I failed a smog test on my Sprinter van, and they offered a second (free) test once the issue was resolved. It turned out I needed a software update and then had to drive quite a few miles for the system monitors to reset. I stopped by several times during the process, and Bill was incredibly helpful. He scanned the system in advance each time so we could tell whether it was ready to pass before running the official test again. That saved me time, money, and frustration. If you have a car model year 1999 or older. do your pocketbook a favor, and take it somewhere else. I understand that older cars require a tailpipe test, so it's a little extra work no matter where you take it, but you would be hard pressed to find someone that charges you $175 or more for a smog test. read more

Now you need to schedule an appointment. However you can't schedule online- you literally have to drive over to schedule an appointment and then drive back again to get your smog check completed. One star for attitude and service. Bumped it up to 2 stars since they did what they said they would, at the appointment time, for the published price. I went here because I had a coupon. This is part of the "ology" empire; "shinology" "carology" etc. They have smog stations, car washes, and repair shops all over the county. I first called the Northgate location, was told it was first come first served, so I asked if they could tell me how long a wait it would be if I showed up soon. I got one answer: "no", and then silence. I went to Lucky drive because they at least would give me an appointment. When I showed up, the attendant took my papers, then brusquely told me to "go wait inside". I said I would wait outside; she turned and walked away. A glance "inside" showed a store full of geegaws and junk food; it's my assumption that they would have loved to have me "wait" there. . . My car was parked outside of the garage during the test. At one point they left it running with the hood up - normal for a test - and I peeked over to look under the hood. The technician returned and brusquely ordered me to "get away from there". I can understand perhaps an insurance worry, but being ordered away without even a "please" or explanation - what can I say. When I signed to authorize the service, the attendant told me to sign and give my phone number - again, as an order, no "please" or "thank you". I said I preferred to not give my phone number - she just took the form and walked away. Throughout the transaction, no one even met my eyes or gave me more than the shortest, abruptest responses. I agree with others here who have said the price is awfully high; that's also true for their car wash at both the Lucky Drive and the 2nd street locations, where you are likely to be pushed to choose the more expensive option - no matter what option you choose, and even the "base" wash is pricey. I would have been OK with the price if the people had been civil and friendly and spoken to me with courtesy; I did after all get a smog test, done quickly and right, at the appointed time. But there are other options in the County; I think I'll go to one of those next time. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Went to go get a car smogged and when I got there, the shop was empty and there were two employees sitting, one on his phone doing nothing. When I asked them if they could do a smog for me, they acted like I was disturbing them, the one guy that was on his phone said he couldn't and was very rude about it. I work with a couple shops and have to get smogs all the time and will never take another car here again. TERRIBLE customer service take your car anywhere else but here. read more

Including everything, my smog and certificate came out to $59.95 for an SUV, which doesn't sound like a great deal. However, it did come with a $60 coupon for a "works" car wash at a Shineology location. Since I usually get my car washed there, this pretty much worked out to a free smog and certificate. The guy handling the smog was nice and professional. It only took about 10 minutes. They seem to be affiliated with the car wash place currently. I have an older car , 1985. I was turned away because the testing machine was broken , come back tomorrow. I came back the next day and it was another excuse. I gave up and went somewhere else. With talking to the technician at the other testing place , he told me that is a common lie because older cars take longer to test and they don't want to take the time . I spoke with a very nice person at the smog shop that got me in touch with Mark at Motorology. Mark was very detailed in explaining what the problem was and what it was going take to fix it. Two stars for actually doing the work, none for customer service or attitude, which is the worst and rudest I've ever experienced (at a smog station, at least). All they're interested in is getting you in and out - the rest is pure contempt (if you have a question, for example). I've been coming to this shop for years, but never again. If you have an older vehicle DO NOT take it here for a smog check. Inspector Gadget works here. He would give an aspirin a headache. I took my old truck here and it failed the test. So I took it to a garage and had a new catalytic converter installed. I brought it back to this shop to be re-tested, and it passed the smog test. But Inspector Gadget failed it. He sat me down and interrogated me about who had changed the timing on the truck after my first visit. I told him accurately that no one had. He said that the timing was not set to the factory standard so he did not pass it. The timing was the same as on my first visit and no one had changed it. I took the truck to another shop and it passed without a problem. On my visits I heard Inspector Gadget arguing with two other customers about similar stupid things. This shop is about twice as expensive as other smog check shops to inspect an older vehicle. read more

Arrived at station no one around then ten minutes later the technician got out of a car and continued to make small talk with person in the car finally asked me if I wanted a smog check and was told I had to be there by 5:30 so he wouldn't do it when I polnted out that it was 5:15 he said 5:15 is the same as 5:30. The coupon I had said open to 6p.m. This guy was really rude and told me to come back tomorrow. I don't think so. This seems to be related to the shineolgy next door so I went there and talked to the manger who said I'l Be right back. Twenty minutes later no manager so I left. I called in advance for an appointment and was serviced exactly at that time. They have a nice young woman who checks you in and handles the payment and paperwork so the tech is free to do his job.
