You know when you turn on your windshield wipers and suddenly shreds of rubber are attempting to clean your window? Yup.I definitely had to take the parents summer car to get winter blades. I pulled up to the service garage( mask required) and drove up where a serviceman ( wearing a mask)came to my window, told me to go around the corner to the parts department and they could help me. I drove around to the parts department and went inside. A really helpful young agent came out and got all the info he needed to get the right blades. Put them on and I was done!! It seems most of the negative reviews are for the service department. That is totally understandable and goes along with my experience which I will describe momentarily. But if you are reading this review answer this question - "Luke S" responds to most of these negative reviews with "thanks for the feedback, sorry to hear about your experience" yet they have more negative feedback with the same issue...customer service. He has not changed the CULTURE at this dealership that either tolerates or encourages such crass, disrespect to their own customers! I read it in the reviews, and experienced it twice myself at this dealership service department. You know, Luke, it costs the dealership on average about $4,000 to obtain a customer, and minutes to lose one. And one turns into a hundred, then a thousand. That's how you go out of business. The simplest way to get and keep them? Provide OUTSTANDING customer service - not just cookies and coffee - but customer service that helps solve the problem instead of handing over a story and a bill. I don't know why this seems beyond their ABILITY to deliver!!! I can tell you I have been to numerous VW dealerships in the area and across the country and Northtown is not the standard, they are the exception (not in a good way). Most VW dealerships have paired down but their service departments continue to deliver great customer service, just for being a loyal VW customer. This is the dealerships revenue driver!!! The fact that this one honestly does not seem to care what any of us think enough to DO anything about the continuous, single complaint of poor customer service...is astounding. So my story, I have an issue with my car based on recent heavy rains and the documented history, and lawsuit settlement over VW sunroof leaks. Their internal technical bulletin was sent by VW corporate to to all the dealerships within their own VW communications system with the dealerships. Yet Northtown insisted they had no idea what I was talking about, or any experience with it (in 7 years?) and could not help me resolve it other than to do some testing, look at the drainage system, check all the areas covered by the issue (ironic?) then charge me $259.00 to clean the tubes. And give me a detailed bill that now I have to take to VW and get the claim approved and repairs carried out. Northtown didn't know about this technical bulletin, or lawsuit yet they knew enough to say that VW recommends cleaning out these tubes every 20,000 miles as routine maintenance! Since when?? Likely subsequent to the lawsuit but that doesn't change anything for me because it has never been part of or recommended during the routine maintenance and there was nothing issued to the owners. Looking at my service records they had to admit it was never recommended to me. BTW the fee they charged me is covered under the settlement that I am a part of and I am taking all of this up with VW directly. Don't waste your time asking this dealership to help you because they really don't care about you, the customer or making sure you are pleased with their service. If they did, "Luke" would have made changes already and obviously has not. In fact, the first person that greets you at service is a man with a clipboard with all the charm of steel wool. Only he is allowed to speak to the service rep instead of letting you speak for yourself. I tried to speak to them directly and they made me wait while they discussed whether I could talk to the service person directly! I guess they need to get the internal story straight before they try to gaslight their customers. BTW their internal records had the wrong address for me, one I never lived at, As for the technical bulletin and information, it had to be taken to a 'back office' where some oracle decided they could diagnose the problem and give me a detailed quote I could take up with VW directly, the problem they supposedly know nothing about. They also tried coloring the problem as a lack of recommended routine maintenance by saying that "VW recommends customers have the tubes cleaned out every 20,000 miles ". For something no one knows about? Of course I was on to that bit of chicanery. Claim I didn't do the recommended maintenance so I am stuck. But the fact is in 2019 VW sold me this car knowing about that defect which is why they were successfully sued and now must cover the cost of my repairs, and the diagnostics. AND unlike Northtown, I was able to find out that this repair and diagnostic is covered until February 2027 or 80,000 miles whichever comes first. I will get this resolved, but I will NEVER take my care back to Northtown ever again and will encourage no one to do so either. Especially if you have any warranty, recall or lawsuit settlement repairs. read more

