We had our house and adjacent metal building painted, using four different colors. The crew spent 11 days on our project and did a super good job. Although we waited several weeks after the estimate was done due to other projects, it was worth the wait. The preparation included heavy sanding and caulking of some really high eaves and beams, replacing a few big pieces of wood that had dry rot, and filling in lots of cracks in the stucco. They did it all and with good cheer to boot. They started early and worked very hard. Joshua was easy to get in touch with if we had questions, and the price was very reasonable. I hope not to have to do this for many years, but if so I will use Northstar again. read more

We had Northstar give us a quote as their Yelp reviews were very favorable. Of the 4 companies that quoted they weren't the cheapest or the most expensive (one company quoted $15k-unbelievable!). Are house is a 2000 square feet tri-level. This was early July and they were booked out to the end of September. They ended up getting here mid September which worked out perfectly. The house hadn't been painted for at least 25 years and in need of some TLC. The two man crew started pressure washing everything. That was the loudest we heard them working. Every other aspect of the job they were very quite. Also Juan and Miguel were orderly and organized. I was impressed with their attention to detail and their politeness. After scraping, filling, repairing stucco and puddying the wood and sanding down went primer. Next were the eves and gutters. Then base coat and trim. All of the stucco was back rolled insuring good adhesion with hand cut in trim work. The issues I pointed out were dealt with without issue or complaints and they showed up every day until we the job was completed which in this case were 8 days. Would I hire them again? Our objective was to get the interior (ceilings, walls, baseboards) of our SFH painted before we moved in. The timeline was tight. We got super lucky to find NorthStar! Josh arrived on time. We toured the house, and Josh answered all my questions on the spot; he was very knowledgeable about paints, texturing, patching, etc. Josh provided a time estimate and they hit it. The team started on a Tuesday and was done by Friday mid-day. As for the painting, we are satisfied with the work - the house looks great! We had our house and detached garage painted by another company about 10 years ago and they did a fine job. But in recent years the trim, fascia boards, eave brackets and similar were beginning to look worn and needing sanding, prep, and paint. Also, in the last couple of years with all the new construction going on in our neighborhood, there was much dirt, dust, and grime accumulating on our exterior walls. It was time for a cleaning and paint job. Called several companies and Northstar's customer service staff stood out. Received three referrals from them which were all very complimentary. Josh of Northstar came out and did an inspection and provided a bid to power wash everything and clean and prep and paint all the trim, fascia boards, gates, etc. Then we were scheduled for the work and, though rain and cold weather meant for a protracted schedule (that's what you get when you decide to do exterior paining during November and December) the work began in late November and was completed about a month later. Northstar's crews were very courteous, professional, and thorough. They began by power washing the entire exterior of our house, detached garage, and playhouse. Then they methodically prepped everything (scraping, sanding, and priming), caulked, and finally painted. And we are very, very happy with the results. The cost is not inexpensive by any means, but we thought it was fair and the work was performed beyond our expectations. Josh and his crew were very good about daily cleanups and making sure a couple of things we found at our final inspection were completed. We hired NorthStar to repaint the exterior of our home. After taking 3 bids, we went to Northstar. The main reason was I felt Josh was the most professional and knowledgeable contractor of those we spoke to. Northstar was also full service - we had some dry rot to repair which NorthStar was able to do. Their were some complications that arose during the process - I have an Ivy plant covering my exterior that was stressed after the painting process. Ryan (NorthStar's owner) came by my house to take a look, and sent an arborist to give a professional opinion on the ivy. The arborist gave me some instructions on how to care for the stressed Ivy which worked. I give Northstar 5 stars not just because of the great painting job, but also because of how NorthStar responded to the challenges. I will definitely hire them again and recommend them to anyone who asks. read more

