Northern Tool, it's not just a hardware store, it's an adventure! Nothing really fancy but plenty of extra-medium to go round. Inside the store there's everything from super spendy special purpose tools to the "single use disposables" so decide how much tool you need and what you're willing to pay to get your chores done. Clothing options include boots, socks, safety and outer wear, and boots; trailer accessories, blocks, tackles, and lights; welders, torches, helmets and hand tools; shovels, barrows, wire, and so on and on... I like this place and would be here more except that means something else broke and I'm fixing it. Not a whole lot of "helpiness" to be had in the store, more likely to get the "where" than the "how" or "what" than "why". If you don't know what you need they probably don't too (and you've seen it!) So come on in and have a look, you'll probably have a bigger to do list when you leave. read more

John and Linda in the service parts and repair department are not the best at their job. First, red flag should have been getting a call back within an hour of dropping off my item to tell me that the repair had been done. northern tool has wasted enough of my time. So I'll sum this up by saying, cranking something up, then shutting it off is not testing it for proper operation. Then, when you have to go back behind and redo your own work, don't express your dislike about doing such to customers. read more

I really appreciate their repair shop. I had a problem with my pressure washer and spoke with the wonderful lady there in the repair shop. I told her what it wasn't doing and she had me bring it in. It was working like brand new a few hours later. Thank you for saving me money read more

I just had a bad experience with a tool I bought and it broke before one minute of use. I tried to return it or exchange it for a new one but all I got was being blamed for not having used it correctly in the repair and parts department. But it doesn't end there but the employee called the manager and then between the two of them they made me feel like I should go straight to the orca for being a bad operator. Terrible attention and worse customer service. Just like the large amount of crap they sell there. I will never set foot in that store again. read more

Northern Tool is sort of the "what I'll settle for when Harbor freight isn't available nearby". They're very similar in their offerings, though I believe the prices are a bit higher. They even present things in a somewhat higher quality way to make you feel like you're getting better stuff. However, in terms of quality, I'd say it's on par with Harbor Freight. On that note, this place is the broke handyman's dream. You can find about anything under the sun in terms of repair stuff and tools for cheap. It's a quick fix when you need it at an affordable price. They have anything from blow torches to full welding kits, reflectors and replacement tires for trailers, pressure washers and generators (just to name a few gas powered items), protective equipment for working with your hands, air compressors, power tools and hand tools and on and on. This is a non-exhaustive list capturing maybe 25% of what they have to offer. Again, all at affordable prices but oftentimes at the expense of quality. Nonetheless, I will definitely come back. Sometimes it's like being in a candy shop for grown men. Service has been hit or miss. On my last visit the woman at the counter was helpful despite the fact she couldn't help me - repair services are only available on weekdays from 8-5 when you're at work. At other times they've been slow to answer the phone and weren't entirely friendly. Also, aside from the inconvenient hours for repairs services their open hours are short. If I needed an emergency pipe wrench at 9pm on a weeknight they will be shuttered. They also close at 5pm on Sundays. Whereas Lowes will be open until 10pm weeknights and 8pm Sundays. read more

Ordered a tool box off their online store on 10/30/19 then finally had it shipped on 11/15/19 and won't be arriving until 11/25/19. That's 26 days after purchase.. Most likely they forgot to ship my order after purchase which quite frankly is unacceptable after spending over 100$ on the thing. I only hope the tool box was worth the wait. read more

This is why I usually read reviews before I go somewhere - 2 star average for this place; and yes customer service the reason! I usually go to Lowe's or Home Depot, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted. Went online and found at Northern Tool, purchased and got shopped to store. Went to pick up around 10:30 AM; walked in store, there was a guy standing at a computer to the right. I walked up and he did not even acknowledge me, just kept banging on key board. I asked where is customer service? His reponse, "we don't have a customer service, just ask someone at the check out." I walk to cashier area, 2 employees carrying on conversation and again don't acknowledge me. The guy at the computer says; "can you help this guy with an internet order. The lady then says, "I don't know nothing about internet orders and mumbled I don't want to know about it either." Like I couldn't hear the dumbass. Then she yelled for some else to come help me. Other lady walks up and said what's your order number? I just showed her order information on my phone. Then she looks at me and says, "what's your name." I said it's right there on the phone along with the order number you asked for. She then walked over area where they keep orders and says she doesn't see it. Then she says to the same people up front, "has anybody seen this order?" At that point I just said, just go get the manager. I then told the manager how I was treated. The first dumbass at the checkout then piped in and said, that's not what happened. What a joke, this is obviously how these people earn money and then act like that! I bought a new 5x8 trailer there recently. The lights stopped working properly. I called and spoke to the manager and he simply told me sorry...there is nothing we can do. Ridiculous. If you are looking for a trailer, please go to Lowes. They will honor the warranty. read more

To the customer complaining about being late but not let in the store. Dwayne try to look at it from another standpoint , retail people get in early & stay late, a lot of times work off the clock we work hard all day servicing our customers and when it's time to close that means we are closed. There's so many other things that have to be done before we can go home. Emergency is one thing but poor planning on the customers part is another. Northern Tool is a great place to go for serious tools. It's not big-box style home improvement store, it's more of a place for professionals (or serious do-it-yourselfers) who need heavy-duty tools and equipment. The tools themselves are equal or better in quality to Home Depot or Lowe's in-house brands, and generally 20% cheaper. They don't carry lumber, paint, or other raw materials, so you'll still have to go to Home Depot for that stuff, but if you need air compressors, power tools, pressure washers, etc, come here and save some money. Don't expect anyone to be readily available to answer any of your questions (Although the employees are pretty knowledgeable if you manage to find them.) They also have a LOT of online inventory that they ship to the store for free. I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 2 because of the great savings. read more

Just called this store to get an estimate to get my riding mower repaired since they have mobile service. I called twice and both times the phone to the service department just rang and rang and rang till it was finally transferred back out to the main store. Both times I asked to be transferred back to the service department and was put on hold a total of over 10 minutes both times for a total of over 20 minutes of my time wasted on hold before I just hung up. The second time just as was getting ready to hang up, a girl answers the phone and says "He's not answering his page, do you want to continue to hold?" I said " Hell no, I don't want to hold any longer, I have already been on hold more than 20 minutes with this store" and I hung up. This is no way to run a business and you just lost possibly several hundred dollars or more in parts and service work, but I doubt if anyone at this business cared anyway. read more

I like this place. Staff is friendly enough, and they got a lot of stuff. Prices are good. I only gave it a 4 stars, as when I went in, they could have used more staff. Had to find someone to ask a question of a tool, then had to wait for a cashier to come to the register when I was standing there for a few minutes. Do not trust Northern Tools Price comparison policy. After ordering a Nitro Cat 1200 K 1/2 inch Air Impact Wrench From them I noticed Amazon was selling the same wrench for 25 dollars less. I called Northern Tool customer service and asked for a refund according to their price comparison policy. I was told Amazon is an auction business and they do not compete with them. I told her that the wrench was not offered as an auction item and was sold just like northern does business. All my previous dealings with Northern had been stellar so, I was very surprised. Amazon is not an auction site. Am afraid that Northern Tool will not receive any more of my Business and anybody I can convince to be wary of them. read more

Lawn mower service there sucks. They fix one thing and break another. A manager "Richard" was as ignorant as he was useless. They couldn't even figure out how moving the drive clutch lever pulls the cable. Seek repairs elsewhere or buy an owners manual... you couldn't do worse than these guys. read more
