I chose NW eye surgeons for my recent cataract surgery May 2026…read more My initial consultation and post-op follow up was at the Smokey Point Clinic in Arlington. The surgery itself was in Mt Vernon. The Smokey Point office has wonderful approachable staff. The exam process is similar to what you're already used to from the optometrist who referred you. There are technicians examining eyes. Your surgeon also will conduct some exams and interview you. At this point you will decide if surgery is for you, and if yes, choose your lenses. Your surgeon and staff will answer any questions you may have. By surgery day you'll be well prepared. Surgery itself only takes 15 min. However, there is prep, such as IV starting, connecting to monitor, mild sedation, that will add to that time. Surgery itself is not painful at all. You'll be leaving with a see through eye patch. Your clear vision will return as soon as the effect of the drops wear off that dilate your pupils. It likely will take several hours. You'll be home resting by then. You will go home with instructions and a dedicated emergency number to call should you need it. Your biggest challenge will be eye drop management. If you can, pay out of pocket for combination drops. (About $70). My surgeon was Dr Kuzin. He has picked a great team to work with. Dr Eden did my post-op exams. Throughout my treatment I felt well taken care of. My outcome is excellent. I suggest viewing some videos on cataract surgery and selection of lenses prior to your first appointment. You can find them on the NW Eye surgeons website or on YouTube. I'm a retired critical care nurse. I highly recommend Dr Kuzin and team!

I am so happy I had upgraded lens replacement surgery on both eyes! I am writing this review…read morewithout my glasses, which makes me smile. Overall, a very good experience with NW eye. The surgeon is just delightful and I am still healing/getting used to my eyes (only been 1 week since the second eye) but I can tell already that this was a great decision for me. I'm only 62, but I had the beginning of cataracts (I am told this is very common at my age) and my vision was getting worse. I was so sick and tired of readers on-and-off, and it was a nuisance for teaching--had to perch glasses on the end of my nose. No more--I can read my lessons and talk to the students without any correction now. Upgraded lenses are expensive, but insurance paid for half of the total due to the cataracts, which are covered--I just had to pay for the special lens. My lesson learned to pass on is to get the second eye done as soon as comfortable. I think I had a harder time adjusting to and recovering from the first one because the upgraded lens are meant to work with each other. Once I had the second one done, the first felt instantly better. The second eye recovery was so much quicker! They tell me each eye is individual in how it recovers. OK--so why not 5 stars? I had to dock them one for the often frustrating lack of cohesion between the BHam clinic and the Mt. Vernon surgery center. I LOVE the way Mt. Vernon runs, and the staff are so nice and friendly. Not the same vibe in BHam. They are nice, but not as customer-service oriented. Just getting through to a human on the phone is a challenge, and you might get different versions/opinions from different doctors and staff in BHam. They all seem a little green. The call center doesn't always have accurate information. My only note about Mt. Vernon is that the discharge person is a bit abrupt and physically rough--which is a bit disconcerting when you are still a bit disorientated and feeling vulnerable right after surgery. (Both times so I know he wasn't just having a bad day).) It would be nice to have some of the more compassionate care you get before surgery. A last impression is just as important as a first one.

In the end, I traveled 6 hour r/t and paid for 2 nights in a hotel and didn't even get my surgery done. While it was a giant waste of money, I felt like I dodged a bullet. These are my eyes, I don't want them cared for by some place that feels sketchy.

Meaning, when i called to make the appointment: i was "screened" to make sure i wasn't wasting my money. Day of appointment, empty waiting room, minimal wait time. Second room: my retina was images on 2 different machines. Third room - Dr O'Malley provided assessment. He has a thorough and sequential (apparent) first visit routine. Stepping through some basic eye physiology as a basis for explains the images and results. i'm normally a guy who likes to skip through the introduction and jump right to the end, but this tune i but my tongue and listened and went along for the ride. I'm glad i did. It's obvious Dr O'Malley read my induct form, and in a honest, direct and plain spoken manner, addressed things he saw - effects of genetics and efficacy of vitamins. In parting, he said i didn't need to see a specialist (like him) for a follow up in a couple of years. Meaning. he focused on the level of care i needed, not generating more patients (and money) for his practice. I went to a gucci (say Ferrari for car buffs like me) Doctor, so i could create a baseline to track any changes, so my next appointment is in 2 years.

I'm hoping my review can provide additional clarity and context on their practices, so that they can improve, because it's clear a lot of people are being misled and extremely inconvenienced by this place. I agree with what people say about the staff. It is definitely not a warm, welcoming place. That's not a big problem for me as I'm not the chattiest person myself, but it's definitely not the "island" feel you'd expect as a local. I want to make it clear that I don't blame the staff. They are clearly working in a difficult environment with upset customers, so I hope that whoever is in charge can help improve this. Now, getting to technician Ashley -- that's where I decided the place is not worth any investment of time, and left after ~7 minutes. We go back to the exam room, and things start normal. I'm a new patient but I came well-prepped with my prescriptions, etc. I start to talk about my contact lens needs and things get unhinged. This must be a sore subject with Ashley. She turns to me, glares, and says we will not be doing contact lens exams today, that's an entirely different appointment. This was surprising to me, because I've been visiting eye doctors for over 30 years now, and they all do a glasses/eye exam at the same time, and there was never any disclaimer up front that they wouldn't. And why does Ashley seem so hostile about the subject? But that's fine, I told her I was surprised because usually eye doctors do the exams at the same time and she says "you're not even wearing contacts and we have no way of knowing what your prescription is". Meanwhile I was carrying my prescription in my hand, which I had just showed her. Keep in mind I don't have any contacts to wear because I ran out of them. I told her this, but I think this is where Ashley trip-wired because I didn't fit into her list of excuses. After listening to a bunch of confusing sentences about why this is a totally unusually, unreasonable request for me to make, I called it. I simply told her that I'm going to leave because this is very strange. My guess is that this place tries to get by on volume vs quality. I'm sure there are enough first-time people coming through that are misled by the reviews. Note that most of the positive ones are for different locations, but the Coupeville ones generally have something ranging from strange to unhinged. I do hope they improve their practices. It's no doubt a horrible place to work, and I feel bad for the staff. I'll keep checking back on the reviews in case they improve eventually!

When I finally started wearing them, one of the arms broke at the hinge. Multiple local optical shops told me the frames could not be repaired, but I was referred to this company and decided to try. The process is mail-in. You complete an online form, print it out, include it in the package, and ship your frames to them. Once received, they perform a physical assessment of the glasses and provide a repair estimate. The assessment itself is free, and there is no obligation to proceed with the repair after receiving the quote. I appreciated having time and flexibility to decide. After I approved the repair and was able to arrange payment online, they completed the work and notified me when it was finished. I requested UPS return shipping for added security, and they provided tracking information through delivery. When my glasses arrived back, I was genuinely impressed. The repair is seamless & there is no visible sign of damage at the left temple where the break occurred. The frames were securely packaged and returned in excellent condition. I highly recommend Northwest Frame Repair for anyone who thinks their frames are beyond saving. Professional, transparent process, and excellent craftsmanship for the cost.
