After 3 months of waiting for Northern to get the part needed it finally showed up. They sent two men out to replace the needed door panel. My tenant called and said the door would not open and could not be locked. I called and they said they would send someone right out but after 30 days with no one coming out to fix their lousy repair job I called another company and they came right out a fixed the repair to my tenants satisfaction. Please understand that if you call them and they say they will "get back to you" they will not. They do not keep promises. Today they sent me a bill for the part and "service". First class service! Our overhead door broke on Sunday. I called and talked to Sean first thing Monday morning and explained our problem. He said they were very busy but would get a repair person out there the next day, Tuesday. True to his word, Mike and Blake came out this morning and not only fixed the broken door but lubricated it, tested it, set the safety perimeters on that door but the other one too. My garage door opener stopped working. Wall switch inside the garage and remote in car did not work. Wireless keypad outside of garage did not work. I called for service and was asked a few questions including whether or not I had a GFI in garage. I do and checked it out and found it had popped and disconnected power to the circuit that controls the Genie garage door opener. Reset it and everything started working. Their advice enabled me to avoid the cost of a service call and they refused my offer to send them some amount to cover the phone service. Excellent service. read more

One of my garage doors got destroyed by a foot slip, starting up the truck. I called Dave at No. Garage Doors for an estimate. But the first thing he asked about was if the tension was still on the springs! And within a short time he had a courteous professional over to dismantle the springs for me so I wouldn't get hurt or damage my truck or anything else. That was very very appreciated, let me tell you. Thank you both! .... THEN..we talked business. I sent the Insurance Company two bids, and Dave's bid was lower. He sent another pro, courteous as well, very polite, who in a few hours removed the old (I think it all went in his truck - it vanished, not a splinter anywhere!), and installed all new tracks and doors. He even programmed both new doors' control units and the wall panel for me! My doors look fantastic and they run very smoothly and quietly. I should have read the reviews! Find another company, I started the process of buying two garage doors in June. The doors were finally ordered on July 9 with a 50% deposit down. They weren't going to be installed for another 2 to 3 weeks. On Aug 6, they were installed, there was no invoice left and I did not receive any phone calls or emails. Then I am notified from the bank on August 9 that they ran my card for an additional $1012.99 WITHOUT my permission! I called the office while the charges were still pending in my bank account and talked with Sean his response was I ASSUMED it would be OK to use the same card without asking! I said absolutely NOT!, I only gave you permission to use my card one time for the deposit So the doors could be ordered. Shawn assured me he would reverse the charges and send me a statement, in the meantime my bank issued a provisional credit while they looked into it, I then went out of town. September 6 my bank notified me that Northern garage door still had not refunded the money that they took without permission on Aug 9. I spoke with Sean again on Aug 12 and informed him that I wanted to talk to the owner and if the money was not back in my account by the next business day I would be filing a police report because what they did was illegal! Miraculously the money was back in my account that day, although I still hadn't received a bill. The next day I spoke with Wendy... you would think that after a company screws up they would be apologetic... Not this company it was my fault that I didn't follow up to make sure that they did what they told me they would do after I called them the first time and told them that they screwed up... I told Wendy the same thing send me a bill in the mail so I can pay you out of the correct bank account. She was more concerned with blaming me and making excuses then actually trying to fix the problem. On Sep 16, I get a phone call from Dave the owner...supposedly my bank has now taken the 50% deposit away from them and he would like me to issue a check for the total amount as soon as possible... Interesting though my bank says that did not happen. Yesterday, Sep 19 I get a VM from Dave wanting to know what I have found out from my bank and when they can get their money. Today I FINALLY received the invoice in the mail that I requested,....it was a nice touch for them to write in red ink capital letters on the outside of the envelope PAST DUE and then to write it on the invoice itself also. Very professional, I called Dave back today and informed him that my bank said that his claims were untrue and they did not take the money out of his account. I voiced my concerns that the way I had been treated by his company was astonishing! He proceeded to tell me that he knows Sean tried to call me to see if it was OK to use my card...... Interesting though I did not have any missed calls, no voicemail and nothing on my call log from the phone company to prove that, and if in fact that is true why didn't he say that the first time I talk to him?? Not once have I ever received an apology for any of this, instead they have