Came out for cleaning and recommended a liner. had been to house multiple times but showed up for appt without a way to get to top of chimney and install. Once they returned to complete this, After installation noticed that the cap is crooked and appears installed incorrectly. Had to call twice for them to come back out. Again did not have proper equipment to fix this. And now have ignored emails and calls to come back to fix. We will have to take care of this ourselves. Will be finding a new company. read more

Paid $300 for a cleaning/ inspection that was incomplete. A second inspection showed large chunks of soot and debris still lining the chimney. It seems like this business has prioritized volume over value; they've lost the customer-focused touch that usually defines a good local service. This company is a nightmare! Five years ago they installed a fireplace insert. The "team" that came out was a joke. They tampered with my propane set instead of calling the company. It did not work right from day 1. I had them return several times to fix the unit. I finally called Northeastern and asked for a competent technician or they could take it back out. I thought it was properly dealt with but it wasn't. I kept smelling propane and would not run it long. I had an independent contractor come out who said my chimney to the unit needed to be extended beyond my other chimney. It seemed to help but when I started the system at the beginning of the heating season of 2025, there was immediately a strong propane smell that caused an immediate intense headache. I called another fireplace/ chimney company requesting a complete and thorough inspection of everything related to the insert and installation. After the inspection the fire insert was examined and determined the unit should have never been installed and I was lucky I did not have an explosion. I attempted to have a chimney cap installed. I contacted them in early October. I was told if it was a standard size (which it is) the technicians could install it in last October - but when they got here they had "just cleaned the truck" and didn't have it. After a couple of weeks of silence - contacted them again - set up another date. Another technician comes out - and goes I can't do that by myself - we will contact you - 3+ weeks later - silence. read more

This is the first time I have ever given a review but am compelled after the poor customer service I have received from Northeastern Masonry & Chimney. We thought we were going to have a good experience, however that has not been the case. The initial installation was a problem because water leaked in every time it rained, that was fixed. There was a manufacturing issue with the stove we purchased, after many calls and at least 2 service calls the stove was removed from our home in March. when it was returned in May, the leg was cracked and was taken back. To date we have spent over $10k for the stove and the installation and still don't have an installed stove. Basically we are being ghosted by the office manager. My last email was sent last week requesting A resolution by today. Still no answer and I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

I had originally given Northeastern Chimney a very good review on various on line rating apps, and they did an excellent job rebuilding my chimney from scratch. However I asked them to also repair a chimney on an outbuilding and there work was horrible. The bricks on the top of the chimney could re removed by hand. They were old bricks but experienced masons should know all you have to do is soak them. The bricks pulled all the moisture out of the mortar making it useless. Also the inside of the chimney had lots and lots of globs of mud which should have been smoothed out. When I called to complain and sent pictures they refused to even come out and look at the shoddy work. They said they would fix it when they got around to it. That was at least 6 months ago. I paid a lot of money for this work, I expect it to be done properly and to have follow-up on problems. Very, very poorly run company with uneven work. read more

My wife called them weeks ago. They told us we needed a new flue AFTER cleaning it! They told us the chimney needed pointing (we knew that already) and they would replace the flue with a round unit. Considering the chimney is rectangular, that was of no value. They wanted THOUSANDS of dollars for the job. Our neighbor was kind enough to look at our situation and told us other than pointing the chimney and repairing the cap, our flue is absolutely fine and you may use the fireplace. It cost us $300 to pay a mason to point and cap. My advise to all...don't call! read more

We had a very bad experience with Northeast. Installation was a disaster. The crew he sent were calling each other names very unprofessional. The finished product leaked since day one. Rusting spots on the stove. They were here about three or four times. Each time the techs would tell us. We found the problem all fixed. Next rain leaked again so bad we had to catch the water with a pan. We called Joe and told him he replied you will have to call a roofer. Finally we asked a chimney sweep company. The pipe was not sealed properly and he fixed our problem. Of course we had to pay! What a rip off this company is. They do not stand by there work or there products. read more

This particular system was only available for about 3 years. Great concept but did not work plus was impossible to clean. They installed a new system that works amazing. I scheduled an appointment and they never showed up. I called to follow up - thinking that maybe they had some issues and had to reschedule - and I was told they had no record of me at all. No name, address, phone number, or appointment in their system. I had spent a good five minutes on the phone discussing my needs, waiting for them to find availability, and then setting up the appointment. I have the calls logs & calendar appointment that prove I am not crazy. Maybe they do great work, but I'll never know :( Unfortunately, after waiting a month for my appointment to come due, now it's too late in the year to find someone else to do the work and I have to wait months for the weather to warm up. read more

