I have been using Monroeville Pet Hospital for over 8 years now. Nobody is extorting customers to use their pharmacy. My cat needed medicine and their pharmacy had it but the nurse suggested I use another pharmacy because it would be faster than waiting for it to come in the mail. The doctors and nurses are all very nice and have never had a bad attitude when I was there. Sometimes the other party is the problem! read more

Dr Oster is the best diagnostician I've been involved with in 30 years of rescue and pet ownership

I would suggest you not use this business. I had an issue with one of the nurses being rude and argumentative. Mostly about them extorting us to use their online pharmacy. They hate chewy and have issues with people who use chewy's pharmacy. Aggressively hate chewy. It's actually kind of weird how much one of their doctors trash talked chewy. So I said I would speak to a manager about the issue the next day and then the nurse exaggerated the issue to such a high degree to try and cover for her rudness that when I spoke to the manager they said it was fine we wanted to leave the practise. I never said that. I said if we can't resolve the issue, we would find a new practice. So she lied to cover for her rudness. Instead of getting both sides to the actual story, they just decided that rude employee trying to cover their ass were in the right. I noticed that other reviews that I should have checked first that attitude with customers seems to be an ongoing issue with this business. It's a pity because other than one kind of weirdly aggressive doctor trash talking chewy and this one incident with the nurse, we were satisfied. Make sure you READ the bad reviews of a place, too. They might be more of the truth than the business likes. read more

I used Monroeville Pet Hospital from Sept. 2006 until our dog's passing on June 10, 2024. We unfortunately had to make the decision to let our dog go instead of making her suffer from kidney failure. The ENTIRE staff couldn't have been nicer or more compassionate. My husband and I were quite upset when we arrived with our sweet dog and they were so incredibly kind to get us in a room right away so we could be alone with our dog instead of out in the waiting area. Dr. Oster was on vacation that week and the doctor who was filling in (Her name escapes me. I wasn't quite thinking right that day to remember her name.) was very kind during the whole process of putting our sweet dog to rest. The following week when Dr. Oster got back from vacation and learned of our sweet Willow's passing she called to see how we were doing and express her condolences. She expressed what a sweet dog Willow was and listened to me about every thought that I had about missing her and people bothering me about getting a new dog and how much that bothered me. She took so much time to speak with me when she could have rushed me off of the phone especially when there was nothing in it for her because we don't have any other pets that she is taking care of for us. We have had the best experience with Dr. Oster over all of our sweet Willow's life. She is knowledgeable and compassionate even though it doesn't come across that way to people who haven't experienced her for as many years as we had. You can't go wrong with seeing Dr. Oster. Not only do I miss our dog, I miss seeing the entire wonderful staff at Monroeville Pet Hospital. read more

We have been using this practice for the past 9 years through 3 dogs and 2 cats and they are absolutely wonderful. All of the staff is friendly, kind and makes us and our fur kids feel welcome. Every single time that I've had an urgent need to visit the office, they have found a way to fit me in. I want to address some of the negative reviews about Dr. Oster's personality - they are flat out wrong. Yes, Dr. Oster has an Eastern European accent. Yes, she is a strong woman. And yes, she will be frank with you about your pet's health and your options. Through the years, I've gotten to know her fairly well and there is a very caring, funny personality behind the slightly stern exterior. I have seen her filled with worry trying to rule out illnesses for my one senior pet. I have had very difficult conversations with her about prognoses. I have experienced her spending a significant amount of time with my pet(s) and me, taking the time to get to the bottom of our issues. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else - in fact, we drive 30 minutes one way just to keep using this practice. read more

