Originally booked as a single night, post-Yellowstone reprieve (I mean, looking at hot springs all day long makes you want to soak in one, right?!), we ended up extending our stay another day, because of how much we all (my wife and I, plus our two toddler tons) loved this place! The hot springs alone is worth the price of admission: two pools, one smaller and warmer, the other larger and cooler (but still warm enough that there is no temperature shock when shifting between them), with a poolside bar window where you can order cocktails from the attached saloon...that's pretty hard to beat! There's also an attached restaurant, but we didn't get a chance to check it out, as it was closed by the time we returned to the hotel both nights. There's also the aforementioned saloon, which is open until 11-ish every night (basically, until everyone staggers out), with a wonderful, conversational bartender, Kelby, who was warm, welcoming and engaging: a true gem in an already glittering establishment. He also pointed out their absolutely ABSURD wine selection, indicating the presence of a fabulously stocked wine vault somewhere on site, for those with expensive tastes (not me; I'll stick to my whiskey!). Rooms are rustic, but comfortable, including the beds. We stayed our first night in a private cabin up on the hill, with two small bedrooms (queen beds in each) and a bathroom. Our second night, all the cabins were filled, so we ended up in a room in the main lodge, on the second floor, which had its own aesthetic perks, as the whole building feels like an inn from a previous century (which, technically, I guess it is...but it feels even older than that, in all the good ways). It's probably also haunted. We hope it is, anyway! Beyond all these incredible features I've mentioned, there's actually many, many more: an on-site gift shop / café, open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM every day; there's a day spa up on the hill; you can book horseback rides from the stable near the gift shop; there's a playground for the littles behind the private garden, which appears to be tended by the James Beard award-winning chefs that make the fantastic dining hall an excellent choice for either breakfast/brunch (a buffet at $22/person, and absolutely worth it), or a truly incredible fine dining service in the evening. All those things, and I'm sure I'm probably forgetting or overlooked something. In short, Chico Hot Springs has something for everyone, young or old, rustic or extravagant: our little sons LOVED the hot springs (as did we, of course), but there's so much more to love here, that it has made a lasting impression on us all. Montana has never had much of a draw for city-slickers like my wife and I, but after our stay here, our ignorance has been thoroughly rectified. VERY recommended.

We stayed in the covered wagons. First of all, they do not look like the picture. Only one has a fire pit, and that wasn't either of ours. There is a group fire pit by the bathrooms, but they wouldn't even help us with smores supplies or sticks. You are in the middle of nowhere, so if you forgot something, don't expect them to help. The area around the wagons is very overgrown. They had a horseshoe pit that was hard to see because there was so much grass. Not that it would matter, they didn't have any horseshoes there. The wagons themselves had good mattresses and comfortable bedding. However, they only had air conditioner available and no heat. Kind of pointless in the Montana mountains. I'm glad our weather was mild while we were there. We checked in at 6:30, and asked when the pool side grill would close. They said after 9pm. We got on our swimsuits, and headed to the pool, only to find the grill closed and it wasn't even 7! I went to the front desk to complain, and all they said was the girl who told us was wrong. So I asked about eating in the restaurant but they said they stopped taking reservations at 4 PM even if they have any openings. So, that left us feeding five kids in a saloon. There were only two saloon workers that night. They did their best, but you could tell they were very understaffed. It made the whole experience pitiful. It is not like you have another choice of a place to eat when you're that far from town. Overall, Chico is an overpriced waste. Save your money and go to one of the other cool places in the area. The Hot Springs at Yellowstone Hot Springs is better than the Chico pool anyway.

