Northern Pike was our vet before we left PA and I can't tell you enough how grateful that I am to be back with them now that we are back in PA. No other place has come even remotely close to comparing with how far NPV is willing to go to help our family with fur. They are knowledgeable, dedicated and truly have the absolute most compassion and logic when it comes to doing what's best. They have always prioritized and come through in emergency situations and have gone out of their way to help us even on their days off. Dr. Martin, Dr. Angie, Dr. Tyler and Dr. Haggerty are the main vets we see there however I know all of their vets and staff are fantastic. Please read!!! This past weekend something happened that is every dog owners worst nightmare. My Rosie girl decided to jump off our back porch and fell about 15ft onto the brick driveway below. She immediately began yelping from pain. she only has three legs (missing the front right leg) so her chin, chest, and left leg broke her fall. She had some visible cuts and scratches that were bleeding but we were worried about broken ribs and internal bleeding. We called NPVH and they quickly got us an appointment. We took her in & they did amazing with her. They listened to us and our concerns and took us seriously (unlike the first place we went). Her xray and her ultrasound were negative for any internal bleeding which is a miracle. Dr. Thompson recommended blood work so we agreed and they found a tick related infection in her bloodstream. They stated that sometimes the platelets can be low with this illness so they tested her and her platelet level was 17,000 but normal range for dogs is between 175,000-500,000. When your count is low, it's harder for the body to prevent and fix bleeding. So basically had she been bleeding internally, she would've been dead within the hour of the accident. They've got her on multiple different meds to increase her platelet count and they are working! We tested her blood again today and I can happily say she's at 176,000 platelets! I've never been so scared. I thought I was going to lose my fur baby. If she had not jumped off the porch, we would've never known about her bloodwork and the infection which could've easily taken her from us. Something as simple as a trip down the stairs or a fall off the bed could've killed her. This place saved my baby and I'll forever be grateful. Never going anywhere else ever again!! They all were so comforting during the whole diagnosis and treatment process. All of the staff were so sweet to my girl. I trust Dr. Martin wholeheartedly with my 4 cats. She combines her medical expertise with wisdom, compassion, instinct, and listening skills, listening to the pet's owner, me, who may also have insight and a history of knowing their own pet and listening to the pet, noticing patterns and clues. She runs tests but what is different is that she doesn't just go by the test numbers. She uses the pet's history and her own experiences. She talks at length to me, the pet's owner, about what she is thinking -- of possibilities, of other cases similar, about possible remedies. I feel I'm in the loop as an integral part of my pet's care. And she likes animals. It shows. She has many of her own. She isn't the only vet there, of course. They are all worthy. I am just partial to her for her particular care of my eldest cat, Juno, now 18 or 19. And the rest of the staff is always gentle and caring with my pets. I would give zero stars if it was an option. We're relatively new to the area and our cat became suddenly ill, so we decided to look for vet options closer to our new home. We came across this place as it was nearby and had gotten decent reviews. We took our 3 year old cat in, found out he had nerve damage to his back which was affecting his bladder, and ultimately made the decision no fur parent wants to make. We made an appointment weeks in advance so we could be with our cat when he was put to sleep. When that day came, nobody knew we were putting him down. We were not permitted inside. We opted for cremation and a paw print memorial and paid for it on this day. As weeks went by, we called multiple times and left voicemails inquiring about when we would receive our things- all left unanswered. We finally get a call this week (a month after he was put down), just to find out the information wasn't relayed to the crematory, and we get nothing. This was already an emotionally difficult time, and their miscommunications, unprofessionalism, and absolute lack of compassion has me writing my first ever yelp review. Wont let you in room to put pet asleep.Made a 6pm appt to put pet asleep (an excruciatingly painful decision) . At 6:30 i stopped a tech in parking lot asking whats going on as we are sitting here. Then the vet phones us to tell us no one is permitted inside the office when the animals are being put to sleep. She said she cant risk it with Covid. I pointed out I had been in the office twice in the last couple months as my IWH dog was too big and they needed assistance getting her in the room so I know exceptions are made. She insisted she wont allow us in but will put the cat to sleep alone. Does not matter if your vaccinated or masked. Obviously Im not letting my pet spend its final moments alone with one who lacks compassion. This is a tale of 2 pandemics. The vast majority of us continue to grocery shop, work and live and then the few removed elites live in a separate world where they wont allow you to hold your pet while it dies. Beyond that You will pay a few extra dollars here compared to another vet and the Veterinarian is pretty cold and lacks bedside manner.. read more

