I haven't been feeling well for a while and yesterday I hit a new low. I hadn't thought about going anywhere until I stopped by CVS to pickup some prescriptions. I noticed there was next to no wait at the MinuteClinic and decided to sign in. The sign in process was easy and it was great to see that you can now schedule your appointment and save your place in line without waiting. I was greeted by the nurse practitioner named Danielle. She listened to all of my concerns and was super friendly with a great bedside manner. Within about 10 minutes (would have been less if I wasn't so talkative) she figured out the problem and sent the prescription right away to the pharmacy onsite. It was an easy transaction and I am grateful for the convenience during a time where I truly felt terrible and would not have wanted to wait hours to be seen. I highly recommend it. We were seen by a PA who was clear and confident in diagnosing my son's injury, which required stitches behind his ear. She mentioned that she hadn't eaten all day because she had been so busy, which really highlighted just how much demand they were dealing with. She did a great job with the stitches and took the time needed to make sure we fully understood the discharge instructions. I felt that the quality of care was very good, and ultimately, that's what matters most. I'm giving 4 stars because the care itself was excellent, but the facility clearly needs more physicians and staff to better meet the demand and reduce the lengthy wait times.

This is not an indictment of the Landmark Medical Center or the staff that works there. I am not in…read moretheir shoes. ER workers work long hours and are frequently understaffed. This is an indictment of a deeply flawed medical system. That being said, I first went to the ER at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, RI. It wasn't life or death, but I was having trouble getting a new PCP and I didn't know what else to do. I had had diarrhea for more than a week, and I was worried that it might be sepsis; I had been in the hospital with sepsis for four days years before and had initially brushed it off as a bad cold. I was given a cbc blood test. and fluids. and advised to follow up with a GI who turned out to be unavailable, as well as a recommendation for a fodmap diet and probiotics. Other than being unable to see a gastroenterologist, everything seemed fine. However, I had bitten my tongue and lip repeatedly on my job, which I thought would heal on its own. I really don't like to visit doctor's offices or hospitals. When it seemed that my wound was getting worse instead of better, I went back to the ER to have it looked at. I was given a couple of prescriptions and sent home. One or two days later I noticed my tongue was swollen. Talking was painful, as well as eating and drinking. I was given an antibiotic and a shot of cortisol for the swelling as well as an anti-inflammatory. I also had a lot of canker sores which was making eating, drinking, and speaking painful. The steroid injection caused me to start having sharp pains in my mouth and throat which I am still having, plus I have noticed something that may be acid reflux. I've probably had it before, but not this bad. The acid keeps my mouth from healing and I can't see a doctor for it because I no longer have insurance. Again, I don't want to demonize the hospital staff. Our healthcare system needs to be restructured so that it functions as a vital service rather than a corporation.

I waited long hours to be told they could do nothing for me. I checked MYSELF out, and went to Miriam, where the care is so much better. What a shame. I only live a couple of blocks away, it's convenient, but I'd rather do the travel time and go to Miriam or Rhode Island hospital.

If I could give zero stars to MinuteClinic I would. I took my toddler to the MinuteClinic because…read morehe had recent onset flu-like symptoms and I didn't want to wait at a real urgent care or ED. The NP at the MinuteClinic told me my kid didn't need a flu test, but after my insistence (I am a physician myself and was sure he had the flu), the NP finally gave in. The flu test was indeed positive for the influenza B strain and it was early enough in my son's course for him to benefit from Tamiflu. They took my insurance and had me pay my copay. Everything seemed okay, right? 3 weeks later I get a bill of $170 despite my insurance, including an incorrect double charge for the rapid flu test. I figure, not a problem, I will call billing and get this straightened out. Here is where MinuteClinic needs to be investigated by the media and legislators, because it is impossible to reach a human being on their only customer service line at 1-866-389-2727. I waited 2 hours, only to be hung up. The next day, I call again, and immediately the transfer to billing goes straight to voicemail (!). I leave a message and was never called back. I try again the next week and the same thing happens. I can't for the life of me reach a human being despite asking for billing, customer service, supervisor, etc etc. Worst still is two months later, I get a third-party collections notice for this bill. It too has the same number for me to call to resolve the bill 1-866-389-2727. I still can't reach a human being to this day. I can only gather that this is done intentionally so that when patients receive a collections bill and cannot reach any human to resolve legitimate issues with the bill, we then are forced to pay the bill in full so as not to hurt our credit scores. Even trying to pay the bill took 1 hour of waiting on the phone. This is a disgrace and should be illegal. Never again will I go to or recommend any of my patients to go to MinuteClinic for the convenience. You will pay for it later in the sheer frustration of being unable to resolve a legitimate billing issue with a real human being and taken to collections anyway.