I did like that they offer Uber to/from their dealership if you have to leave your car. The rest of the experience feels very much like a scam but you're a captive audience so...too bad for you. Left feeling disappointed about how these places take advantage of people. My car needed an inspection, my usual guys couldn't do it bc VW doesn't disclose the reason for a check engine light, which is why it didn't pass. Could be something major, could just be the gas cap, but only the magical dealership can provide this. But at least I went in knowing it was check engine light related. The mechanic at the VW dealership sends several videos with everything that needs to be repaired and in some videos some vague clanking around on my tires with a screwdriver to prove...? I guess how dire the repairs are. $2500+ recommended in repairs --mentioned within that list is $90 for a gas cap replacement. $15 online, $60 repair at my usual mechanics, and inexplicably $90 at the dealership. Their assessment included some vague "failed NYSI" next to some recommended repairs, which of course, can't be true because it would otherwise have passed at my mechanics. ANYWAY so now I know it's for sure just the gas cap, and decline the rest, but not without paying the dealership $245 for the diagnostic. See what I mean when I say it's gross? For the most unserious repair. I'll add the splash guard (the plastic part under the car) wasn't secured properly by the dealership so 5 minutes on the highway and we had to pull over the see what the dragging sound was. There was a bolt missing so we had to adjust on the fly to drive it home. A cherry on top to their triple shit sundae. read more

I own a 2019 VW GTI with about 57,000 miles on the odometer. It's under a 100,000-mile warranty. The car is beautiful but, unfortunately, it has a serious defect. The acrylic black roof is cracked on two locations and there is a danger that it will start to leak at some point. For 6 weeks I've been trying to get an answer from the dealer if VW will fix the roof but, so far, I have received no answer- it seems the dealership and VW don't want to deal with this problem. I took my car into Northtown for a large noise in the left rear tire. Although I didn't have an appointment they squeezed me in at 8:00 am. I bought the car and tires at Northtown and was happy they could help The service was outstanding. The technician, Olivia, spotted a large nail in the tire. she said the tire was under warranty. it would be replaced in about 2 hours. An hour later, I had a new tire. Olivia was professional, very smart and knowledgeable. She was so thorough and skilled. it was a pleasure to work with her.We need more women in automotive services. read more

On the official VW website it was $34 less than the MSRP price. I just felt the need to leave a review after seeing so many bad ones and simply not having that experience. The dealer was okay when I bought my car. Just kind of non-chalet and straight forward. Basically told me he had either an optima he could greatly slash the price on or a Jetta well within my price range he couldn't work with the price on at all. The price was really good compared to NADA so I didn't even fuss I just bought it. The service is fine. It's more expensive than other mechanic shops obviously because it's a dealership, the benefit is they always have all parts so they get the everything done same day. I always have gone only to the dealership and it's fine. I drop off my car, they call me with updates and I pick it up later. No hassle. Everything on record. They earned my trust because of a specific situation. I brought in my car because the fan was whirring oddly. They called me after I dropped it off and said they accidentally broke it so they replaced it for free. Which is a $100-$250 piece. I think most mechanics would have told me it's broken and charged me, they admitted they broke it. That was big for me. read more