Great veterinarians suzanne and Annette Had both Treated my dog last year go for not going to bathroom regularLy This year dentAl cleaning and the shakes. The pooR little guy injured his back. So lAser therapy was key These are two great vets to have on your side They are compassionate and take the time to discuss your animals problems however long it takes Dr Suzanne performed the dental cleaning and she was thorough and extremely concerned about his follow up In this day And age, it's nice to have them helping our friends in need who can't always tell what ails them. Dr Suzanne took the time to do a thorough exam on my dog max and detected a bad back confirmed with X-rays. Kudos to her I treat my pets as extensions of me .. appendages which are a part of me and not as accessories to be taken lightly. Husband Falsely Accused of Swearing at Receptionist Over the Phone Unreal. My husband just received a phone call from this practice stating that he swore at one of the office workers when making an appointment to spay our puppy. My husband does not treat others this way. He explained to the office manager who called him to address this that she must have the wrong person. She stated that she would have to "continue to investigate." Incredibly offensive. We saved her the time and trouble of "investigating" by taking our business elsewhere. I can't say enough about Dr. Martin and her staff and the way they have taken care of my dogs. I have never had a problem getting in to see them when my dogs are sick, even if they have to fit them into a full schedule. They always do a thorough workup and will address the problem right there and then. This might mean leaving my pet for a few hours, but i would much rather have that than have to take them home and bring them back for treatment another day. All of the Vets and staff answer all my questions, they really care about the pets and their families and want to provide the best care for them.. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. read more

If you try to schedule a first time appointment at this facility, be prepared to make a $75 deposit before you even meet Dr. Martin, or any of the other Vets. They won't guarantee that even if they say you can come in for your visit, that you can. If they are "busy", you will have to leave your pet with them even though you never met any "professional" and you will be charged accordingly. Their office staff Christa, and the one that was so sarcastic who hung up on me, needs an old fashioned lesson in Dale Carnegie, and how to address people. They promised that they would check with Dr. Martin, called back, but filled our appointment because we would not leave a deposit before it was confirmed we would even have an appointment. They no long apparently have live people willing to answer phones. Don't. Just don't. We went in for a routine check up and were there for 3 HOURS. Yes, 3 hours!!!! With our puppy inside!!! You mean to tell me someone was supervising my 5 month old puppy for the two hours he was indoors? Definitely not. Don't schedule appointments if you can't accommodate them or at the VERY least reschedule. Once we finally did hear from the vet she prescribed us a "preventative" medication. When asked what it was for she couldn't even give us a straight answer. We told her we weren't giving our puppy the medication then she got an attitude with us for no reason. So far so good. Had Dr. Sechrist. Brought my adult cat in for vomiting and diarrhea. He solved The problem quickly with injections and recommended food. I didn't have to wait too long in the exam Room before being seen either. The only downside Is the cost, but it is what it is; I don't believe anywhere else would be much better without sacrificing the quality of care/treatment. They take care credit, which is nice, So that eases the pain of a $500 bill. Also, it's a very convenient location close to my House (yay). I hope to not have any more issues but I'll come back here if I do read more

Very kind people and veterinarian. I took my foster kittens here for bad GI issues and they helped resolve the issue right away. They also do a lot for animal charities which is another fantastic reason to support them. Wish I lived closer to come more! read more