I had these clowns come here to rebuild a chimney. What a mess they made! First, just dismantling my old brick chimney alone took them days because these guys are lazy and unprofessional. Instead of removing the old bricks and dropping them via a construction chute, or even just tossing them into a truck or dumpster, these slobs got a kick out of throwing each heavy brick directly onto my beautiful lawn, creating deep, muddy pits all over my front and back yard, and ruining my entire lawn. When I asked them about this damage they created, pointing out that it will now cost me a fortune to have a landscaper come and repair the mess they made, the big guy's nonchalant response was simply "Hey, we're not gardeners". I was furious, but they treated it like a joke. The actual chimney they built was another disappointment. It looks awful, weeps rainwater, and the cap - which is normally standard but which I had to insist that they add on (at a wildly inflated price, of course) blew off and went MIA during the first big storm we had. I've posted a picture of some correspondence I received directly from Northeastern Chimney following the job they did here, to dispute the owners' claim that he never did any work here. Had a chimney inspection of old house fireplace unused for many decades by NE cost $199. Never even looked inside the fireplace or the at the stack. Said they would include inspection fee in future work if played estimate for $1000 to clean out the fireplace. I asked for estimate to repair chimney stack and line, but after calling and emailing them several times they never responded. read more

Had them come and clean chimney, first time I had them. They quoted me 6800 in repairs with a discount if I signed within 10 days. This raises red flags with me. Sent a friend a list of what they recommend and was advised it was a scam. Wish I read these reviews I feel this company isn't trustworthy. I will get another inspection. Three days, two no-shows, one attempt to come early "due to a cancellation" --- more like I want to finish early and hit the local bars -- and some very rude and disrespectful behaviour, in addition to the unexplained no-shows! When they finally showed up, the contractors they sent didn't know why they were there. I was there just to open the house, the owner had a medical appointment, so I told him to call his office and find out that was to be done. I asked if he had a phone. His response: "Yeah. I gotta phone." He turned around an left the house with his companion. Next thing I know, they are leaving! Not a word. I couldn't believe my eyes and waited another half hour, thinking they were coming back; maybe they couldn't get a signal from the property. I had to laugh to myself when I read on their website the ridiculous line: "Our level of professionalism and skill has set us apart from so many other companies in our industry. I really wish I had read some of these reviews before I wasted good money on this company. One good thing, though- I learned a $300+ lesson - never ask a company to "inspect" and clean your chimney if they're in the business of selling wood stoves and chimney liners. These guys showed up with a drone and a camera to send up the chimney- pretty impressive - at first. But as soon as the lead guy Jesse got into his rap, I realized he wasn't there to service me - he was there to sell me - a new stove, a new steel liner - at a cost of many thousands. It started when he looked into the stove - he took a photo with his phone - "you see that metal discoloration there? That means your stove is not working properly, it's on its way out." But he was just warming up- when he sent his chimney colonoscopy camera up the steel liner, all he could tell me was how bad it was - his partner looked at the image on the screen and said "I've never seen anything like it." He then offered to rotary clean the chimney for $100 more, because it was "in such bad shape." Then a few minutes later he said he couldn't use the rotary cleaner because the chimney liner was "unstable." I could not believe I had to pay $300+ for this con job- and all I got out of it was that he vacuumed my stove. I get mad every time I think about it. read more

I purchased a Harman P68 and had it installed by this company some years back. I had a stove clean out /service by North East the season after purchase, but the service wasn't the best and found the the clean out still had ash in it. Why pay good money for sub par service? I now routinely clean the stove and pipe myself. Through the years I have needed stove parts and being North East is a Harman dealer, ordering parts should not be a problem but apparently it is. Last season I called for an thermostat and temp sensor and spoke to Brenda who was condescending and had no knowledge about the stove parts. Brenda insisted I check my stove manual for part numbers for her to research the parts needed for the order. Luckily I had the manual. On 01/06/2021 I called North East at 10:10 am in regards to a stove door gasket kit and spoke to Brenda. Brenda told me they didn't have any kits and would have to google what size the gasket rope was and would call me back. I gave Brenda my phone number and the wait began. After not hearing back from Brenda, I called North East at 3:56 pm and Brenda answered the phone. I informed her of who I was and asked about the gasket letting her know I haven't heard back from her. Brenda's response again was condescending and said she hadn't had the chance to look it up and then she hung up the phone. I guess they don't need the business and do not want returning customers. Brenda has to google parts. From now on I'll google my own parts and buy them cheaper online instead of returning here. North East Fireplace and Chimney, you just lost a customer. read more

I'm feeling bummed out about these guys. They are nice and I've had them out a few times. Last year they let me know that my chimney was unsafe and inoperable. They quoted me over $4000 for repair. I don't have that kind of money, so I didn't use my fireplace at all last winter. I had them out again a few days ago, to re-assess and see if I could get any help from my homeowners insurance. He said homeowners wouldn't help me, and dropped the repair estimate to $2800, if I do it right away. I decided to get a second opinion. The new inspector said that there is nothing wrong with my chimney. I really expected more from them. I'd recommend you get a second opinion for any expensive repair that they want to do. read more

We had Northeastern come in to inspect two fireplaces in the home that my husband and I just purchased. They ended up charging us almost $300 just for the inspection, and told us that neither chimney was operable. This was news to us as the people who we purchased the home from had fires often, and the house was just built in 1995. They quoted us $6,000 for a list of repairs that were needed. We had another company come in and take a second look, and they told us that our chimneys were in great shape, didn't even need a clean let alone repairs. Northeastern is a SCAM. read more

