Dr. Farber is an excellent Dr. That aside, I've got to quit this eye office. Just like so many other reviews on this site, the receptionist is intolerable. She is so rude that unfortunately it's going to be easier to find another Dr. than to deal with her again. Today, Sunday, August 3rd, my 11 year old daughter woke up crying that her left eye hurt and it felt like something was in there. She wears Ortho-K lenses at night so my immediately thought/ concern was that it was from the lenses so I text our eye doctor, who got back to me immediately but said she was out of the country and advised me to call Dr. Evan's office and to ask for the Dr. on call. I called the office and about a half an hour later Dr. Kimberly McNulty called me back and was immediately rude asking who she was speaking with saying. "I don't know you." I briefly explained the situation and said I was advised by our eye dr to call Dr. Evan's office and I was cut off by Dr. McNulty who said, and I quote, "This is total BS. I don't even cover for her. And this is why I don't use OrthoK. I don't know why you're calling me, go to Mass eye in Boston." My response was that I was just doing as I was told, trying to take care of my 11 year old daughter. As someone who has been wearing glasses since I was 5 years old and contacts since I was 14 I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly, both with eye doctors and regular physicians, and quite frankly I don't care how good at your job you are, if you speak and treat any patient or human being the way Kimberly McNulty spoke to me over the phone today then I have ZERO respect for you. I've had to call the "on call pediatrician" over the years for my children, and I almost never get our regular doctor, it's always someone else, and I've never once been treated to or spoken to the way I was this morning. There was zero kindness, zero compassion, only an attitude and abbreviated profanities, as I clearly interrupted her Sunday morning. As I mentioned I'm a long time wearer of glasses and contacts, I also happen to have my own side business and I work in a different physicians office, where I'm very often providing referrals, including eyes. Moving forward I'll continue to refer people to my eye dr, but I will absolutely forewarn people of Kimberly McNulty. I do hope she reads this review and feels ashamed for helping make my Sunday that much more stressful. Oh, and Kimberly, the issue had nothing to do with her orthok, it was an eyelash under her lid. I'm thrilled we drove into the city for that. Next time, think TWICE about the way you speak to people, as they say, someone might not remember what you said to them, but they'll always remember how you made them feel. read more

The person who answers phone and books appointments has a big attitude and wouldn't let me explain that I was having terrible med interaction and; tried bullying me into listening to her pontificate about how busy the office is instead. Unbelievable. Done with these clowns. How they maintain a patient base is beyond me. read more

Pathetic. I have been having a severe head ache since morning and I am new to the State of MA. The receptionist first said she had something for tomorrow and asked who my primary care doctor was. I told her I am yet to establish someone in the State of MA. She put me on hold for 20 minutes or so and told me she doesn't have an appointment till April. I mean who does that? I just hung up. My good friend recommended me to to see Dr. Barsam. I was having severe headache. I called and made an appointment. When I went there and the nurse checked my eyes, but did not do real exam because if that she gave me the wrong prescription. I went to Burlington mall to change my lense. I know sometimes it takes few days to adjust. But unfortunately I had very strong headache more than a week. When I went back again to see Dr. Barsam to explain that the prescription they gave me was wrong. Instead of admitting their mistake they try to cover up eachother.especialy the nurse didn't come to appologize her mistake. Having experience with the office workers is not proffesinal like some other Doctors office. So I will warn you to check before you go. read more

Don't make appointments and have patients wait 45 minutes for Dr to see them. Particularly when Dr is not even in the building! if patient needs eyes Dilated have them come in 15 minutes before procedure so they are not waiting for long periods of time for procedure to be done. Give out pamphlets explaining procedures and what to expect after. read more

Notorious for overbooking many patients at the same time ( see other reviews), and saying they're short staffed. Fool me one, shame on you. Fool me several times shame on me. Walked out of my last appointment after waiting a total of 90 minutes in various waiting areas while staffed were in hall chatting about what they're ordering for lunch. Went to another provider in Woburn and haven't looked back. Stay away! read more

