We were on a three day trip to Yellowstone, and needed a place to stay one night in Gardiner. This location is out of the city just a few minutes drive, but has gorgeous views from every door. Our room had a kitchen in it, which would've been helpful if we had been staying for more than one night. The morning breakfast was OK, but not that memorable. The room was clean, and it gave us the opportunity to chill out and watch some TV, so I guess it suited its purpose. read more

Due to early tour time, I called to change my reservation 6 days before our stay. The owner, Jeanette Mikos said "No." A couple of days later, my card had fraudulent charges, so I shut it down and when they tried to charge me for the room, it did not go through. I went elsewhere and chose not to stay there. The owner threatened to take me to court for the amount, but would settle for one night. Due to my second parent dying this year, I did not respond immediately give them the one night. The owner counted down the days and said the following "Crista, This is Jeannette Mikos (owner) of the Yellowstone Basin Inn. We have allowed for 13 days to receive your payment by check by mail. No payment has been received. If we do not receive payment for the 1 night stay of $351 by 8/1/2025, we will have to pursue with the local District Justice for the full 3 nights of stay, $1,053. Please contact us with payment of the $351. Thank you." I informed her my mother had died 2.5 months after my dad and that paying her wasn't at the top of my list. No response. Yellowstone is the number 1 international destination. If a business won't accommodate a change and will chase you for one nights stay, it's because they are not making a lot of money. This is such a great place to stay when visiting Yellowstone or just to take a break, we have been here 3 days and it is so comfortable and peaceful, large rooms, great amenities, bathroom, microwave refrigerator and coffee maker, porch overlooking the mountain range, the Elk are plenty, if I could rate it a 10 I would, I've travelled the world, and this place is just wonderful. We really wanted to like this hotel more than we did, but it just wasn't our favorite place to stay. The good news: the location is nice in that you're a few miles from Gardnier so it's more secluded and it does have a nice view of some mountains. Our room was also clean and the owner was very nice throughout our stay. However, the room itself was a bit shabby and the bathroom wasn't the best for what we paid. We partially stayed here since breakfast was included and we knew we'd want to get out early to explore the park. Breakfast was just not very good overall and there was no water available and no butter (just margarine). We expected a bit more overall from this hotel given that it has excellent reviews on multiple sites, but it just wasn't our favorite. read more

This Inn is beautiful and 8mi from Gardiner which is perfect if you want to be a little secluded from the crowd and enjoy the nature. The views from here are gorgeous. The inn itself have about 25 rooms which makes it homey and personal. The Hosts are really nice too. The rooms are cozy, have all the amenities (bring your toothpaste, and water if you want it filtered). Rooms have a microwave, coffee, refrigerator, towels, toiletries, hairdryer, wifi, and a phone. The room was clean and well kept. I'll definitely visit again, great for solo travelers. read more

We spent 2 nights in the largest room. It had 5 beds and 3 couches. Lots of room to be comfortable. I wish we could have stayed for a week. The breakfasts had limited options but good quality. There was a herd of Elk that came around the place a few times while we were there. The views were fantastic! We stayed for three nights at Yellowstone Basin Inn. Janette and Danny were very friendly and great hosts. The pancakes Janette made were so yummy. My daughter loved the rocking chair in the room. The trail course Danny recommended had a great view I won't forget. (Please try!) When we came back home, we realized that my daughter left her favorite stuffed animal in the room. She was very sad. A few days later we received a surprise from Janette and Danny. They mailed my daughter's stuffed animal, even we didn't ask! My daughter wrote a thank-you card for them. (Thank you so much! It meant a lot to my daughter and me.) During Winter, you can also see pronghorn deer near the inn as well. We were lucky to see hornfight of them next to the parking lot. read more

This bed and breakfast was the perfect stop for our Yellowstone adventure. We stayed here two nights in the Valley View Room and it had two big windows with views of the valley. The room was well kept and had a Keurig machine (which I loved). Breakfast was made daily from 6-9 and was delicious both mornings. The owners are present daily and full of information/recommendations of places to visit. It's located 5 minutes outside of Gardiner, which is perfect for peace and quiet. This inn is located 2 miles from the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The view is absolutely phenomenal and the surrounding area has various kinds of wildlife. Greg was a great host. We called the day of, looking for a room to stay for the night. Greg let us know there was only one unit left, the suite with two bedrooms, living room, bathroom and kitchen. Being there was only two of us he offered us a great discount. We only wanted to utilize the bedroom, bathroom and living room so Greg gave us a rate that was less than half the normal rate for the room. We explained our ongoing route from PA to WA and Greg graciously gave us recommendations for the night we were there as well as where to stop on our travels the next few days while heading to WA. The breakfast is all homemade and delicious! I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. We will 100% be back! read more

