Since our sweet Bailey and Jameson passed in June, 2024 and September, 2024 we haven't needed veterinary care. That being said, our sweet boys were patients of Dr. Maura St. John for their entire lives (14+ years). She and the other vets we saw at Murrysville Veterinary Associates, when she was not in the office, provided excellent care for our dear boys. DO NOT GO HERE! They put my dog on Apoquel for his severe allergies and it helped so much. Due to the pandemic and recently moving out of state, I was unable to get him in for his 1 year health check. I went to fill his script with Chewy and they wouldn't fill it and never informed me that they wouldn't be able to. I told them I was moving last month but knew Vets were really booked up unless it was an emergency and they emailed me his records. Apoquel is a medicine you can't cut off cold turkey (last time he missed two weeks he developed a Staph infection which this location treated). I called asking if they could fill a one month script until the Vet appt and they said no. IM SHOCKED! I've been a loyal customer and how the front desk woman handled the situation was APPALLING. Our experience at Murrysville Veterinary Associates was a communication disaster from start the finish. We had wanted to get a dental cleaning done for our dog as he was 7 years old and we could see that his teeth had some tarter. We also noticed that he seemed to be favoring one side of his mouth just a bit (not for eating, just with harder toys and treats) so it seemed like a good time for a cleaning. We were told that Charlie needed to have a checkup appointment as a new client so we had one scheduled. Due to COVID restrictions, my husband had to stay in the car while they checked on Charlie in the clinic. My husband said that Charlie was in the vet for less than 5 minutes and when the vet, Dr. Schumacher, called to let him know how the appointment went, he said that Charlie looked very healthy and had no issues with his teeth. In fact, he said he wasn't sure why we wanted to get a cleaning done for Charlie but understood if we wanted it for preventative measures. I was immediately concerned that we had paid $66 for a comprehensive checkup and Charlie had only been seen for a few minutes. I called the office and was told I would receive a call back. Dr. Schumacher called me and informed him that were concerned by the lack of attention to detail as the reason we had wanted a dental cleaning was that it looked like Charlie was favoring one side of his mouth when eating. Once I told Dr. Schumacher that, he suddenly said, "Oh yes I appreciated that". However, he never once mentioned it to my husband after the initial checkup. On the day of the dental cleaning, the drop off process was smooth. However, I received a call from Dr. Schumacher later in the afternoon stating that a tooth had been removed. Based on the size and importance of the tooth (upper carnassial) I would have expected to be notified before it was taken out, especially after being told that Charlie's teeth looked great. He said that the tooth had a fracture and that it looked like it needed to be removed but that the dental radiographs and x-rays didn't show any issues with the roots/surrounding bone area. I thought our issues had ended there but when I called our pet insurance provider with some questions about reimbursement, I was told that Dr. Schumacher submitted a report that stated that Charlie had dental disease and therefore, would be ineligible for future dental related procedures should we decide to end his policy and re-enroll. Never once was dental disease mentioned during our phone calls with Dr. Schumacher. I called the vet and asked for Dr. Schumacher to call me back. I missed his initial call back and listened to his voicemail. In it, he says that he noticed bone loss in TWO teeth and that's why two teeth were removed. We were told only one tooth was removed and never once were we told that there was bone loss in any teeth at all. I called Dr. Schumacher back after receiving the voicemail. I asked him about the two teeth being removed when I was told that only one was removed (and only saw one removed tooth). He hesitated and then "rechecked his records" and retracted saying that he observed two teeth with bone disease but only one had more than 50% bone loss and therefore, only one needed to be removed. I reiterated that I was never told that he had more than one tooth that had an issue and was never told about any bone loss whatsoever. In fact, I was told that other than that tooth, everything else looked perfect. He stated that he doesn't give clients every single detail of what his procedure and thought process is. I informed him that I was not expecting a play by play of the procedure but that a tooth with bone loss is something that should be relayed to a client. I find it ironic that on the website it states that "Dr. Schumacher has special interests in communication.." when that was the biggest issue we had. Perhaps the other doctors at this clinic have better communication but I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their pet. read more