I am not the type of person who typically writes a review (either good or bad) but I am compelled to share my personal opinion of Dr. Martin (she truly is an angel here on earth), ALL of the vets and EACH AND EVERY ONE of the vet techs and staff. We have been bringing our dogs here since we rescued our first Doberman, Ella, in 2010. Ella is now 13 years young! During those early years, we mainly visited only twice a year for shots and routine checkups. But as the years passed and our dogs have grown older, we have been spending much more time here, getting to know everyone and everyone getting to know my dogs. During Covid this practice DID NOT TURN ANYONE AWAY when other vets wouldn't take new clients. This practice would stay as long as it took to make sure each of our pets got their full attention and the best of medical care. THIS PRACTICE goes way beyond the "extra mile" in taking care of my dogs and my 14 year old Dobie mix Angel would not be alive today if it was for Dr. Martin's dedication and determination to keep her (and all of my dogs) healthy. Also, at this practice EACH vet is aware of the health problems of each and every animal that comes through the door. If "your" vet is out of the office and you have an emergency, any of the other vets is in a position to take the best possible care of your pet (THAT, in my opinion, is truly a gift). Many of the past reviewers do not like the fact that sometimes you have a long wait or that you cannot go into the office with your pet (happens to us, too). If you, like us, don't live that far away, you can just drop off your pet, go back home and they will call you when you can come and get your pet (or, you can always just got and get a cup of coffee somewhere). I PROMISE you that they are taking the very BEST of care of your pet even though you are not with them (and sometimes your pet might even do better without you in the room). I am so sorry for those of you who feel you have had a bad experience with this vet practice and I hope that you can find a vet that you feel comfortable with. It is very important to maintain a good communication with your vet (and staff -- PLEASE do not take your anger/frustration out on them -- they, too, want only the best for your pet) and if you take your pet for regular check-ups, spend time talking to your vet and listening/learning from what they tell you, you and your pet will have hit the "jackpot" in being able to keep your pet healthy for as long as possible -- I know that I have, and I would NEVER take my dogs anywhere but Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital for treatment and for the love, compassion and care they show not only to my dogs but to my husband and me as well. read more

This is some BULLSHIT! VADAR didn't show an ounce of aggression during his initial visit. 2 of their staff got on the floor and played with him a little. No staff member showed any fear or hesitation towards Vadar. When the wife called to schedule his follow up appt, she was blindsided by the vet. During the initial visit, the vet went on a rant about the Cane Corso breed. She told the story about a lady in California that was mauled to death by 2 Cane Corsos. She continued on with false information about the breed. I bit my tongue until she was done and calmly said that her information was wrong. The dogs that killed the lady were Presa Canarios. I also told her that he was our 1st Cane Corso and that I researched the breed very throughly because we had young kids. We have also had a Rottweiler, English Mastiff and a Boxer. My family has had large dogs all my life and that my father was a K9 officer for the county police. After all that she told us that they need to see him in May for a follow up. She asked that when we bring him, we should come in the lower entrance. They usually see big dogs in their downstairs office. They feel that it is safer for everyone. Then we received a letter saying that her (vet/owner) and her staff did feel comfortable treating the Cane Corso breed. She also said they have major reservations as to this breed being in a neighborhood setting. I normally don't post when I feel that I have been wronged. But when you have a professional giving false information, it is reprehensible! read more

I have two dogs and a cat that I take to Northern Pike. We've been clients since we got our first dog, so it's been a little over four years. I'm very happy with the service we get at Northern Pike. We've seen all the vets and they've all been wonderful with our pets. They've also been really good with my kids-- including them in pet exams (letting them listen to the animal's heartbeat) and taking the time to reinforce good care of the animals and responsible pet ownership. I appreciate that. Both dogs were neutered at Northern Pike, a male and a female. Both surgeries went well, no complications. All yearly appointments are thorough and they take the time to listen. Dr. Homison discovered a renal problem in my cat just by listening to me and ordering the proper bloodwork. He's now on a special diet that I order through them. I've never had any problems getting an appointment with them and once even used their housecall service, a van they bring to your house for the appointment. Their office hours are long and they'll let you pick up your pet after hours as well. The only issue I've had is the special food for my cat. The ordering process was never clearly explained and there's been some confusion over that, but I'm willing to work with that in order to keep the stellar care for my pets. read more

