I've visited this store several times and am always amazed at the great selection and knowledgeable and friendly staff. We had been looking all over town for a southwest style outdoor sconce and this store had the best and biggest collection. We bought one. A while back we brought home some pendant lights we'd bought there and found the blown glass shapes didn't quite fit so we returned it and the saleslady had ALL the boxes with this particular light brought out for us to try to find a better match. It worked and we went home happy. Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco just don't seem to have that much selection. If you really want to see what's available in the lighting world, this is a good place to start your search. read more

I waited for help for 25 minutes today for assistance. I left without being acknowledged after they wasted my time by avoiding me. I had 7 light fixtures to purchase. Dining, four sconces, and 2 exterior. I am not sure what they were all doing on those computers, but they didn't have time for floor customers. BTW I am an interior designer with a retail location in another town. I know for a fact this is not the correct way to treat potential clients. I went to another lighting store and spent a good chunk of money on this condo project lighting. My rating of their business is as low as I can give. This is exactly why people are resorting to Amazon purchases. read more

This was the 2nd store I walked into today to look for bathroom vanity lighting. Unfortunately, I got the same reception at this store as the last store...No customer service. When I walked in, the only salesperson I saw was sitting at her desk. No greeting. I walked around for a few minutes and the saleswoman started helping another couple. I walked around the entire store and did not get asked by anyone else if I needed help. I walked right by another gentleman (salesman?), who was on the computer, and did not ask if I needed help. Another couple walked in and the saleswoman asked them right away if she could help them. I said " I was never asked if I needed help." She asked the gentlemen if he was busy. I told her that I was out of time and left. Just like the last place, I will never be back. I guess buying online is now my best option. read more

Spotty customer support and poor attention to detail when ordering products and this resulted in unnecessary customer expense. Company unwilling to assume responsibility for correcting issue they helped create in this customer's view. As with any project, recommend shopping around before purchase. When you start running out of home design options, you might start considering looking abroad (from Phx). Whenever we're in another town, I look up stores such as this along the way... There aren't too many lighting stores in Tucson, but we happen to come during one of their huge sidewalk sales (employee said it's about every 4 months). We got a $500 entry foyer light for $90... steal of the century for us. Two months later, looks like they keep a few tables of clearance items outside but nothing like the sidewalk sale we had experienced. But until all our lights are in, we'll keep swinging by whenever we're in town. For you road trippers, keep your strength up. A local favorite, El Guero Canelo (famous Sonoran hot dogs) is only 1-2 miles away. read more

You know what I like about Yelp, Im figuring out what people mean and what it means to me when I'm looking for that particular store or business. I read some old reviews on here about this store that described it as snotty. You know what, I like snotty because that equivalents to high end lighting fixtures and to me service. I came in and met Javier Camacho. He was polite soft-spoken knowledgeable and just about the sweetest man you'll ever meet. This store has a lot of floorspace to look around you'll be here a while. I got what I needed when I came in here & some other things he didn't have we're still working on. But the amount of service and the politeness is what really counts and this store has it all. read more

Needed a replacement glass cover for a broken chandelier lamp. We tried to order the replacement on line, went to four other stores in Tucson. The piece was not available. At two other lighting stores, we were told that they simply did not have the replacement and they could not help us. Javier at Northside lighting was only too happy to help. Northside Lighting did not have the replacement piece but Javier took my name and number and researched until he located the correct piece. He contacted me, provide the model number and part number and price. We bought it and were able to replace the piece. In future if we have any lighting needs whatsoever, we will return to Northside Lighting first. The customer service was exceptional and went well beyond what would be expected. Went in to find out how to buy or order replacement ceiling fan blades. After waiting for several minutes while 2 employees just ignored me, a man finally asked what I needed. Explained that I needed to find or order replacement fan blades. He was very abrupt and was not helpful at all. I simply tried to ask a couple of questions but he was not about to respond with a helpful answer. I have not had someone in retail be that rude in a long time. Will not be returning to Northside Lighting ever again. Absolutely no customer service. read more

The customer service at Northside Lighting is beyond poor. We needed a lighting kit replaced on a fan we purchased at Northside Lighting, which was covered under warranty. It took nearly 3 months for the kit to come in. Ken was the sales representative who with worked with. He kept telling us it would be 2-3 weeks for the order to arrive. After several times hearing this same update (now 4-6 weeks into the process), we called the main office (which is in Phoenix) for a direct update. In doing so, we learned that Ken had never placed the order! We will never consider buying another product from the store. Integrity is non-negotiable for us. read more

