Location is wonderful for folks visiting Northfield and associated colleges, the neighborhood is quiet. The breakfasts are FABULOUS. Normally, I grab something and dash, but the Inn and the breakfasts served gave me an opportunity to take my time, enjoy the food, and sip coffee before my day began. The sleeping rooms (we stayed in #3, which has a big bay window overlooking the gardens) was comfortable and cozy for two people. The bed and bedding was first rate--we both had restful nights. Because we were escaping a heat wave at home, we spent as much time as we could on the wraparound porch, wishing we had one at home. Andy, our host, was kind enough to serve his very nice breakfasts on the porch. It's clear that a vast amount of thought and care went into every detail, making for a wonderfully pleasant stay. Good breakfast. Cons: This hotel has clearly been updated but not maintained well. The ceiling in the lobby bathroom is leaking and has a bucket catching the water. There is peeling wallpaper, cobwebs in the corner of the room, and a dingy shower tray. There was a large spot on the carpet of our room that was wet and got my suitcase and socks soaking wet. The nice patio overlooking the river closes at 10pm. Also, not to be "that person," but we are Marriott Gold Elite, and typically there is mention of that during check in, a note about the free upgraded WiFi, etc. Not only was there none of that when I checked in, I was initially told at 1:30 that it would be "1-2 hours until your room is ready" because they were busy. When I mentioned that this would be past the check in time and that we had a wedding to get to, I was told I was free to get changed in the lobby bathroom.
