So Unique Painting and Decorating has been the painting company I have used for the last 25+ years. They have painted both the inside and outside of my current house and just completed the exterior again. The painting team I have received on every job has been lead my Rogelio Rubio. The team shows up promptly each morning and puts in a day of work. They are diligent, neat, professional, .... in other words they do a great job. This time Rogelio asked me if I wanted to paint the concrete retaining wall below my rear fence the color of my house. I had never thought of that and it indeed looked better when completed. Note that was not in the quote but it shows the type of service they provide. Mark comes by and checks on the work progress and the scheduling is easy with Jose. As my previous paint supplier had gone out of business they recommended Sherwin Williams exterior paint. I did pay to upgrade to Sherwin Williams best paint "Emerald" and it was well worth the incremental cost. The white trim has never looked as good. I would recommend paying to upgrade your paint to "Emerald" as the incremental cost is not significant in the total job cost. If looking for great service, excellent painters, at a fair price call So Unique. read more

Another company had done so a little over 5 yrs earlier and the same trim failed, (peeling, fading, etc), in just under 3 yrs and was repainted then under warranty. Upon contacting that contractor, he wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount of money to re-paint our trim. Enter Mark and his company. We asked for multiple estimates for prepping and painting our wood sided house and received diverse estimates. The first estimate was provided by a widely advertised Painting company located in Livermore, CA. The third company never showed up to give us an estimate. So Unique Painting & Decorating was the second company that showed up the very next day and gave us a more than fair estimate after asking a number of pertinent questions relating to the age of the house and the last time it was painted (12 years prior). We had to have some facia replaced and Jose, the construction manager, recommended a construction company which we employed to replace warped old window facia with hard wood. The first dry days the crew showed up early and worked thru the next two and one half days, washing, prepping, scraping, caulking and painting. They completed the job early on the third sunny day, cleaned up thoroughly before taking us for a walk-around to inspect the job. We are completely satisfied with the excellent, professional job and insisted they leave their sign in our front yard to advertise the excellent job. We plan on hiring Jose's crew to paint the inside of our house in 3 months. read more

I want to give a good review because I really like the crew that came out and Bob, the owner but the communication is HORRIBLE!! I first contracted them to paint my exterior. Signed the contract, and weeks went by with no call. I kept following up and the woman in the office (who was very nice) told me that only Bob can schedule, but Bob was always so busy and never called me back. Finally after a month when I threatened to move on to another painter, Bob called back and scheduled. It was another month until they could come out, but that was fine. Great team. Did a great job. But while they were out here I asked Bob to give me a quote on a large interior job. This quote came back almost as high as the exterior job, which is fine, because it's a big job. Again, sign the contract, send in the deposit and nothing. After a week, I call. She says she will follow up with Bob. Nothing. 2 more weeks go by and nothing. Then a month. The woman in the office again was very apologetic. She tried to text him, to call him, etc. and still no call back. After waiting over 6 weeks to even just get a call to schedule something, I cancelled and moved on to another painter who actually responds. It's too bad. I like them. But maybe you should allow your office staff to set up your schedule if you are too busy. read more

THE WORST! * Bad Quality * Bad Bookkeeping * Bad Attitude This job was supposed to take ~30 days. It took them 92 days when they finally were relieved of their duties. The quality of the work was horrible. They did not prep the walls, so when the blue tape was removed....so was our texture....and instead of fixing the texture, they just painted over it. They didn't caulk jambs. They didn't vacuum their sanding mess before spraying door jambs. The list goes on. Pretty much everything had to be painted multiple times. Our general contractor is still fixing their mistakes....at his own expense. After they left, and unfortunately were paid IN FULL, we found out how unprofessional and unorganized they really are. When the contract was signed in January, Bob Range actually brought the wrong contract (higher price dated September 2016 not January 2017) for our general contractor to sign. The contractor's names were similar, but the addresses were very different (Dublin vs. San Jose). The amount did not even line up with the 20 day preliminary lien notice they sent me. I contacted them in hopes that they would make things right. I was sure wrong. Below are some of the written responses I received from Bob in email after numerous requests to speak to him by phone to clear this item up: -"I am so glad we are finished and won't ever have to return." -"I don't know what the final amount ended up being and really do not care. " -"Please leave me alone. " -"I don't care what you are showing me. " -"End of story. " Then I gave them a chance to correct their mistake before writing a review and received these comments in the email response: -"Leave us alone. " -"Don't send me anymore e-mails as I will delete them if you do. " I couldn't let it stop there because the price discrepancy was so high....I wanted an answer to why I had someone else's contract, so I responded with the simple question of why did you have our contractor sign the wrong contract? It was only then that he decided to review his mistakes. He tried to smooth over his extremely rude responses and confirmed that we had the wrong contract..... I was trying to tell him that from the very beginning, but he had refused to look at the details. He then tried to turn the situation on us stating we did not pay him in full.....another mistake, sloppy bookkeeping because he didn't record the final check our general contractor gave him, but his partner, Mark Newton, had signed off of receiving. He then had the audacity to say it is certainly not his fault that our general contractor signed the wrong contract. It most certainly is.....Bob is the one who gave it to him in person and Judy in the office emailed to the general contractor for his records. Do yourself a favor and find another painter who will do a quality job and appreciate your business. read more

