I was charged $129.45 in tolls for under 20 minutes of driving. This is not an opinion - this is based on actual billing records with timestamps, and I'm attaching a redacted copy of my statement to prove it. Here are the facts: Chisholm Trail Parkway - about 7 minutes of driving - $2.80 Completely reasonable and what any driver would expect. On Tarrant Pkwy / North Tarrant Express: Outbound trip - less than 7 minutes - $51 Return trip - after exiting Chisholm Trail Parkway, I was on local roads for roughly 5 minutes, then entered Tarrant Pkwy / North Tarrant Express again: About 11 minutes of travel - $78.45 Total on Tarrant Pkwy / North Tarrant Express: $129.45 When you look at the timestamps on the statement, these are not single tolls. They are multiple charges stacking up within minutes of each other, creating a total cost that is completely disproportionate to the time spent on the road. This is directly supported by the billing data. Final comparison: About 7 minutes on Chisholm Trail Parkway - $2.80 About 18 minutes total on Tarrant Pkwy / North Tarrant Express - $129.45 Same area. Same day. Within minutes of each other. There is no reasonable way for a driver to anticipate that one toll road would cost a few dollars, while another would cost over $100 for a similar duration of travel. If you're driving in this area: Do not assume toll roads are priced similarly Be extremely cautious using Tarrant Pkwy / North Tarrant Express Check your statements carefully No one expects triple-digit toll charges for short trips. Customer Service is a joke to me. I've tried for several days to get customer service to help me with registering my account because of multiple error messages. I've been given 2 Toll Tag ID's and 2 Account Numbers but they in turn say Registration is Incomplete yet they sure are deducting from my bank account !! Have ask for a print out of my activities on Express Lane twice, its been 2 weeks NOTHING. Have been told 2 different stories on how they charge you. What a scam! I paid a transport service to haul my travel trailer from Arizona to Texas. The driver of that service ran 4 tolls. They billed me for 4 tolls and the driver of the truck. The only person/vehicle that should have been charged was that driver. I shouldn't be responsible but had to pay. They really take advantage of folks. read more

We received letters saying we owed money on our account, which is strange because we have always had auto draft when funds get low. She I logged to the account online, it always showed a positive balance. So we thought it was just spam since scams are rampant with tollway users. Fast forward and we get a locket in the mail and a hold on our vehicle (online account STILL shows only positive) and they say we owe $175. But we had to pay $400 to release our hold. I can't even get my inspection sticker on my vehicle because of the hold so they know we have to pay it or risk further issues. It even says on the NTTA website to check your account online if you suspect a scam. I did that and still, here we are. They need to stop this monopoly of madness. It's RIDICULOUS. read more

They get annoyed by the questions you ask and get in the way of you trying to do things right. They simply have no desire to work. The customer service staff is extremely frustrated and ill-tempered. They are horrible. For years I've been with them. Then my card expires and now I owe over 300 $. Yeah right. All those late fees and not to mention i literally dont go anywhere since I had my kid almost 3 years ago so no way I owe that much. It's totally outrageous how they treat humans in general. Never had an issue from me paying. I'd see if I was a continuous offender but literally my first time and now im hit with high bill and it's going to continue to increase. Very frustrating experience with North Texas Tollway Authority. I opened a TollTag account in 2024 and used toll roads throughout 2025. I regularly checked my account online, and it always showed a $0 balance. I never received any paper bills or text reminders. Recently, I logged in and suddenly saw a balance close to $1,000. My credit card had been replaced, so auto-pay failed--but what I cannot understand is why my account showed $0 the entire time and only updated much later with much higher non-TollTag charges. I even went in person to an NTTA service center, but the staff could not explain why the account failed to show the balance and kept repeating the same general responses. If the balance had appeared earlier, I would have fixed it immediately and avoided hundreds of dollars in extra fees. So which should customers trust--the website account or email notifications? After this experience, I will avoid using NTTA toll roads unless absolutely necessary. read more