Found this gem online searching through forums. The town of Gardiner is so small and there aren't many places to stay. This bed and breakfast is perfect!! The owners are so friendly and welcoming. The property is very clean, rooms are very comfortable and I believe there are several options for larger families. We stayed in a double Queen room. It's perfect with a little kitchen and all! Perfect location for north entrance of Yellowstone. Elk are all around the property! There's not much choice of restaurants but enough to get by. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Great location, nice room, and exceptional service. The woman owner (sorry don't recall her name) was very friendly and helpful when I called to let them know we were running late for checking in. I met her in the morning and learned that she and her husband had just purchased the property in Sept 2018. (Given this I would disregard any negative reviews prior to then). The locations nice as it is just a few minutes out of Gardiner so it is quiet with beautiful views, but you can be in town and in the park in less than 10 mins. What a pleasant surprise! This property is owned by a couple who care about their guests' stay and make every attempt to ensure your stay is comfortable, relaxing and pleasurable. We were greeted with a warm smile and pleasant conversation and a great recommendation for dinner. Our room was spacious and the bed (AND pillows) were most comfortable, and the towels were soft and quite nice. The Yellowstone Basin Inn is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast/Inn right outside of the North entrance to Yellowstone. The Inn is about 5 minutes from the gate and provides great views of the surrounding mountains and Yellowstone River. We stayed for 6 days in a suite that had 2 bedrooms, living room and kitchen but they also have single rooms. We settled on this suite since it was cheaper than having two separate rooms. The rooms were all clean and well kept. The YBI offers a great breakfast that varies from day to day. We had Montana bacon, pork/bison sausage, an assortment of quiches, sweet potato scones...hopefully you get the idea, this is not your typical continental breakfast. Greg, one of the owners, is a constant presence in the breakfast room offering great tips on what to see in the park. Each morning we went in to breakfast, he was there to greet you or at the tables asking guests what they were interested in seeing and notating their maps accordingly. They have a hot tub which is great to relax in after a long day in the park and other typical amenities such as Cable TV and Wi-Fi. I'd stay here again without a doubt if I visit Yellowstone again. read more

Our stay was from Sept. 15 until the 19th ( Unfortunately, it was also Greg's last day as the owner) The accommodations were clean and homey. The breakfast was superb and hearty but we were told it would be discontinued within a month. An outstanding perk of staying here was the amazing advice and recommendations Greg gave us each morning. He is an encyclopedia of local information. We met the new owners and they are very friendly and nice. They are making several changes to the establishment so it will have a different feel. I loved hanging out in the breakfast room talking to Greg and other guests about their adventures of the day. Greg also gave lasso lessons which was an unexpected treat. I'm glad I got to have the full experience, with an organic breakfast and excellent recommendations for day trips. It is very close to the North entrance of Yellowstone Park which makes it a convenient place to stay. read more

Where to begin. I'd give zero stars if that were an option. I'm not the kind of person who generally writes negative reviews. However, this was egregious. I made this reservation several weeks in advance as well as several other hotels/Inns for our Minnesota to Seattle road trip. We have a dog we are traveling with and made sure we were staying at pet friendly spots. I even called and spoke to someone when I decided to extend the stay one more day. We arrive around 8:45 pm, road tired from driving in from Whitefish Montana. When I checked in the manager would not let me check in because it was under my husbands name, even though my name was clearly listed in the guest list as well as my email being the point of contact. No big deal, my husband is a few minutes behind, if that were it, I would not be writing this. I casually mention Sheamas, our dog, and the manager completely changes her demeanor and becomes quite curt with me. "We only allow dogs in one room and that room is taken. " The 2 room suite we reserved ( over $1500 ) is not pet friendly. Mind you it's now after 9pm. We are a family of 4 with a dog and my daughter who is Autistic who gets extremely anxious to minor changes in plan. I explained to her that I spoke to someone several weeks ago. I made sure we were in pet friendly places to avoid this exact situation. The manager explains that the woman I spoke to would NEVER have booked this room for us given the dog. So, she is calling me a liar??? It's a she said/she said situation. I have been driving from Minnesota and this is the LAST thing you want to happen this time of night in a long road trip. So, my husband arrives in the middle of this exchange, he tries to reason with her--" don't you think it is equally possible your employee made a mistake as my wife? Can't we call a truce? Why is it only correct on your end with no benefit of the doubt to the customer". So to avoid making a long story longer: just zero concern for her customers, no accountability, (I recognize that you did in fact call, and have a not from that call, but refuse to acknowledge even the possibility that this was an error on our part, and on top of it all, I'm still going to charge you for 3 nights regardless. Now go find somewhere else to stay at 9:30 at night in Yellowstone, on a Friday night in August, with a dog... Needless to say, we will not be back, and cannot recommend strongly enough that you also avoid it. Yellowstone Gateway Inn just down the road is much much better read more

