We were visiting a cousin in Binghamton while in-route to a meditation retreat in Quebec. I had phoned a day ahead from Bristol VA. A friendly man named Jim, said he would put my name on a Field and Stream 4 person Wilderness Lodge (tent) and hold it until we arrived. It was on sale from $160, regular price, to $120. I found the store and the people to be fabulous. The thinnish aisles filled with stuff would be any sportsman's dream. We went on to the retreat and set up our "Taj Mahal" as a fellow camper called it and slept quite dryly even during a rain. The tent included a 4x9' vestibule which was an outer flap which allowed us actually keep our suitcases outside the regular sleeping area. I extended a tarp from underneath the tent out the additional 4 ft for a nice vestibule floor where we removed our shoes before entering. Inside, 7' x 9' , we had plenty of room for two twin air mattress with sleeping bags. If I lived anywhere near the original Dicks in Binghamton, I would for sure be a frequent customer.

I showed them the voicemail I had from them and they said they don't do phone calls ."Oh it's from 2020 and Covid , that expired". Well when you buy good quality shoes you don't need to spend hundreds on shoes each year because they hold up and last! Sure I got the $10 Spring Sale discount. But needless to say I can get any of their shoes online at the same price or cheaper ,plus get miles using my travel credit card. Sorry but you should take care of ALL your customers, not just the really regular ones.

Would not have predicted that a shoe and boot store that we chanced into while in the area, is one of the best of its kind that I've been in anywhere, but it is : ) Much, much better than any we could have gone to we would have gone to back home in Brooklyn or anywhere in NYC. A large and well curated selection of outdoor wear, including a better selection of non-leather/all man made material than I've probably ever seen in one place. The owner could not have been more friendly and accommodating to us all, poorly organized and uncoordinated shopping units that we are, and the prices were a pleasant surprise to me. Extremely reasonable, no sticker shock, which I always expect and accept as part of buying things while on vacation and also my own lack of embracing the fact I still think it's 1982 when I look at what things cost. I usually like a boot and then put it back down after seeing the label, but not here. Buying shoes is generally a negative experience for me, much less when the whole family is involved, but I had a great time today and at least 5 stars to Foothills Shoe and whoever is responsible (Pretty sure it was the gentleman who was our salesperson). In all seriousness, especially if buying shoes is torture for you, this is the best outdoor wear shoe and boot store you will run into.