The breakfast runs 8-11am and has fruit, oatmeal, drinks, bagels and various toppings etc. the timing didnt work for me being gone by 645 am. The shared fridge is very large and worked out nicely. The mens bathroom situation was ok with 2 tiled stand up shower stalls but not ideal. Bring shower sandals! You get what you pay for though so no complaints. Even as someone was going to the bathroom in a stall just outside the showers. Haha. Ew. The private room worked great and had an end table, lamp, stand up oscillating fan, standup coat hanger, and a chair. The bed was as good as you can get for 50$ or so a night, with a sheet above you, below you , and a comforter on top. Whoever lives or works in the building upstairs isnt the quietest. The Hostel certainly keeps it toasty warm in there and thank god for the fan to cool me at night and dry my clothes from skiing. The employees i encountered were nice and didnt intrude in any way. The hostel location is 1 block in front of the Downtown bus stop with multiple kinds of buses going to other areas, which were really helpful for skiing. Take the 6:57am blue line bus to walmart. Then jump on the other 7:00am bus to Big Sky Resort. Blue line hours are horrible on weekends for skiers! The Hostel location in downtown was great with plenty of shops, stores, and places to grab a bite to eat. Check out is firmly 11am. If you check in after 10pm you get charged a $10 fee. It wasn't crowded when i went. Overall the price was worth it and it helped me visit a spot I never explored before. Thank you.

Stay away from this place if you want cleanliness and quiet…read more This was my first encounter in a small town hostel. I have frequented hostels in big cities and throughly enjoyed my experiences. The hostel is located in the basement of building and can be dark, gloomy and smelly. The entire set up is quite bizzare. The kitchen is extremely small. There is little to no place to prep your food. You can't cook any food in the kitchen before 11am. You get your drinking water from the utility sink next to the washer and dryer. I will say the water was fine to drink. Since I had been traveling extensively the last 4 weeks I opted for the single room. I stepped into the room that felt like a jail cell. No natural ventilation or light. A twin bed with sheets that looked questionably clean and a thin blanket. The floor clearly hadn't been swept or mopped from the last few guests. The lamp and dresser needed dusting too. The ladies room had 2 sinks, one of which only had running cold water. The other that did have hot water but was slow to drain. The shower curtains had mildew on the bottom. There was never any heat in the bathroom and it was cold at times. The walls are paper thin. I'm a city girl so I'm comfortable with a little noise having lived in apartments for years. But this was ridiculous. I woke up a 6:30 am with someone's alarm every morning and it wasn't blaring either. You literally hear EVERYTHING. Every cough, sneeze, snore, fart and burp. Which I swear there must have been a contest I didn't know about because these guys were constantly trying out do one another. The entire place is run by a bunch of college kids and it shows. I literally heard one young lady state that they needed to look like they were doing something before their boss comes. Clearly there is something to do, CLEAN! This was surprising to me because we are in the middle of a pandemic and cleanliness is imperative for any business now. Also they never enforced any of their own rules. Quiet hours were not kept. I had to knock on my neighbor's door at 4:30 am to ask him to turn his t.v. down. There is a piano in the lounge that is to be used between 10 am and 10 pm. My last day there someone was playing the piano at 9:30 am. If you have standards for your hostel stays then stay away from this one. Hopefully with the growth in Bozeman another establishment will open because there is definitely a need for an acceptable hostel in this town.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few nights in a private room with a bathroom. Our room was outside by parking spaces, so I liked that. The room itself was cozy and perfect for us to come back to after long days hiking and exploring. The room had a refrigerator and microwave, which was nice. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. The heat did not work well, so it got a bit chilly through the night. The hotel has a cute gift shop and you get a discount if you are staying in the hotel. We received discount vouchers for the restaurant next door. To me that was awesome! The hotel was a little pricey, but seemed cheaper than most places around there. I would stay there again.

I had to work the day I was leaving (until 4pm because that's when I was meeting my friends to head down to Big Sky), so they were kind enough to give me a later check out and then let me work from the lobby until it was time to leave Bozeman. They even provided me with some bear spray for my hike... apparently they had extra in the back from people leaving it behind, since you can't bring it on flights. I'm glad I stayed here during my visit, and I would choose it again!

It looked like some of the furniture may have been antique and maintained that early 1920's feeling. I stayed in one of the hotel rooms upstairs with a claw foot bathtub in the bathroom . The common area downstairs has a TV, and log construction is amazing. Nice fireplace and s'mores with the staff some evenings. Coffee and hot chocolate down the hall. Attention to detail, a drinking fountain made from a log and an old wooden phone booth in the back corner with a nicely restored old phone in it. Just really different.