I recently purchased a wood insert for my fireplace and also contracted to have some chimney repairs done. My scheduled date of install was yesterday, clearly written on my paperwork. Nobody showed up! Nobody called! I called them to see if there was a window of time for their arrival and the girl who answered questioned "who" did I do this with because she could not find anything about it. Hmm, I told her "Joe", one of the owners. She told me me would get right back to me, but never did til later in the day when I had left the house after waiting for her call and just left a message to call her back, I even left my cell # but obviously she really did not want to speak to me. I am very disappointed in how they handled this situation. I will put a have to put a stop on my down payment and go elsewhere if they do not get back to me today and get my install and chimney work done extremely promptly. I understand mistakes happen but not handling them promptly and professionally doesn't work for me. read more

The people who came to inspect and clean our Wood stove and chimney were so friendly and quick, got here right on time, and gave me some pointers on how to use my stove more safely and efficiently. I had these guys install a chimney stack. The work was a mess from the start. They failed to tuck the flashing under the shingles properly. When I pointed it out the installer tells me "It's fine if you use enough silicone." Well it leaked almost immediately. Had them come out again. They saw it leaking and said it's fine. So when it leaked to the point of puddling on the floor, I called again. Their solution was to adhere tar and mesh to the roof around the flashing and they would have done it when the roof was wet. When I insisted they do a new installation correctly rather than cobbing it up more, no response. Given how poorly mine was done I bet many leak but people don't know yet. The leak is just slowly rotting their roof and rafters. read more

Trying to schedule an appointment for a simple chimney sweep and inspection with these guys is like trying to get a personal audience with the Pope. It's the beginning of summer. Shouldn't be the busiest time for chimney sweeps. I tried using their online chat, but apparently that is a service and they cannot schedule appointments. So, I wasted ten minutes chatting, just to get a "we'll call you" reply. Would've taken only a minute to fill out the online form for the same "we'll call you" result. Then they called me. Oh, wait, no, their service called me, and after wasting more of my time, put me on hold for someone who could actually schedule an appointment. Then, after I waited on hold, they came back on and said everyone was busy, they'd have someone call me back. Finally, someone called me back to schedule the appointment, but we got cut off. They didn't call me back. So, I will seek an audience with someone less lofty than Northeastern Chimney, the apparent Pope of chimney sweeping. read more

If you want wildly overpriced services provided by a company that uses scare tactics and possibly fraudulent practices to convince you to hire them, these are the guys for you! If you want to deal with a company owner who is arrogant, evasive, insulting, threatening, and ignores all your questions, Joe Shear is your man! If you want my advice, read all the 1-star reviews and take them to heart. I contacted this company because I was sucked in by their fancy certifications and the promise of video imaging of my chimney interior. Since I'd cleaned my own chimney for years, I already knew what the top of the chimney looked like. I assumed I'd get a chance to see this video (advertised on their website) or at least a series of pictures of the inside of my chimney. I wanted to see what wasn't visible and the video imaging idea was very appealing to me. Instead I was given only 2 pics of the inside, one of which was totally unreadable. When I emailed the owner, Shear, detailing my complaint, I received no email response. Instead I received a call from Shear threatening to send my bill to a collection agency! When I finally got a hold of Shear on the phone, instead of listening to my complaints which I had already outlined in a detailed email, he tried to change the subject by trying to convince me that I was upset because the chimney needed work! Then he tried to scare me with this lovely image: "If you have cancer on the top of your head, it's going to spread to the rest of your body." Are you kidding me? Who talks to a customer like this?!! The cost of the inspection and cleaning of 2 flues was $465.00. The cleaning of the flues was only a single sweep, which took about 5 minutes a piece and to their credit, they did do a clean job of cleaning out the woodstove itself. But this hardly justifies the price they charge without the video imaging. When I questioned Shear on the phone about the lack of video, he said 'it doesn't matter, if there's a crack your flue we don't need the video image'. Actually, it does matter - that's why I was hiring them. Also, they claimed they found ceramic flue chips at the bottom of the furnace flue although a trustworthy professional friend of mine had literally just tuned-up the furnace the day before and cleaned out that flue and told me 'there were no ceramic chips'. I surmised that these ceramic flue chips Northeastern presented to me may have been chipped off the top of the chimney flue by their guy who did the cleaning. Shear again said 'it didn't matter where the chips came from' but their cleaning guy told me he found them at the bottom of the furnace flue, exactly the place my friend had cleaned out the day before and reported clean! They also said the furnace flue needed a metal liner but every other chimney contractor I've spoken with has said it's unnecessary because the furnace flue never gets that hot nor does it build up the kind of creosote that a woodstove flue does. Northeastern's estimate for putting in 2 metal liners and rebuilding the top of the chimney: $8,800.00. I just had the chimney rebuilt and had a stainless steel liner installed in the only flue that actually needed it, the woodstove one, and the cost was under: $1,600.00. I will be reporting these guys to the Better Business Bureau. Avoid them like the plague. Shop around for a fair, honest company. read more