It's difficult to be objective when it's your pet involved so reviews can range from great to awful depending on how your furry creature fared with the veterinarian services anywhere. I write this objectively having used this venue for 2 years now for three cats, all senior-aged at this posting. Treatments have ranged from the normal wellness visits to teeth extractions, and diagnoses of hypothyroidism and cancer. I recommend Dr. Oster as the vet of choice at this venue and the 5 stars is for her service and not other veterinarians here. While she has what many consider a tough demeanor, I do believe she is forthright on any care she gives my pets. I often find myself asking her "If it were your pet, what would you do?" and I get honest, direct answers, no sugar-coating. I happen to like this style but If I were distraught and in tears over the potential outcome, I may cringe and wish like heck there was some sugar-coating. As it is, her job is to offer the best care while also giving me full knowledge in advance of the cost and potential outcome so that I, the pet owner, can make a fully informed decision. I don't think I could do better for the care of my pets. read more

When my cocker spaniel was diagnosed incorrectly by two area veterinarians, a client told me about Dr. Oster. She was the one who was experienced and knowledgeable enough to know that our Tanner did not have animal bites, it was MRSA! Once that was established, he was made as comfortable as possible through the end of his life. The other vets did not provide any antibiotics or pain meds, which obviously had him endure much pain. We will not go anywhere else! More recently, our one kitty took ill with acute kidney failure; but again, with proper care and medication, Nala is alive and well. Early diagnosis, prevention, and persistence has her truly better than she's been in years. The office staff is caring and loving towards the pets, and have always been helpful and sweet to me as well. read more

Our cat suddenly stopped being able to use her back legs, and we called at least six other vets who were not able to see her for at least two weeks! Monroeville Pet Hospital made time for us the same day -- within an hour! -- and we brought our kitty in. Everyone was very professional and compassionate, even when we thought the worst was going to happen. We did not have to wait long and the vet tech and vet were both great and extremely loving and respectful when checking out our cat! I cannot recommend this clinic and Dr. Mansfield enough! He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and realistic, and quickly found the problem. Thankfully, our cat just has a fracture that should heal on its own! They called the next day to check on the kitten and answer our questions, which was tremendously appreciated. The price they charged for the appointment and x-rays was very reasonable! I thought we would be spending twice what we ended up paying. Overall, we are extremely impressed and happy with the services we received, and have found our new vet!! Dr. Oster has been my dog's vet for a few years now and I always feel as though he gets great care. She's compassionate but no nonsense, gives it to you straight and doesn't coddle or mince words. The rest of the staff are also very friendly and knowledgeable. I don't know about other vets to compare prices but I've never considered changing. read more

I have used the services of Monroeville Pet Hospital for a few years. Let me first say technically I have no complaints with Dr. Oster medical skills. Having said that rating Dr. Oster for bed side manor on a scale from 1 to ten is a zero. On every occasion she has always been somewhere between rude and brusque; has never slowed down for dialogue or listening with pet owner and generally abusive and abrasive enough to not only alienate customers but also with the staff creating a rather toxic work environment. There are other fine vets (at least one) who work out of Monroeville Pet Hospital but because Dr. Oster runs the business and sets the tone I have taken my business else ware. Zero stars, let someone human care for your pet. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I am new to the area and was needing special prescription dog food. After meeting the requirements for this office (prescription faxed from previous vet) this office promised me over and over again that the food would arrive the next business day and I would get a phone call when it got there. Not only did it not arrive the next day but there was no phone call. In fact, when I called the next day I was given excuse after excuse from the front desk and the office manager. The food finally arrived the following business day and I STILL HAD TO CALL even though I was promised they would call. How poor! Needless to say I will not be continuing with this vet for further assistance on anything especially my pet! read more

