aviator a Nation Store down the street so that's one of the reasons why I didn't think their creativity earned 5 stars. read more

THE BEST SURF SHOP ON NORTH SHORE! This cute shop is located conveniently right across the street from the popular snorkeling spot, Shark Cove, and surrounded by delicious food trucks. My girlfriend and I came here to purchase and rent some gear for our snorkeling adventures. Matt and Duff were AWESOME, super funny, and informative. They told us about all the best spots within and outside of the cove to snorkel at. The rest of the crew were also super friendly people and gave us non-locals great tips about the island. Prices here were also super affordable! I was shocked by how much they didn't up-charge their stuff. The staff here also made the entire rental process super easy and fast! Great customer service! First and foremost, I haven't been on Yelp for very long. The reason why I signed up was because all of my girlfriends kept egging me to create an account and join. And to be honest, I'm not the type to write and post reviews online either. HOWEVER, with that said, it wasn't until the other day, Wednesday, when I realized how much this store went above and beyond for me, I figured THE VERY LEAST I could do is give it its much deserved praise. THIS IS MY FIRST REVIEW ON YELP, BTW. This past week I had been trying to buy hard copy CDs of Landon McNamara's new album, A Dollar Short & A Minute Late. AMAZING singer. "Everybody" is my fave track on there. I dig "Don't Go Away" a whole lot too, but listening to this guy sing acoustically does it for me. He's ridiculously talented. If he sang Niall Horan's "Slow Hands," -- exact same guitar rift, beat, and everything BUT his (Landon's) voice-- it'd be game over. Anyways, if you like reggae or super chill music, this album will do exactly that for you. Back to the story-- Landon's official website showed that all of his CDs were sold out. I went on Amazon, and they only sell the download, which I already have. I Google'd "'A Dollar Short & a Minute Late' CD", "'A Dollar Short & a Minute Late' hard copy album'", and just any other words I could think of to find it, but all I got was nothing. On Landon's website North Shore Surf Shop is featured on there. I go to the site and I don't see his CD as an item they sell online. Just to double check I call the store. THEY HAVE HIS CDs!!!! Even though it was not being sold online, they took my order over the phone, and it didn't even take more than 5 minutes to do! Short and fast. Kept it super simple which I liked. Here's the best part: Are you ready for this?? LANDON WAS THERE AT THE STORE!!! They got him to sign my CDs (one was for me, the other was a birthday gift), and Landon personalized them with little notes too! (See below) Landon was such a legend to sign my CDs. Huge shoutout to Greg who took my order, kept the transaction process simple, and sent me pics of Landon signing! Talk about customer service, right?!! Beyond stoked for what had happened to me the other day. I truly appreciate the customer service, CANNOT WAIT to get my purchased CDs, and am already thinking about making another purchase at that store. This place is a pretty cool little shop. I wanted to post a review so that people know it's open for business, and pretty neat, but even now, I plan on going back once they are completely "settled." When Alexi and I were driving by, it had two things about it that made us stop: 1) Sale signs, and 2) It was close to the ice cream shop we like in Haleiwa. When we pulled into street parking right across the street, I was a little surprised by all the people heading over to it. We walked in, and the place was pretty packed. I guess other people like sales, too. They had a buuuunch of stuff, such as clothes and knick-knacks. I saw a few surfboards for sale, as well. Inside, there is some actual surf stuff, like leashes, etc. Upon closer inspection, the stuff (mostly clothes) there had different brandnames/tags--a lot of the stuff they were clearing out was "Planet Surf," which was the name of the old place that used to be there, I suppose. I spoke to one of the owners, as I'm nosy, and he said they were still moving in. His name was Liam, I believe, and he seemed like an okay guy. He was nice enough to talk story with us for a few minutes, which was cool because they were pretty busy, and he took the time to make a personal connection. Right now the sales are crazy good, so if you want a North Shore T-shirt or gift, that's a good place to go. I will be back, as I like to support local, and I like sales. I hope they have more surf-related stuff, honestly, but I understand that tourists buy T-shirts, etc. It's a pretty big shop, so I can't wait to see what they do with the whole big space. read more

