I am so happy I had upgraded lens replacement surgery on both eyes! I am writing this review without my glasses, which makes me smile. Overall, a very good experience with NW eye. The surgeon is just delightful and I am still healing/getting used to my eyes (only been 1 week since the second eye) but I can tell already that this was a great decision for me. I'm only 62, but I had the beginning of cataracts (I am told this is very common at my age) and my vision was getting worse. I was so sick and tired of readers on-and-off, and it was a nuisance for teaching--had to perch glasses on the end of my nose. No more--I can read my lessons and talk to the students without any correction now. Upgraded lenses are expensive, but insurance paid for half of the total due to the cataracts, which are covered--I just had to pay for the special lens. My lesson learned to pass on is to get the second eye done as soon as comfortable. I think I had a harder time adjusting to and recovering from the first one because the upgraded lens are meant to work with each other. Once I had the second one done, the first felt instantly better. The second eye recovery was so much quicker! They tell me each eye is individual in how it recovers. OK--so why not 5 stars? I had to dock them one for the often frustrating lack of cohesion between the BHam clinic and the Mt. Vernon surgery center. I LOVE the way Mt. Vernon runs, and the staff are so nice and friendly. Not the same vibe in BHam. They are nice, but not as customer-service oriented. Just getting through to a human on the phone is a challenge, and you might get different versions/opinions from different doctors and staff in BHam. They all seem a little green. The call center doesn't always have accurate information. My only note about Mt. Vernon is that the discharge person is a bit abrupt and physically rough--which is a bit disconcerting when you are still a bit disorientated and feeling vulnerable right after surgery. (Both times so I know he wasn't just having a bad day).) It would be nice to have some of the more compassionate care you get before surgery. A last impression is just as important as a first one. read more

My experience was initially typical but... after my post op it went downhill. My friends warned me. I had my surgery and a week later I noticed a crescent shadow in my left and developed stabbing pains in my right eye. It felt like an electric shock feeling in my right eye, both my eyes became very crusty and stuck together so when I went back for my postop, I was given eyelash cleaning wipes and eye drops. After a few weeks, nothing changed my eyes were very blurry so I made another appointment in which I showed up and when I went hey young redheaded lady came out and was on her laptop and gave me a whole lot of attitude. I showed her my phone where they sent me a reminder, and I checked in. No one said anything and she said that the doctor said that she didn't need to see me anymore, but she already saw me for my post op. And I was told the doctor said that she already saw me. She is the one who told me to make another appointment for the checkup. After lthe drops. I went to my next appointment in a young attendant, came out with a laptop and said that the doctor says you already saw me and didn't need to see me anymore pretty much and she gave me a whole lot of attitude, roll her eyes and all those things I was highly offended and she said the doctor said I guess we can take a look. I had an appointment showed them on my phone and still got an attitude and I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude and she became eye rolling and condescending. I told the attendant that I didn't appreciate the attitude that I received from her and have a good day then she says well, the doctor can see her. she went to the back, came back out and said she said she guess she can see me now I had an appointment on staying with the problem was and why I had to get an attitude. It's horrible. It embarrassed me in that waiting room. She came back out and said she take a look but... I will never go back there again horrible horrible experience this ruined my whole day I'll just canceled my lunch date and went home. I'll tell everybody not to go to these people. Insane to run a practice like this. unacceptable well I guess we can take a look Say anything and so I was pretty much getting a whole lot of attitude, smoky eye rolling attitude ridiculous. It ruined my day and I still hurt with no help. Do not ever go to these people. I worked in a hospital for 26 years and if I ever saw one of my staff giving a patient attitude like that, I would ask them to voluntarily leave permanently. I am going to make an appointment with someone else to finish the job just a warning. read more

This place is chaotic. Too much differing or conflicting information. Huge $7000 price variations (whoops we made a mistake). Changing policies. In the end, I traveled 6 hour r/t and paid for 2 nights in a hotel and didn't even get my surgery done. While it was a giant waste of money, I felt like I dodged a bullet. Mount vernon office on Roosevelt St Date : July 13, 2026. I checked in at my scheduled appointment at 2:10 pm. I went and got pictures of my eyes then went back to the reception area. I watched many patients get checked in after me, I also watched them get called back to surgery while I sat in the reception area. At first I assumed they had a different doctor than me. So I went to the receptionist and asked why have I been sitting here for an hour and a half and was I forgotten. She came back with a funny look on her face and said that it would only 5 minutes more. After a another 20 minutes a nurse came to get me. I told her what was going on. She found that my file had been misplaced. At least 2 other people slipped in front of me while my ride and I sat in the waiting room waiting. If I never inquired we would have been there until closing. I feel this was really unfair to my ride and myself. When I return on July 27th for the left eye I will be taking inventory of every patient who arrives behind me, even if I have to video tape my whole waiting time. read more

The only reason I came here was because my doctor uses their surgical facility. If I had known how predatory they are in their billing practices, I would have found another doctor for my cataract surgery. They overbill and then charge you the full amount Medicare didn't cover. These are clearly extra charges and then they will harass you for payment. The facility itself is about a 2-star. Busy hectic waiting room, average friendliness of office staff, semi-clean rooms but could be better. Nursing staff is also average at best. One surgical nurse was extra brusque and they take forever to insert an IV, painfully so. Avoid this place if you can. read more

The schedulers do not understand what Worker's Compensation claims are and they refused to schedule me to be seen for my eye injury despite having insurance and a referral and their own doctor telling me to be seen there the next day. It took three days to be seen. read more