Large comfortable rooms and incredible views. We saw wildlife right in front of our window early in the morning and at night. Greg gave us excellent recommendations and advice, including lots of tips. We wanted to see wildlife and Greg gave us advice on where to go and at what time, based on his recommendations we started out before dawn and it paid off. We also ate at a great restaurant that was recommended. The hotel is in a good location for access to the park, it's a little bit outside of Gardiner but so glad we stayed there because of the scenery. read more

Not a good choice for family stay. No high chair, and 10 bucks for extra bed on top of the 10 dollars you pay for extra person. No matter how little your kid is, even if it's only one year old, they charge the extra. Good for those who have abundant time and money to spend on traveling, and those who do not have any idea what to do in Yellowstone. Otherwise you will not appreciate the "value-added" services and will not be appreciated by Greg, who would probably give you the "we don't like guests like you" face. read more

A review of the Yellowstone Basin Inn is not complete without talking about Gardiner, MT. There are only five road entrances to Yellowstone National Park. The entrances on the east (toward Cody) and south (toward Jackson) don't have towns within 20 miles of the park, so if you are planning on visiting Yellowstone and can't get room reservations in the park, your best options are West Yellowstone, Cooke City, and Gardiner. Cooke City (to the north-east) is a dump - nasty biker bar atmosphere throughout with a rundown "failed city" feel. West Yellowstone is ok - though a little congested and "commercial". Gardiner is the best of the gateway towns with a beautiful location directly on the Yellowstone River, and the perfect blend of historic western town feel with modern commercial amenities. It also happens to be the only gateway town that is open all year (throughout the winter). In 2016 the National Park Service will be celebrating its centennial. In preparation for the celebration, Gardiner is upgrading its streets and sidewalks, so everything will look brand new by 2016. Gardiner includes the headquarters of the Yellowstone Association (with its beautiful headquarters building) as well as the historic stone gate into the park. It is just 5 miles from Mammoth, which is the location of the Yellowstone park headquarters as well as the Mammoth Hot Springs. All in all, it is a great location for basing your adventures on the NORTH side of Yellowstone. I would recommend you consider another alternative if you are interested in seeing the south side of Yellowstone (or Grand Teton); the park is simply too large if you are trying to see it all from a location on one of the borders. The Yellowstone Basin Inn is located a short drive outside of Gardiner. It was not too far to be considered inconvenient; we had no trouble going into / through town to access restaurants or to get to river rafting or horseback trail riding. Every time we drove to and from town we encountered wildlife; the one evening we truly saw over 100 elk eating on the side of the road. Sitting in our room in the Inn, one morning we watched a herd of 20 pronghorn grazing on the other side of the river. It was a nice setting; even though it is on the main road it is set back so that you didn't hear any road noise. To be frank, after 9 PM there wasn't a lot of traffic, regardless. Greg and Sabina were excellent hosts. They bent over backwards to help us enjoy our stay. The staff - from the cleaning crew to the cooks - were very pleasant and friendly. The breakfasts are served in a separate dining room that is located next to the main lodge and were quite good. Examples of food served one morning were: chicken and apple sausages, individual-sized egg quiche, yogurt with granola, chocolate chip almond bread, selection of other fresh breads, jams, cold and hot cereals and fruit, coffee, tea, and juices, etc. It was definitely a big step up from a boring continental breakfast. The dining room had several tables and book shelves with guide books of the area, as well as maps to help plan your day, and large windows with vistas of the valley. Greg was always on hand to help suggest activities or locations. We stayed in a large suite of rooms that included a living room, full kitchen and dining room, master bedroom and bath, as well as a second bedroom and bath (and family room) downstairs. The lodging was very clean and tastefully decorated without being too "kitschy". The A/C worked well - one of the days we visited the temps got up to 90! One of our reservations about the suite was that there was another inn room upstairs, and there was little/no insulation under the stairs or in the ceiling, so that when another family arrived late at night, our sleep was interrupted for an hour while they carried their bags upstairs, showered, and clomped around in their room for an hour directly over our heads. Otherwise our stay was very pleasant and uneventful. We didn't watch much TV, but cable television was available. Wi-Fi service was excellent, both in terms of signal strength and bandwidth. I would definitely stay there again if I were in the area - it is a much quieter location than any of the lodging in the town of Gardiner, proper. read more

My Husband and I stayed here MID-May time frame 2015. There is not enough space to write all of the wonderful things about Yellowstone Basin Inn. Greg and Sabina are warm and inviting people who know how to put the GUEST FIRST. The rooms are comfortable, modern, well equipped and very very clean! Our homemade breakfasts every morning consisted of local and organic foods that were simply delicious. My Husband and I have visited Yellowstone annually for the past 6 years and this was the first time we stayed here.
