Thank you Dr. Dracker.*** If you're going to treat autistic patients, you need to understand something about autism (and I'm not talking about the negative list of descriptors found in text books.) When I took my two autistic children for a well child visit in August 2016, Dr. Awa proclaimed that neither child seemed autistic (this is after grilling me about what "concerns" I had that lead me to getting them diagnosed.) He also asked me about my current pregnancy; if I'd had genetic testing done. No, I had not, but that was sincerely none of his concern. We were graced with his presence again, a few days back. My son was in the middle of an antibiotic course for an ear infection in his LEFT ear, when he awoke that morning complaining of ear pain in his RIGHT ear. A nurse I spoke with at Summerwood assured me that he should come in for an appointment, rather than wait until my son finished the antibiotics. We were in the exam room for an hour. Waiting leads my autistic kids to experience anxiety. Anxiety leads to outbursts and potentially, meltdowns. No, Dr. Awa, my kids do not have behavioral problems (he asked me this), but they do have communication challenges. And yes, their behavior may have seemed extreme after an hour long wait, but behavior is communication, and what they were trying to tell you was, "you took too long, and we are stressed." Long story short, my son's left ear cleared up, but his right ear was infected. My son did let the doctor examine him briefly, but he was none too happy to do so. Dr. Awa did not recommend switching antibiotics, but did offer an antibiotic shot. We refused the shot as the exam room was in such chaos, and my son wasn't going to tolerate the doctor treating him. He told us that if my son still complains of ear pain after he finishes his antibiotics to return for an antibiotic shot. He also asked me, "what did you hope to accomplish?", by visiting the office mid antibiotic treatment. And furthermore, I had to explain to him more than once that the only reason I made an appointment was because a nurse recommended that my son be seen. I simply called in the morning to speak with a nurse; not necessarily to make an appointment.

The turnover for the nurse practitioners is extremely high. Nobody cares about you there. You can never talk to the doctor, he's always busy. I started to make a fuss so they send back a student...... I said no, at the very least I want to see a NP. Another 20 minutes went by and I left. I was really nervous for this change, but the new doctors and staff made me feel so secure about the transition and are always so helpful when I have questions. I've never left the office with more questions than answers. While I will miss Dr. Lapsker, (she was my husbands pediatrician when he was a child) I know that there is a whole team that truly cares for every single child. I also love how small the practice is, and I feel like my children get the attention they deserve. There are sick and well child waiting rooms, as well as specific times of day that certain ages get scheduled, ie: newborns only in the morning to keep the amount of exposure to their new immune systems low. The small steps they take to ensure the safety, care and happiness of each and every patient and parent is above and beyond. And any parent knows that is SO important when looking for a good doctor.

Let me tell it how it is - this place has too many patients and every Dr I have ever seen here needs sensitivity training and improvement on bedside manner. I was in a traumatic near-death accident in January 2024 and saw Dr. Malvasi as a follow up to being in the emergency room for hypothermia and he was honestly great and compassionate - but wanted me to see MY PCP Dr Clapper like a week later. I was bruised from head to toe still from my accident at that point, and I had questions about my lack of sensation in my legs, feet, arms and hands. I had to explain to the nurse what happened and what I was there for. In walks Dr Clapper - OMG WHAT HAPPENED? why wasn't she prepared? Why did I have to relive my trauma AGAIN when all of this should have been in notes reviewed before walking into the room. At this time, I requested to be moved to Dr. Malvasi's care because he had seemed so compassionate after my accident. My following experiences with Dr. Malvasi were less than ideal - I gained weight due to my depression and PTSD and when I saw him again he asked how I was doing and I said it had been a tough winter - HE LAUGHED and said I CAN SEE THAT BY HOW MUCH WEIGHT YOU GAINED! Real professional. Also, knowing that I had been in an abusive relationship and had difficulty with men - he thought it was also appropriate to make jokes every time I saw him asking if I was dating again yet. Not funny. The last two times I saw Dr Malvasi I requested a specific course of treatment. He said we could discuss that further in 3 months if I did xyz. I did xyz and went back at 3 months and was told CNYFC had new policy for this treatment and to do xyz and come back in 3 months. Right before my next 3 month appointment I received notification that CNYFC would no longer be working with the treatment at all - even though I had been doing what I was told for the last 6 months to receive this treatment. I sent a disgruntled response to the portal and the response I received was that I didn't know what I was talking about and "good luck finding a new pcp". So one time I disagreed with their practices and expressed it and they dropped me like it was nothing stating "consistently disruptive to staff". So a one time expression of dissatisfaction is "consistently disruptive"? Also Dr Malvasi asked at both 3 month follow ups if I was dating yet - still not funny. I really have found in life that when situations like this arise, comparable to being fired from a terrible employer, move on to bigger and better things. I'll find a dr office that doesn't turn people over like an assembly line and actually knows the appropriate way to communicate with patients. Btw I found a new primary care and had an appointment scheduled in less than a week. CNY family care thinks they can treat people like crap as if there are no other physicians around. We are committed to using medication only when truly necessary." However, they would rather deny a child these excellent treatments if the parents choose not to use excessive vaccine intervention. Even the AAP encourages not denying care to unvaccinated children, as that can lead to them receiving no care at all. Further their website claims "Our office is a safe place where you will be heard, and your values respected." This doesn't apply if your values and opinions differ from theirs.