These guys are MUCH MORE concerned about shaping and running their practice to their most convenient way for the staff than they are to service customers and care for animals. It's all about their protocol rather than try to help an ailing pet and stressed owner. Had taken my dog for regular check ups for 10 years. When he tore his dew claw and was in serious pain, they could not find the time to help him. " we don't do emergency visits , take him to an emergency clinic ". So here I sit looking at a 6 hours wait to get my buddy some care and relief. Do yourself a favor and find a practice that truly puts animal care first. Not these people. read more

Fine if you're only going for annual appointments but if anything happens in between you're screwed. This has happened twice where I call and ask to have a doctor call me back to discuss a problem and I get no call back. There is absolutely no communication happening between the staff. They also won't let you see a different doctor so you're out of luck if your doctor isn't there that day. The doctors are thorough when we are there for an appointment but it's not worth the hassle. This week in particular I called and emailed pictures of an open wound on my cat on Monday. Tuesday I was told my cat may need antibiotics so I gave them my availability for an appointment and they told me they would return my call with a time. I emailed and called since then and never heard back. Today (Friday) I called and someone finally picked up however I STILL don't have an appointment. We'll see if they call me back. I'm not holding my breath. read more

Arlo the Bully Pup and I have been here twice. Dr Miller was our vet for an alarming issue when Arlo was only a couple of months old. She was the perfect combination of bedside manner and doctor. Arlo liked her and I did, too. 2nd visit was a routine puppy well visit and vaccination visit. We saw Dr Ackerman and liked her very much, as well. The staff are a happy bunch and seem to know their jobs. All are efficient and friendly. The facility is brand new and quite lovely. There is even a small yard out front to get your business taken care of before or after your visit. Plenty of parking. I feel like my puppy is important to this team and I'm glad to begin a new relationship with this medical group. read more

I've been coming to this practice shortly after they opened having used these vets at their prior place of employment. My primary vet is Dr. St. John, and I think she's wonderful. She won't try to "sell" you unnecessary procedures. I've found all of the staff to be wonderful and caring. I've also had experience leaving messages and have gotten a return call within the two hours that they promise. Highly recommend. read more

We have been taking our dogs to Drs. Ackerman and St. John for years. They and their staff have been wonderful to work with, knowledgeable, professional, and supportive. They always take the time to talk to us about our dogs and any issues we may be having, to explain and make sure we understand any treatments or procedures. We've owned many dogs over the years and seen many vets but we've never been more satisfied then we are with the quality of care we receive here. read more

I started taking my pomeranians to Dr. Ackerman about 2 years ago. I was looking for a reproductive vet to help me breed a few litters. At first, the practice was very responsive and helpful but lately, I have had several problems either with a delivery or a puppy and the practice has been unwilling to see my pups. I'm told that my Dr. is not in the office or that she is on vacation and none her partners will agree to see her patients. They refer me to AVETs or PVSEC, emergency animal hospitals. I don't know what is going on at Murrysville Veterinary Associate but they have left me and my pups without adequate care. read more

I wish there were more stars to give. I have worked with all 3 Drs and much of the staff. Last week my Jake was extremely ill and even with a pack schedule they not only fit him in but made us special, from a care and emotion perspective. Dr St John our regular Md is great but on emergency saw Dr Ackerman who literally squeezed us in and took all time necessary when we were there. When he did not recoup we did another emergency visit the next day and saw Dr Miller. Dr Miller took time to explain a very difficult situation to a very emotional person (me) in English like terms. Also they only did tests necessary and when Jake needed 24X7 care they did not take tests in their office so I would not have double fees. Very concerned about my pet, me and costs. Finally the wonderful care extended beyond Doctors. Everyone there from reception to vet techs all worked as a holistic team. I wish all the best to this wonderful new practice.
