Todd came prepared for the project review, provided better ideas (design, products, etc.) and qualified them with his past experience, product enhancements (of his own design) and with his knowledge of products I already have been using and was very familiar with. North Star does big, serious and complex designs and installations for large homes and estates. My home and my project were both modest (by comparison) and he never treated me or my project any differently. I was given a clear estimate for the work, including a detailed break down of cost, products, sub contract specialists, and full technical details - all of which were easy to comprehend and imo fairly priced for the value. In fact, Todd spent extra time with me discussing my current installation and sharing his knowledge and experience with my products and my curiosity about them --it was like talking shop with an ol' friend. An Outstanding Experience! We recently contracted with Todd Meyer at North Star Outdoor Lighting to completely redo our landscape lighting in the front and rear of our home in Scottsdale. From start to finish, we could not have been happier with Todd and his team. When he first came to our home, Todd outlined a very detailed plan for lighting that would accent our home and plants. Importantly, he did not recommend an excessive amount of lighting but gave us a plan that would illuminate the driveway and walking paths and enhance our landscaping and home. He helped us select the appropriate fixtures for our architecture and landscaping and gave us a very reasonable proposal. On the day of installation, Todd and his team arrived promptly and got to work, removing our old landscape lighting, and installing the new transformers, power lines and fixtures. In a day and a half, the project was completed. Todd and his team thoroughly cleaned up everywhere they had worked and then walked us through all they had done. Interestingly, it was early afternoon when they finished so we could not see the "finished project" until the lights turned on that evening. Having just completed the landscaping for a new home, I knew I wanted to compliment it with outdoor lighting. My previous homes had big box store path lighting and they would always fail. They would break, made cheaply, etc. This time I wanted to do it right. I had several bids from various companies but Todd's was the most understandable. He carefully explained his warranties, the types of bulbs he uses (and I learned not all bulbs are created equal!!), etc. he's a lighting artist and came up with the perfect plan. Within a week of our meeting, my yard was finished. His installation was simple and left the grounds just as he found them. You'd never know he dug a trench around the perimeter. I am very happy that I hired Todd to redo our landscape lighting. I initially did it on the cheap to save money, but the lighting ended up having several hot spots with several lights blinding you as you walked around the yard. Todd isn't the cheapest, but he's the best and refuses to pout anything but high quality products into your project. He was very professional, pleasant and did what he said he would do and on time. I've been in the "dark" since 2006. I finally saw the "light" after going to Yelp and reading all the reviews on outdoor lighting professionals. It was no contest ... North Star Outdoor Lighting had amazing reviews, so I called them. A week later (today) I had my beautiful outdoor lighting installed. I chose green for the holidays, which will be changed to white lights after the New Year. The problem with accent lighting is it's addictive. I immediately want to call Todd to add even more lights! I had my installation done several months ago and wanted to wait until after the "honeymoon" period to write a review. Suffice it to say that the other reviews on this site were instrumental in my selecting Todd and North Star for my project. I was not mislead in any way and can only echo what others have already said. The design and quality of the work remains phenomenal. We get many comments on our,home now that the lighting has been added. While certainly not the cheapest option in this space, North Star delivers a tremendous value. You have to look quite close to see where they worked. Simply first class craftsmanship, which one does not see much these days. I have not needed any repairs but we did add a few more fixtures after the initial installation and those were done quickly and just as professionally as the "big" job. We like that Todd will come out and do a system maintenance checkup whenever you need, so your lights will remain properly aligned and in good working order. You will not make a bad or wrong decision if you select Todd and North Star for your own project. Also, like others have said, trust their design. They are truly artists with light. read more

We recently worked with Todd to design and install a complete lighting plan for our mid-century modern home. I originally contacted Todd about 2 years ago for a quote along with 2 other companies. Todd was by far the best. Not only is his professionalism and customer service beyond excellent but his eye for design and detail really stood out to me. After putting off the remake of our outdated landscape lights that the previous owner had installed in our home, I started the process of finding a reputable landscape lighting company that would do the work. I actually called 4 lighting contractors and only 2 came out to give me a quote (even though all four had scheduled appointments with me), and only one was on time. That one person was Todd Meyer with North Star. We started the process by looking at my current system and we then determined what type of lighting and where the lights should go. Todd had great input in this area, which is helpful since I am not a landscape lighting designer. The next step was to choose the type of lights and then Todd worked up a quote. He was very clear on what would be done and how it was done. I got the quote and compared it to the other company I was considering and decided to go with Todd based on meeting with him and being comfortable with what he proposed. The work was completed in a day and the house looks great. We do live in a pretty nice neighborhood and now our house really fits in nicely with the other houses that have high quality landscape lighting. Todd came back that night and adjusted the lights and made sure I was happy with how everything was set up. His recommendations to light our home front and back all came out just like he said it would. Todd only installs light fixtures made in America; the bulbs come from a local company located in Cave Creek. When you look side by side at what you're replacing and at Todd's product, you'll see the quality he's installing. The light options are extensive. The installation is professional and just blends into the landscape. With the LED light options now, all 35 of our new lights use the same energy as just 4 of our old lights. And we had a ton of lights on the old system. We've shaved off at least 800 plus watts by replacing our old landscape light system. Todd is a true professional and treats lighting like his art. I had a few quotes, some from landscape guys who 'also do lighting' and some from lighting specialists but Todd stood out among them. His costs were reasonable, he cared about quality and value, and he did everything he said he would do. In my backyard, he helped revive an old system that was there when I moved in but never worked (even took some of the previously installed lights from my front yard that no longer had power to them and added on to the backyard system). He then put in a brand new system for the front yard that took my dark home and made it the nicest looking house in the neighborhood. Lights are a relatively inexpensive way to really give your house that 'nicest home on the block' feel. Todd isn't pushy and doesn't give a salesman vibe - he instantly can envision the right lights, fixtures and angles to make your home look its best and explains what he recommends and why he recommends it. Trying to put up my Halloween lights and the outdoor outlet appeared DOA. Called North Star as their company address was right down the street.