The tollroad is the last resort to get between 'A' and 'B' because of the expense and poor service. Usually, the online payment is the easiest way to add to my account and I always check the box that says do not keep this payment information. Today, I logged on and clicked the box for a new payment method. The next thing that came up was a list of every payment method I have used in the past! I've been using NTTA for over a decade . Obviously living in the DFW area comes with that necessity on occasion. Got complacent and used it too much in my opinion . Got a $900 bill I am a toll tag customer and I guess when one of your cards gets declined it stops being used for the automatic billing they just turn it off or delete it or make it invalid . So I was getting zip cash instead which is double the toll tag rate I called and after I don't know what felt like 20 minutes of trying to navigate the stupid automated answering service selections I finally got a human being . They continue to tell me that it was at the toll tag rate even though I could see the zip cash amount and I finally just gave up and paid the $900 . I will no longer be using any toll roads in this area they're not getting any more of my money I'm so tired of it. I'll take the extra travel time . It's not worth it half the time the damn toll roads are backed up anyways . Which why would I want to pay a toll to be in bumper to bumper traffic . Thanks a lot Ntta read more

NTTA will financially devastate you if you're not extremely careful. Heaven forbid you accidentally enter a toll road and exit at the very next ramp -- $1.48 in tolls somehow turns into an additional $35 in late fees. That's more than a 2000% increase. It's staggering how aggressively they pile on fees that far exceed the original charge. How does a minor oversight justify penalties that dwarf the toll itself? Where is all that extra money going? Who is benefiting from a system that punishes people so disproportionately over such small amounts? This isn't customer service -- it feels like a revenue trap designed to squeeze as much as possible out of everyone that touches their roads. read more

NTTA is hands down one of the most frustrating, poorly run agencies I've ever dealt with. Getting a toll tag for a used car should be a five minute task in 2026, but instead it turns into a full obstacle course of hoops, holds, and contradictory instructions. Somehow they never manage to send actual bills, but they're remarkably efficient at slapping on outrageous late fees and penalties for charges you didn't even know existed. And if you try to resolve it? Good luck. The customer service reps are consistently rude, dismissive, and act like you're the problem for wanting basic clarity or fairness. There's zero accountability, zero empathy, and zero urgency to fix issues they clearly create themselves. What makes it worse is that all of this is for toll roads that are in rough shape half the time. The prices they charge for these poorly maintained, congested roads are absolutely insane. You're paying premium rates for a subpar product, then getting punished when their own billing system fails. NTTA doesn't operate like a service. It operates like a trap. Confusing systems, surprise fees, and zero customer care. If you've dealt with them, you already know. Do better!! read more

Got a toll tag through them because they are the only ones accepted at the DFW airport and continue to have terrible service from them. Their readers misidentify cars and they will send you heightened bills for toll roads if you haven't already put money on your account. Even though they have auto-charge as an option for accounts they will send you an elevated bill for not having enough in your account, but will then turn around and automatically charge your card to refill the balance. Their system will also try to assign new pay by mail accounts to your car requiring you to create a new account each time; but then you also need a new email for it. And the customer service has been atrocious, better off not bothering with this company if possible. read more

Terrible customer service! I accidentally left my plates on when I sold my vehicle in Colorado and the new owner got a $2.70 toll violation which came to me. I provided a bill of sale, police report, and letter from the Colorado DMV stating I was not the owner at the time of the violation. NTTA still would not absolve me of the $2.70 fee. I spent tens of hours on this with no resolution. read more

Hooray for *checks notes* the Dallas North Tollway and the President George Bush Turnpike. I wish they could have charged my North Carolina QuickPass. It's like the Florida SunPass only different. This was for April 4 and April 6. The bill is dated June 12. Efficient? They definitely got the "take the money" part easily. Like so many things that are systematically wrong in Texas, this is simply frustrating and quite disappointing. have my NTTA toll tag set up for automatic payments through online banking, and I rarely use the toll roads. Despite this, I continue to receive notices in the mail stating that I am delinquent on payments. What makes this situation even more frustrating is that my husband, who uses the toll roads far more frequently, does not receive these notices -- his charges are seamlessly covered through the same automatic payment setup. About a year ago, he even contacted NTTA to ensure that my new vehicle was added to our account and the old one removed. At that time, we were assured everything was properly updated. I also specifically asked if I needed a physical tag in my vehicle and was told that it was unnecessary because the account is connected directly to the license plate. Given all of this, receiving these delinquency notices feels not only confusing but deeply disappointing. It's frustrating to encounter yet another example of how systems in Texas can fail to operate as they should -- leaving customers to deal with unnecessary stress and inconvenience. read more