I walked in here about 8 minutes before closing time on a Friday. You can be sure they weren't excited about that. I told them what I was looking for and the sales person took me right to the perfect lamp. She said they were returnable, but when I took them home, they were so perfect that no return was needed. She was professional (even at that last minute on Friday) and helpful. After a bunch of stops to regular stores that also carried lamps, I wish I had come here first. read more

Customer Service, uh, no. So keep in mind that I am talking about a $22.00 light fixture here as you read this. i bought a "spot light" fixture, small, sits on a shelf or the floor etc. last week and they didn't have the color I wanted so I took it in a different color with the understanding that, if it didn't work out, I 'd return it by Tuesday this week. Well, it worked well but the color was not right and I brought it back to exchange it. They had said they would need to order it, taking 4-6 weeks. I asked if, while I was waiting for the new lamp, I ccould use the one I had bought and the owner IMMEDIATELY said "NO!" Now I would have agreed to sign a waiver in case the light got damaged in any way, but there was no conversation to be had about it. The grouchy man had spoken. As it turned out, they had the color I wanted in stock, just hidden somewhere so I have what I want today. My point is, I guess, that, especially in light (pun intended) of today's economy, most businesses are going out of their way to provide really fine customer instead of going out of business. Good products, high prices retail and good luck with service. I purchased lighting and fans for my new home here and service was very slow and grumpily provided. Since then I have been back several times to buy replacement fans but have never been able to get anyone to help. Today was another unsuccessful trip. I waited for over half an hour before anyone grudgingly said they would help me but no one ever did. Looks like despite my reluctance I'll be buying at Home Depot and Lowes from now on. Certainly feels like they have decided they no longer need retail business. read more

Had almost given up hope finding a light kit that would fit our high-end fan in our new home. Went in and Ken couldn't have been more helpful--found the catalogue for our fan, narrowed it down to a couple selections and the ordered it for us. (At HALF the price of one we had ordered online that was supposed to fit and didn't). Their selection of other items is great, and we were amazed that some of the prices were LESS than Lowe's and Home Depot, for obviously better quality and a vast selection. This will be our first stop now, it's really true that you many times get much better service (almost always) and a better selection at good prices with a local shop. read more

My experience was even worse than Roberta L.'s. Intending to furnish a new Arizona room that a builder was preparing for me, there was a certain wall light that I admired on Northside's display wall. I wanted to buy two of them, so Northside ordered them, at my request, to "Rush" from the supplier for an additional $35. I gave my visa card information at that time. And I can add that I also bought, with cash, about $150 worth of other lights that Northside had in stock. Supposedly the lights that were out of stock were to arrive in four days. The lights themselves cost $140 apiece. But still, after two weeks, they had not yet come into Northside, according to the clerks there, and by this time I was preparing to leave Tucson to return to my permanent home in Washington State. So I called the store and explained the dilemma, said I would be unable to accept the lights because I would be gone from the city for nine months, and asked that the store cancel the order. Very patiently and without any recriminations I explained that I would be happy to continue to be charged the "Rush" fee but that I would like a refund on the purchase. I was told by the lady I bought the lights from that that the owner, Ed, was out of town and could not be reached, and that he might insist on a restocking fee. I asked how much it would be, and she said not more than $50. I thought it odd that Ed couldn't be reached, but remained patient. Another week passed without hearing one way or the other about the exact sum to be charged for "restocking" these two small light fixtures, although I called several times. At last the clerk called me, as I was traveling back to Washington in my RV, and (I thought rather apologetically) revealed that "Ed," the "grouchy man" mentioned in Roberta L.'s critique, had imposed a restocking fee of more than $180!!! So the result is that I paid approximately $215 for nothing at all, thanks to "Ed." I almost decided to dispute the visa bill, but then decided that life is simply too short. But I will never go into Northside Lighting again, and I would earnestly warn any customers to get in writing any promises that depend on the owner's say-so or goodwill. Otherwise, be prepared to get screwed. read more

I ordered two lamps. After the order was placed at the marked price, the company called me to say I would have to pay $56 for "shipping" from the manufacturer to their showroom, in addition. This is a poor business practise, in my view. read more

I bought an outdoor fixture there during a recent sale they had. I got home to find the fixture wasn't what I needed. Three days later I went to exchange the light for a different one. I went in and said "I'd like to upgrade to a better model". I thought this would imply that I was willing to spend more money. The person at the desk looked at my receipt and groused at me that the sale was final and turned to have a conversation with her co-worker. No explanation about anything. Their return policy is posted anywhere so you can read it before you purchase. I've got one thing to say. Northside Lighting sucks!!! read more