Never going back to this place again. Had a yearly exam which was fine. Told the doc when he was submitting the prescription that I wanted contacts and he made a comment about my age and the dryness of my eyes but didn't bother to mention that he wasn't qualified to write prescriptions for contacts. Absolutely furious to find this out when I went to the desk, that the doctor wasn't qualified for giving contact prescriptions. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous. My insurance only pays for ONE exam so guess who has to pay for ANOTHER appointment to go back if I want to pursue getting contacts. I already had an exam, why should I have to make another appointment just to have someone look at my eyes again to get the info for contacts-it should be free at this point! Make sure you mention when you make an appointment if you want to continue with glasses or contacts because your yearly exam must have the RIGHT doctor to make a difference. read more

The entire crew from the schedulers to check in, to Dr Farber at North Suburban Eye Associates in Wakefield, MA are top notch. Last Friday I called in around 2pm with an injured eye. 30 minutes later they had me in the chair. The technician dilated my eye, and 5 minutes later Dr Farber diagnosed the problem and electronically sent a prescription into my Pharmacy. Very organized, caring and time efficient group. Highly recommend! Their eye glass shop has a huge selection, and I wish they were in-network under my Vision Insurance. read more

Worst eye doctor experience in a long time. They could not get prescription right and I had to get a new prescription and new glasses after the initial exam and the initial glasses. That the eye prescription was done by a nurse and not a doctor seems unusual in my experience and may have been a contributing factor. Nor did they manage to bill my vision insurance as one would expect when seeing an eye doctor. Instead they insist that this quite routine eye exam was instead a 'medical' eye exam that needs to go to my medical insurance where I face higher deductibles. Finally, they failed to alert me that they are out-of-network for my vision insurance and are only in network for my medical insurance - so regardless of how this ultimately will end up getting billed (vision vs medical plan), I'll likely be saddled with meaningfully higher costs than the $10 copay I was expecting given my vision insurance. In general I would expect any eye doctor to (1) check whether they are in-network for the vision insurance, not the medical insurance when asked whether they are an in-network provider, (2) bill routine eye exams to vision insurance, and (3) not mess up a simple prescription for glasses. They failed on all three items. Stay away. read more

I haven't had any problems with the staff and they sure have a large client base. I love the office staff and Sarah the optician that I saw is an efficient worker and kind. I like Dr, Evens and he cleared up an eye problem that brought me to his practice after having troubles elsewhere. Think of the times we are in where everything is different from what we have had before. The office staff has had to cope with a lot. I prefer to give them a pass if they had a bad day. Would give a 5 star review to Dr McNulty, she is terrific...but if I could give a zero review to their billing department I would! Bill is never correct, have to call every month...doesn't show what I've already paid or the insurance has paid! I make a payment every month & bill keeps going up instead of down! Can't figure out how they arrive at their figures, try as I might! If I didn't like Dr McNulty, I wouldn't go back ever! Billing department stinks & I feel I'm being robbed! I'm posting a single star which strictly is reflective of this offices billing and management staff. Which also includes one of the owners, who did not call or respond to the complaint letter that was received with my check. Instead my check was cashed with zero response to my letter. Classy act from a business man and Doctor. Here's a heads up, if your PCP/specialist tells you to see an eye doctor yearly be sure you reach out to the office and ask them to write a medical necessity letter for your insurance company who will most likely deny your claim due to refraction being covered every other year. If you are looking for the office to tell you that, it will take tons of calls with no call backs, belittling which includes telling you that you need to know your insurance, and you'll have to act as your own billing person and most likely appeal the claim your self. Have you ever filled out an appeal before, probably not because most offices make this part of their billing practice to obtain money from the insurance you pay premiums on, instead of the patient. What a horrendous billing department. I've been in billing and health care management for over 20 years and have never seen such incompetence and unwillingness to help a patient with their questions. If I could give this office less then one star I would with what was endured from their billing 'manager'. If you've been paying a $40ish payment or something around that amount every other year, that's because they are not sending medical necessity letters along with your claim to the insurance company. Best part, they know that's the issue but it's easier for it to be paid by you. Know your insurance and push back on incompetency. Always research the office before going there. With social media today, company's who care will care about the patient and their reputation and call to rectify or further explain a situation. Company's that don't care receive a two page complaint letter with a check attached and cash it with zero response to your letter. That's not even shocking with what went on with this office. There is a slight chance the letter never made it to its recipient and was intercepted by the billing folks, but it also wouldn't shock me if the Doctor read it and did not reach back out to me. Seems to be the apples may not fall far from the tree. Unwillingness to work with a customer will never be tolerated by this family and shouldn't be tolerated by you. Two patients lost and guess what, they don't care. We are nothing but $$$.... stay away from the Wakefield office, but I'll bet the billing folks handle all their offices, so you might just want to stay clear all together. read more