Great job Ryan and Team! I looked on Yelp and selected 3 different companies to email in order to get bids on the exterior of our home. All three had five stars and great reviews and all returned my email request with a prompt phone call the next day. I set appointments for all three to meet me at my house for a quote two days later at different times. The first I met was helpful, detailed, and said he'd follow up with a quote in about a week via email, he ended up sending about three days later which was nice, he gave an itemized breakdown as well. Painter number two gave me a verbal quote, flat fee. He helped with some front door color ideas but wasn't super detailed in everything they would do. Ryan was the last I met. He took his time inspecting the house. He went into detail about what his team would need to do and verbally broke down exactly what they would do and for how much (treat the Eve's, prime with protective coat against mold, rub gutters with vinegar since they had never been painted, etc). Maybe the other guys were going to do all that as well but they never explained it all. He itemized both with and without verbally onsite and sent the bid in email a day or two later on a sat or Sunday. Painter number one was going to be 2-3 months out. Painter number two was 2-3 weeks out. Ryan told me at our meeting his team would be about a week out. His prices were very competitive, actually ended up being the lower of the three (we didn't know when choosing because we hadn't received the first painters quote back yet. I sent an email the weekend receiving the quote saying we'd like to proceed and he called me on Monday asking if he could send preppers out on Tuesday (literally starting 4 days after we met). They started at 7am, always on time and always tidying up the job before leaving. They tried finishing on Friday but ended up having some detail work and Jose worked from about 7am to 6pm on Sat getting everything finished. Jose did a walk through with me around 2 (He was finding most of the items as we walked) we marked some items and he didn't leave until everything was done. My wife and I found a couple very small detail items on Sunday. Ryan met me on Monday to do a final walk through, he finished the last couple items and we paid him the remainder of the balance owed. We weren't sure on colors and Ryan and team painted some samples in the body and trim so we could see how it looked and it it looked good with our pavers. He shared input. He was always available by phone or text if I had questions. He's a great guy, does what he says he's going to do, and has a solid crew in place to execute. I'd highly recommend Ryan. Wow! That is all I can think to say! Ryan really stepped up and made things right with my husband and me. Within hours of posting my previous Yelp review, Ryan sent me an email apologizing and offering to make things right. I didn't immediately respond, wanting to discuss things with my husband. Two days later, my husband and I had decided we would like to give Ryan and his team another chance. I told my husband to call Ryan. Within five minutes of making the decision, our phone rang... and it was Ryan! He was following up to his email, wanting to apologize and fix the situation. He offered to come as soon as we wanted (even offering to squeeze us in before Christmas!) and offered a discount on the work. We told him we had already decided to give Northstar a chance. We scheduled Ryan to come out and do the work on Monday, December 28th and Tuesday, 29th. He promised to call the weekend before to confirm. He called us on that Sunday and confirmed times just like he promised. He and his crew (Julian) arrived on time at 8:00 am on Monday morning. They worked EXTREMELY hard. They took very few breaks and got almost the whole job done on the first day. They offered to come early the next day to finish. Julian arrived on time at 7:00 am to finish the job. Ryan showed up a little later to help him. Both men were kind, courteous, respectful, and hardworking. They were tidy and cleaned up all of the work areas extremely well- even offering to rehang the pictures on the walls for us. The painting was done beautifully and our walls and ceilings look perfect. I couldn't have asked for better work! We are so pleased with Northstar (and with Ryan and Julian). Had the pleasure of working with Ryan and his excellent crew. The process was seamless. My wife is very particular with colours and wanted a certain shade of ivory. Ryan painted 5 samples of various shades at each of the room. Various rooms have different amount of natural light. This helped with the process. Just awful. I had a whole house painting job, called NorthStar because of the stellar reviews and they said they need to come over to give me a quote. I said, sure, how about Friday? No, they said, we can only come Thursday. I agreed and had to take time off work to meet up at my house. 30 minutes go by and they were a NO SHOW. I called and they said, well, we have you down for Friday and made it sound like it was my mistake! I was about to lose it! But that's not the worst part. They finally show up Friday, 20 minutes late, take up 30 minutes of my time to look around and said, we'll get back to you with a quote. Then NO RESPONSE! I called, texted, let a voicemail. Nada, zip, zero. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Apparently they didn't need my business, but wanted to waste my time. read more

We feel extremely fortunate to have found North Star Painting when the exterior of our house needed painting. Since the house hadn't seen new paint in almost 20 years, to say there was a great deal of prep work to be done would be an understatement. After meeting Josh and Ryan it was an easy decision for us to have North Star do the work. Since both my wife and I worked in law enforcement for many years we like to think we're a good judge of character. When I called NorthStar last fall to get an estimate for painting the exterior of my house, Ryan the owner told me he was booked until rainy season and didn't want to promise he could paint my house before the rains came. I called a couple of other contractors to get some estimates, one never showed and one that did made all kinds of promises that he could schedule me before it got too cold and wet, and he never called me back. So I decided to wait, and once the rains stopped last month, I called Ryan back and he remembered our conversation from last fall and he said he could meet me for an estimate. I actually called him on the weekend late on Saturday night assuming I'd leave a message but he actually answered and quickly scheduled a time to meet, and returned the estimate within a day that was very competitive and I decided to move ahead with him.
