We came in today to explore wood ideas or paint ideas for a Off the wall bed. We have a second bedroom with only a few guests in the last 3 years , so it is where we fold clothes generally. If we changed the space it could expand to a reading room with shelves. We have bought here before, twice, so we know the advantages. Those rooms turned into 2 offices that had a optional bed. We could sleep An extra two couples at the same time, and did. So, the idea is how to spend 3-4 k and create a wow room where guests could stay or stay over. The styles are very consistent to what we had in 2015. Just nice woodwork and different configurations for side storage ideas. Shelves, not drawers. We still are in the idea stage, we met Jay, the original owner. A wonderful man and conversationalist. To change a space to more than a bedroom is a good use of a smaller property. A two bedroom house can be a three with the pull of a handle. read more

We live in Chicago but have a house in Tucson AZ where we spent the winter months. After buying the house we began to get visits from family and friends. Since we had only one guest room, we decided to install a Murphy Bed and desks in the den. We contacted the owner of Off-the-Wall Furniture Solutions store (on Fort Lowell Rd), who came to the house, took measurements of the room, and ended up installing not only a Murphy Bed but also two desks and wall shelves. Everything turned out to be perfect: the quality of the wood, the workmanship, and the operation. Fifteen years later, we decided to install another Murphy bed in the guest room to create more space for my workout. When we contacted Off-the-Wall to do the job, we found out that the former store owner had retired and two new partners have taken over the business. Assuming they were going to run the business the same way the former owner did, we ordered one Murphy Bed and one desk. When the desk arrived, the drawers would not close on their own as they were supposed to since they are supposed to have a "soft close" feature which refers to a drawer that's provided with a mechanism that pulls the drawer shut. After I reported the issue, an "installer" was sent, who lubricated the tracks and said it would take a few hours for the drawers to operate smoothly. They didn't. Called again. One of the partners came and tried to fix the problem but couldn't. I took him to the den where the former owner had installed two desks and showed him how smoothly the drawers worked. During my discussion with the owner, I learned that he had changed the"vender," apparently to cut cost, which resulted, in our case, with desk drawers that don't shut properly. Two weeks later, the bed was delivered. We were informed that it would take a week for the foam mattress to "fluff up," or reach its full size. It didn't fluff up but stayed crumpled. After calling them, a new mattress was delivered which fluffed up after a week. Then there was the issue of the bed's head board which came attached not to the back of the bed but attached onto the top of the bed and which is designed as a shelve which can be collapsed when the bed is pushed up against the wall and be raised when the bed is lowered. There was no problem with raising the head board. But collapsing it is a challenge. You need to get on top of the bed and reach with both hands to release two clasps, one at each end of the bed. Since I'm not a tall person I have to ask my wife to release the clasp on one side while I release the clasp on the other side. The headboard is also quite heavy, weighing about 7 pounds which adds to the weight of the bed. It is the only Murphy bed we have (out of three) that's designed this unusual way. When I went back to Chicago where we have two Murphy beds, I took a picture of the headboard, which is mounted on the wall, and sent it to Off-the-Wall owners. I asked them to remove the headboard that came with their bed and install a wall-mounted headboard because this type of headboard doesn't add any weight to the bed, is cheaper, and doesn't require us to climb on the bed to release the two clasps every time we push the bed up. I also offered to pay for the new headboard. One of the partners simply responded with the following text, "We aren't going to change our manufacturing method." Here's my question: What kind of future awaits a business that refuses to adopt a new manufacturing method that is simpler, lighter, cheaper, and involves no labor on the customer's part? The two partners mean well and try to provide good customer service. But good customer service can never make up for poor-quality products and shoddy workmanship. read more

I have a very old Murphy Bed purchased from Off the Wall many years ago. One side recently because dislodged from the apparatus that lifts the mattress. I called Off the Wall and Jana couldn't have been more helpful in solving the problem. She had the service techs at my house within two days to fix the issue. If you have a home office and you want to customize it so it can double as a guest room, how about an office/Murphy bed combo? This store has some great merchandise and ideas for your home, and it's QUALITY too... We have a 4th bedroom in our house that is half guest room, half office, and I really want to streamline and organize it someday (hopefully soon). Product - 4.5 stars Service - 1.5 stars So I'm moving into a new construction home and would like to take my OTW bed to my new home. This service was offered by OTW to any customer who purchases a product from them I would imagine within reason; for example, I doubt they would do this if I were moving to Virginia. As many new home purchasers may have experienced, closing is not an exact science for many factors, for example, production may fall behind schedule. This is not OTW's issue but their flexibility with scheduling was a sour note at best. Essentially I have to fit my move into a time that is optimal for them - which I don't mind with some compromise. However, I was literally told that they could do the move at any other time because they do not have any other installs scheduled in my area for the foreseeable future. Really?!? Am I, not a paying customer - now TWICE over? I appreciate the difficult and busy install schedule, and I'm happy they are that busy. But to make my request to take them up on their offer to relocate my bed become a burden to them even though of course, I would be paying for the service, is an unusual approach of providing decent customer service at best. Cantankerous shopkeepers are the worse and a great example why people may choose not to shop locally. Why pay more and still get less than acceptable service coupled with a negative tone and attitude? Meh. read more