First time I've gone to Northtown and now my last. I found a VW I wanted to drive and potentially buy that fit very specific trim line and options that I wanted -- very hard to find anywhere around here. Buffalo dealerships do not have a great variety of nicer cars that are used with higher trim levels. Having bought many cars and going through the dance of it being on their website and then not available - I checked their site and then called this morning. I spoke with Dino who put me on hold. Checked and stated "Yep - we have it here, it's the only one! Do you want to setup an appointment to come see it?" Absolutely. I told him I'd be there in 20-30 minutes, he took all my information and setup an appointment with the sales manager. I arrived at the dealer 20 minutes later and after waiting a few minutes because no one was the front desk, a salesman finally came and asked to help me. I explained who I spoke to and he was not sure who he was, so he went to talk to his sales manager. Then said he'd take care of me. Great! Sit down at his desk, he takes my license, gets all my information in the system and then proceeds to tell me "oh, yeah, that particular one just got a deposit put down it's no longer available." He then offered another and I explained I wanted a specific trim line and those were not it. That was the reason I called in advance. No thanks. After your bait and switch I have zero interest in dealing with your dealership or their people. I should have listened to my friend who said STAY away from NT VW. If nothing else, what really p*ssed me off is the man I was dealing with once I got there clearly found out that it wasn't available - I would have appreciated just being told immediately. I would have said thank you, you have my number call me if it falls through... instead of him taking all my information from my license and wasting my time just so he could generate a lead. Then trying to sell me other ones they had that did not have what I wanted including a brand new one at probably 50k. "We have a brand new one I can run numbers on - it won't be close though to the price." Really? No sh*t. Secondly, the initial person I spoke with should have told me someone was looking at the car already and to hold off -- then offer to call if they left. No communication between service and parts (I should not have to tell the parts department what to order for a warranty repair two weeks after the diagnosis), telling me that parts were in when they weren't, forgetting to reset the service indicator light after an oil change, and don't even think about getting a call back if there's a problem. Initially went in to check out the $147/mo VW Passat lease deal that was advertised. None of the qualifying vehicles were in any longer and so that deal was immediately off the table. Took many questions to come to this conclusion, however, as you will learn that Northtown does not like to give straight answers. Ended up test driving a similar vehicle and was very impressed with the car. I intended on trading in my current vehicle and they took my keys but apparently never appraised it that night. Came back a few days later to try and talk prices but once again hit a wall. All we wanted to know was HOW MUCH IS THIS CAR? The phrase that kept on being repeated to us in a rather disrespectful way, was "how much do YOU want to pay for this car?" So long story short, we encountered some very unnecessary, very archaic "haggling", which was a major turn off. Cars nowadays can easily be bought without even stepping foot into a dealership. Sales people at NT need to understand that they need OUR business, not the other way around. The manager stepped over, and proceeded to fill in a "worksheet", naming a price $200 below MSRP, as well as marking my vehicle down at an absolutely shameful trade in value (~$3,000 below KBB), which tells me they DID appraise my vehicle the other night after all (???). Obviously we weren't happy with these numbers. Thus began their game. It grew quite heated until we finally decided to leave, since we still had another hour until VW of OP closed. Off we went. And we shall never come back here again. This goes down in history as one of the most unpleasant car buying experiences we've ever gone through. **I should also mention that we bought a Subaru recently from Northtown Subaru and that experience was entirely different. Dishonest service dept. and/or un-trained techs. I took my car to the dealer for my windshield wipers not working. They replaced a fuse. After leaving the dealer I had multiple warning lights go off and my fuel gauge, odometer and speedometer stopped working as well as my cruise control. I suspect they messed up the fuses so I took the car back to the dealer. They stood by their repair and then quoted me $2500 for a new ABS control module. I did not repair the vehicle with them and took it to a private mechanic. Turns out the issues were due to a blown fuse only. Thank God I did not go through with the costly repair with Northtown. Also, at their sister dealer Northtown Kia where I purchased my vehicle I noticed my radio did not work. They replaced it at no charge but then my AM radio did not work. They quoted me over $600 for an antenna. Strange b/c my AM radio was working before their repair. Recently got a ticket in my VW for one of their standard license plate frames obscuring the view of my plate. The dealership couldn't have been less helpful. The sales person I spoke with claimed that "nothing we put on our cars is illegal". He clearly lacked basic logic because you cannot be ticketed for legal things. They did not offer to remove the frame, compensate me for my ticket, or even apologize! Northtown and their sales team have been withholding hundreds of dollars from me for 6 weeks with no just cause. It seems like they care more about money than customer service and there are plenty of dealerships where you can buy a Volkswagen, don't get one here. This dealership has changed. I am coming up on the last year of my third lease from Northtown and I have always been impressed with the customer service but my latest experience has been terrible. I went into the dealership to talk about a new car and my salesman, Dan Rubino, kept me waiting for an hour to sign one piece of paper to look at a car in a month. In that time I witnessed him go into a cubicle with an elderly couple he had kept waiting longer than me and start shouting. I could not determine what the disagreement was over because the couple maintained their composure while only Dan was audible from half way across the showroom floor. I put down a refundable deposit on a car but ultimately decided this was not the year I needed to be buying a new car so I called Dan and requested my deposit to be returned. He sent me a text message back in response to my voicemail still trying to sell me the car and not addressing the return of my deposit. I called him 4 times over the next month, each time leaving a voicemail because he would not take my calls, he called me back once, didn't leave a voicemail, didn't take my return call, and did not respond to my voicemail. I then called sales manager Joe Aiello who did not do me the courtesy of returning my voicemail. I called the main dealership number and requested to be connected to a sales manager who was working that day. I was directed to Joshua Lange, left a voicemail, and he did not show me the respect of giving me a return call either. I finally left a voicemail on Northtown's general line which states that you can expect a call back within 24 hours. After 24 hours still no return call. read more

Let me start by saying I've been a client for almost 20yrs now and my sales rep Will Z is fantastic! The "service" department however are scam artist. Dropped my car off 30min early from my set appointment at 10am. I couldn't pick up till after 6pm due to work. On my way to pick up at 7:15pm I get a call telling me it won't pass inspection due to a nail in a tire that just can't be repaired. Then I get nothing but excuses from the service desk lady as to why my car isn't ready yet and the tire issue. Sorry, I had a 10:30am appointment. Was charged for "inspection" and offered a $10 re-inspection charge. I drove away with no inspection sticker and the verbiage of eminent danger of the tire blowing out. Called Cleve-Hill Auto at 8:15am who are about 10min from home. They squeezed me in right away, had the tire repaired and inspection done and my ass back home in an hour! I will never give Northtown VW another red cent of my money! Especially with there being 3 other VW dealerships within 30miles of my house and two more just over an hour. read more

