I'm not sure why this school got such negative reviews as I had a great experience. All Yelp reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, including mine, but consider the mentality of the reviewers: super salty or super appreciative. I'm the latter. Here's my experience in a few words: Admin staff is fantastic. Instructors were rigorous but fair. Some of the students I felt weren't paying attention as much as they should have so they, the instructors (such as Tessa or Jasmine) had to be a little stricter. I feel like if you're going to pay for a class, you'd want to pay attention and not act out like entitled children. You want to go into healthcare, fasten your seatbelts because it wasn't designed to be easy. We're all adults, let's be accountable for our actions and be professionals. Clinicals we're challenging but flexible: we went to a skilled nursing facility and rehab center which was near by (which was very convenient). It was great to put the skills we learned in class and apply it to real world scenarios. CPR certification helped me be prepared for my life in healthcare and bolstered my resume to make me more visible to headhunters. After the program, the school helped me with recommendation letters and referrals to local skilled nursing facilities, home healthcare opportunities, and rehab centers. Took the 21 days CNA AM class with Ms.Sonia and loved it! It's a fast paced program but they prepare you very well for the board exams (I was able to pass my first try). Theory is around 8 days and the rest is clinical. A lot of past comments have concerns about the old mannequins (which was true) but they just got new ones and are really nice! Ms.Sonia taught us well and gave corrections about what we can improve and focus on for our boards. Very sweet person and teacher! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking your CNA program here! read more

Let me start with the only positive from this "circus" . Yes, this place is more of a CIRCUS than a school! Okay, so Kadeshia (she is there reason for the 1 star) is the ONLY AMAZING teacher! I would not recommend anyone to go here especially for the $1400 they charge. Jasmine or especially Tessa hold a negative attitude and can be extremely rude to their students. It is almost impossible to ask either of them any questions valid or not. They can't even take constructive criticism. For all of you looking for a school, PLEASE don't waste your time and konet at NorthBay Nursing Institute, invest in a school that really wants to see their students succeed and can treat their students with respect. The staff are VERY unorganized, as soon as they collect your money you get a load of attitude, rudeness and unprofessionalism. The equipment is old, some are broken and the books are made out of just copies. For the amount of money I paid I was expecting something better. I honestly learned from Kadishia, I felt bad for her because she has taken advantage of her great heart. When the other teacher makes a schedule error, or a mistake they blame Kadishia. I sincerely didn't feel ready to even take my test back in May and contacted Qual-Ed. If you need to get CNA certified go to Qual-Ed or a different school! I did the refreshment course the day before my exam and they were amazing, went over everything, gave me tools to take home and practice etc. The next day I took my exam at Qual_ed and passed!! I attended this course to gain experience in the medical field as a CNA while pursuing a nursing career. The course is taught by retired RNs who really know their stuff and are passionate about nursing. They make a lot of money off of their students so I took one star away because the mannequins and classroom materials are so old and in dire need of an upgrade (which they can definitely afford). At the end of the day, they prepare you for the state boards and teach you everything you need to know to pass. I passed my state board exam on the first try thanks to them. read more

Let me state for the record that this school have NOTHING TO DO WITH NORTHBAY HOSPITAL. If I could give 0 I would. The only person that cares about you during the whole 32 day program is Miss Remy. Tessa and Jasmine both have terrible attitudes and could careless about you as long as you're up to date on your payments. They teach with old dirty equipment and if your aren't perfect during practice they act as if you are wasting their time. I was assigned VCRC as my clinical site with Remy and she was awesome! Super helpful, wanted you to grasp the information and didn't make you feel less than because you were learning. I wish I would of took my time and money to QUAL ED NURSING IN SUISUN CALIFORNIA. They offer testing at the end of your program, there site is clean and equipment is brand new. Totally worth taking my state board exam with them and I passsed on the 1st try. I went through this program to gain nursing experience and fulfill my nursing school application requirement. I am currently in a graduate-level nursing program, and I am so grateful to have been through the CNA program with Northbay Nursing Institute. I am more prepared than my classmates and understand what it takes to provide excellent patient-centered care, and I owe it all to the teachers at this school! I wholeheartedly recommend this school to anyone interested in the nursing field. I also passed my state board exam on the first try, which is a testament to the level at which they teach. I have gotten my CPR certifications updated by them and had to stop here to say how AMAZING they are and how much I respect their work ethic! They both retired from bedside nursing at San Francisco General Hospital, a level one trauma center with one of the toughest populations to work with, from drug addictions to homelessness to spinal cord injuries, you name it, they have lots of experience in the game to pass down to their students on what it takes to be a healthcare professional. The negative reviews on here upset me because it does not reflect how hard these women truly work to maintain a business while also driving the art and compassion in healthcare. Entire class but 1 failed, then they closed shop. The ladies that run this school also opened a place in Pinole by the name of Contra Costa Nursing Academy on San Pablo Ave. My wife and I thought it was great, being so close to home. It had the best location for us, so my wife went for it. Class of nine... one person passed the test from the state... 1 of 9!!!. Now they have closed shop and when my wife asked how she's supposed to practice her skills (part of the price of the school was use of facilities to practice) they suggested she go to Fairfield. The book they provided for an additional $20 was photocopies stapled together. Considering a pass rate of 1 out of 9, then quickly closing shop with no forwarning and suggesting my wife commute to Fairfield to practice, I feel like we have been conned. Very poor preparation for becoming certified. read more