Our initial appointment with Steve was productive and he was able to formulate a plan and sketch for our home office, set up a follow up appointment for measurements, production and installation. Off the Wall Beds was an unpleasant surprise for our family. Why? Doubled prices, shoddy workmanship, damaged furniture, and appointments ignored (without even a phone call) were experienced during a recent (4/13) "remove and reinstall".(R&R) We have used Off the Wall Beds on Fort Lowell near Dodge twice in the past ten years for built-in units - a desk and library unit and a Murphy bed- desk -bookcase unit. Both were well done additions to our home. At the time of the second (bed) installation, we were told a future removal and reinstall (for tile or flooring.) was $250. We decided to remove the rug, which entailed a R&R. The real charge was $410.00 The bed unit was badly bent and did not refit well during reinstall. The reinstaller told his boss the bed was already bent on removal. Not true. The reinstaller told his boss he had so informed us upon removal. Not true. Large ragged holes were drilled and left uncovered on the bed box during reinstall. An appointment to fill the holes/straighten the bed was made for 4/26/13. No one came. No one called. When I called, 4/27, "Steve" defended his employees, said he would mail hole fillers and hung up on me. Stay away from Off the Wall Beds. read more

I was looking for a couple of custom made pieces and checked these guys out. Both Jay and Steve were very accommodating. We sat down together and basically sketched out my ideas together, and we put Off The Wall to work. My items were a built-in desk and upper cabinet set to go in a recessed cubby hole in my laundry room, and then a free standing "TV Stand" entertainment center 8' long with three cabinets to hold my components and CD's. I provided a face front from one of my brand new Alder drawers, and asked them to use clear Alder and match the stain. The furniture took about 8 weeks to build, just as promised. It was delivered and installed by a very nice crew of three young guys, who were very respectful and attentive to what they were doing. All I can say is WOW! The furniture is absolutely gorgeous, matches my cabinets EXACTLY, is exactly as we designed and was VERY reasonably priced. A big thanks to Jay, Steve and the craftsmen behind the scenes, who exceeded our expectations on both pieces. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! read more

Our Murphy bed has pistons that help raise and lower it into a wall frame. The builder moved to California, so when the piston came loose and tore part of the wood frame off, I needed help. The off the wall TV commercial says just stop by our store. I went to the store and there was one person (Steve) waiting on a customer. I waited for a few minutes and finally asked if he was the only one there. He said, "This gentleman had an appointment." Well, great start! You didn't say make an appointment in your commercial. I described my broken bed and he asked if it was an Off the Wall bed. Steve said he doesn't like working on beds built by someone else, but would come look at it. On the day he was to come, he didn't let me know when he would arrive and after waiting until after 11, I emailed Steve. He called and said he would arrive at 1:30. He looked at our bed and said he wasn't familiar with the lifters. I asked if he could just build a new base for the bed with his lifters. He said our space was a different size than they build. If they build them, why can't they make it to size? Then he said he was so very busy that he really didn't want to mess with it, but he could sell me a new system for $2100-$3000. My husband and I decided that we didn't care for the attitude that he was too busy and really didn't want the job. I sure hope that he is better with the people to whom he sells his products. I give him a D- for his lack of empathy and customer service. It would be an F, but he did drop by and at least look at our bed. read more

I ordered a custom sized tall cabinet with extra deep drawers on the bottom. Was installed today and OTWFS did not disappoint. Installers were careful and friendly. Design was exactly as ordered to hold all of my craft supplies and products out of sight behind two mission style doors. The bottom 2 drawers are tall enough to hold tall plastic bins of toys and puzzles and what not. I cannot stop looking at it! read more