Will is a great and honest guy and makes you feel comfortable from the second you meet him. He let me decide which vehicle I liked best without any hidden agenda. You will return 3-4 times for the same repair, jerry-rigging is approved, appointment times are only suggestions, your time means nothing here, and people will treat you as if you have done them a favour by coming in. I dropped my car off to have the ignition replaced. When I picked it up a couple of days later, neither the horn nor the cruise control were working. I figured it was no big deal, just a switch or wire that accidentally got messed up while the mechanics were in the steering column. I brought it back to Northtown VW so they could fix it. The service manager I had been dealing with informed me that the horn and cruise breaking were completely unrelated to what they had done and it was just coincidence that two elements in the steering column stopped working after they replaced the ignition. He then informed me that the repairs would cost $552. I refused the repairs and left. Two days later, my horn started working. A week later, my cruise control started working. Not only did the dealership break my car and lie about it, they tried to sell me $552 of unnecessary repairs. Prior to this, I had experienced acceptable service from the Northtown VW service department, but this completely destroyed any trust or confidence I had. The mechanics and service managers are either dishonest or incompetent; either way, I'm not willing to risk it. read more

Terrible!!! Took car in due to lights coming on dashboard. They told me that I need a new electrical switch upwards of $300. I asked how pressing of an issue this was. Guy assured me this was a huge matter. They ordered parts and had me come back a few days later. They claim to have fixed the issue however neither of my dashboard lights are off...they had no problem charging me anyways! Second guy I dealt with was much less concerned over the issue. "Minor" he used to describe it... Oh by the way how am I supposed to pass NYS inspection with these lights on? Money and time have been wasted! Came here to find lease deals, because there are many listed on the Northtown website. Very busy day, so some wait was understandable. I spoke to the receptionist, an older woman with black hair. She was very nice and asked me what I was looking for, what my time frame was etc...gets some basic info and makes a call over the speaker requesting a sales person. 10 minutes go by as I stand at the service desk, another couple comes in, receptionist does the same thing. 7-10 sales people have walked by us during this time, all apparently busy. Eventually the 2nd couple says it is very busy, we'll make an appointment to come back. Literally as they are filling out an appointment sheet, a salesmen says "Heyyyy I'll help you right now, whatever you guys need let's take a walk around". I'm left still standing there, I look at the receptionist shocked a bit on why she said nothing even though id been waiting 15 minutes before they came in. Seeing me become annoyed she again says is there anyone that can help this man he really needs a sales associate. Another 5 minutes goes by and a disheveled Sales person "Adam" comes out already shaking his head before he even says hello, and says "hey we're super busy man". I say "yea I see that should I just wait for someone else?" he says no do you know what you're looking for? I tell him not a specific car, I'm looking in a price range. That I have 6k to put down and 200-230 a month for a lease, which I know is enough to buy SOME car, even if it's not a huge amount. Im expecting we'll sit down at this Point, he'll maybe show me the leases? No. Instead, while we're literally still standing at the service desk in front of the receptionist, says "I dunno, we might have some things that could be close, maybe some passats maybe some toyotas, but I dunno id have to see". I'm standing there thinking okayyy of course you have to see thats what I'm here for. Someone to see about buying a car today. And I haven't even gotten from the service desk, and a guy is hunching his shoulders saying I dunno man we might have something like that. Never offered to show me any, never gave me a card, never let me see what was in stock. Literally asked me less questions than the receptionist. Was not interested in helping me whatsoever. Named 2 entire makes and 1 model, and said we might have something, when I asked if I could spend 6k today and start a payment on a new or used car. Was beyond confused why my money was no good there and why I got 0 help. I say thank to the Adam guy and he scurries back in the office, again no card, no contact info, hadnt gotten any of mine, and was just going through the inventory vaguely in his head aloud and very clearly just trying to get me outta there. She obviously did acknowledge It at all. Everyone told me just get a car online and save myself all this trouble, I am disappointed I haven't. I thought it might be easy to walk into a dealer with 740 credit and a cosigner, and say "I have 6k down 230 a month what's doable." I see commercials for it everyday.