Worst experience ever!! I took my 90 year old mother here recently and the whole experience as dreadful. The receptionist could not locate where the referral doctor works (on the paperwork I gave her) even though it was write on the top of the printout! I did not think to take the listing of med my mother takes and offered to go up the street to get them when the tech asked. I asked twice and was told "We will figure it out" Ok, so now we are on WHEEL OF FORTUNE?!! Perhaps the key to my mother's blurriness would be in the medicine she is taking? The tech never introduced herself, she just took my mother over to a machine to check her eyes. We were then escorted back to the exam room--where the tech started checking her vision. The tech explained she has a cataract in the left eye. I asked what should we do about it and she said let the doctor speak with you about it. I said oh, your not the doctor. The women replied no I am the tech. Clearly the tech should have introduced herself as the tech and walked us thru what was going to happen. After the doctor examined my mothers eyes and had an xray done, the doctor explained she could not find a reason for the blurriness my mother was experiencing but could to laser to see if that would help. The doctor did say she could not find any cornea damage. Help the bottom line of the practice? Certainly these people did not seem to want to help in any other way. If you are thinking of going to this practice, think again. read more

Went for my daughter who was having trouble seeing the board in school. Instead they prescribed her reading glasses. She said the reading glasses hurt her eyes. Went back to have them adjusted, and she still doesn't use them. I am now on year two of emails from teachers telling me she needs distance glasses for seeing the board. What a waste of time and money on reading glasses. Also, I paid a copay at the time of my visit that it turns out wasn't due and the billing office won't call me back to refund me, even though I've been calling for over a year. read more

It pains me to give only one star to an establishment where the doctors meant so well (as did the whole staff, with one notable exception). They subjected me to several rounds of testing to see why the glasses they were giving me were causing cross eyes (I'd worn glasses for 21 years prior without incident), and they really wanted to figure it out. When I finally self-diagnosed on the Internet (dry eyes, not helped by contact lenses or the drops they were giving me) they were very excited, and eagerly signed off on my diagnosis and even suggested LASIK (which they conveniently offer in-house, booked in the office but performed at Mass Eye & Ear) as being a solution to my problem. I signed up for LASIK through them, with an unpleasant medical coordinator named Sheila, relieved that my problems were almost over and not minding the fact that she was kinda obnoxious. I later learned that Sheila had canceled my surgery without warning because not enough patients had signed up to make it profitable, forcing me to forfeit the testing fees I'd already incurred. She did not bother to tell me this until a week before I thought I was having surgery. I was so horrified at the thought of staying as blind as I was without LASIK that I burst into tears, and my pleas for her to at least speak with Dr. Evans (the LASIK surgeon) to appeal my case were met with "That's not how we do it." Joke's on her. I went to a real doctor at Mass Eye and Ear for LASIK, which did indeed solve my problem; they also treated my dry eye syndrome properly and I see better than I have since the third grade. Sheila got the $150 for my screening, but the $5k for the actual surgery went to the actual doctors at Mass Eye & Ear who don't run a clown show. I'm 32 and I've been in contacts since I was 11, dealing with eye doctors that whole time. I've never seen this kind of incompetence. Don't let the friendly suburban-white-girl routine they have going on fool you; there is great confusion here, and if you get to the point where you have to deal with Sheila, unpardonable incompetence and mean-spiritedness. I hope that Dr. Evans relieves her of her duties and soon. read more

ZERO stars! My daughter had a contact lens exam in June 2018 (2 months before she was eligible for her next eye exam). I paid the $95 fee to be able to switch her lenses from daily to weekly lenses. In July 2018, I got a bill for $350 for an uncovered eye exam that she did not have. I have been disputing this bill for almost 8 months with a voicemail left for their billing office at least once (usually twice) a week with no call ever returned. The 2 times someone in the billing office actually answered the phone, I was told they'd look at the file and call me back. Follow up attempts to contact them went unanswered. Today they tried the same tactic. I gave up and paid the bill because they sent it to a collections agency without ever giving me the courtesy of a return call or attempt to resolve this issue. I will be taking my family of 5 elsewhere for eye care. UPDATE.... after posting my review here, I received a call from the new facility administrator Kevin Clemens. He apologized for my experience and refunded my payment. While I appreciate his efforts and give kudos to him for resolving the issue, this never should have happened or should have been resolved 8 months, over 50 phone calls, and a potential hit to my credit score sooner. I hope that his reorganization efforts of the facility prevent future practices like this from happening to others. read more