Found in Yelp: I give no stars. Make a long, sad story short, my dog had tumors which were growing. When we brought him in the first time, they took a biopsy and said it was not cancerous. They kept growing. We went back a second time a few months later, they did a biopsy and found nothing. We asked Dr. No Personality if we should have them removed and what the risks would be, seeing that he is 11 years old. She said he may or may not make it through surgery, she wasn't sure. She said to keep observing it. We also asked the cost of surgery, having it removed and sent out for testing, which came out to about $1800. We asked if we could make payment arrangements if we decided to go that way and they flat out said no. There was not one ounce of humanity in her voice, or that of any other staff member in that office. There was no compassion, no "love" for my baby. They never went down to hug him or talk to him or make any of us feel as if they cared. But they sure did care about getting paid. Needless to say, we went for a second opinion at VCA Fox Chapel. Not only did they diagnosis my dog with a malignant tumor, YES IT WAS CANCER, but they said it must come out ASAP. They took such great care of my baby, took the tumor out, meds, he even got his teeth cleaned all for under $700 oh and we got to make payments. Unfortunately for my sweet baby, the cancer has spread and there is not much we can do now but wait and keep him happy and comfortable. Could things have been different for him if this Nazi Doctor caught this early and helped us through this devastating time? Could she have been a little more compassionate and not care so much about getting the cash up front??? We will never know. I highly recommend you run, not walk, but run from Monroeville Pet Hospital. read more

I waited to give this review so that I was sure the pain of what this horrible money hungry woman did to my cat had time to heal and I could post a more fact driven and less emotionally driven review. I went to this vet because it was recommended by a neighbor as having the best dental surgery suite in area. Maybe they do but the disregard for the welfare of the beloved pets you bring to them isn't worth it. My cat had her kidneys completely shut down due to Dr. Oster using Metacam - which has an insert in the package stating that it should not be used on cats due to the chance of acute kidney failure!!! I deeply regret not questioning her on what she was going to use prior to the surgery, but don't we all think that a vet or any doctor for that matter, should know what they are doing? In this case, I have to wonder if she did it on purpose to get more money. A $900 surgery turned into 2 years and 2 months of intensive care that ticked up well over $3000 in expenses (I stopped counting) - first three days right after surgery of bringing the cat to the office to be given fluids intravenously to try to bring the kidneys back online - and what a horrid thing that was. Day one and two went OK, day three they called me and said "you have to come get the cat early, we have to close the shop up". Not only did she not get the full amount of fluids she needed that day, but when I went to get her, they were in such a rush and must have terrified her so badly that she had pissed all over her carrier blanket - which they handed to me in a plastic bag, said "so sorry, we put a pad in there for her" - which was too small and she was standing in urine. On another follow up visit when they had to take a blood and urine sample they were gone with her too long, when they came back the new vet tech said "oh we had a hard time finding her bladder" - the cat was in agony for weeks after this visit, I was terrified to bring her back - they hurt her hips and her bladder. I told them about it when the blood suckers called me to schedule another 3 month follow up - told them that the cat was now so terrified of going to them that she would run into a corner of the room and piss herself when she saw the cat carrier. Did I get an apology? Nope, just another call in three months to bring her in again. I kept going to Dr. Oster because she knew the history of the cat and I needed someone to continue to provide prescriptions for the fluids I had to buy and give to her every other day, and every day towards the end. I had demanded that the doctor contact the makers of Medacam as I had found out that they would sometimes help with vet bills and I wanted to be sure it was recorded what had happened in hopes of helping stop the use of the drug on cats. She did, told me she got a case number and never said a word about any money - I will bet you if there was any given, she arranged to have it for herself. Why? Because even after she admitted it was her fault, even after she said she wouldn't use Metacam on cats anymore in her practice, she never once offered to give any discount on the many many visits I had to have for this poor, gentle and loving cat because of what she did. And when the end finally came when the cat was in such agony that we had to take her to be put down - you would at least have thought she would have said "this one is on me" but no, that money hungry soulless woman actually charged us over $100. She was pretty upset seemingly, during the procedure, most likely because she was crying for all the money she was no longer going to be able to get now that the cat was finally dead. I loved that cat more than I have ever loved any of our pets - she was unlike any animal we had ever had - came from an abusive home to be rescued by us and yet was so full of love that she never wanted to be far from me. I cry for her still and beat myself up over what happened because it isn't legal to beat up the woman who did it. But I can certainly post a review here to warn everyone else to stay away. This vet is only interested in the money. If you love your pets, don't take them to her. read more