I got a call from Dr. Judy on 10/19 saying that my dog's kidney levels were high possibly due to her pain medication Galliprant.She needed to get IV fluids to flush out her kidneys. I was told another vet, Dr. Martin, would be taking her home to closely monitor her due to her heart condition. This was my first time having Dr. Martin take care of her in the 14 years she's been going there, but I was initially grateful for the extra care. Over the course of the few days she was kept, no one reached out to me for updates and I had to call multiple times to check on her myself. Fast forward to Thursday 10/22, there were talks of her going home but I spoke with Dr. Judy later in the evening and was informed that her rate of breathing worsened and that she needed oxygen. So she was going to stay another night. I asked if I could see her and was told no. So I went to bed wondering if I was going to see my dog again. Then the next morning at 8:30 AM Dr. Martin called and told me my dog passed away, "around 3 or 4 in the morning." I was bothered that I wasn't informed earlier of her passing and I was not able to see her one last time. Dr. Martin told me she did everything that she could but I did not receive any condolences. And then she told me she'd be in at 3 PM and that's when I could see her. After finding out at 8 am, I had to wait seven hours to see my dead dog. I do believe Dr. Martin tried her best. She cried also... but ultimately the lack of communication and not being able to see my dog one last time, after asking, hurts. She explained why I wasn't able to see her after the fact, but I feel they were downplaying the seriousness of her condition at the time. At 3:30 after I saw my dog and talked to Dr. Martin, I had to ask about what to do with her remains, have a long wait time for her belongings to be collected, and after receiving condolences from the tech was then immediately asked how I'd be paying the rest of the bill. I was taken aback. For almost 14 years I've been a loyal customer and trusted them highly with her care but this experience was the worst experience of my life. I never received a follow-up or any type of condolence call or e-mail. Nor did they offer any guidance or resources to cope with the loss. I honestly hope this isn't how they treat all their customers. I felt like going through this whole process I was treated like just another number. read more

This place is the worst. I brought my cat in to see why she was pulling her fur out. Dr. Martin told me that she had Kidney disease and a urinary tract infection and wanted to keep her for a few days to run some test and treat her for that. I gave her the O.K. to do blood and urine samples and run I.V's. Four days and $2000 later they tell me that they have no idea why she's pulling her fur out and they gave her the wrong medicine for her infection. Meanwhile I get her home and she's sick as a dog and she's having trouble standing up and walking. I dropped off with them a happy healthy Kitty and they gave me back a sick decrepit animal that was severely injured and traumatized. This is a third rate pet doctor operation that demands to be paid top rate medical doctor money and they are processing way more animals that they can handle because all they care about is making that big $$$. read more

I have taken our dogs to a number of veterinarian's and NPVH was the best. They showed a lot of empathy for our dogs and were open minded to the method of treatment. Everything was transparent; we knew what was being done and the cost before they proceeded. They made the rx drugs affordable because they gave us the prescription and we sought out the best price whether locally or online. We feel we were able to prolong the lives of our pets via their care and our input. They responded immediately when our dogs needed accute care. You can't put a price tag on that. Your wait time for the apt can take longer than you would like, but consider the fact that they try to accommodate emergency walkins and take as much time as your pet needs to get the treatment they deserve. read more

I've been taking my animals for multiple years to see Dr. Bill and Dr. Haggerty. Up until recently, I had been very satisfied with the care received. They ARE a little pricey, but they are very experienced, and Dr. Haggerty has an Ivy League degree - better than my own personal doctor. Last week (8/18) my cat was feeling ill, and I took her in as a sick visit and we saw Dr. Judy, who I have not interacted with. Dr. Judy did a reasonably thorough examination and we agreed upon doing blood-work and starting her on liquid flagyl. By mid-week, it became apparent that I did NOT have enough medication to finish her script length. When I called in, they left a message for the vet and I received a voicemail message stating that I need to bring in the medicine and syringe to show them that I am dosing the medication correctly. When my boyfriend went in the next day, they made him pull up 1ml of medicine to "prove" that he knew how to do it, and was dosing appropriately. (I understand why, but they definitely gave a rude vibe when telling us we needed to come in). He NEVER saw or spoke to a vet during this visit, only a vet tech. She stated to him that they would mix him up more medication to finish the script and that they would "check him out" up front. My boyfriend explained that we had already paid for 15ml of medicine that we obviously didn't receive (for whatever reason), and it seems absurd to charge us again. She stated to him that they couldn't prove we didn't get enough medication, since all the paperwork states that we received 15ml. Because we NEEDED to finish up the 7 days of antibiotics, we paid the additional ~$10 for the medication, but I can't believe that this whole ordeal was handled as it was. We ourselves double and triple checked that we weren't misreading the label, instructions or the syringe (we weren't) prior to even calling the vet. I understand that people make mistakes, and of all possible mistakes, this isn't even that big of a deal. All I wanted was, "We don't know how this happened, we apologize. Here is the additional medication you need, we won't charge you the $10 for that." Instead, I was effectively accused of losing ~8 ml of medicine or somehow double dosing a squirming, drooling, angry cat (I think I'd remember that.) And asked to PAY AGAIN for a medicine I already paid for, after I'd already spent over $250.00 for the appointment. If you had asked me last month, I'd tell you how wonderful this veterinary hospital is. Now? I don't know if it's worth the extra money anymore.. they don't handle mistakes very well. read more