I see Dr Evans, I think he's a fabulous doctor and I've been in this practice for years. Dr Evans even did my lasik surgery. I've always had pleasant experiences here and in comparison to other medical offices I find most of the staff helpful and nice. Sometimes they overbook but the key is to get one Of the first appointments of the day if not you may have a wait. I wouldn't go anywhere else I'll be sad when Dr Evans retires. read more

Doctor Evans is Tops; professional and competent. Most of the Office Workers seem nice and business like. Problems 'Galore' come when the 'Purpose' of The Appointments seem truly 'screwed up' as to the true 'Purpose for them 'in time' as they were 'duplicated' and 'needless'. The REAL complaint lies in the 'Surgical Scheduler' ' SHEILA'. My Wife is a Korean National who always has depended on me for complex matters such as surgeries, paperwork, interpretation etc. My wife is a Cataract patient, both eyes. When we walked into 'Sheila's office, SIDE BY SIDE, 'Sheila' began talking to us and I sat besides my wife and 'SHIELA' began talking about a 'procedure' during the Cataract surgery as to what I 'thought' BOTH OF US'. The Procedure was to eliminate 'ASTIGMATISM' FOR the one eye they were going to do. I explained to my WIFE and she said " 1900.00 dollars!!?" NO honey'..And I said 'Sheila' , she does not 'want that'.. SHIELA looked at me and said 'AND 'WHO' ARE YOU ? "...This made me pissed real bad, as she knew I was her Husband FOR GOD'S SAKE !!'... Anyway to make it interesting...My Wife had the surgery and it came nice WITHOUT THE ASTIGMATISM LENS !!!! NOW ~~~ This week comes time for the NEXT EYE !!!" I went with my wife and 'this time' waited in the WAITING ROOM. I did not 'know' my wife would be seeing SHIELA !! AGAIN !!! When my wife came out I said, 'How did it go' ..( not knowing she had seen 'SHEILA' again !!!! My wife had PAPERS 'agreeing to pay' $ 1900.00 FOR 'astigmatism' LENS..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... What the hell is SHEILA talking to my Korean American wife about an ASTIGMATISM lens for ???????????? She still is going to need EYEGLASSES as the other eye is still ASTIGMATISM !!!! I asked my wife..Why did you sign this damn paper ?.... She said, 'Because my eye is 'ITCHY' !!! I explained all this to my wife and she immediately said.. "OH , I don't want to pay $ 1900..for that. I still have to buy eyeglasses Honey?".. I said 'Yes honey, you do.. but Shiela and her boss get $ 1900 !!!!... SHEILA did not even mention...'Ask your Husband first.. and then get back with me..'...I only want my wife to discuss things like these which can be complicated, and not all she does in life...My wife 'likes' eyeglasses'.. and SHEILA likes 'CASH', and if you can 'sense' SHEILA is a 'bit' MACHO' TOWARD MEN... Well ...I DO TOO !!!.. ASTIGMATIC' LENS FOR ONLY ONE EYE !!!! Jesus, help us !!! read more

It was a pleasant experience. I was taken on time and Andrew and Sherri were delightful.

I was referred to this group by a co-worker...so off we went yesterday, the hubby and me for our eye exams. Now I can't even put Visine in my eyes - I am a complete blinker/flincher/pull my face away from anything coming towards me : ) It was quickly clear that our previous eye specialist, although a very nice man, was also clearly "low-tech" This facility (they have other locations) was top notch. They moved things along and the care we both received from the techs, the physician we saw (Dr. Evans) and the assistance of the optician in their expansive optical shop was stellar. Clearly we have found our new eye specialist...even if they did ask me to sit still so they could come at my with some super-scope to get a good look at my eyes...I behaved and I am sure the MD was glad that I have 20/20 vision as if he had to do anything else to me it would have been a challenge. read more