They built a bedroom set for us. Two over sized dressers, and two bed side tables. The design is rated a 5. The biggest problem is that they did not use clear lumber. Instead, they filled the knots and dyed them a dark color, some of these dark spots are up to two inches wide. This totally detracts from the beauty of the furniture. Also a few of the drawer glides were installed poorly and the drawer would not operate properly. Just a little more care and attention would have made this a 5 star rating. If I remember correctly, we paid about $5,000 for this furniture. I wrongly assumed they would use clear wood at that price. We had just moved into our new home and needed the dressers so we accepted them with this blemishes. Have regretted that ever since. Make sure you ask for clear, knotless wood. There are times when numerous knots are attractive, but not on fine furniture. read more

Very strange story. I bought a beautiful bed from Off The Wall Beds about 6 years ago. The bed was very well built, and of excellent quality. It was delivered and installed as promised, no problems. After installation, I moved and asked them (and paid them) to move it to my new home. Again, no problems, everything done as promised. This year, I moved again, and again asked them to move my folding wall bed to my new home once again, with the understanding that I would again pay to have this done. I made this arrangement one month in advance with their manager, 'Steve.' I called 'Steve' back a week before the move to double check, and the lady who answered the phone checked the reservations and did not find me in their system to have my bed moved. She said she would put me in the system and everything would be OK. A few days before I moved, I called in to double check and spoke to Steve again, confirming the move. The day of the move, the crew from Off the Wall Beds was supposed to be at my home by 3:30. They never showed up, and called me at 5:30 to tell me that they were in Marana and that they thought I lived in Marana, which is rather difficult to accept, since they had both my street address, city address (Tucson) plus my zip code. They said they could come out and move me that day, but it might be as late as 9:30--10 PM at night on a Wednesday. Rather than try to have the bed moved and installed under these conditions, I told them I would re-schedule the move. I called 'Steve' the next day, and expressed my displeasure over the fact that not only did his crew not have the courtesy to call me to say that they would be late, but added an obvious deception to their excuse by stating they thought I lived in or near Marana. ' Steve' then condescendingly informed me, with a heavy does of 'attitude' that they moved customers beds as a courtesy and they were under no obligation to do so after the sale. I informed Steve that I realized that what I was asking -- and paying to have done -- was a courtesy to me, a customer of theirs. Nevertheless, I expected that at the very miniumum, a phone call to tell me that they were running late, or could not keep their appointment, was in order. (After all, they had my correct phone number. Why would they have an incorrect street address, city and zip code?) Whereupon 'Steve' said "You know, it sounds like you really don't want us to move your bed for you. Maybe we should just cancel this out...." Whereupon I said, no, 'Steve', I still want you to move the bed. I simply want you to keep your promise and if you cannot, at least have your crew exhibit the minimum courtesy and call me to tell me that you will be late or that you cannot be there at the appointed time and date. "Well, they did call you." Yes, Steve, they called me to tell me, 2 hours after their scheduled appointment rather than in advance, that they were in Marana, that they thought I lived in Marana, and that they couldn't move my bed until 9:30 -- 10 PM at night. So can you have them come out tomorrow? (Thursday)? "No, the earliest we can have them come out might be Monday." I replied that this did not work, as we had to be completely out of our old home by Saturday. Whereupon 'Steve' decided to unilaterally cancel the move, again saying that "he" didn't think I wanted them to move the bed (again, with even more bad attitude) leaving us COMPLETELY STUCK as to how we were going to move this very large heavy bed down a flight of stairs and then bring it over to our new home and install it within the next two days. To him, I was not a customer; I was an annoyance. Quality of product: 5 stars; Service after sale: 1 star; Average: 3 stars As I said, their beds are excellent, but their service after sale leaves a great deal to be desired. read more

The quality and build of the furniture is somewhat lacking. Also, they show no regard for my time. I had a murphy bed installed by them 6 years ago and the workmanship was excellent. I had the same bed installed in a new home about a month ago and the first time I pulled the bed down for a houseguest, the handles detached from the bed. Also, I noticed that the bed was not aligned in the frame resulting in bad scratches on the outer frame. Off the Wall has agreed to fix the problem but was a no show at their appointed time this morning. I had to call them to set up a new appointment. Also, Off the Wall was a no show for the first installation appointment. I had to call them to set up a new appointment. In general, I've noticed a decline in the quality of their workmanship and a cavalier attitude for keeping their appointments. I do like the styles of the murphy bed they offer, however I will not likely do business with them in the future. read more