Rushed home from the beach to get snorkel gear for the next day but we were turned away at 6:50pm and told to come back the next day. When we returned in the morning we were asked to "straighten our car" because we were over the line (mind you the lot was empty) and told that everyone from our party needed to be present to rent. Then told that we needed swim socks to snorkel at sharks cove and would charge $10 more per person for fins so that we could snorkel in other spots. We were then given some kind of local "leaf" as an anti-fogger. Asked us to pay cash, had to go to other building to pay by credit card. They "forgot" to include my chair rental so had to make another payment. No bags for gear. Chairs were very worn and one had mold in the pockets. Upon return at 7pm was told I should have come by 6pm, but was given no direction/receipt with return information. Really felt no aloha and paid $265 for 3-day rental of 5 snorkels and 2 chairs. All minor hiccups but they added up quickly particularly because it felt like we were "bothering" them. read more

Wow! Amazing customer service, and value above and beyond. Seth was especially accommodating, helpful, and creative. We showed up to rent stand up paddle boards, but we didn't have a rental car because we rode the bus. He made some recommendations, and in the end we came up with a plan that works for us. He even came to get us in the pouring rain! We were able to use the changing rooms, as well as the lockers to store all our small backpacks while we had an amazing day on the water. For sure, six out of five stars!!! The other workers there were also especially friendly, and eager to help. If I had $200 to spend, I would've spent it there. But thankfully I didn't need to be a big spender to have an awesome day because of North Shore surf shop! read more

So I'm a fan of North Shore, the Haleiwa area, and supporting locals. This store is built along those same lines. It's basically a T-Shirt shop, but the shirts are locally designed (by the store owner) as are the hats and tank tops. They also have some local jewelry and various items. I really appreciate the effort and customer service at North Shore Surf Shop. I just wandered in there after walking around the stores nearby to see if they offered surf lessons. The girl who was helping me called their different instructors to see if anyone was available and she gave a quick overview of what the lesson entailed. A lot of them weren't available which I totally understood because I just walked in. Then Wakita offered to do the surf lesson if their boss was okay with him leaving the store to do the lesson because he was working in the store at the time doing store associate things. Thankfully their boss allowed him to because Wakita is thee best! He took me and my bf to this beach that didn't have a lot of surfers so it was nice and not crowded. He was a great teacher! I was able to catch almost all of the waves! He did a really good job at explaining things and gave feedback if I fell to explain why I fell. I almost feel like I can go try surfing on my own. It was a really great time and my highlight of my Hawaii trip. If you're looking for a lesson I highly recommend Wakita! He was great! He's super friendly and comfortable to hang with during the lesson. It really felt like a real surf lesson and not like those gimicky feeling lessons on Waikiki beach. Those lessons kind of felt like they were for if you wanted to flex for the 'gram. But these with Wakita felt legit. I really learned a lot and from a pro surfer nonetheless! I don't know anything about pro surfing but Wakita has a poster of himself on the counter and I thought that was cool. Even though he's a pro, it's not intimidating to have lessons from him. Super friendly! 1000% recommend! Note about the payment, the first half is in store you can pay with card but the second after if cash only after your lesson but they do have an ATM in the store if you don't have enough cash on you. read more

I came to the North Shore on vacation with my family. We surf but we're not a bunch of hardcores so we didn't come with our own boards and we really didn't know where to go. Based on other Yelp reviews I drove from out rental house into Haleiwa to find this shop and I'm really glad I did. The two store managers, Seth and Trevor, were amazingly helpful (!!!!!!), the staff wonderful and the store immaculate. The guys at this surf shop lived up to their 5-star reviews. I highly recommend them for anyone needing a surf shop when visiting the North Shore. read more