treated me like I did something wrong! During this process I have had to miss time from work to go to the bank to try to figure out how to fix what they caused... I have incurred 5 nsf charges of $35 each totaling $175... And if I send them proof they might take it off the bill. I definitely will not be sending them any of my banking information! It took me over a month to get my money back that they took out of my account without my permission and they act like they did nothing wrong. I got a price on a garage door with windows from a different company. It was well more than I had hoped to pay, so I got a price from a second company. That price was slightly better, but not much. I had resigned myself to getting a door without windows but was still disappointed at the price I would be paying for even a plain door. Then on a whim, I got online and checked with Northern Garage Door. Their quote was nearly $800 less for the door I wanted, WITH windows...and almost $400 less than what I was going to pay for a basic door without them. I was thrilled! I went into their location to double check my choices and their price and they were friendly and helpful. They followed up with me on their quote, something neither of the other companies did. I will say that after a few weeks of ordering the door, I had to call to find out when it would be in and installed, but when I called, they scheduled the installation immediately. They were on time, professional, friendly and informative and did a wonderful job. They would be number one for me to recommend (as a matter of fact, the door was installed today and I have already recommended them to someone) and I would use them again in a heartbeat. read more

Recently, my garage door was damaged and in need of repair. I called Northern Garage Doors because they had good customer reviews. The woman on the phone was nice and I scheduled them to come out to my house. Two technicians came over. I let them into my garage and went back into my house. About 20 minutes later one of them knocked on my door. He said they were done and the door was working. I was thrilled! I paid him $105 for the service and they left. I did not go out to inspect their work at that time. The next day I discovered that the button on the wall outside the entrance of the house had not been fixed. I called Northern Garage Doors and told them that. The manager, Dave, tried to explain to me over the phone how easy it is to fix the buttons. I told him I was hoping they would just come back and fix it since I paid to have the system fixed, but after multiple phone conversations with them, he decided he was not willing to come back to fix the button free of charge. His reasoning was that I did not mention specifically that the button wasn't working. I told him that I didn't think I needed to mention each part; I hired them to get the garage door working. It's a fairly simple system and I thought that the entire system would be checked, including the buttons that operate it. The technicians only made sure the button by the other door was working properly. Dave said he would charge another $90 to come back and fix the button - due to wear and tear on the trucks. I was really confused as to why a garage door repair company would not inspect the entire system, so I called two other garage door companies in town (one of whom told me Dave is actually the owner at Northern Garage Doors, not just the manager like he told me) and both of the guys I talked to said that they would simply come back out and fix the button if it were them. I wish I had gone with another company that actually stands behind their work; hopefully this review is enough of a warning to anyone needing service to choose someone else. This is kind of a mixed review. Basically I called three garage door companies to get a quote, including Northern. Not one of the three returned my initial call. One I didn't call again because of reviews, the second I did call again and they emailed me a random quote without ever visiting my home to see what we needed. When I called Northern the second time, I did get someone out to view the set-up that evening. He was friendly, and even noted that he would need to order a high-clearance track because of our door going into the house. I received a quote the next day. My husband and I decided to go with it a couple days later. I e-mailed in response to the quote and didn't hear anything for a few days. Hmm. I called again a few days later and finally got it ordered. About 3 weeks went by and I got a call saying, "I'm calling to confirm your garage door installation tomorrow afternoon." First, I didn't know the door was in, and second, we did not have an appointment. Due to some details this appointment wouldn't work for us, so we rescheduled for the next week. The installers showed up 30 minutes late, but did a decent job. However, a standard track was installed rather than a high clearance track, and our house door banged into the track when it was only 2 feet open. Annoying. They said their boss didn't tell them about it. I made contact with them again and they said they'd take care of it, which they did (but it was noted when the guy came out originally, so it shouldn't have been a problem to begin with). Long story short - we're happy with the garage door, but we're a little put off by the apparent disorganization within the company that caused repeated negative points in our experience. Do I wish the service was a little better? Yes. However, would I still recommend using them for garage door services? Yes. read more