This is the second time we had our house painted by So Unique. The first time was over 12 years ago and while most of the house paint was fine, we had one wall that gets alot of direct afternoon sun, so we decided to paint the whole house again. The team from So Unique did a great job. Not only did they do a great job with painting the house, but they also sanded, stained and varnished our oak front door making it look like new. We also have alot of plants around our house and not a one of them were damaged or touched during the entire process. They are extremely careful, neat and courteous. So here's what went down last week: Monday (morning) - I called So Unique to obtain a quote on a paint project for our home. I spoke with someone who took my name, number and address down. He advised me that someone would call me back to schedule an appointment. Monday (afternoon) - Jennifer called and we set up an appointment for Tuesday @ 9am. Tuesday (morning) - Jennifer called to let me know that Bob's on his way and should be at our place shortly. 15 mins later, Bob showed up. He did a quick walk-through with my husband and wrote up a quote for us. The paint project was for downstairs, staircase leading to 2nd floor, 2nd floor hallway, partial staircase leading to 3rd floor, and 1 bedroom. Tuesday (afternoon) - my husband emailed and called So Unique to speak with someone regarding the quote and get on their calendar to start painting. He left a voicemail. Wednesday - my husband spoke to Bob briefly. Thursday (morning) - So Unique called my husband and they reached an agreement on pricing. Booking set for Friday morning @ 8am. Friday (7:20am) - So Unique paint crew shows up at our door. Early. Impressive. Although I was kinda hoping they showed up closer to 8am since our daughter usually sleeps in till 8-8:30ish but no biggie. They get started prepping the space for painting. Friday (4pm) - So Unique was done and cleaned up their materials. --------- I was/am very satisfied with the customer service and paint job overall. They returned calls in a timely manner and, let's face it, first impressions matter. We received a couple other quotes and though So Unique was not the cheapest they weren't flaky. My husband and I left voicemails with 5 other companies and filled out 1 online form for a quote and we have yet to hear back. We were in a bit of a time crunch so we really appreciate the fast turnaround. Good thing it rained on Friday bc that's how we got on the calendar so quickly. Apparently their exterior paint jobs were postponed. I would give them 5 stars but we found some paint splatter on our slate tiles (kitchen floor) and stainless steel fridge which we are still trying to figure out how to remove. There's also a small drop of paint on the carpet of our stairs and a few minor paint touch-ups but we can handle those. Other than that, they did an outstanding job. We will certainly reach out to them again when we're ready to paint other rooms in our home. read more

We initially selected So Unique Painting because they were responsive (unlike several other painters who responded days later) and prices quoted were fair. Later, we found out that So Unique also had excellent customer service. Bob helped me select the colors for our living/dining room, guest bedroom/bath, family room, kitchen, and main door. I was struggling between 3 shades of Benjamin Moore beige, 3 shades of gray, 2 shades of green, 4 shades of navy, and 2 shades of white. Who knew colors could be so complicated? Bob made some helpful suggestions and we ended up with a palette that worked great together. The painters who came were all polite and very efficient. The paint job was done very well but with large jobs, there are always little areas here and there that need touch-ups. So Unique was very accommodating with touch ups. I put together a detailed list and the painter (they have touch up specialists) did all the touch ups without having to look at the list! read more

So Unique is a quality painting company that is reliable, professional, clean, easy to work with, with reasonable pricing, and who stands behind their work . Bob at So Unique and his team, are fantastic- he and his crew have painted properties I help or once helped manage, ranging in project size from a three story apartment building, houses, a deck, to a staining of a new stair railing and some baseboards and touch up painting. Why they are fantastic: Professionalism/Attention to Details and Customer's Goals/Reliability on Pricing: When Bob comes out to do the estimate, I get the feeling he really looks out for the customer's needs: he points out upfront if there might be extra work that needs to be done (for example, if the sunny side of the house is peeling and needs extra sanding down to prep) , itemizes options so you can more easily decide what will fit your budget, and tries to figure out a solution for your budget, project goals, and schedule constraints. So far I have not had unexpected extra costs- once they quote it, that's what the price is. Service/Tenant satisfaction: Bob has helped us pick colors for the interior of a house and suggested areas for accent walls, to make the house have a more custom look while staying in budget. They have painted the exterior of houses with tenants still living inside, and the tenants have told me after that the crew did a great job. Going the extra mile(s): With any painting job there are bound to be a few areas of touch up that need to be done. What sets So Unique apart: They want you to be happy with the job. Usually, at the end of the job, I walk the house, and if I see something that needs touching up and point it out, they do it willingly. Once, there was a house where there was a little area of a balcony floor that got missed, probably somewhat our responsibility as I don't think So Unique had access to the house from the interior at the time they did the job. When we noticed it later after the job was done, and we told them, they drove who knows how many miles to come back and paint it at no additional cost. That is so rare. Be warned, this business is very disorganized and unprofessional so don't waste your time and money with them. I got a quote from Bob and tried to schedule an appointment. The woman answers the phone does not do scheduling and Bob is hard to reach. I finally got an appointment but they crossed out part of the work without telling me. The painter came and asked me to reschedule for the remaining work. He also took a big piece of the exterior wall as the sample for the paint and told me he will prime it in the next appointment. When I tried to schedule another appointment, they stopped picking up my phone call after I tried calling many times and didn't reply email.