If you have an animal that is sadly at the end of its' life and needs to be put to sleep, DON"T look to this place for empathy or compassion. I used this vet for the entire 19 years of my cat's life, and when she needed to be put to her final rest, I believe we were both treated with disrespect and coldness. I was not permitted to be with her when she took her final breath, and for no logical reason. They brought in my bill (!!) to be paid before even bringing her lifeless body back to me. Our experience isn't over yet, but I'm a fan so far. Our lab was clipped by a pick up truck today and we were rushing to A-vets when we turned too soon. Luckily, they were awesome enough to help us! They worked quickly and were extremely compassionate. They let us stay with him until they took him in for surgery. Dr. Martin and her staff are fantastic. She even took him home overnight (with our permission) to keep an eye on him and keep him well medicated for pain. We'll know more in the morning but thank God they dropped everything to help us! read more

I wouldn't go anywhere else. We've taken our dogs to NPVH for 25 years. It's true, they typically run late but that's because they don't rush the process with the pets or the owners. Never on time. Owner is rude. Appointment at 6:30-as a responsible adult I arrived 5 mins early. Sitting in a waiting room now and it is 7 pm. I am literally googling vets in the area so I can switch. DR. Bill is great but no one is worth waiting for every time you make an appointment. Unreal who they don't value your time in the slightest. My cat Lily had to be seen for personal reasons (my cat is a very private person). The technician bonded with her immediately, Lily was comforted by this lady, Lily displayed no distress whatsoever. Dr Haggerty explained the process to me in laypersons terms so that I understood. She also was very kind, loving and attentive toward LIly and me. She recognized my comfort level, or lack of it, and explained that my presence was not required for the procedure. Before I took Lily to the Vet, her tail was NEVER up, and she was grooming herself excessively. 24 hours later Lily's tail is now totally up, and she's a happy girl. I am a happy girl, too, and so is my wallet, at their very reasonable pricing, worth it at the twice the price. My cat family are all fans of this veterinarian practice. We have been using this practice over 15 years, and always have had positive experiences. Kudos to everyone in that practice!!! read more

The doctor we have seen is wnderful. However every time we call in we are told we have never been there or they have no records for us. We have a binder that has all of our animals information in it. The staff has made a copy of it 3 times...and they still can't find us. Not feeling like we will be staying with this place and that is sad because the docs are wonderful. read more

We take five pets to see Dr. Haggerty and are satisfied with her care. On the flip side, I do agree with the reviews about the cost, and I agree with the negative comments about Suzanne Martin. Today I called early to get an appointment today, and the receptionist said "Hello." I thought I had the wrong number and asked if this was the vets' office, and she snapped "yes." I identified myself and asked if one of our dogs could be seen today at any time. The answer was "This is Presidents Day and we are booked." I asked for our dog's records so I could take them to another vet, and she said they had to be approved by a doctor before they can be released. She was "snippy" but did say she would call me when the doctor signed off on the records. If the vet has time to review our dog's papers, I'm sure she could fit in a brief appointment. Beware of this "Veterinary Hospital", I mean seriously watch your money. I took my pet to Dr. Cory Sechrist. I initally had a problem with his behavior as a puppy and this doctor put him on prozac. I then took my dog to a private dog trainer and all of the issues had been worked out. I have a perfectly calm and loving dog. BUT, this Vet brands my dog as aggressive! I was shocked. I took my dog to him because my dog wasn't eating, and instead of maybe drawing blood to see if there was a problem, he orders X-rays charges me $500 and then tells me nothing is wrong with my dog. I then took him for his yearly checkup (which costs a ridicules $205) and he diagnoisted him with Lyme disease. Maybe that is why he had no appetite when I took him earlier? It was MUCH MORE PROFITABLE for them to order $500 of unnecessary X-rays. Then he prescribed medication for Lymes disease and told me that he would fill it at his facilities because it was so expensive at a Pharmacy. He charged me $108 for a presciption that a Pharmacy would have charged $72. I could have had it filled through the internet for $50.04 less!
