My Land Rover wouldn't pass smog due to monitors not clearing. I worked with various garages and Land Rover to fix this over a year long period of time and no one could. Land Rover told me to sell my perfectly working 2013 LR4 for parts and ultimately ghosted me. A friend suggested North Bay Smog. I've been working with Mihran for the last six months on this problem. He's been so patient and genuinely interested in getting this fixed. In the meantime I had to involve The Ref of California to get a registration exemption as I continue to work on this. Getting an exemption was extremely tough for me and the only way they approved it was because Mihran itemized numerous work orders in great detail, which took a lot of time. Now I have another year to fix my car and will continue to work with Mihran to try and fix this problem. I'll always go to North Bay Smog for smog checks as well. read more

All I needed was a smog check and I found Northbay smog here, along with a coupon for $29.95 smog check. When I arrived I was told that the cost would be $72. Upon inquiry, I was told that the cost would be $72 if I used a credit card and $41, if I pay in cash, and that the $29.95 doesn't include a report (which is the primary-if not only-reason anyone would get a smog check). The work is perfunctory, but was completed in 15 minutes, as promised. But the deceptive pricing warrants a low rating. read more

Got my Acura smog'd here for the first time. They were very patient and willing to help me. I had installed some aftermarket parts to my engine and didn't have the necessary information. Needed a star station, googled, found them, called, told them I found them online, printed out their online coupon, and read the Yelp reviews, confirmed they were a CA-Authorized star station, asked how much for my 2001 Audi, he told me 40-something, that they could take me anytime this (Tuesday) morning. Rolled up, they saw me, waved, motioned me to drive in, I filled out 2 minutes of paperwork, we agreed on the $41 total fee (debit), he told me he'd be done in 15 min. Walked down the street to Joe's Taco Lounge, got 2 fish tacos and a glass of water, walked back after 15 min, car was done, it passed, and I was out of there. I went in at 9:00 on a Saturday when their website said they opened. The two guys who showed up at 9:10 pretty much ignored me (and the shop phone that kept ringing) until 9:30 when I finally asked them if the were able to help me get my car smogged. I arrived with their coupon, which they said they would honor, but it would not include the DMV reporting or a certificate. If you want that, it's another $20. And, the whole transaction has to be in cash. The final price was not egregious, but who wants to encourage such slimy business practices! read more

Why are all smog places a rip off? I walk in, with a coupon. Ask how much it will be presenting the coupon, 30$. Of course there are extra charges because the DMV charges them. So 8$ more for that. and about 3$ more for tax. So i say "around 40 right?" Answer "correct." The bill I get is for 65$. Makes no sense. Kind of standard from my experience for Smog places, but I just don't understand why they are all so shady! read more

Mid weekday, I showed up with no appointment, was seen right away, and the test took only about 10-15 minutes. Short enough time that I sat and waited there. The tech turned my car around, so I didn't have to back into traffic, and halted the PG&E work crew outside so I could exit easily. A nice extra touch. I recommend this place highly. read more

This review is actually long overdue. Our family has gone to Northbay Smog multiple times for smog checks. Every time, the customer service has been great, but the most recent time was truly above and beyond. I realized last September as I went to pay my registration fee that I was due for a smog check. Somehow, I just missed it. The larger problem, however, was that I had thrown my back out and couldn't drive my car without significant pain. As we live very close to Northbay Smog, I called them and explained the situation and they actually picked up my car and returned it to me. Obviously, this was not a routine service for them but as a returning customer in a tough situation I was deeply grateful for the extra help they provided. When I walked over to pay my bill, there was another customer there giving the Northbay employee behind the counter some vegetables from her garden, so clearly I am not the first recipient of their excellent customer service. :-) We will be loyal customers for as long as we live in the Bay Area. read more