My eyes are much worse after the cataract surgery. The doctor cut my eye too deeply, which has caused me so much trouble-pain, dry eye and sensitivity to cold & light. He did not bother to mention this. I can no longer see close up, even with 250 magnifier glasses. I regret going to this center. The billing and scheduling groups need a total overhaul. The schedulers repeatedly gave misinformation. I had to call multiple times to confirm dates and times. Communication with the office was poor at best and made me feel as though the representatives were rushed and not paying attention. During each conversation, I had to repeat myself multiple times. The schedulers called me to reschedule an appointment that was four months away. I was on vacation and informed them that I would call when I returned home. The service kept calling. And calling. My hearing is not good so I requested a text or email. The service would not accommodate this request. The clarity of the call was not good. I tried giving the phone to the hotel clerk but she could not understand the caller either. Finally I accepted an appointment but it was not a date or time that was convenient. read more

Be sure you know the quality of lens replacement material before cataract or any eye surgery. Transparency is crucial. Post surgery support and respect is also important. Watch out for piled on charges not discussed at the presurgery appointment. My experience has been a nightmare. My eyes were very healthy and I had never had any problems before my cataract surgery. Today, I can barely see today beyond the hazy lenses they put in my eyes, the extreme dry eye and more floaters than I can count. It looks like I'm in a smoke filled room all the time. The lenses have failed! I had perfect near vision and now it is GONE! Reading is nearly impossible. My eyes burn all the time and feel irritated. Also, they will charge you for any amount not covered by your insurance. No adjustments Allowed. My surgery cost of over $7,000.00 was money down the drain. My eyes were much better with cataracts! Alert: Two years post surgery, out of the blue, I received a $200.00 bill from NW Eye Surgeons with no information at all what the charge was for, but I soon come to find out it was from something they found that my two insurance companies had not paid. I was given total cost of $4,400 for my surgery. Really!? They are scraping their patients and the insurance companies for all the money they can get. Just please do your homework and do not believe this surgery is what they say it is. Ask questions and get EVERYTHING in writing. read more

I have not been impressed with the service here. Being a health care provider myself, I was quite surprised an appointment for a possible eye infection was bungled. When I arrived early for my appt, I was told whoever made my appt did not "put it on the schedule". I was provided with an appt two days later. I was provided with no apology for my inconvenience. I ended up going to my PCP urgent care the next day as the infection worsened. Needless to say, I will be cautious next time I need an appt. read more

The procedure was far quicker and more comfortable than I had expected. Dr. Bailey has done hundreds of these each month for many years. I felt that I was in good hands. This was a very bad experience. Started with what was supposed to be a two hour appointment, yet I was still in the waiting room at hour three. I never did see a doctor. I did receive a statement from them for $232. Paid it promptly in February, but was turned over to collection in August. It is now my responsibility to provide proof of payment. Never received an EOB. This is a very poorly run business. read more

Having been diagnosed with cataracts that came on very quickly I was incredibly nervous about what to expect. My vision went from close to 20-20 to legally blind in just a few months. After my referral to Northwest Eye Surgeons I had no idea what to expect so simply hoped for the best. After my initial consultation I was told that eye surgery would be needed to restore my vision. I was referred to Dr. Osgood and scheduled for surgery a couple of weeks out. I have to say, the staff at the Mt. Vernon office were incredible. Everyone from the receptionist to Dr. Osgood himself was caring, compassionate and concerned for my anxiety as well as the final outcome. Getting prepared for the first surgery I was so nervous my blood pressure was out the roof. Staff gave me an IV of Valium to calm me down and the blood pressure dropped to acceptable ranges so off to surgery I went. I was still pretty nervous about having my eye operated on but Dr. Osgood calmly explained what would happen. I'd feel a little pressure on the side of my eye but little else. I have to tell you he was exactly right. The surgery went well only taking a few minutes. I had the other eye operated on this morning with similar results. Dr. Osgood is a perfectionist. His talent and scientific knowledge combined with human compassion made the experience extremely tolerable. No one wants their eyes operated on but Dr. Osgood made it feel about the same as having a cavity filled. No big deal... I'd highly recommend the Mt. Vernon office of NW Eye Surgeons. They were great in every aspect! read more

We have had multiple issues with communication and we are dissapointed in results from my wife's cataract surgery. We had problems in using their phone service, being dropped multiple times while waiting for a human to respond, both for pre-surgery and for billing questions. We indicated some constraints for appointments to their scheduling person only to see these ignored even though the times requested were available - we had to call to make the corrections. We felt we were promised the likelihood of mid-range vision and hopefully of near vision too but my wife has neither. She was advised to have procedures on both eyes but her vision was better after one eye than after both were done. One doctor said he would forward comments to the surgeon but the later seemed unaware of these. Billing statements have been confusing and inconsistent, one month listing services in the name of the doctor but the next month only services listed are for Sight Partners and the amounts are different! read more

I was diagnosed with double vision three years ago and Dr. Carlson gave me the option of surgery or glasses with a prism prescription. I opted for glasses as I had just had cataract surgery. After three years, I decided it was time to get the surgery. The surgery was done last June and though I am still healing, my vision has been improving. Four days after the surgery, I was shopping and looked up and I realized that I was seeing one of everything. I just started crying and had to explain to the cashier why. The surgery was scarier in my mind and there were hardly any side effects. I highly recommend Northwest Eye Surgeons, Dr. Carlson and their whole staff. read more

Do not go here! They do not disclose the side effects of your options, but encourage the most expensive multi-focal lenses (which only about 15% of patients are happy with). But these people are in it for the money. Demand the disclosures in writing and make sure you understand exactly what you are getting. I cannot see well anymore, and there is nothing I can do about it. read more