I don't mind the whole toll thing most of the time it is a part of life to try to avoid some heavier traffic in north Texas....not like the state is going to take any initiative to improve road movement so it is just a part of life... most tolls range from $0.50 upwards of $7 which is bad enough BUT... I noticed a single toll charge of $24!! I have reached out to both. NTTA and the state and all I get it oh well. Are you freaking serious???? That is profound and predatory in any way!!! If I could give NTTA zero stars, I absolutely would. My experience with them has been nothing short of infuriating. Every interaction feels like I'm dealing with a company that thrives on confusion, hidden fees, and predatory practices rather than providing a fair service. The billing system is a complete disaster. I've had small toll charges--literally just a few dollars--turn into astronomical amounts because their notices arrive late or their online system fails. A $4 toll can morph into $50 or more in "administrative fees" before you even realize what's happening. It feels less like a transportation authority and more like a debt collection agency designed to bleed drivers dry. Their online portal is another nightmare. I've tried to update my payment methods, set up autopay, and check statements, only to be met with errors, timeouts, and endless loops. More than once, I thought my autopay was set up correctly, only to find out later it mysteriously "didn't go through"--and of course I was the one punished with late fees. It's almost as if the system is designed to fail, just so they can pile on more penalties. Calling customer service is no better. I've sat on hold for ages, only to speak with representatives who either can't resolve the issue or repeat the same scripted answers over and over. There's no ownership, no accountability, and no empathy for how disruptive and stressful their incompetence is to people's lives. What makes it worse is how unavoidable their tollways are. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, it's almost impossible not to use them. NTTA knows this, and they exploit it. The whole thing feels like a monopoly where the "customer" has no real choice, just the privilege of paying whatever NTTA decides to charge. I've dealt with plenty of companies in my life, but NTTA is hands down the most frustrating, predatory, and poorly run organization I've ever encountered. NTTA a private company was able to get DMV to block registration renewal punishing people people who can't afford toll but live in an area surrounded by toll roads and have no way to get work but use this roads , then they get tickets for not renewing registration. If I could give zero stars, I would. We paid a toll for a U-Haul truck that was towing a car. They then tried to bill me for the car that was being towed by the truck. I spent 2 weeks trying to get it resolved and still had to pay. The lady, I spoke to said that I should have removed the license plate from the vehicle that was being towed to avoid this. There was no communication from them during the whole process. I was told 3 times that they would reach out to me and they never did. I also repeated my phone number 7 times and they still had it wrong. My email was correct so there's no excuse for the lack of communication. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they hung up on me. These people are shady. read more

Incompetence is on another level with NTTA. They charged me $347.05 for toll charges on two vehicles via Zip Cash (higher rate) on 1/19/24. I called in to make the payment for the full amount, and what did they do? They not only accepted payment immediately, but also charged me an additional $347.05 15 minutes later. Yes, a $694.10 bill on charges of $347.05. When I discovered that this happened (two weeks later), another operator acknowledged that mistakes were made from the first operator (to include not adding a toll tag, as well as not converting the NTTA rate to a discounted rate. I called back a third time of 2/5/24, and had one of the rudest female operators ever. Basically wouldn't allow for me to talk, nor would listen to my concerns. I asked for her to make it right, to which she did nothing but argue and raise her voice. She then reversed the over charges, putting me in a negative balance that completely cancelled out the discounted rate. I had to escalate the phone call based on her attitude (she even said that a manager would get back to me within 24-48 hours), which the manager said that he couldn't do anything. Probably the worst customer service that I've ever received within the DFW area. I sincerely hope that karma will do its thing in time to the rude people involved over at NTTA. The bar has been set extremely low here when it comes to a live person actually listening, handling, and correcting/executing your primary toll tag objective or concern. read more