My experience at Northbay Nursing Institute has been very good. From the time I inquired about the program to the final exam, the staff have been helpful, supportive and encouraging to me. The instructors are knowledgeable and truly committed to help us learn and pass the board exam. When I became extremely busy because of work, they encouraged and assisted me with make-up classes. If I could give zero stars I would. There's one teacher kadeshia who is amazing but all the others are horrible. They accuse you of false accusations and mistreat you. They told us who the worse students were and who there too 5 five students were which is very disrespectful towards the people at the bottom. Remy picks favorites and if you mess with her favorites it's over for you. I don't recommend going here or sending anyone you love here if you truly care about yourself and your future career. I think this business is very unorganized the teachers constantly showed up late or didn't show up at all. I Can honestly say that anyone who has a lot of negative things to say about this school is just an un happy person. This was a very good school to attend. The staff is very friendly and positive.The teachers are very passionate about teaching and are with you through every step of the way. They teach you but it is up to the student to study the material and practice the skills. They have a skills lab on sight and it is always available for the students to go and practice even after you graduate or even if your not in class. I took the month long course and graduated December 16th. The school scheduled the class to take the test for the 29th but I didn't feel prepared enough because I was working a lot while in school and didn't dedicate a lot of of time to study. So I took my test on the 15th of January and passed on the first try and I applied the skills and knowledge that I learned from northbay. Going in to take the exam is very nerve wrecking and anyone can fail from being nervous. Tip if you don't feel like you are ready then prolong your test to a later date and study as much as you can and you will be successful! Overall this is a great school the teachers are BSN nurses and know what they are talking about because of them I am now a CNA. read more

I had a great experience here at NNI and I used what I learned with not only the patients I help but also my loved ones over 80. I believe its your attitude that will determine your outcome and experience. this isn't for everyone and if you feel you have the time, money, and patience to learn then do take the class. I would do it all again. I've been a CNA/HHA now since 2014 and I love it. Taking this class was to help me gain experience for nursing school. Remy and Kadeisha were great teachers who genuinely cared for their students and the success of the class. When being "taught" by either Jasmine or especially Tessa, it is almost impossible to learn. They both hold negative attitudes and can be extremely demeaning and rude to their students. It is almost impossible to ask either of them any questions valid or not. I would not recommend anyone to go here especially for the $1400 they charge. There is a $700 program through the adult school here in Fairfield that I have heard positive recommendations from peers. Please invest in a school that really wants to see their students succeed and can treat their students with respect. North bay Nursing Institute first seemed like a great choice due to it being close to home, flexible hours and was the cheapest class I had found. Unfortunately, they are cheap for a reason. This school was so unorganized! Teacher showed up to class 1 hour and 30 minutes late, while we all waited. After I took my test, I received a call TWO WEEKS later saying I needed to have a live scan done. All this time I had been waiting for my license to come in the mail when they hadn't even sent it to licensing. I would never take a class here again, or refer anyone to this place. For $1575 you will be told how to teach yourself how to pass the state exam. The "book" you receive is made of photocopies, the class is mostly made up of very old red cross videos and reading the "book". If you're lucky, you'll have Remy to teach you the important things and you'll learn something. It is overall very unorganized, the classes are way too big and it makes it seem like the main concern is to make as much money as possible in one session and not how well students can learn. The other 2 teachers seemed overwhelmed a lot and their personalities are not those of good teachers. Having 3 or 4 different people teach our class was very confusing as each one of them demanded to do things their way. The equipment here is extremely old, broken, nothing works as it should so you have to pretend a lot. Inexpensive items like trash bags, gloves, towels, wash cloth are missing, old, dirty. We were not given the info that we are free to do our exam with red cross OR regional ( Qual Ed in Suisun ), one of the students found out. Everyone who took their state exam there passed and their equipment is very modern, clean, and in newer condition. Makes it easy to practice. Their entire CNA class is about $400 cheaper and they offer state exam testing at their school at the end of the class and also a refresher class the night before which is very helpful. read more
