Waste of money. Although it looks good the refrigerator never worked well and is VERY loud. Since it's installation, less than a year ago, I've replaced both motors (I have side by side), both gaskets and a fan. When it's humid the stainless steel covering the freezer portion has condensation build up to the point it pools on the floor. If you don't want to go all the way up to SubZero try GE Monogram which I have in another home and is quiet, efficient and work perfectly. read more

Northland builds refrigerators for both industrial (laboratory), commercial (restaurant/bar) and home use. We purchase a 48" Cabinet model for our dream kitchen in 2005. We loved Northland's simplicity (no ice/water in the door) heavy duty shelves and simple design. So many refrigerators with all the fancy storage options have TERRIBLE space utilization. Anyway, we woke Sunday morning to find the temperature in our freezer was 40 degrees. We are pretty handy and figured out that the condenser fan was not working. We set up a box fan to supplement the cooling of the coils. A few hours later, we were back to a satisfactory temperature so we bought ourselves time to place a non Sunday emergency repair call. We called several appliance service companies this morning and it turns out appliance repair people don't like working on cabinet refrigerators. The company we purchased our appliances from had also offered service but has since gone out of business. Out of desperation we finally called Northland. We told them what was wrong and they told us what part we needed and offered to walk it through to their shipping department to get it out TODAY so we can have it before the holiday. The Northland repair tech was pretty impressed with our temporary fix and our diagnostics of the issue and said 'you sound pretty handy, you could fix this yourself'. He explained what we needed to do and offered phone support if we need assistance after receiving the part. It is nice to find that 8 years after the purchase that you are still happy with the company. This was an investment and not just a refrigerator. It is built into a wall of cabinets and has a custom front, so it would be a challenge if it needed to be replaced. It was nice to find out that we can also purchase an entire new cooling unit if need be in the future. read more

I bought a northland separate freezer and refrigerator. 2 units Built in Now 2 years old. They were expensive but not as expensive as subzero but perhaps I made a mistake in purchasing. My freezer door has not shut properly since it was installed. Had someone out to fix it. Slightly better but often door is not shut well and it defrosts on me. Ugh! Now my fridge has stopped working. Luckily my old fridge is! Got new parts for free but needing repairman to install them. They knew the problem. Something burnt out! Augh and the veggies don't last as I believe they would have. read more

A waste of $9,000 for a refrigerator and freezer. Noisy, built like it came from a 7th grade metal shop class, not dependable, the interior light was not protected (when you removed something from the top shelf, you could hit the delicate light, not stainless steel (magnets would not stick to it. Many repairs. The metal cover over the hinge screw was not attached, so it would frequently fall off. I'm donating them a buying Sub-Zero products. read more

My northland 48" built in frig is a piece of junk...not even a year old and I've had 4 ice makers replaced... My veggies spoil after one week and their customer service is horrible. It also sounds like a Mac truck! Never again will I purchase anything made by this company! I hope this helps someone else to not make the same mistake I did! read more

I bought the Northland 60WSSS because I wanted a separate freezer and frig and wanted a large frig. The freezer has worked without a problem. However I have had three outages for the frig, twice for defrost control replacement and the latest time the thermostat shorted out. Because I am 50 miles from nearest factory-authorized technician it is a chore getting them to come out. This last time here is the Northland response which basically says you are on your own once it is out of warranty: Unfortunately, if it isn't under warranty we can't provide any information about the [service] call. They aren't obligated to keep us up-to-date if the call isn't warranty. I can tell you that we don't have any record of a parts order from them, but they could have ordered from a local distributor. We bought the Northland 48 inch refrigerator-freezer in 2003. Today is the fourth time that the same part has failed. The refrigerator side is room temperature and the freezer side is refrigerator temperature. The company had sent a notice to my service man stating that the part that he keeps replacing is faulty. They keep redesigning the part, but obviously they cannot get it right, as the part corrodes, shorts out and freezes over. I sent a long letter to Northland in September 2014, with pictures of the faulty parts, copies of their letter admitting the part was faulty, copies of my three repair bills, and a request to pay for these expenses, as my warranty said that the part was covered for eight years. I got no response. I will call them tomorrow and ask them to send a new module, as advised by my service man. He said they owe it to me to replace it for free. Wish me luck. I think I will get nowhere with them after reading all of the negative reviews. read more

Stay far away from Northland. Very poor product and customer service matches the product. Frig and freezer both were not properly insulated resulting in black mold on wall. Multiple product failures. Response from company...there is nothing we can do read more

This is the NOISIEST refrigerator that was ever manufactured. I just spent almost $3000 (with labor) to have a new Northland module replaced in my old 18" unit. The noise from the compressor, that is in the front, is driving me crazy! It rattles against the metal grill and permeates my entire studio apartment. I had no other option to purchase another unit by another manufacturer as my entire small kitchen was designed around this 18" model and no other manufacturer makes one that size. My unit was always noisy and I was told, after my old compressor conked out, that with a brand new module I wouldn't be troubled by noise. Wrong! You would think that after years of negative reviews about the NOISE LEVEL of these refrigerators, Northland would have worked on redesigning them. I just don't get it. If you are even considering buying a Northland, I would urge you to look elsewhere. All you have to do is just read the negative reviews. I believe the company was bought by Marvel/AGA so be sure to do your research before getting stuck with a real lemon of a refrigerator. read more
